Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Ah yes, I am quite familiar with the technology in LotR, that would be a fine base for Ayren war tech. The guns I had in mind would be something very rare to see on the battlefield. Mainly used as an instrument of fear, it would be loaded with rubble, shards of unusable materials, etc and fired at the heart of armored soldiers or cavalry to disrupt their ranks. Its basically an oversized shotgun with one good usage before swords are drawn in a large battle.
As far as Idona being the only place to have it, I say whatever you all think is fair.
To counter your opinion Raptorman, I don't want to come off the wrong way, but marksmanship is just as difficult as swordplay or any other battlefield practice. Guns are very complicated tools that require a lot of practice to master, and any shooter will tell you that target practice and practical shooting are worlds apart. I don't want to make this an argument about guns being used or not, especially considering my intended use for them, but they're a very valid weapon in their own right.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I don't think that is too out there, especially if it is rare. I would imagine creating such a weapon would take much time, resources and skill, and not every mercenary would be walking around with one...Go ahead and use it if you would like.
More importantly, I could totally see an Uruk-hai using one, so I'm sold

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Oh no, it would take at least 3 people to carry it and set it up to fire. As for maybe a secondary use to cover the bomb idea, the 6 or 7 barrels it fires from could be capped to turn the gun into a sort of pipe bomb device that explodes when the fuse is lit. The same thing happens to most real guns if the barrel is clogged with excessive dirt since the expanding gases have nowhere to go, so that keeps true to a bit of makeshift realism turned into a weapon. I'm just throwing ideas out right now, but if I were a barbarian on a budget that's how I'd put my resources to good use.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I think it is a good idea. It is rather fairly balanced as a one-use, bulky weapon. And keep in mind that after being used enough on a battle-field, the weapon would likely be copied by other cultures. So it isn't like the technology is completely exclusive to your own. As of now, of course, you are the only ones who know of it. I'm just trying to point why I believe the weapon to be balanced, as I'm sure it will come up again in the future
Can you do me a favor, DeadEye, and write up something that I can put in the History/Lore section, that way people don't have to search through the OOC to find where we mentioned it?

That won't be a problem at all. When I get it written up I will PM it to you so that you can edit the appropriate post where its needed. I want to get a good understanding of my neighbors history first so I can write something that intertwines nicely with theirs.
That said, does anyone mind having a few historical battles with their armies being bolstered with a few Ayren mercenaries?

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
You can have battles with the sorceresses, if you want to. I'm not sure what it would have been about, perhaps the sorcs were trying to gain access and control of the explosive powder resources and failed?
You don't want to be enemies with Sigh because she has major food resources, while you have none. I'm not sure about your other neighbors though.
Edit: I just thought I'd let everyone know I am allies with Silvone's people and enemy of Dax's people. Oh and anyone that has their character sheet up, just let us know if you need to make changes!

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
A question does anyone want their nation to be friendly with the Mountains of night?
It means you likely will be seen as a bad guy.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Raptor, the Elven country of Taurë Arda will not be friendly with the Mountains of Night. Do you mind if I add that area as an enemy of my country? You may do the same.
All right, so I'm almost done with my country, and all I have left to do with my character sheet is describe Saila's appearance which is subject to change upon completion of the portrait that Kalon is creating for me.
Also, the Allies and Enemies portions are also subject to editing as I don't really know of any emenies or allies for my country to have with the exception of Raptor's Mountains, and I won't until I am able to complete the country.
I'm really excited because I found this amazing website that actually teaches one how to speak/read two different forms of Elvish, so I'm using that a lot to help me with this. ^^_^^

There is no issue with that.
Do you happen to know where the UN esque meeting will be?

It's going to be held in the Great Library of Nolwë at the center of the city/state of Nolwë Orso that is in the center of Taurë Arda. ^^_^^

Then there will be some tension. Because as a head of state morgarath will be attending the meeting. He is after all respected as a gentleman even though he is evil and a lord of darkness.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
There will be a lot of tension. People from all over will be coming, thrust into a meeting with allies, and enemies. Dax and I have established that our people are enemies, but we most certainly will both be at the meeting.

I know though it isn't everyday that the Darklord himself makes an appearance. Though he normally does show up when a council is called. Simply to cultivate a certain appearance. You know what I mean.
Now I am really looking forward to this getting started

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
That's okay. There are four main roads that were made for foreign travelers that lead through the forests that house the Quendi ((name for Elves)) into the city itself. It enables the Quendi of the forests to keep outsiders out, and it makes it safer for foreigners to travel to the City of Knowledge without fear of repercussion so long as they stick to those roads. ^^_^^

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
He might just teleport himself. Though he can't teleport his escort. So perhaps he will travel slightly more conventionally.
Advice?
Advice?

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Well, he would be able to travel safely to Nolwë Orso via the main roads without a problem because Taurë Arda isn't actually at war with him or his people just yet. Just keep him from entering the forests themselves, and you'll be good.
I also want to let you know that it's impossible for anyone to teleport directly inside the Library itself. There are powerful magical barriers that prevent it. The only way to get inside the library is to either climb the ten stories from the portal or to enter it the traditional way.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
So the library, the vatiene, and the dark tower are all places that teleportation doesn't work with?
The Dark tower being Morgarath's capital city fortress. He can teleport in and out but no one else besides him and his servants.
And a question, are you saying that the Library is more powerful than Morgarath?

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I wouldn't put it that way, but if you must ask, then yes. The library was created far enough back that it's one of those structures that seems to have always been there. It's location was specifically chosen to cover and hide the material plane's portal. Many magical forces of many different races and species gathered to place protective spells over that specific area, and they were made to be everlasting.
Of course, he can teleport to be right in front of the steps of the library ((or anywhere else in the city)) if he so chooses, but he'd have to actually walk to get up those steps and into the building.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Well it wasn't blessed by him nor the races of shadow, nor the races of man he rules over.
Pretty much nothing of his ever blessed the library.
Though I do see your point. Similar I suppose to fact that no one can teleport into the Darktower then right? Also similar to the fact that the dark Tower literally cannot be destroyed.
I suppose the home of knowledge and the home of darkness both would have protection against destruction by the other.
Does that make sense?

And we talk to trees...so I'm pretty sure we could make your environment come to life and eat you. Just because. XD
Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I'm nearly done my character, but essential to the history of my race is being constantly embattled. I need to have been embattled with one of the other races here at some point during our history. Location doesn't really matter since my race has since migrated to a new homeland. Would anyone like to discuss maybe tying in the history of our two races? I can show whomever the character sheet I have thus far and let them decide if they'd like to be involved or not.
Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Raptor, it really doesn't matter that none of Morgarath's people haven't blessed the library, for it was given blessings by a great combination of forces from all over the world ((possibly from other planes, too, but I haven't worked that out yet)). So yes, if your character's tower was just blessed by Shadow, then I'm certain that my character's library will also be protected from having been blessed and having had protective spells cast by powerful forces from time-out-of-mind.
OMG! Sigh, I haven't read any of anyone's world spaces yet, but the Quendi also talk to trees. I think our world-spaces should be allies. Plus... you have more food to export, so yeah. ^^_^^
Caleb, if you want to PM me the portion of your sheet that describes your world-space, maybe we can talk about your people having been enemies of my people at one point? The Quendi haven't had any potential enemies aside from Raptor's people, so yeah. ^^_^^

My world seems so not complex now. I came up with the history of the Plane of Air, but I haven't really come up with places in it, cities, roads, etc. I guess I need to come up with that.

That would be a good idea, actually. The Plane of Air was just the rough description for the purposes of having all of the Elemental Planes posted together in a timely manner. Now that that's done, creating the cities and layout and such wouldn't be so bad.
Maybe you could even make a map for it since it's such a big area?

I can try and make one. I already have an idea for Ion's fortress. I was in Louisiana History class today and we were discussing the use of Vauban style forts, which are shaped like stars to be easily defended.
Oh. As pictures go... Here is one of various elementals. I realized I used the term and people may not have the same mental image as me.

ZOMG!!! We're cousins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD
And yeah we do have the food. Haha.
Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
That's actually pretty cool, and it's a good image of Elementals to have in mind. They kind of remind me of those monsters from the cartoon movie Hercules. =3
Sigh, you know how there are several religions that feature the same god(s) with different names and different practices? I don't see why our two countries couldn't have a similar vein of thought. Once I have my character sheet all finished and posted, I'll PM you to work something out between our two countries. Sound good? May I mark the Sretin Providences as an ally to Taurë Arda?

I would like to claim that little patch of islands off to the left... Is that cool?
If so, I can have a character sheet up sometime after I'm finished with my entry for the contest.

I'm not sure which islands you are referring to. Left of the black X? If so, they are yours!
If you are referring to the group of 7 islands to the left of the southern continent, those are taken by Elric.
