Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Actually, the last book takes place about ten to fifteen years ago. I guess that's modern times. XD

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I'm still a bit excited about a Harry Potter roleplay. The ones I've been in have never managed to make it past getting sorted.
In other news, from reading someone's onexone search, I'm suddenly also interested in an idea involving royal families. But I might have to think more about this one.

:: sighs :: When the books were written, they were written to take place during modern times. Seven books takes more than one year to produce. The first one was based during the 90's which was when it came out.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
@Kathryn: Right, so the last book ends about ten years ago in 1997 (ish).
It's interesting, because the North American Wizarding school(s) might not even do Sorting- that's a totally British thing.
I'm slightly interested in doing an RP with faeries, but I don't understand the mythology enough to make it accurate. Though I might be able to bring one in in a different RP I'm in. -ponders-

Yeah, but that's what I mean. It was modern day when it was written.
Ugh... I feel woozy... However, I'm almost ready to post the new Avatar role play.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Well, yeah, it is modern day. I guess I should have been more clear when I said modern day; I meant more like, more presently, if that makes sense. ^^;
I was actually kind of disappointed when I found out that Harry Potter takes place in the 90s- I felt a little disillusioned cuz I was picturing everything happening like, in the 2000s. XD

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Yeah well, that's what happens when you're forced to write seven epic books. It takes longer than a couple of years, but the books all take place one year after another. Thus, it began in the present and ended in the past. hahah

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Weird~~~~ 8D I am glad that I got back into them. I stopped after the fourth one came out, cuz she took so long with the fifth, and by the time it was released I just didn't care. But I spent the past six months reading all of them to be caught up by the time HBP came out in theaters (I succeeded, yay ) and now I'm so sad that they're over.
Have you read The Tales of Beedle the Bard?

No, I haven't. I've heard of it, but my library doesn't have it.

Ah. It's really cute and really good- I read it in about two hours. You should look into it if you get a chance.

You weren't kidding, Chapter 11 was really pointless lol. I still like the series so far, and I actually have a big liking towards earth bending =P.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Lol I can't remember what Chapter 11 is. I should go continue watching the series. I'm too tired to do anything else right now anyway. Earthbending is pretty neat! ^^
Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Chapter 11 was the one where they crossed the Great Divide, and the two tribes of people were fighting and hated each other. Eventually, they were forced to work together to get the canon crawlers to lead them out of the canon. It was dumb, and everything was over-exaggerated and stereotypical.

Ohhhh, yeah. I remember that. Lol aw yeah, it was pretty much how you described it.
Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Since we're talking about Avatar, who wants to see the movie "The Last Air Bender?"

Me too! ^___^ *can't wait*
LOL So, I'm finding it very amusing that a lot of people that have never read the Harry Potter books are getting outraged after seeing this new movie. Like, "That was a horrible way to end the movie! I HATE Snape!" XD If only they knew...

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I guess I shouldn't watch it then. But speaking of bad endings. The worst ending I've ever saw was in The Mist. That wasn't even in the book! Why would they do something so messed up! D:

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Aw, well you still can see it. It might just confuse you though, hehe. But, it does make the twist in the movies to come more interesting.
I never got to read the book The Mist, but I actually enjoyed the movie. For some reason, I was one of those people that the ending didn't bother. I guess I'm fine without a classic Hollywood ending. What happened at the end in the book?

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
So, I just got back from Barns & Noble. TJ decided he wanted to get a new French dictionary since we're taking French 3 next semester. Anyway, I gots me a dirty French book, lol. It's really quite amusing.
And I liked The Mist, the ending to the movie had a Twilight Zone type of feel to it, which was apparently what King was going for when he decided to change it for the movie. I forget what the book ending was.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
The ending compared to the movie was very mellow. They went to some town that was the "safe zone" I guess. And... that was it. No killing. Just more driving.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Yeah, that sounds very mellow compared to the movie ending. I think TJ told me that he enjoyed the movie's ending better than the book's.
Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I want to see The Last Airbender, too. In fact, I created a whole discussion thread about Avatar: The Last Airbender and the upcoming movie. ^^_^^
I've never read or seen The Mist, but I heard it was all right. I'm pretty sure they changed the ending to make it better for the movies. If the whole end was just them going to some safe zone, it wouldn't have been as interesting for viewers. While readers are often fine with a mellow ending, viewers have a tendency toward the opposite. They almost always expect something epic.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Yeah, I guess in this kind of movie it was a good ending. I just relate to things/people too much, and if I had been in that situation I wouldn't know what to do with myself! D8 I cried! D'X
I saw the preview when I went with some friends to see Transformers (which for some reason has complaints for being too loud... Really? It's a robot movie, what'd ya expect). At first I didn't think it was what it was. I thought it was just gonna be another kung fu movie. Then I saw something that really looked similar to an Air Bending blast thing. I got really excited when I had a hunch what it was. Then I saw the ships...
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-!!! XD

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
hahahah Yeah. I had to watch the teaser trailer via YouTube. I can't wait until the full trailer comes to light. ^^_^^ I want to know how the rest of the gaang looks for it. I really do like the way they made Aang look, and I've sort of seen Zuko which was okay. I want to know if Katara and Sokka and Iroh live up to my expectations.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
It's kinda weird, but I have a doubt that Iroh will be in the movie. He's kinda a minor character. Just to make it short, they might've cut him out. Hm... [researches]

No. They've already cast someone for his role. You seriously need to go to the Avatar thread I made here. We talk about the show and the movie.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
So, I had a dream last night... In which I was Harry Potter... and I woke up just after 'Harry' leaned in and started kissing Ginny inside these ice caverns that we were in for some reason...
I needed to say it somewhere. I don't think too much of it, but it was a very weird dream to have.

That is an odd dream. A lot of times when I dream that I am someone, I'm simultaneously outside them looking at scene unfolding. It's quite interesting being in two places at once.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
It was like that for a bit of the time, but when this scene actually came along, I was no longer 'outside' as well. It was very odd, since, like it is for you, it's usually never as if I'm looking through their eyes.
I also recall saying something about Hermione just before this occurred. Something about how I was glad she had said... something about something 'working out', I think. All I know is it had a direct influence, since as I said that the light in the cavern dimmed (I think I dimmed it) and then Harry started to lean in.
I blame staying up 'till 4:30 in the morning reading Half Blood Prince. :p

That is a good reason why you would have that dream. Things I do before bed often influence my dreams.
