NaNoWriMo
Alright. Call me crazy ... NaNoWriMo!
National Novel Writing Month!
This is a really stupid and really crazy idea but could also be hella fun. I'm going to enter - just for the sake of the challenge. Hoping some of ya'll will also enter, since it would be really good practice and we could call ourselves TRUE NOVELISTS! (*cue evil laugh*)
The challenge starts on Nov 1st. It is to write 50,000 words before the month is over (Told you its really stupid and really crazy)
http://www.nanowrimo.org/
WHO'S WITH ME!!?!
ps. I know your probably really excited about this ... but do not start writing until Nov 1st!

How NaNoWriMo Works (in Ten Easy Steps)
1) Sign up for the event by clicking the "Sign up Now" link at the top of the site. It's right at the tip of the runner's pencil.
2) Read the ginormous email our noveling robots send you. It will have "Love" in the subject line.
3) Log into your account and use the links on the My NaNoWriMo page to set your time zone, affiliate yourself with a region, and tell us a little bit about yourself.
4) Begin procrastinating by reading through all the great advice and funny stories in the forums. Post some stories and questions of your own. Get excited. Get nervous. Try to rope someone else into doing this with you. Eat lots of chocolate and stockpile noveling rewards.
5) On November 1, begin writing your novel. Your goal is to write a 50,000-word novel by midnight, local time, on November 30th. You write on your own computer, using whatever software you prefer.
6) This is not as scary as it sounds.
7) Starting November 1, you can update your word count in that box at the top of the site, and post excerpts of your work for others to read. Watch your word count accumulate and your story take shape. Feel a little giddy.
Write with other NaNoWriMo participants in your area. Write by yourself. Write. Write. Write.
9) If you write 50,000 words of fiction by midnight, local time, November 30th, you can upload your novel for official verification, and be added to our hallowed Winner’s Page and receive a handsome winner’s certificate and web badge. We'll post step-by-step instructions on how to scramble and upload your novel starting in mid-November.
10) Win or lose, you rock for even trying.
WHO'S WITH ME!!?!

Re: NaNoWriMo
I've tried this twice. Failed miserably both times. I don't think I have the opportunity to try it again, with work, school and family...and of course my own books to write. I would love to, but...it is just not feasable.

Same with Silv...I tried twice, failed twice. I'm thinking I might try next year, when I won't have school to distract me...It's just that NaNoWriMo falls with the last four weeks of the fall quarter...and I have papers and exams to worry about...

Re: NaNoWriMo
Ah yes, NaNoWriMo! I participated two years ago... it was rather a lot of fun I'll admit, even if writer's block slapped me right in the face about half way through. I'll certainly consider having another crack at it once more this year... perhaps I'll even manage to complete the 50,000 words this time.
Re: NaNoWriMo
Damned school - always getting in the way of fun. Cool that you both participated before. Any tips? I'm pretty excited right now ... not really thinking about the down-falls or any bumps I will encounter
WOOHOO Mattipus! We shall be Novelists!
If you do decide to participate please add me as a "Writing Buddy" Then we can share notes. Name is "Reffent" - already made a post in the Newbie section.
Gave a wee shout out to FOG, AWR and ZOMG

Re: NaNoWriMo
My only tip is to set a minimum per day word count. That way you have an easy goal to reach every day, and if you happen to go over that count due to lucrative ideas, you will be ahead rather than behind. And a minimum word count is much easier to reach every day than a high one every couple of days.

I'M WITH YOU!! xD
I wanted to do it last time I heard about it, but it didn't work out for some reason.
Yess, I will go and to-sign-up!
You'll be doing it too, right?
I'LL ADD YOU!
I'll let you know what my username will be in a minute.
Probably Kalon Ordona II, since I know it'll be unique. ^^

Re: NaNoWriMo
OK I just HAVE to take a crack at this and put my money where my mouth is...so to speak. I've been talking about doing a novel for YEARS and procrastinating in epic ways. Maybe that idea I've been tossing around can finally come to fruition.
Mind if I add you guys?

Re: NaNoWriMo
I've been in for two years. I finished the novel on the first attempt, but the second time I was in army service, and so it didn't quite work out..
Definitely in, again. If I can give you one piece of advice: Word Sprints are everything!
Feel free to add me on msn, it's how I mostly do NaNo stuff. (Every year I have like, about 150 people on msn just from NaNo )
How word sprints work: You and some friends set a fixed starting and a fixed end time, and write as freakin much as you can in that time. It's mostly like, ten to fifteen minutes. Then you share your word counts.
This naturally works best in chats or IM, like MSN (used to have conversations with around 10-20 people at all times). You stay in contact with everyone, have some fun chatting, then sprint again, then chill again, while still having moral complexions not to just leave them and do something else

Wow! We have another 2 people joining the marathon. This is going to be awesome. I'll see if I can find you Digital_Muse and Kaito
(Go ahead and add me if you find me before I find you ... still figuring out the new website)

Re: NaNoWriMo
I joined! I wanted to do this last year but what with school and work I couldn't so since I now have no life (perks of being a Navy wife) I'm giving this a go! I already have the idea set up and everything as it has been a side project I've been wanting to start for a while now. I may even get Fate to do me a commission possibly.
As for my name it's...drum roll please...Sighlent! Lol.
Feel free to add me you guys.

Re: NaNoWriMo
Well, I guess I'll join. I need an actual reason to keep myself writing/not put if off until tomorrow so I can start it a week from then. I'll likely register and Stion Gyas.

I'm registered as "Barsch", but really, I only use MSN (shortly before it all starts, MSN contact threads will pop up so you find lots of other people around, willing for sprints and everything.)

Re: NaNoWriMo
You have to add them anyway, Stion. ^^
Though, granted, it's easier to do so once you can see them all in the "buddy of" section.

Unfortunately so. I've added everybody in the thread, except Silv and Ryona.
If you guys want... I can establish an IRC channel for FOG NaNoWriMo. If I get enough "yes"s I'll invest the three seconds to make one.

Re: NaNoWriMo
I'm giving in to peer pressure.
But it's okay. All the cool kids are doing it, and I want in too.
Gives me a good reason to do nothing for a month.
