You guys are all awesome
Geography has been updated with the map.
There really is no telling just how old the world really is. Even if Morgorath came about 10,000 years ago, how would he knew if there were being inhabiting the planet 100,000 years before that? Time can only be marked by events. The Shadow Realm will measure time since the birth of the Dark Lord himself. Our cultures of the material plane will likely measure time by whatever method Kathryn's nation uses, since they are the center of knowledge it seems.

I'd like to request that the Portal to the Spirit Plane be located within Kalon and my island.

I know there is no way for him to tell, I was saying that the age was 11,023 years.
Disclaimer- I don't like that should my ideas conflict my ideas seem to be scrapped in favor of whoever they conflict with.

Also, about Gunneh's request for a portal to the Spirit Plane. We have a better idea. The request basically still stands, but it's not a proper Portal. I'll explain it tomorrow. xD
We're calling our island continent Irrihyánë, and I'm calling my worldspace Aendrel.
(more coming in the form of my character sheet, hopefully)

You know what, Raptorman, he didn't disagree with you on the actual years. He was just saying that no one would measure by the actual years. He agreed with you. Your land will measure by the birth of the dark lord, but other lands won't becuase they won't know when the dark lord was born.
Besides the fact, you are given the most powerful indivdiual out of everyone. OF COURSE we have to ask other people if it is ok. I could easily have told you that you could not have a powerful person, that my sorceresses are more powerful or whatever. The balance of you having a powerful character is that we have to put a lot of restrictions on his influence outside of the land.
Beyond all of this, I just want to say this:
If you don't quit this piss poor attitude I may just dump your territory. I am sick of it, Raptorman!

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
No, actually, I wasn't quite agreeing about the age, just the method of determining the date. I'm actually saying I don't want to put a limit on the age of the world because NOBODY would know how old the world is. Nobody. Why? Because NOBODY has been around long enough to know. Not to mention, putting a date on the beginning of the world is a stupid damn idea because you can't say "oh yes, the world seems stable now, and it wasn't 10 minutes ago, so I guess we can say it started this year and not last year."
I don't want an age to the world because it creates a limit that we can't go passed if we suddenly deside, by the way the story is progressing, that we want something to have happened, say, 100,000 years ago.
Not to mention, Raptorman, that this is the Out Of Character "Discussion" thread, where we discuss things. Just because someone mentions something different than what you say, doesn't mean that your idea has been completely scratched. It means that someone disagrees, and so it is up for discussion until we come up with a community concensus. I've noticed that you don't seem to like that idea, as you think that once you think of some idea it is set in stone, and you throw a fit if we have to modify it in any way to fit with the others.
You want to hear what another player did? They PM'd me apologizing that they had made their character so close to mine and asked if I wanted them to change it so that the world would have more variety. I told them that, while I was grateful that they actually cared, there was no need, that it would actually make the story more interesting.
That is the kind of attitude I expect from the participants in this role-play. I expect EVERYONE to be willing to change and adapt based on how this story progresses. If you can't handle that, Raptorman, then this isn't the role-play for you. This is the last time I'm going to say this. If it happens again, you are gone. That's that.
Now, back to discussion, the age of the world is still up for debate. If you read everything above, you know my opinion about it but I would like to hear other opinions, obviously. If you all like the date that Raptorman suggested then by all means we will go with it.
I will update the main page soon with your and Gunneh's geography names, Kalon. And I certainly don't mind about the portal, but Kathryn and Bird of Hermes have put the most work into that area so I would say it is up to them.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Personally, I would like to hear about what this "partial-portal" thing means before I make an opinion.
However, I will state that Hermes and I came to the conclusion that there is only one portal per plane, and all portals lead to every other portal. I sketched my idea for what each portal itself looks like. It's just a rough sketch, but I'm going to the library today to see if they have a scanner I can use to get it onto a computer and into a disk or something.
Anyway, the only portal in the material world is located ten stories beneath the library. The Plane of Light's portal would be located somewhere within the Plane of Light. If someone was to travel from the Plane of Light to the Material Plane, they would go from the Light Portal to the Material Portal that's located in the basement.
The only person of whom we know that is able to travel without the portals is Morgarath, and anyone else who has the ability finds it to be extremely corrupting to their mental state. Basically, they turn evil the more they do it.
If you want, you can PM Hermes and myself to discuss this partial-portal business, or you can just state it here for everyone to discuss.

How many years ago was the end of the third great war? I propose that this be what everyone but the shadow realm measures time from.
Also, plane beings may have a different way of measuring time...but that is up to whomever is a plane being.
Edit: Also, if you haven't already, you can vote for the name of the world HERE.

Ryona, I really like that idea. I was trying to think of an event that would be the start of the system of years ((the way Jesus being born is our system)), but I couldn't think of anything. Your idea sounds fabulous.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I just had a really good Idea though.
You know how the great wars ended with various endings. Well the last of the great wars ended with Morgarath and the Mountains of night being forced back into their mountain strongholds and nearly defeated.
Perhaps It is just now that Morgarath and his kingdom are beginning to stir in more than simple diplomacy?
Perhaps the war was long enough ago that people have begun to forget the power the Mountains can unleash?

Three things after sifting through at least a page of new posts:
One: Let's keep it civil, ya'll. We're big boys and girls here. I now have "We Didn't Start the Fire" in my head.
Two: Beautiful! Why am I drawing up a map and not Kalon?! That thing is absolutely beautiful.
Three: Silvone, make sure you put anything of importance about the world, people and history on the first posts. My head is spinning with all the new information and I know I'll need to re-read it.

[modcard] This time I received a complaint, so just go ahead and imagine me wearing some sort of moderator badge while I'm saying this (It's very shiny, no? OW! I just pricked my finger!)
Anyway, silliness aside, I'm not happy with the way things are going: When there are about three or four posts from OTHER USERS who are trying to maintain civility in a thread full of wonderful people and writers, it does not make for a very happy Gunneh.
Raptorman, I'm focusing on YOU here. These are not things to get so utterly frustrated by: As Silvone said, it's not set in stone just because you think of it or maybe mention it to someone at some point. Also, in the context of how threads actually work on the forums, Silvone and Ryona are the GMs, so their word is law. When that law is broken repeatedly, it's my job to step in.
Just think of me as the law ABOVE the law.
Point is, this is the final warning shot. One more complaint from anyone, and the offense will be noted and dealt with accordingly. [/modcard]
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming

hahah I'm glad that you thought of it. I was so lost, especially when Silvone said something about the Library deciding when time begins because it's the source of knowledge. I was like ":: gulps :: I has no ideas..."
Anyway, Raptor, I like the idea that Morgarath is just starting to gain back his power and influence. I also like that people may have forgotten just how badass that area can be though I think that the Mountains of Night should still be seen as a bad omen and generally avoided if possible. You know?

Yes I do see that.
This is tentative since I haven't spoken with dax yet, but I think the last war, would have happened about 2,000 years ago

haha, 16 people in 1 Rp, fantastic!
Anyway, as for the amout of time that has gone since the end of the Third Great War, 2,000 seems perfect.
As for the age of the world, I am voting for the 'undetermined' camp.
By the way, Gunneh, we have to talk politics! I already started, somewhat, discussions with Kalon but since both of you seem to be inhabiting the 'Island of Light', you, sir, are next on The List.

I'm really trying. I'm sacrificing homework time to keep up with everything (and to deal with baby-sitting issues ). I've got homework that is due in just a couple of hours and then I have to go watch Citizen Kane for my History of Film class...
Maybe tonight...but I still have to work on a post for Avatar that I have been promising Ryona for weeks, as well as a post in Sephiris. It would help a lot if you guys could write up some stuff that I could just simply copy and paste. I do like to write this stuff up myself, and had originally intended to do just that. But I just don't have time to do it at the moment. Maybe won't until this quarter is done and over with...
Also, concerning the most recent problem (yes, another one), I may be stating, as in setting in stone, a few things concerning the world. I didn't really want to do this, but it may be necessary for a few things. I will keep you all posted.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
K, here is my suggestion. This is not based off of sides, just off of empirical sense. Somemay not like it, but the best thing to do is work with it.
This is the general idea of how I want it to be, and what I think makes sense and is fair.
I also want to make it clear that no one has control of these "spirits". These are beings that were before ANYONE and do not interfere with this life any more.
Edit: I changed a small bit in case someone already read it: Raptorman does not have to build his tower 2000 years after birth, he may have built it sooner. Really the same can go for the elves, I thought 2000 was a good number is all.
The spirits are related to no land, this much seems obvious. So, spirits created portals many many eons ago. After the portals came life. Morgorath came to be as the first of the elves came to be. The very first elves, 4 in number, were of lesser power than Morgorath, but stronger than "modern" elves are today. After 2000 years of existence, they built the library to tie portal powers and protect their knowledge within it. Within the 2000 years, the Dark Lord has built his tower that is also powerful and protected. Today, the 4 original elves have perished (for they do not seek immortality) and have been replaced with less powerful elves who do not live as long. These elves do not have the power, but do have control over the library which was made long ago.
This is the general idea of how I want it to be, and what I think makes sense and is fair.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Well, I've got an idea I'd like to run by you all, since it involves a large amount of space and would be fresh.
My nation that I am creating was once a large empire that spanned most of the southern contienant. It had reached the height of decadence and excess. One hundred years ago, my character destroyed this nation with a series of well executed murders of almost every high ranking member of the empire during a large meeting. Without leadership, the empire and it's people crumbled and burned seemingly overnight.
Now the 'nation' is limited to only the Marshlands of the south of the contienant. While they wouldn't bost the power nor the sheer adaptivity that the other heavy war nations have, they are unquestionable far more ruthless and infinantly more destructive. They'd court death and dance along the lines mortality. The nation's people(a seperate species which has yet to be named) are standing at a crossroads, and there are only two paths. They will overcome this destruction, and rise as a united people to once again burn and rule, or go extinct.
Would this be allowed, and if anyone would like to link with them, fire me a PM. I'm open to any ideas at all and would love some extra input!

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I think this is fine except that we have two members who have not claimed land, and it limits the history of this area should one or both of those members choose land on the southern continent.
That said, the question becomes: does Caleb or Buzzwulf wish to claim land on the southern continent, and if so, do they mind incorporating your idea into their territories? You may want to PM them about it.
If there is a discreprency, then I suggest limiting your history to the southern half of the continent. That is still a very large world space.
No one else should have an issue with this because no one else is on the S. continent. Elric is on islands but we can easily say that your people never made it to those islands.

Well...I've been haunting this thread long enough, I think. Would it be alright if I joined?
Here's the chunk of land I want. Sorry for taking such a big portion, but I'm making a tribal type people from a big forest/jungle area and the southern continent seemed like the best place for that.
I'm already working out stuff with Plague, since my people would collide with his ideas.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
Yeah. That sounds fine with me as far as the whole Morgarath verses Library thing goes. I also like that the Spirits though real are not playable as NPC's or as regular characters. I had intended for them to be that way anyway, but having a GM state it helps a lot.
I was able to scan my sketch of the Portal, and I'll link it in the bit of Portal Lore that I had written once I revise it. However, I'm going to post it here for those of you who want to see it now.
As you can see, it's not perfect. It's neither perfectly round nor perfectly centered. I also didn't do a very good spacing job between each of the symbols. The shading is also imperfect, and the scanner actually made it look kind of grainy.
The Portal
I want to explain that the Portal itself is the very center thing, and it's sort of raised in the middle... Like a round jewel or whatever, but not like... super raised.
The circles surrounding it are dials, and they're controlled via the levers that are on the table. One pulls the proper lever until the symbol one wants is surrounded by the bars. Certain combinations of symbols will open the way to certain portals.
The entire thing is on the floor ((with the exceptions of the levers which are on a raised stone table of sorts)), and the dials are made of stone. The portal itself is made of some kind of indestructible glass of some kind.
If you're curious, the first dial ((the one closest to the portal itself)) contains Rune symbols, the second contains Alchemy symbols, the third contains Pagan symbols, and the fourth contains Native American symbols ((with the exception of one symbol which is Mayan. It's the one that's between the hand and the double diamond with the dot between it.)).
I haven't really decided the exact size of the portal. The levers could be big enough that more than one person has to pull it, or it could be small enough that only one has to do it. I would assume that the portal itself is able to have several people standing on it at once, though.

That's really nice, Kathryn. I love the Portal drawing. It's real nice to see it.

Re: Emoria: World-Building OOC
I'm glad you like it since you and I worked hard on most of the planes and the idea for the portal. It does look a bit like the dial-system from Avatar: The Last Airbender that I showed you, but I wanted it to surround the portal, and not just be off to the side. However, I couldn't decide how to get dials that big turning, so the levers seemed like a good idea. ^^_^^

Second: I'm still here... I like what I'm reading, and will be adding to the discussion soon. I just need to fully read the first page to get a better idea of everything that's going on.
