Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Gunneh, that video was hilarious. It reminded me of a scene from the show Angel when the main character was asked to dance. All of a sudden, it showed him dancing like a reject, and it cuts back to him standing right where he was when he was asked, and he's like, "I don't dance."

^^ LOL
So, I was quoted in this article which promotes a screening of the LOTR extended trilogy in theaters for the next three weeks (one showing per week). If you read the article, you will figure out who I am quickly, and that what I said was very heartfelt. So, one of my dad's less than kind friends posts this:
I thought that was rather rude, but today I woke up to find that my dad had defended my honor:
(Just to be clear, my dad is as big a star wars fan as he is a LOTR fan. I wonder if she'll get his irony or just get pissed off)

This places needs more D&D fans, now there is a believable world....far as fantasy goes anyway.
Watching, or rather re-watching Kara no Kyoukai, they don't make them like that any more. I tell you anime has gotten a lot more... well.... less sophisticated since the western world decided to start watching it.

Ryona, that was great that your father stood up for you like that! That woman just sounds like a bizzle.
Hisoka, I haven't seen Kara no Kyoukai, but I really enjoy pretty much any anime I watch. What's the plot and/or premise of it?
You can't really blame the Western world for making anime less sophisticated. A lot of kinky, horrible things come from Japan. I think maybe there's simply been a mental shift where writers and animators can take more liberties with their works than they could in the past.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I suppose to make a long story short Kathryn the basic plot of Kara no Kyoukai is that of a woman with the ability to see the inherent mortality of everything, which more or less means their weakness. She can exploit this to instantly kill something or to slice it in half. This girl Shiki Ryogi is or rather was two separate people in one body, a sort of split personality from hell I suppose. Her day to day life as an adult is basically fighting ghosts and other paranormal events though the anime does do the standard flashback to her earlier life.
The actual story is a little more complicated then that but I'd rather not do the whole hundred page essay thing. The series originated in October 1998 as a series of five chapters released online on Nasu and Takeuchi's dojin-based website, Takeboki.
I can blame the Western World for a lot but exactly what horrible things come from the country of my Grandfather?

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
That sounds like a really neat show! I may try to watch it at some point.
I'm not saying that terrible things don't originate all over the place, but saying that anime has been corrupted into crappiness by the Western world is a bit unfair, namely when things like Tub Girl come out of Japan.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I gotta say if a single shock pic is the reason you defend the de-sophistication of anime at the hands of the western world... The shock image culture hardly originated in Japan.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
That was merely one example. I really don't want to sift through memories I'd rather forget just to give you a report of all of the terrible things that came from one country.
I didn't mean to offend you. I was simply on the defense about a statement you made that I don't feel was completely right when terrible things come from all over the world and influence the world as well.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
There is one difference between the de-sophistication of anime and shock pics. I can simply avoid going to sites like that where as with anime I am stuck between a rock and hard place. Either watch the old stuff for the thousandth time or not watch anime at all. Because honestly the plot lines for the new animes seem to be written by grade one students.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Yes, but not all of them are like that, and you can easily research to discern what the plots of anime shows are and how others rated them and why. Your options aren't as limited as you make them seem, and you're continuing to group an entire thing into one box. Westerners ruined anime ((box one)). All modern anime sucks ((box two)).

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Not to be technical but isn't that two boxes? Any how why is this topic so near and dear. Why not simply let it go like I let go of the fact the Evo 10 doesn't come with a clutch pedal despite being a stick shift?
Besides specifics get boring fast, it all basically comes down to the chicken and egg theory in the end.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
You took a different meaning from what I said. Let's say you have a whole group of multiple things. It goes into one box. Another group of multiple things goes into one box that is separate from the first box. That's how I meant it.
I just don't like the idea that people are closed minded about things. I like to keep my mind open, and I like my thoughts and opinions to be expanded.
However, here is me letting it go: Me + Topic = Finished

You do indeed have an obsession with that game. However I am not one to say anything about obsession, my former 'past time' was an obsession in it's own right. God how I miss the streets.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I've never seen Doctor Who. It just didn't seem all that interesting to me. Maybe some time in the future I'll watch it, but right now, I'm working on other things like Smallville ((by myself because my love has already seen it all)), Castle ((with the love)), and Game of Thrones ((with my love)).
That last one is effing amazing! I don't want to have to wait until Sunday to see more!!! >=(

Me I am gear head with a passion for his job and the culture to which it belongs. And until very recently I shall we say was a member of a culture that used cars in... a supposedly unsafe and illegal manner.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I'm not much of a TV person. Eats way too much time. Too many commercials, and I hate waiting for each new show. I just wait for them to come out on DVD or something. And I have Netfiix, and the library where I work, at my disposal. xD
Must see this new awesome thing with Sean Bean what's been made out of George R.R. Martin's books! HUZZAH!!

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Kalon, dude, yeah! Sean Bean is Ned/Eddard Stark, too! ^o_o^
The guy who's going to play Conan in the new Conan the Barbarian movie is Khal Drogo, too. I think his name is Jason Momoa or something.
Here's the trailer! According to my boyfriend, the show follows the books really closely. The next episode will be the tenth episode, and my love thinks it may be the last of the season with how events have been unfolding.
Artorius, is it good? I'm hooked on the show! It's amazing in my opinion! I always hate when an episode ends because I crave the next one so badly! I'm going to have to read the books now that I've seen the show. =3
