Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Sweet. I'll try and get the geography worked out soon so that you can have it for your map.
Edit: I completely forgot to mention this, but it's kind of important in regaurds to the map. Through me and Plague's building it came to be that we switched locations of our land chunks. It'll be more clear once I finish the map.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Good to know! The territories map is only up there as long as it takes me to finish the overall map...

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Alright, I've checked with all the relevant people and now I'm ready to present some of what I've been working on for Gunneh's and my island continent, Irrihyánë!
Gunneh's land is caled Äm.
My land is called Aendrel.
The entire island continent (the one depicted in the map) is called Irrihyánë.
Here's what I have so far. ^^
---------------------------------------------------
Histories of Aendrel
. : Origins of the Thendári : .
Long ago, twenty-six families of the Tawarwaith separated themselves from the Five Clans of Taurë Arda, the Forest Realm. At the time, the Five Clans were forming a general consensus and agreement to unite under a common government. The twenty-six families openly opposed the idea, holding that centralization would stifle creative thinking and growth as a race. They reasoned that it was better to remain as a loose confederation and allow their differences to remain as such, for variety, they said, was the catalyst for growth. These ideas were met with hostility, for there had recently been many small wars between the Five Clans, and all longed for peace and unity. In the end, the twenty-six families decided that it would be best for them to leave and begin afresh in a new land. Their country would be different from the union of the Five Clans, and over time, perhaps, their separate paths would one day cross, and perhaps the twenty-six families might be proven right. Thus leave they did, abandoning Taurë Arda, and for this they were named Avari, the Unfaithful. Much debate was made over the direction in which they ought to set out, but in the end they said: Let us follow the path of Anor the Day-star, that its light may guide us to our new home. And so they departed, into the west.
The Avari journeyed long and far. West they set out, and west they went, on and on and on, until at last the land ended and they found themselves upon the farthest shore, looking out upon a glassy sea, watching Anor the Day-star sink below the horizon, signaling the end of their journey. Here we will find rest, they said, and they made homes for themselves among the vast forests west of a spine of tall mountains, and they called that land Annûn, Sunfall.
And in the process of time, through perilous ages and years of glory, when their language changed and they began to serve the Light, the Avari changed their name from Unfaithful back to the Forest Folk. In their new language they became the Thendári, and their land, which had become a great island, was Irrihyánë, Sunfall as before, but their proper home they now knew as Aendrel, named for their graditude and their debt to the Spirits.
. : The Avari Transgression : .
Shortly after finding and settling their new home of Annûn, the Avari naturally took to their old ways of exploration and discovery, always searching their minds and their surroundings for things new and wondrous. They communed with the animals, they spoke with the trees. They drew wisdom from the rivers, the soil, and the stars. They came to worship the Day-star for its guidance and its life-giving power. They sought to engage with all things, great and small. Over the course of many years, they began to develop a skill for touching spirit to spirit and soul to soul. Meditation and ritual developed, and soon they discovered untold pools of wisdom beyond the earth, beyond the sky. To the pursuit of this wisdom and power they bent all their finest thought and skill. Eventually they said, Let us band together and find out once and for all whether the heavens will open for us. So a great ritual was prepared, wherein the greatest of the twenty-six families of the Avari would combine their strength and reach for the stars. They should have known better. In the end, though they succeeded, what came to pass was nothing they could have imagined.
The great ritual lasted for three days. Symbols were drawn in the earth and filled with blood. They danced unceasing, they chanted mystic words to focus their minds and unify their purpose. Herbs and flames and sweet-smelling smoke were everywhere. The most skilled voluntarily took herbs and lay down upon inward-facing altars to be struck unconscious. More blood, more chants, more smoke. In the final act, suddenly there was as it were a great draft in the sky above, levitating the altars and pulling the flames some distance into the air. All sound ceased as the world was sucked somewhat into the sky, like an upturned cup pulling on the surface of the water. In the following moment, all came crashing down again with force that put out the flames, sundered the altars, and broke elven bones. A screech of wrath was heard from the sky, and the Avari knew true fear.
"Death, hold back your hungered grasp!!" commanded a voice like the crash of many waters, the rush wind on the mountains, and the boom of thunder. "Dead, restrain your wand'ring feet!! Planes, maintain your sund'ring veils!!"
The Avari cowered prostrate, their faces to the ground, fearful unto death, not knowing what the terrible words might say or mean. Again the voice came, this time directed at the Avari, in their own language.
"Forest Folk, Unfaithful! As children walking by the mighty sea, you know not where you tread. Now your questing minds have taken you farther than is meet for your spirits to dwell, and you have wrought you know not what. Heaven's veil is torn, and death and dead do beg my leave to give them rein o'er flesh and bone. And more than this, in time there will be more who seek power or rumors of the same, twisted and hungered souls grasping for they know not what but greatness. This and more you have caused through folly and excess and ignorance and lust. For your transgression you must spend your lives to keep the rend which you have made. The future of your kind is forfeit."
The Avari remained immobile, unable to do aught but lie as dead to hear and understand what final words the speaker said. But suddenly and unexpectedly the voice became less harsh. "O Unfaithful, how rightly and yet wrongly were you named. Do not fear; your plight is known, and even now your future is not dark, surrendered though it be. You will not be left to fester in your trespass. I will send you one to guide your steps, one whom you have already known, and yet have not. He will teach you how to keep the veil.
"Now renew your hearts. The Forest Folk again I name you. Grow in strength and peace, and let your spirits rise and shine, and last until the world's end."
Then the voice departed, and the elven minds could take no more, but fainted there on the ground into a deep and dreamless slumber.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I don't know if anyone is anxious about the PM you recieved earlier, but I just want to let you know that over half of you have responded, and that response has been very mixed, except for option 3: 1/day posting.
Therefore, no major decisions have been reached, and it will probably be a couple of days before we release our final decision on posting style. I trust that everyone stays on board, regardless of whether or not their style of choice was chosen.

Maybe there could be a poll? It's just an idea, but that way everyone knows what things everyone else prefers and the reasons behind it?

Don't worry, I'm still on board. It would be kind of silly for me to bug out just because of a posting style.
Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Good to hear, Bird of Hermes
Silvone and I debated this a long while, but we decided that it would be easier if we did not do a poll. Of course, we will not restrict you guys from asking one another your opinions...but we didn't want to give the impression that whichever was most popular will be chosen, nor promote a place where discussion could turn into debate and into argument. That said, we definitely wanted to ask everyone's opinion before making the decision, so that you may share your ideas with us...but we decided that PM would be the most effective way to do so.

Yeah. I was worried about it turning into arguing, too. I didn't realize that the most popular may not win, though. The PM's seem like the best option in this case.

Well, it is likely that most popular will be chosen, but not necessarily true. I mean, I'm not going to purposely go against the grain or anything, but I don't want to have it set in stone either. At least, not until the role play begins

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Ok so Kalon, Gunneh, and I were in the FOG Chat and we ran into this HUGE argument. So please enlighten us.
My argument is that these planes (Earth, Light, Dark) have no affect on the Material Plane. Am I correct?
Because the way they are seeing it is that the Light Plane is the light of Emoria, the Earth plane is the greenery and such for Emoria and so on and so forth. That pretty much the other planes make up the Material Plane of Emoria. When I'm pretty sure that they're separate entity and have technically nothing to do with them.
Because whenever we ran into the debate with Raptorman on his Shadow Plane it was plainly stated that what is within these planes are NOT visible from the Material Plane.
So please which is it?

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I would say it was more of a... discussion. ^^
My view is that there are much more to the Planes than the bits that intersect to make up the Material Plane. Everything that follows is my current concept.
The Matearial Plane is a hollow sphere, a realm where the different planes intersect to form Emoria. All the Planes extend far beyond what is seen in the Material Plane, and have realms and creatures and beings of their own.
The Light Plane surrounds the spherical Material Plane, and extends all the way to the Sun (which doesn't necessarily sit millions of miles away). It supplies light, without which all would be black with darkness.
The Air Plane surrounds the Material Plane, overlapping both the Light Plane and the Earth Plane. It supplies air and space, without which nothing would have room to move, and there would be no breath of life.
The Water Plane intersects the Material Plane as rivers, rain and sea. Without it there could be no life; all would be dry, dead earth.
The Earth Plane supplies the stone and soil. Without the earth plane, everything would be floating. The Earth Plane extends beyond that which provides the ground of Emoria.
The Shadow Plane is below the crusty surface of the Material Plane, and its energy creates shadows and darkness. It overlaps the surface of Emoria at the Mountains of Night. It supplies darkness, without which everything would be white with light.
The Fire plane is a great ball of fire at the center of the sphere--basically a Core like that inside RL Earth. It supplies heat, without which all would be frozen solid.
The Spirit Plane surrounds and permeates all. Without it there would be no order, no natural law.
So, I imagine the whole thing in several ways at once.
In a way it's like a Venn diagram.
In a way it's like a color cone.
In a way it's like an atom.
In a way it's like a color wheel--one of those red-blue-green triple circles that intersect in four places.
Sort-of like a 3D color-wheel-thing. Yeah. Where the middle bit is Emoria. ^^

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Yeah, it was a discussion with you. And argument with Gunneh.
But anyway....
I put this together to go into further detail about the Breale and their relationship with Mira because it was brought to my attention that I didn't explain it as well as I could have.
First off, what is Mira?
Mira IS the earth. She is Gaia. The spirit of Emoria. Now this doesn't have to do anything with your country or whatnot if you don't want it too. Regardless she does exist, but not everyone is aware of her existence or they just don't believe in her, or perhaps they call her by another name. She is NOT a person. She is an essence. A great power that moves the seas and heralds the seasons.
Mira in relevance to the Breale:
Emoria has thus far been portrayed as a world of war and violence, and whether unbeknown or known to them Mira grew tired of being used for such. So, by way of will and the great power that allowed her to create the towering mountains and winding rivers she took the greater two species (Elvin kin and humans) and together molded the first of the Breale. They would be of both worlds and able to walk among them belonging to both while at the same time being of their own people. They would be the peace keepers and healers meant to undo the centuries of damage done to her and one another.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I've done it!! xD
Here's a little something I whipped up on MS Paint. I thought it'd be awful, but it turned out pretty cool! ^^
Here's my visual concept of the intersecting planes.
The Material Plane is in the middle. It's what would be called Emoria.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Here's a question that I didn't think of at first, simply because it's so simple.
Where's the sun? Does this material plane have one, or is light supplied entirely by the plane of light? if there isn't a sun, than obviously lots of things are going to actually live dependent entirely on the energy the get from the plane of light. if there is a sun, it implies the possible existence of other celestial bodies, which could be beyond the veil of the planes (or even still within it, I guess). Are there stars? Forgive me if any of these questions have been addressed, but I honestly don't remember anything about it.

I imagined that there was a sun, but I would appreciate input from everyone about this.
Silvone thinks it would be interesting to have the plane of light be the source of light, but this is dependent on what the creators of the planes think.
As for Kalon and Sigh, you will have to ask Bird of Hermes and Kathryn Lacey, since they created the planes. Honestly, I haven't gotten a good grasp on them yet, and was just going to go with the flow

Would it be alright if I sign up for this. I'm still getting caught up in the reading (made it to page eight) and will continue once I get back from classes. I will try to get a CS up by the end of the day and would like to claim my land now if that is alright.
The area I was looking at starts at the "Florida"-like peninsula that Elric gave up and extends a little ways into the main continent. Like I said, I'll get more specific this afternoon with boundaries and the sort.

As long as you collaborate with Plaguewalker and Shadow Moonseye, who have been working on the history of the area, then you are most welcome to join!
As long as you've read the info on the first page, you really don't have to worry about the rest of the OOC.

Alright, I want to make it clear that they are going to have to co exist in another person's world space. We've run out of room on the map, so either they are a very small group or they are a part of someone elses world space.
If they can agree to this, they are most welcome to join.
Edit: These two members are going to be our last joining members until the role play begins. If we continue accepting and waiting on character sheets we will never be able to start the role play. There is a notice on the first post. We had planned for this to always be open, but it seems that even Emoria has a carrying capacity!

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Kalon and Sighlent, when Hermes and I created the Planes of Existence, we decided that they would have nothing to do with the Material Plane. All eight Planes once were all accessible by more than just the Portals, but wars over power and conquering more space forced the hand of the Spirit Plane. The boundaries were made to keep all Planes away from one another, and they can only be accessed via the Portals. The only exceptions are the rifts between the Shadow Plane and Material Plane that was caused by Morgarath and the rift caused by the Thendári between Material and Spirit.
Anyway, if you read the Portal Lore, you’ll see that each plane gave the Material Plane something, and they also contributed together to form living entities for the Material Plane. After they did that, their work was done with the Material Plane. They no longer had anything to do with them once the boundaries were formed, but their creations were left behind and continued to work effectively.
The other planes do overlap the Material Plane, but they no longer have any effect on the Material Plane now that their gifts are completed.
The same thing sort of happened with the Earth Plane in a way. The creators of the Plane of Earth created structures and mountains and stone creatures, and when they left to go back to the Plane of Spirit, their creations remained behind.
Buzz, I imagine there is a sun, and I had thought that the sun and stars and were something created by the Plane of Light. Both Kalon and Dax seemed to have agreed with me about this when I sent them PM’s about the Portal Lore, but I wasn’t very specific, so maybe they didn’t? I think it’s the best way to go about it because otherwise, the Plane of Light doesn’t fit with the other Planes of Existence or the Lore upon which everyone ((including Raptor)) agreed.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Thanks for answering those questions, Kathryn! Can we assume that this is final now? It fits in rather well, so unless someone else has a super awesome idea that still manages to fit in with everything else, I think it is good.

Okay, so I'm more than happy to share the continent with Loki, but after that I dunno if we can take anymore people and still have our species able to exist in the way that me and Plague want them to. I've already PMed Loki so we can work stuff out.
Also, in case anyone is interested, I made a rough topigraphical map of the continent.
The upper part that loki want's is subject to change, depending on what Loki wants to do. Once he Pms be back with his border I'll throw up the border map I made. Anyways, hope everyone likes my map (and can read my hand writing...)

(This is Ryona...)
That map is wonderful! I understand what you mean, which is why I have closed the RP to new members. Hopefully IRLGoat and Asyrdar will fit in on one of the other continents. There is still lots of room on the North continent, not to mention a few unoccupied islands.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Thank you! I spent a good two or three hours on it yesterday, so I'm glad you like it!
Also, I've got the species all worked out, so it's now just a matter of me typing everything up in an easy to understand way.

Asyrdar's character is going to be a Senator for the Republic of Äm. I'm not sure what IRLGoat is going to do, but she wanted to do something close with Asyrdar's character.

That's good. That island was a bit big for just the two of you
I think, once we get this role-play going and re-open it to new players, we might be opening the new landmass. It depends on how the story goes, and if we get more interest afterward.

Good idea. We need to start setting things in stone.
Also, I am not going to update the map until everything is more or less finalized. That way I don't have to keep re-doing it.
I also have decided to write in a biography for my character since everyone else seems to have done one.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I like the idea of setting the general information concerning the Planes in stone. Of course, if anyone else decides to make their character from one of the six other available ((Hermes (Air) and Raptor (Shadow) are the only ones who have characters from another Plane)) planes of existence, then more detail may be incorporated, but the rules of the Planes still stand.
I still need to lightly flesh out the territories of Taurë Arda ((Buzzwolf is almost done with Hyarya - the western forest territory - and he'll include that in his own character sheet. Forya is the main one for which I need to make details because my character's father is from that territory.
I also need to create a bio and detail Taurë Arda's deities. XD
