What Are You Playing?
We've already had
What are you watching,
What are you listening to,
and What Are You Reading,
sooooooit was only logical that
What Are You Playing should eventually follow.
In the What Are You Playing topic, we get to geek out over our current gaming obsessions.
I'll begin the festivities with... *drumroll*
METROID PRIME TRILOGY!!!
*metroid entry choir*
Yes, it is true! I only rented Metroid Prime: Corruption when it came out, and now I'm SO glad I didn't buy it, because I got to have THREE FOR ONE, AND a t-shirt, AND a poster, AND special collector's casing, all because I pre-ordered! Oh yeah!
Wii Controls really make the difference. It's really, REALLY hard to stop playing Metroid Prime--though I'm sure it was already like that on the gamecube--and I can only guess at how much more awesome the game is when the controls are so slick. *blam! blam! blam! blam! blam!* *beetle dies*
*happy sigh*
In other news, I've been playing Wind Waker again, and Rune Factory: Frontier has it's own section on the pie chart as well. I better hold back Samus *huggles* for a while, otherwise all my other games won't get played. And poor Animal Crossing! I haven't played that in days. Tank, Sally, Limberg... Don't worry; I'll come back to you.... um, soon.
Well, aside from the occasional bout of Brawl or Excitebots race, that's what I've been up to in gaming for the past few days. So, that's What I'm Playing.
(lol, now I feel like saying, "I'm Kalon Ordona the Second, and THIS... is What Are You Playing." *custom fanfare à la King 5 News* *commercial break*)

I'm playing EVE, since I have no x-box (due to red ring of death). I'm consistently getting made fun of for playing an MMO in my family because that seems to be against their morals...but whatever. It is fun to play.

Re: What Are You Playing?
I just started playing Suikoden: Tierkeis for the DS. It's been a while since I got a good RPG fix, and I'd heard good things about the Suikoden franchise. The voice-acting is so-so, and I hear it deviates from some of the major aspects of the other Suikoden games. But this is my first Suikoden game, so I wouldn't know. The graphics and music are fantastic, and the story seems to be picking up as well. However, my progress will probably be slow because classes start Tuesday. Senior year of college...yikes!

Re: What Are You Playing?
I just stopped playing Oblivion, and am really hoping I kept a copy of my save game somewhere... :F This time through I did Fighter's Guild and Dark Brotherhood, and TONS of dungeon-diving/other quests/dungeon-diving. My Khajiit is like... level 24.
I just finished installing the Knights of the Old Republic (The first one, which has a better story.) And am now going to play it.
...
But... Light or Dark?

Re: What Are You Playing?
We played Excite Truck a bit today. That's a bit of a throwback, now that we have Excitebots.
Re: What Are You Playing?
I was playing Close Combat III: The Eastern Front again. Sure, it's over a decade old, but it's really cool in a history dork sort of way.
You're a company commander of either the Germans or Russians, and have to fight various battles through the entire war. I've beaten the game as both. Believe it or not, the Russians are easier because you get more gear and everything's available. The Germans have more really cool specialist gear, but it's expensive and supply lines stink.
But I am playing the Germans again, and building my company around halftracks for firepower, which are cheaper to replace, but also much more fragile...still, fun stuff.

Re: What Are You Playing?
I played a demo of Infamous yesterday. Seems pretty cool.
Seems like a really cool take on the Chose Good Or Evil scenario. Plus it's fun climbing around on stuff and shooting people with lightning. xD It's like Dark Jedi Hero!!

Re: What Are You Playing?
I've been playing Deus Ex again, doing a more stealthy character this tme. Man that game rocks.
Hmm...Playing GTA San Andreas. I palyed 4 for a little while, but I honestly didn't like the dark boring grittyness.
I've also been playing through SWAT 4 and Freedom Fighters on the harder difficulties as well, but that's pretty slow.

Arkham Asylum has exceeded all of my expectations both as a comic fan and as a gamer. 730/1000 gamerscore on Xbox for it means I've kinda spent a lot of time on it so far.

Ugh, apparently I played the KotOR too recently, because I can't even pretend to enjoy myself right now. :F I 'unno. Probably gonna look around some and twiddle my thumbs waiting for a BRAND NEW LAP TOP!
But... other than that... perhaps Mount & Blade to fill my time.

Now that I have my x-box back, whenever I have time for it I will continue playing Fallout 3.

Oh, good thread idea! (Though I am late.)
Silvone, I'm glad that you got your Xbox back. :3 I still need to play Fallout.
I just beat Fable 2 for the first time recently, but now I'm playing it again, this time as a villain (who's a hot chick that may or may not be bisexual... I have yet to discover lol).

I LOOOOOVE Fable 2!! If I had an Xbox360, that'd probably be the first game I bought!
What's your opinion of the game, Fate?

Re: What Are You Playing?
Lol do you? So, have you just played it at a friend's then or something?
I think it's a really entertaining game, and the story is pretty cool. I like that there is a morality system too. There are a lot of bugs I've encountered with it though. For instance, sometimes my character will get stuck while I'm walking or fighting and is unable to move (especially irksome during a battle). Other times, messages don't disappear and stay on the screen for awhile. It also slows down when you're fighting too many things at once. The animations become really choppy and slow. Swimming is seriously choppy too, as if they never fully finished working on that.
Like I said though, overall, it's really an addicting and fun game. There are just things about it that seem incomplete or as if they didn't have time to fix.

Re: What Are You Playing?
Fallout 3. Oh yes. This is like...my third playthrough, without any addons.
Bethesda crafted such a well made game, and though the two prior weren't developed by them, Im considering finding and playing those first two. There's a lot of backstory. Would probably make for a great RP setting.
Oh, and Mass Effect.

Re: What Are You Playing?
The first Fallout games are great, though they don't play anything like Fallout 3 but more like the old games of Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale. Just something to keep in mind in case you don't like that particular game style.
Also, Fable 2 is a pretty cool game. I got the 306 Elite back in the spring and it came with Fable 2 and Halo 3, didn't care for Halo though myself. The one major problem with Fable 2 is that it is far too easy to earn money once you start owning property because it builds up every five minutes, even while you have the console shut off. So if you wait a week and play the game again you'll have either a decent sum of money or you'll have just 'won the lottery'. Depends on how much you own, really.
Mass Effect was great, in my opinion. Beat it once and was in the process of playing through again with a couple other characters when I got Tales of Vesperia.

Re: What Are You Playing?
Mass Effect is an amazing sci-fi RPG that had me hooked with it's story from the get-go. It took some time adjusting to the 3rd person role play combat system but it was worth the time learning it to get through the game.
Fallout 3, completed every main quest except Trouble on the Homefront. I bought the Operation: Anchorage, Pitt and the island add on. I was addicted to this game all summer and it was amazing.
How is Tales of Vesperia? I'm waiting for NHL10 and the newest Marvel Ultimate Alliance in September but if there's a decent RPG out there, I'll add it to the list.

Re: What Are You Playing?
Yeah, Mass Effect's story was pretty riveting, and the detail put into the character expressions made it even more so. The Ashley/Kaidan vs. Liara subplot was pretty entertaining as well.
As for the playstyle of the previous two Fallouts, that wouldn't bother me. I'll play through damn near anything if I think the story's worth it. And Tales of Vesperia....related somehow to Tales of Symphonia?

Re: What Are You Playing?
It's part of the Tales series, yes.
*raises hand* I've played Tales of Symphonia! Longest game I've ever played! Somehow, the battles never ever get old, especially with multiple players. xD

Re: What Are You Playing?
Yes, Tales of Vesperia is part of the long running Tales series. Tales of Phantasia (started it all), Tales of Abyss, Tales of Symphonia...to name a few. In the older days it had a lot in common with the Star Ocean series since the people behind Star Ocean were originally part of the team that made Tales of Phantasia.
I haven't played Tales of Symphonia myself, only Phantasia and Vesperia but I've read about a lot of people who loved Vesperia and Symphonia both. Personally, I think it is one of the best games I've ever played. The plot is good and quite long with a decent amount of twists to it, plus the combat is fun and all the characters are interesting in their own way. And the voice acting is surprisingly well done. Most of the game is actually voiced, the PS3 release is going to have the entire thing voiced which is annoying for us who already own the 360 version.

Re: What Are You Playing?
I just picked up Uncharted today and pre-ordered the second one. It's a very visually-stunning game and it seems to be quite well made.
I've never really done shooters though, so I'm having to try and teach myself how to aim properly. Usually, I get really scared and overwhelmed and just shoot like mad, usually in the opposite direction of my intended target. xD I also run out of ammo super quick too, because I get so scared lol. So, needless to say, playing this game is intense for me, but it's quite fun. Since it's not just a shooter, it makes it far more enjoyable for me. Plus, the dead people have the 'ragdoll' effect on them, and I can move them around a bit, which is entertaining.

Re: What Are You Playing?
If you have a Wii and you like shooters, consider the Metroid Prime trilogy! One of the best shooters there is! xD Plus the hero is a heroine: the very lovely Samus Aran. Though in many ways it's more of a puzzler than a shooter.
I've also been hearing good things about The Conduit (though I've yet to investigate its review scores). That's probably more strictly a "shooter" shooter.
I haven't been playing many video-games lately. And you can blame Eternity for that. And two very awesome characters named Calanon and Aura. ^_^
Anyway, I HAVE been playing Tales of Symphonia again!
Like I said: never gets old. I could do battles on that all day!
ESPECIALLY with four players! It just never, ever, ever, ever, ever gets old!
I don't know why!! It's just like that, somehow. At least for me.

Re: What Are You Playing?
I'm playing EVE, trying to scrounge up enough money to replace the Raven I lost 3 months ago. Stupid ships are expensive!
And while I'm on the topic of expensive ships and how hard they are to get, I would just like to say how much I hate pirates! The freakin' assholes! Four of the jump me, and compliment each other on how they utterly obliterated me. And then one of them says: "Just trying to make EVE a better place for us all."
Are you serious!
Whenever I think of that I think of whats-her-name's line in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Dead Man's Chest, in the ridiculous scene where the three of the "pirates" are fighting for absolutely no good reason (IMHO).
