Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
Hmm, well according to this article, Astronomy of Middle-earth, the sun did indeed originally go from west to east, but then he changed the mythology a bit to be more round-earth realistic.
But it doesn't seem clear which holds true for the actual Lord of the Rings story.
And I guess Eärendil was just the morning/evening star? Sailing his ship in the sky with the silmaril strapped to his forehead? There was a Maia who carried the fruit of Laurelin (the sun) across the sky, I guess. And the one carrying the moon followed it somewhat sporadically.
Except in the modified version Melkor tore a chunk out of the world and made the moon, where nothing grows and stuff.
So... I'm not really sure where that leaves us.
A normal east to west would be easiest, I suppose. And probably what Tolkien wanted since he changed the original version. I'm just not certain what it's supposed to be.

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
Using this as reference:
After the first sunrise in the West, Varda had planned for the Sun, and its companion the Moon, to remain forever in a nightless sky. She was persuaded against this by Lórien and Estë, and at last called the Sun back into Valinor: for those east of the Great Sea, this was the first sunset. From that time onward, the Sun descended each evening into the depths of the Outer Sea, and passed beneath the World, to rise again in the eastern sky as she does to this day.
Bolded the important part, so yeah - I think it's normal east-to-west. As in our world.
And yep, Earendil and his ship became the Evening Star or the Star of High Hope as the elves named it (can't remember the Elvish name for it, I'm afraid).

Just to throw out an idea... I don't know if we intended on keeping the exact same posting order for the entire RP, but if we wanted to make some progress, I know my character is still just waiting for Ryona's to respond after the bandit ambush. If Blackrock is still knee-deep in finals by the time Kalon posts, Ryona and I could potentially carry on the Aethylwyn/Elendyne exchange and then Blackrock could catch up.
Just a thought! I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes if someone else has some good plot ideas. Right now my schedule is pretty open for writing posts, so I was just trying to think of ways to keep the momentum going.
I'm fine with this if Blackrock is.
Kalon, we should probably stick to the standard if there are no obvious sources stating otherwise.

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
This has already pretty much been answered, but as far as I know, Middle-earth is basically ancient Earth; The Lord of The Rings/Silmarillion is Earth's mythology. Therefore, I would imagine that it would follow what ours does.

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
The way I imagined it is that they would encounter a small force of Balcoth just south of the river, before they crossed. As they fight, parts of the rest of the Northern Army will arrive, crushing the remaining Balcoth. At that point, they wait at the river, possibly sending scouts ahead like you said, and then crossing once everyone is there. The reason I imagined them waiting is because they would want to cross in force. Otherwise, it would be easy for ambushes to pick them off.
You can do whatever you want with it, even skipping the battle altogether if you want. It was just an idea I had when making the timeline to make it a bit more interesting. You can also have them cross however/whenever you wish, if you don't agree with my reasoning.
After the crossing, I was thinking that they would encounter several advance waves of Balcoth, which would force them farther north to cross Limlight. There they would trapped.
Does that answer your questions? Again, feel free to make whatever changes you need.

Hah. xD And don't worry, I am.
My plan is to finish it on Saturday, but I might be able to finish it tomorrow. We'll see. I've made progress, so I kinda know what to write. ^_^

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
There! ^_^
It's long compared to what I would write before FOG, but short compared to what I do now. *shrug*
It was nice to do a night scene. ^^
Are we still doing the post order? I feel likeSilvYsopet and I could do with another quick round to get the crossing done.
I'm fine either way, though. I don't know if my post puts us ahead of everyone else or not. I don't even know what day it would be.
Timeline?

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
I think that you guys should begin working on another post, and Silvan and I can work on another, and Blackrock can be working on his, and whoever is done first can post first. I don't think any will interfere. In fact, Blackrock may want to wait until Silvan and I post ours, for then he'll have more to go off of (I do believe we are coming close to being called to battle).
If you look at mine and Ysopet's posts, you will find that I am on 25th of march (very early morning, before sunrise) and that you are on 21st of March, heading into the 22nd. That makes you about three days behind us in storyline. Everyone may want to add a time stamp to the top of their posts to help remember where we are on the timeline.

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
I'm game to start working on another post. Fair warning, this week is pretty crazy with meetings and studying for a midterm, but I can work on stuff in my spare time as a break.
I'll go back and add time stamps to my posts when I get a little free time tonight or tomorrow.

That's fine, Silvan. What I think I'll do is write a response to you and send it via PM, and we'll continue from there. That way we can each work on it at our own convenience.

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
I left off the timestamp because I had no clear idea how long it should take. xD
I figure Ysopet's next post will define when mine took place, at which time I can add the appropriate timestamp.

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
I haven't read it yet, but I will after I fill out this application for advancement at my job. Not sure if I will start writing right away yet or not. I still owe Blackrock a post in Sephiris.

I'm sorry I've not PMed you yet, Silvan. I haven't had much time and even less inspiration. I'm hoping to get started this weekend!

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
Just throwing in a post to say that I'm still alive, but swamped with stuff from university. Haven't had much free time lately, so that means I've taken a step back from FOG in general. Still, being a LOTR nerd to the bone, I'm still very much looking forward to doing this.

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
Were Silv--Ysopet and I still doing more posts for our characters or is it fine for anyone to post?
Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
I know I am supposed to be working on a collaboration post with Silvan, but I really just haven't been able to scrape up the energy to write. I've tried on multiple occasions but I can't seem to get anything to come out. I'll keep trying, but I can't say when I'll get anything up. If anyone has something they want to post, please don't let me stop you.
Edit: I sent a paragraph to Silvan Arrow. Hopefully this means a post should be coming soon.

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
Coolio. Yeah, that can so easily happen. I guess that's why most authors try to write something every day, even a little, no matter what, 'cause it can be hard to get back into it if there's even a short break. Kinda scary.
I know it's hard for me to write something every day; I really should try harder at that. I mean, I do probably write plenty of non-fiction every day, like here, xD, so I guess it makes a difference when you're doing fiction.

*dusts off the OOC thread*
Hey, everyone! I just wanted to let you know that Gadreille and I have been going back and forth working on a coop post for the past week or so. It's already nice and long with a little more to go, so we promise it will be worth the wait!
Also, can I just say that I really enjoy doing these coop posts? We can cover so much more dialogue and make it more involved rather than posting little snippets in separate posts and trying to fit them together somehow.

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
I'm going to post here so I don't forget, sorry if this sounds cryptic to everyone but Silvan:
I'm going to have Leohelm tell Elendyne that his people have no interest in war, that she's come to the wrong place. He'll give her a place to stay for the night and then she needs to move on. Aethylwyn will question him, asking that he take it to the village council. He will very bluntly refuse, saying there is no reason for there is no war. However, Sometime the next day before they leave, a rider will come in announcing that the eotheod are mustering for war. At this point the elves will realize that they must go to the muster, and Aethylwyn will be going too.
Is that OK?
(Keep in mind, our post will end at him saying that she needs to move on. I want to give Blackrock time to post before we get to the muster.)

Re: The Battle of Celebrant OOC
Bleh forgot to drop a comment here, but I re-read it just now and wanted to ask something, because I think there's been some confusion. In your post Leohelm is in his bed and gets awakened and so forth, but at the end of my last post - he's with his brother in the woods and night is falling. I had intended for them to spend the night there and then return them to Greybarrow on the morning. Although it seems Leohelm has managed to teleport himself to bed, while his brother is still amidst the woods...
The easiest way to solve this is to simply play with the days and make Helmgar's and Leohelm's trip a day earlier, so by the time the elves arrive he can be safely in his home. Thoughts?

Ah. I didn't know he was meant to be out all night.
We can mess with the date if you want. In all actuality, you were supposed to post before me. Another option would be for you to write something that would precede ours.

Still alive - although I'm just beginning my finals (and before that I had quite a few projects/courseworks to turn in), which means that I'll soon have time to write up a post. Might even start in the next few days, during the downtime between studying for the various subjects.
About time too....
