Shadow Mooneye, you are welcome to join! I'm glad you are already working with Plaguewalker, that makes things run much more smoothly.

Kathryn, I love the portal. It is FKING AMAZING! I never imagined it like that. I was thinking like TP's in diablo Razz

I've gotta wake Silv up so he can update the first page...We have a system here. I'm the mediator GM and he's the...write everything...GM...

Thanks, Ryona. Don't worry about having Silvone place the Portal on the first page just yet. I'll just PM him with something he can copy/paste into the first posts, and it'll be linked in the Portal Lore.

Now, is the Shadow Plane JUST in the Mountains of Night, or are the Mountains of Night the only place where it OVERLAPS the Material Plane?
'Cause that would be cool. If the Light Plane surrounds everything, then it makes sense for the Shadow Plane to be UNDER everything, which is AWESOME! xD

Does anyone mind if I attempt to create a timeline for events using the dates that everyone has submitted?

I don't mind, personally, but don't become upset if people want certain things changed on the one you create.

How many civilizations are you including in the timeline? I know I haven't written mine yet, but in my history I'm going to note that the Ayre fought one conflict with the people of Spire over a conscription contract. After a few minor skirmishes they resolved to stay out of each other's affairs considering the conditions each nation lived under.
I'm also working a bit on the history between the Drenata and the Ayre, but I'm not done yet. It involves a good bit of violence though.

Well I'm sure the timeline would be a work in progress. I sure would appreciate one, it would be great to put up on the first page.

Internet issues resolved for now, so if you need us we should be here.

So far we still need land claims from a couple of people, and character sheets from a few people as well. After that, we can do some finalization and then actually start this RP.

I don't want to rush anybody so I'm going to give it a few days. If by then no one has updated their info, I'll start sending out PMs.

I've given up my land claim. I'm not really looking to do something really complicated for my first character since coming back, although if that's not alright, I'll be fine with making something. I just can't promise it'll have anything to do with my character. As for my character, I have pretty much everything done but that character bio, which takes me the longest. This is just an update so you know what's going on with me.

Ryona, Buzz's character originates from one of the four forest territories in Taurë Arda, so he and I are going to work together to flesh out that particular world-space.

Buzz, as far as the world-space section of your sheet goes, we should start fleshing that out, so you can add that part to your sheet.

Also, 5 people have yet to vote for the name of the world. The link can be found in the beginning of the OOC. I'll give it a while longer, but there is already a name in the lead and if no one else votes, that will become the name of the world.

Hey! I just want to let everyone know that my character, Saila, is fluent in several languages. She sort of has to be for her job as a scribe. I as a player am seriously learning Quenya ((one of Tolkien's Elvish languages)) for this role play because that's her first language and it's the official language of Taurë Arda.

If anyone else is using any language for their world-space and character other than the Common Tongue ((which I assume would be English)), please let me know, so I can better decide if Saila would know that language, too. So far, the only languages that I know that she'll be able to speak and to read are Quenya, the Common Tongue, and the language of the Thendári which is what Kalon's race of people are called.

I doubt that she would know the languages from the other Planes of Existence, but she will know several from the Material Plane. I at least want her to be fluent in four languages, but she has a great memory and a good brain for learning new languages, so it's likely that she could know up to six or seven languages ((though I'm sure by the fifth, she wouldn't be as fluent as she is with Quenya, Common, Thendári, and whatever the fourth may be)).

Sighlent, if the people of the Sretin Providences speak something other than Common, I think that would likely be Saila's second language due to her mother being from that country, so that would give me four, but if they really mostly just speak Common, I'll need something else under the belt of my Half-Quendë.

I imagined my sorceresses speaking common heavily accented with another language, an old and dying language that was not well preserved, so only a cache of words and phrases have survived. They cannot speak fluently in this older language, nor read/write it beyond sounding it out with the written common word. I'm not sure what to call that language, but I imagine it a a bit like native american languages but harsher and louder, perhaps like a tribal african language.

Hm... Well, translation is her specialty. Her main job as a scribe is to translate written works into other languages. This stems from both wanting to preserve works in all languages and because there are people from all over the world in Nolwë Orso, and not all of them have learned languages other than their own culture's.

If there are any people from Corbina's swamp/plain country, I think it's possible that Saila would maybe know a few words or phrases, but not as many as there are still existing in the language. Which is fine.

I mean, not everyone who learns other languages clearly remembers everything from them. I took four years of Spanish in high school, and I only remember a few snippets of things, and I recognize a word or two every now and again.

Having other languages in our world just adds more depth to the world itself. ^^_^^

I think that my character would speak common very deliberately, like someone who is trying very hard to get the language right. Her first language would be Voltalic, the language of the Ionairus.

Oh! If our characters know one another, they could help each other learn the others language and such. Like... If Venteux was trying really hard to learn Common, Saila could help teach it to her since Common is one of her main languages in which she's fluent. In return, it would probably be helpful if Venteux taught Saila bits of Voltalic because it would make translation and teaching between them easier.

What do you think?

That would work. They would most likely know each other because Venteux is a portal guardian.

Well, for the heck of it, my nations official language will be Vadeir.
Vadeir is, basically, French.

I am fluent in the lagnuage so incorportating it in the RP should not be a problem.

Kathryn, will your charactcer, or you, be able to add that to your known languages thing?

Morgarath speaks the ancient language of shadow. His kingdoms language is not common either but essentially Latin by another yet undecided name.

Dax, since Vatienne participated in the war that was a pretty big deal, I'm sure Saila would know it. I, personally, don't really know very much. The only thing I can say in French is, "My name is Kathryn." However, I don't know how to spell any of it.

I think it's something like, "J'mapple Kathryn." but yeah... :: fails ::

I was thinking that maybe if I, personally, need help translating something or saying it for a post, I can always just PM the person whose character is fluent with that language. Does anyone have a problem with that?

If anyone wants to have their character fluent in Quenya, I would be happy to do the same. For instance, Buzz's character is going to be Quendë, so I'm sure I'll be helping him with it and such.

Raptor, I honestly don't think that Saila would know much of the language of Shadow. First, the only real information the library would have on the Shadow Plane and the Mountains of Night would be information from the biggest war(s) that has/have occurred in the past, and possibly any information written/told by people who traveled through the Mountains and lived. This information would not have been written or spoken by those fluent in that language. However, I'm sure there may be at least one phrase or something that would have been heard, so maybe she would know that, but it's otherwise completely unlikely.

Most people would I expect know the phrase meaning "glory to Morgarath simply because that was said bttle cry in the last war and previous wars.

On that note though, I didn't really expect her to know the language. I was just saying what it was.

Okay, so here are the languages I'm certain she knows so far:

- Quenya: the official language of Taurë Arda
- Common: the common language of the world
- Thendári: the official language of Aendrel
- Vadier: the official language of Vatienne
- Voltac: the official language of the Ionairus

I don't actually know if Thendári is right. I just know that Thendári is the name for Kalon's elves. If he corrects me, I'll be able to change it.

I'm going to keep it simple and say the Ayre used to speak their own language that's about as comprehensible as what they speak in Greenland, but they converted to the common language to facilitate easier relations with other cultures. That said, I have a few years of French under my belt and loose understanding of Arabic, lol.
Kat, you were close, the proper spelling would be Je m'appelle (insert name). The contraction Je me appelle removes the e in 'me' to make of roll off the tongue easier, a pattern you see a lot in French when a word ending in a vowel is followed by another word that begins with a vowel.
Anyway, I'm sure you probably already knew that, but its just for the record.
