Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Hey guys, I probably should of uploaded this sooner, but upon seeing Raptorman' detail map of the Mountains of Night I had to do some adjusting. As such it should be noted that my topigraphical map is no longer entirely acurate, since the mountains now stretch further into the continent than I had originaly thought. Its not a big deal, but if you want me to I can make a new topigraphical map that is accurate. Just say the word and I will.
Anywho, back to the original reason for this. Here is the map of the southern continent that shows borders between lands.
Hope that this clears up and prevents any disputes between borders. Obviously, Plague's lands are Korun Otak and my lands are Wyluutaan Jerigg.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Thanks buzzwulf for mentioning that program! Really helped me, as I was wondering what software to use when drawing a map. Obviously, I would have preferred working by hand, but I don't have a scanner, so not much point in that
Anyhow, I played around in AutoREALM for a while and am finally ready to present my monstrosity. I may do some tweaking in the future (a finishing touch in Photoshop or some such), but for now I think it will suffice. Some names on the map will be explained the next time I update my character sheet.

Great map! Gosh, I need to be working on my world map...Bad Ryona >.<
Updated maps and such!
Here is a sneak peek on what I am working on. I have a lot left to do, but I hope you enjoy what I have so far. I know that it is not an exact replica of your own maps, but I am doing the best I can. It is only geographical so far, but I plan on adding a political layer as well.

Sweet map Ryona! Would you be able to include a scale as well? When I tried scaling continents based off North America, Kvatch came out to be about the same size as California. Does that sound about right?

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
With Silvone's help, I should be able to create a scale. He seemed to have an idea of what he wanted each land mass to be sized.
According to him, Talonia is about the size of the US, which would be 3000 miles across (about 4800 km).
It doesn't seem unreasonable to suggest that Kvatch is the size of Cali.

Ryona, I really like how the map you're creating looks like it's actually on paper. It's pretty cool. I look forward to seeing more of it.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I had had a bit larger of a scale in mind. But no matter lol, it wasn't exactly a conscious thing going on.
I had thought it to be more the size scale of europe, africa and asia together. Rather than north and south america.
Nice map though regardless of scaling discrepancies lol

Hey, just a quick question. When I was plotting out the I'nak and the geography and stuff, I remember reading a while back in the thread that the Southern continent was about the size of Australia. Is that correct?

In terms of guestimation, it is correct. But it all depends how exact we want to be with this thing. Again, I need to discuss this with SIlv. He's off hunting big game in the kitchen...

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I have a friend who is just joining FOG now. She is good at RP stuff and expressed interest in joining this. I was wondering if perhaps we could let her join as well?
I know you already closed it for the moment, I am just making a request for a friend.

Question!
Is there any idea on how we're starting this? Is everyone supposed to be an ambassador or something? Because I'm rather confused and knowing how we're going to start might help me with my character. (since I'm kinda stumped at the moment)

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
@Raptorman: She can join under certain conditions
1. I don't want to have to wait on her character sheet. We've been waiting long enough for everyone to get their character sheets in and I don't want to have to stall the role-play any longer because of one extra person we added on. So, once this role-play is ready to start, we will start with or without her.
2. There is no open world-space, unless she manages to squeeze in between other players areas. So she is going to have to work with someone. Like I've said before, I'm not going to open a new landmass until the role-play has started and we have enough new players to make it worth opening.
3. I would like her to post here, declaring her interest. We already have a member Gunneh said wanted to participate, whom we haven't yet heard a word from. She hasn't even been online since the beginning of February. So I don't know if we are expecting anything from her or not. So I would prefer if your friend communicates with us, especially as a late-comer.
@Shadow Moonseye: We don't yet have any solid plans on how we are starting this. I was holding off serious discussion until we had all of the character sheets in at least. We've had some discussions, and come up with the idea that the story will begin with each country/nation sending representatives to a world meeting. The characters would only need to be ambassadors in the sense that their own country chose them to go for some specific reason: either they are great warriors, great politicians, or whatever. So your character doesn't necessarily have to be political, but it should stand out in some way for your nation to have decided to send him/her. Or, I guess your character could just be following the footsteps of someone greater, and just happens to be along for the ride. Though it seems that might be harder to work with.
Concerning the scale of Emoria:
I had originally thought that the northern continent would be approximately the size of North America. That doesn't mean it is exact, it just means that we could assume, in making our world-spaces, that was about how much room we had to work with. If we all want it bigger, it can be bigger. If we want it smaller, it can be smaller. Considering our world-spaces so far, it might turn out to be a little smaller, unless our maps are smaller scale than normal. It is something we will have to decide on so we can place a scale on the map.
I think Eurasia is a bit big for the northern continent, but if everyone wants it to be that large, then that is fine. We just need to make sure that is understood on the scale so that when people see our compiled maps, they will realize it is a bit larger than it seems.

Asyrdar isn't going to join the roleplay and IRLGoat probably won't either since their characters were pretty much dependent on each other. I just found this out not too long ago lol

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Okay, thank you! I figured that that was the premis we were still sticking to, but I wanted to double check.
Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Ok, so I recently learned that Morgaraths minions are NOT composed of orcs!
I said: "Psht, what is an evil army without orcs, I say!"
Well, I have a suggestion to maketo Raptor so I can see orcs.
So, as you all may know, Vatienniens are Sildari, humans with some elven traits. Now, watch this...
Alright, well during the second war, when Morg got to the gates of the city of Vatienne (while he was being pushed back) he was able to bring alot of Vatiennien prisoners with him and with all of those prisoners, he was able to extract the 'elven trace' of that huge group and was able to create an orc from all of that.
Simple as that.

I am of whom Raptorman speaks. It appears I have much reading to do to catch up on what is going on here, and while I am very excited and intrigued by this idea, I am more than happy to just read it, as it appears I am a bit late. This is no fault of anyone's. Raptorman was simply offering me a roleplay to 'jump in' to when I came from another forum he and I used to write in.
However, I will try my best to read and see what lands there are, though I am a bit lost as to how I can cooperate with a player and their land just yet, as it is theirs. - Though, something tells me this is better left with me out of it, seeing as so much work and progress has already been made with the original creators that I would be more of a hassle to tie in than just left out. ;]
Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Well, all you really need to do is read up on the character profiles. I'm trying to update everything in the information thread, but its taking a while due to school work and my own laziness.
If you find a land you like, just PM the member, or ask them here, if you can participate with them.
For example, if you wanted to belong to the people with Spire, which is my own group, I would give you all of the relevant information for you to make a character sheet. You decide what you want to be within that culture, you make your character, and we would collaborate on anything we write, concerning Spire, in the future.
So, anyone that you want to join with will do the same, if they are willing. Or you can wait a bit until we start the role-play. At some point, if we get enough interest, we will open up the rest of the other landmass so that new characters can claim their world-space and join in the role-play. That depends both on the amount of interest we get as well as how the story progresses and where the plot goes.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
If you want to have a Quendë ((Elvish)) character from Taurë Arda, I would be more than willing to accommodate. There are four forest territories, and two of them are purposefully being left mostly undetailed in case anyone wants a character from those lands. Of course, Buzzwolf is working on a character from Hyarya, and my character's father is from Forya, but I'm sure if you want a character from either of those territories, either Buzz and/or myself would be more than happy to work with you.
There's also the city/state of Nolwë Osto in the center of Taurë Arda. It has people from all over the world, so if you wanted a human who was also a part of the City of Knowledge, that would be cool, too.
If you don't want a character who is from my nation or my city/state, that's perfectly fine. I won't be offended. I just wanted you to know that the offer is there.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Kathryn, you are indeed a sweetheart.
But as fate would have it, Raptorman invited me into this joint, and I have been requested from him to join his evil charade.
But perhaps later on, if it is permitted, I can make a second character? (On that note, I do not know how the rules go about here (on the site), but I am quite accustomed to playing multiple characters with depth to each of them evenly, and so if that is ever permitted, I would not mind at all. However, if that is not something that is done on this site, I will not miss a wink of sleep over it. ;] One character is certainly enough.)

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
No need to use the smaller font, Attie. It's a little distracting, to be honest.
As far as second characters in this particular role-play, my understanding is that we're sticking with one main one, at least for now. Since these characters are based on the portraits I've been making, the idea was to have our avatars coincide with the characters we play in this story (though we've taken steps to allow some wiggle room).
I would guess that second characters might eventually become available, but for now it's probably safer to stick with one. *shrug* So I guess the answer to your question would be 'yes, most likely.'

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Good lord, I almost posted this in the wrong section...
The Character Sheet for Avarinne by Attie
Username: Attie
Character Name: Avarinne
Species/Race: Human - Quasi Immortal (She cannot be killed by illness, age, or malady of the body.)
Physical Description: Avarinne stands at about 5'6, outlined in rather beautiful curves that are only accented further by her platinum blond curls that reach just below her chest. Her eyes are the lightest shade of grey, a sort of light in the midst of the darkened storm she grew up in. Her skin is ivory, due to the lack of sun in such a place of residence, and out of fear and stress of living in a kingdom ruled by a God of Darkness, she looks slightly starved-thin, though otherwise healthy.
Age: Avarinne has just barely turned twenty, her birthday unleashing her the powers of darkness bestowed upon her at birth. It was this twentieth birthday that also unlocked the destiny of becoming Morgarath's chosen 'wife', which will leave her a very important decision: run, or live in darkness for the rest of her days, which will be a very long time, seeing as she has become quasi immortal due to such historical events as becoming a god's wife.
Gender: Female
Occupation: Before, she was the only a seamstress of her small town at the edge of the Mountains of Night. After, she is the destined wife of Morgarath, and Lady of Night in becoming so.
Skills: As she has just been awakened by the darkness, her powers are minor, only increased in danger by emotion and expression. Flickers of fire the size of a match's flare, becoming invisible upon shadows (not necessarily teleporting yet, like Morgarath), and the occasional sense of a darkened wit about her snake charmed tongue, speaking a language that would conjure up between only she and Morgarath that not even she knew she had until he would first speak to her.
World-space:
There are small cities within these mountains that also inhabit humans. Within this city, the humans believe in Morgarath as a god, and have made their ways of living purely out of hope for pleasing him so that ill fates do not venture their way.
Allies: Morgarath, the god.
Enemies: Anyone opposing Morgarath, for if Avarinne was not, it might be life threatening.
Religion/Deity(s): She is not particularly religious, having Morgarath for a god of darkness, but she is about to believe a great deal more.
Governing Body: Morgarath.

World-space:
Morgarath rules over the Mountains of Night. A dark land eternally shrouded in shadows where the sunlight never breaks through and the perpetual light is much like twilight. The Land is covered in massive mountains that stretch nearly a mile up into the sky and the clouds of shadows swarm eternal around them. It is believed that the gate to the fabled plane of shadows lies in the center of the mountains. Some have also speculated that the Mountains really are the plane of shadows overlapping the world. The cities here are grand with spiraling architecture and spires that stretch towards the sky in many places.
The Capital city is more a fortress than a city and is normally referred to simply as the Darktower. It lies in the very center of the Mountains atop the tallest of them all. The Darktower seems to sprout from the mountain itself and is a black color that is unlike any other on Emoria. It seems that darkness pulses out from it as if the tower were alive.
To the north and the south of the Mountains the massive North and South walls have been raised in more recent years. They only came into being after the last Illuria War III when Morgarath realized the risks of under defended borders. He raised them from the earth the same way he called forth the Darktower. To the South of the South wall itself lie the Razors a nearly impassable mountain range. These mountains due to their nature serve as a primary barrier to invasion from the south.
There are small cities within these mountains that also inhabit humans. Within this city, the humans believe in Morgarath as a god, and have made their ways of living purely out of hope for pleasing him so that ill fates do not venture their way.
Allies: Morgarath, the god.

Due to previous comments, I figured it was + points if I got this done.. Now. -smiles-
I am online almost constantly, as my classes are as well. So, this is easy for me. -chuckles- Especially with the email updates to remind me.
Thank you, for the compliments.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Ok, this one text was surprisingly occupying a large portion of my time, so I am proud to present it! If you find any mistakes, please point them out so I can correct them, I am only human.
Now, I know that there will be disaccordances with me declaring that everyone thinks that Morgarath is dead, so here are my suggestions:
Results: mix of 2-4
2-Everyone thought, at one point, that Morgarath was dead, but now see that he is alive... and thriving.
4- Everyone knows Morgarath has been alive but Vatienne, being the arrogant fools that they are, thinks he is dead, no matter what the others say!
- Spoiler:
- The year was –1 and the greatest and last battle of the Third Illurian War was to take place. On one side lies a sea of Vatiennien soldiers’ wearing iron and silver armor, some mounted and some on foot. They were mixed with elves, courageously and admirably fighting at their allies’ side and mercenaries from the Guild of Heroes of Spire.
On the other side, however, goblins, trolls and even some of the dreaded beings known only as the Higher hungered for death.
As the hundreds of thousands of men, elves and evil beings prepared to fight what was to prove for many their last battle, the clouds over the Dark Tower of the Mountains of Night seemed to get darker by the second. It seemed as if a storm was churning in the bowels of heaven. The air itself was charged with electricity. The atmosphere seemed to get colder, more inhospitable. Eventually, a faint drizzle started… that soon developed into stronger and stronger rain until a real storm was brewing. The wind was at phenomenal strength and speed. The weather was indeed reflecting the gravity of the situation.
Horns were blown, drums were beaten and a wave of steel, magic and claws thrashed upon each other. The Quendi cut down beast after beast with their magical spells and blades, as did the Vatiennien soldiers and priests.
The Papus of Vatienne himself was present, fighting at the front lines and shooting down the enemies of the Light with bolts of pure light energy. In fact, the Papus was not the only important figure in the midst of battle. The High Generals of Taurë Arda were not too far, fighting valiantly with the elite mercenaries of Spire.
What the forces of good did not know or see, however, was that Morgarath the Dark Lord himself was watching the battle from the top of the tower. The torrential rains and stormy winds making his black robes beat violently in the air. It seemed, however, that the weather seemed not to derange the Dark Lord. He just stood there, hands crossed behind his back, studying the outcome of the battle.
Since the very beginning of this skirmish, the Destroyer of Hopes’ gaze shifted from the High Generals of Taurë Arda, to mercenaries of Spire and to the Papus of Vatienne. However, his eagle-like vision finally settled on the old Papus who was in charge of the entire campaign.
“Weak, pathetic goblins,” thought Morgarath out loud as he saw his minions get slaughtered beneath the might of the combined forces of good. “This is almost too disgusting to watch…” continued Morgarath, a devilish smile creeping up on his face, “almost.”
As soon as the rather sinister smile appeared, it disappeared. His thoughts replaced by intense, indescribable anger. His head filled with unfathomable dark thoughts and hatred towards the forces at his doorstep. In fact, even a hint of fear showed its face before being violently dismissed.
Morgarath un-crossed his arms and heavily breathed in, then out. He could not hold his hate any longer. It was time to remove those pestering bugs from his sight.
Without another thought, Morgarath dissolved into a dark smoke that resembled the storm clouds above him and dived towards the battle. He located the Papus of Vatienne and started spiraling around him, thus isolating him from the rest of the soldiers.
Making a sizable circle, Morgarath rematerialized exactly on the opposite side of the makeshift arena, opposing the Papus Gregory III of Vatienne. Without warning, an unholy fire erupted all along the perimeter of the circle, trapping the two beings inside.
Two of the most powerful men in the world of their time started a stare-down.
Now, if you looked at the Papus Gregory III physically, he looked like an old, frail man with absolutely no intimidation that would be inspired from his body. In fact, he looked quite pitiful. However, if you looked at his spirit and used your heart, he was a veritable well of Light, a beacon amidst the darkness that surrounds everything.
Morgarath, on the other hand, emanated pure evil. It seemed to ooze from his cloak and flow through his veins. Simply being near him was enough to send lesser men fleeing in terror and even some to bow in submission. There was something indescribably… hideous about his faintly glowing eyes under his concealing hood. To most, it was the last thing they ever saw.
“Well, well, well,” started the Papus, “Our host has finally decided to show up! What owes us the pleasure!”
Morgarath could feel his skin crawl under the boiling rage that he controlled with great pain. He simply looked at him and saw him physically … and chuckled. He then looked at his soul… and swallowed hard. This well of seemingly pure Light frightened him, but only for a moment. Nothing has ever stopped the Dark Lord before, and it was sure as everything not going to start now.
“ Die.” Those were the only words uttered by the Dark Lord before he lunged towards this ‘Well of Light’, intent on extinguishing this bright essence forever.
Gregory the III braced his frail body and stated: “No, not as long as blood flows through my veins and my head sits on my shoulders. I will not falter and the Light will use me as His weapon of righteousness to smite you.”
Right after the Papus had said that, both men came into contact. The shockwave of power that came out of that blow was awe-inspiring. The unholy fire surrounding the men was extinguished as a result, but it also knocked over many of the soldiers and dark minions.
Amidst this chaos and this struggle lock, no one could see the Papus’ face turn to fear, disappointment and then acceptance. Because at that moment, the Papus of Vatienne felt what he was facing. He was too old, too frail and far from his peak of power. This Dark Lord, on the other hand, seemed rather young, fresh and full of himself.
The old priest, at that moment, knew that his fight was lost.
With a grunt, the Papus repulsed Morgarath off of him and was able to recuperate enough to be able to catch his breath and take a few steps back.
“No…” was all that the old man said, before Morgarath attacked him again, this time with a blast of kind of black matter that is said to only exist in the Shadow Plane.
The Papus quickly erected a sanctuary around him, protecting him from the blast. He then dissipated his personal barrier immediately, ran to the left side of the dueling ring and shot off two bolts of pure light.
Morgarath who simply jumped over one of the bolts, dodged it easily. The bolt landed in a sea of soldiers, killing friend and enemy alike. The second one, however, landed right where the Dark lord touched down, creating a cloud of dust and dirt, momentarily blinding the evil master.
Seeing his advantage, the Papus ran towards him and took the Sanctus Virga, the holy staff of the Papus, and infused it with light energy, preparing to strike.
As the Papus was doing this, the clouds from the sky seemed to have started to converge towards Morgarath, making a sort of mini tornado with purple lightning sporadically going off inside.
Gregory the III, however, did not take note and ran towards this mass of this purplish black mass of cloud, getting ready to make the decisive strike.
The hysterical laughter of Morgarath broke through the air.
This devilish sound did not stop the Papus, who stroke the mass of cloud, hoping to end this war once and for all. However, the completely unexpected happened.
An explosion of pure energy erupted from the contact of the Holy staff and the evil being, creating a massive flash of a rainbow-like explosion, knocking many soldiers, mercenaries, elves and evil beings alike into the air.
Screams were heard, an unearthly crack resonated and an evil laughter erupted once more. Nothing could be seen, however, because black sand formed a sort of mist in the air.
When this dust settled, a horrific spectacle awaited those that were still alive to watch it.
Morgarath was standing, his dark figure proudly and confidently standing over the destroyed shards of the Sanctus Virga and a Papus that lay on the floor.
Purple and black energy and electricity snaked around Morgaraths imposing body, which was accentuated by the rain and wind that had suddenly multiplied ten-fold. Morgaraths seemingly smiling face lowered to the Papus:
“And you will die.”
“I may die, monster, but my people will not rest until you are but a pile of ash, burnt by the Light! This is NOT the end!” screamed the Papus that now had a expression of self-accomplishment mixed with anger. This was indeed the end.
“We will just have to see about that, wont we?” cackled Morgarath, as he took a black dagger from his belt and in a lightning motion cleanly severed the Papus’ head.
As soon as this happened, it is said that the light in Emoria seemingly got darker and the glow in every temple in Vatienne dimmed, and hope that glowed soo brightly in the eyes of Vatiennien soldiers and civilians extinguished. Others say it was not a diminution of Light that caused this, but augmentation of the Darkness in the world that was to be held responsible.
Seeing the head of their beloved Papus tore a screeching scream from many of the soldiers, not from fear or disgust, but pure and total anger.
The Vatiennien soldiers, in an uncontrollable rage, followed by the Quendi and mercenaries from the Guild of Heroes, seemingly all converged to Morgarath to kill he who killed their own.
It was if the goblins, trolls and dark creatures mattered naught and all that was wanted was the blood of the Dark Lord.
At the sight of the countless soldiers converging towards him, all with a crazy glow in their eye, made even the Dark Lord lose concentration even for just a second.
Morgarath had previously shown his capabilities in magic but what happened next is still a mystery to all and is yet unexplained.
From the bowels of the Dark Tower, a blood-wrenching scream of battle, followed by an absence of all light. When the light returned, everything, both goblin and elf, Higher and Vatiennien, lay motionless and dead. Morgarath himself lay unconscious on the cold earth and the body of the Papus nowhere to be found.
The surviving members of the Coalition ran in pure terror, followed even by goblins and trolls. It is said that Morgarath lay there, on the earth, for two days until he finally regained consciousness, seeing that his power had temporarily been weakened by this super-massive explosion. The fact that he survived this event was a miracle all unto itself.
When the armies of the Coalition returned home, claiming victory, for they thought the Dark Lord dead in the explosion, rejoiced! The Vatienniens, however, mourned the loss of their Papus. The shards of the Sanctus Virga are now displayed in the Great Cathedral of Vatienne as a grim reminder of what happened on that fateful day.
Morgarath, on the other hand, remains in his Dark Tower, regaining slowly his strength…
