Kalon, it's one of those things where if I'm crying, I don't want anyone around me. I'd rather be by myself. If people hug me and try to comfort me, it makes it harder for me to compose myself. However, I have a double standard because when someone is crying that I know, I always try to comfort them. XD
Ew... Mold. I hate that stuff. =(
Silvan, congrats on becoming a Global Mod! That's what your new, greenified name means, right?
Also, it could just be crud that's collecting in your tonsils. I get that even when I'm not sick, and I just clear it out and move along.
I complain that my back hurts. I've been picking up sticks for like... over an hour, and I didn't even get to finish because it's all rainy and I was tired and hurty. Lame-sauce... ._.

I'm really bad at talking on the phone. I'd rather speak in person.
There is this really awesome job that I applied to back in the Quad Cities where I'll be moving -- a job editing photos for a catalog. A lady called me about my application, and it almost sounded like she didn't even know what the job was about and was just an HR lady, since she didn't give my any info on what I would be doing or anything remotely about the job itself at all and just asked me typical interview questions, but apparently that wasn't even an interview, since she said she'll get back to me and let me know if they want to have an interview or if they're pursuing other candidates.
I just hate that she's judging whether or not they want to hire me off that, since those questions were all bogus, dumb interview questions and not at all representative of my abilities and skills. If she only asked to see my resume or examples of my work, I'd feel a little bit more confident, especially since I feel I'd be one of the best suited people for a job of that nature compared to others in the Quad Cities. I almost feel like she's going to forget my name and move on.

Re: The Complaints Thread >:(
Aww. Fate, that sucks. I know what you mean about speaking in person rather than on the phone. One reason for me is that I have trouble hearing people if I can't see their lips moving, so I'm constantly saying, "What?"
I'm sure it wasn't as bad as you thought. You should contact them again in a week if they don't contact you. That way, they'll see that you're really interested in the job, and it'll do more for your potentially getting it.

Ahh, I love Google Chrome as a browser, but now I'm forced to use Internet Explorer, since accessing FoG via Chrome is such a nightmare. Chrome apparently has issues rendering javascript, so it scrolls RIDICULOUSLY slow. It's like playing a laggy MMO on dial up. Bleh!
Re: The Complaints Thread >:(
Unless your connection is 56kps, you can't actually play an MMO on dial up. XD
But yeah... I get what you're saying, and it sounds awful. I just use Firefox. Works fine with FoG.

lol That's true. I would be crying even then if I were playing it on dial up. XD
Firefox is good too. Well, they all have good and bad things about them. Axiom seems to dislike Internet Explorer the most though haha.

I think I will never understand why everyone hates IE, I've always used it without difficulty, and I can never get a clear answer out of anyone when I ask why it sucks Perhaps it's just the simplicity of it, and no one wants to offend my simple minded brain? Lol.
I complain that I ate something disagreeable, and now I feel terrible. I think Theoden feels terrible too, for his mood has been awful from the moment he woke up. Poor dear, I don't think we are going to be eating Rice Bowl again anytime soon.

Ah, I turn off updates, so that doesn't even come into the picture for me. I've never noticed IE running any slower than firefox (when I used to have both), I even know that firefox runs much slower than IE on Silv's laptop. I wonder why it is different for different people?

I'm not sure. Firefox has always run faster with me, and I noticed the biggest difference when I was using Dial-Up, soooo I have no idea.

Me: Not to mention the fact of 'best' being subjective in the first place.
Friend: Yeah... but not really. If you take everything into consideration, like the time period and the fame of the band in general, he is the best... Idk. Led Zeppelin is the best band ever.. like, it's not really a matter of opinion, more just li...ke a statement of fact. Not saying you have to like them or anything, it's just kinda the way it is. I can understand why you may think that there are several other bass players as good as him. I'm sure a lot come close, but they just aren't the best.
Conclusion: I fucking hate when people are so narrow minded that they claim it is 'fact' that one artist is better than another.

Mel, my love and I agree that liking an artist is a matter of opinion, there are some artists who are clearly better at their craft. It's like comparing a fifth grader's doodle to works by Da Vinci. There are points at which one artist is clearly superior.
Take "Friday" by Rebecca Black for instance. It is clearly an inferior work when compared to Beethoven's works or as a modern twist, Adele's.

Well, yes, I do not disagree with that Kathryn. However, the statement of a fact that one musican, and one band, and using their level of fame as an example of how they are undisputedly the best is just wrong. No one artist can ever be 'the best', especially in music where there are so many styles to be played. While John Paul Jones is amazing, he technically has nothing on the speed and progressive skill of, say, John Myung. And to compare those two would be ridiculous anyway.

My complaint is that for the first time in my life, I got stung by a wasp that I wasn't even bothering! I closed a door outside and the stupid insect stabbed me in my back... literally. It hurts like no tomorrow and its all swollen and red. Stupid wasp... D:

I hate wasps. They're evil. I've never been stung by one, but yeah... I'm more afraid of them than of bees despite the fact that a bee has gotten me in my past. >.>;;
But I mean... Just look at wasps! Close-up bee pictures make them look all cute and fuzzy and fat, but wasps just look like vicious, horrible things! Plus, wasps are carnivores!

They just look evil. they look like something right out a horror movie/nightmare. Gah. Now I'm gonna be terrified of them for the rest of my life.

Re: The Complaints Thread >:(
Ugh, wasps are no fun. I've gotten stung a couple of times, and it hurts like crazy. Unfortunately, wasps don't die after they sting. Bee stingers have barbs, so they stay in place along with the venom sac after the bee uses it, which is why it kills them. Wasp stingers are barbless and straight, so they can sting multiple times.
Here I'm going to go biologist/naturalist on everyone. Unless the wasp is in your house or around pets of children, I wouldn't advise trying to actively seek it out to kill it. Wasp stings, like snake bites, usually occur when the person is actually trying to kill it and the animal is acting in self defense. Unless of course it's a naturally aggressive species, like a yellow jacket or water moccasin. Those will actually chase people down...
Hope you feel better, Ana!
I complain that my bathroom plumbing is running abysmally slowly and all the liquid plumbr-esque cleaners I look at in the store say, "Do not use in toilets." Well, how the heck am I supposed to un-stop it then? And I'm getting ready to leave on a boat tonight for a two-day research cruise, so it'll have to wait until I get back. Blah...

^ I wondered about that myself in the past, Silvan. It's strange you can't use that stuff for toilets.
I'm really, really in a stressful place in my life right now. I am completely broke, and as such, I am not sure when and how often I can visit the Quad Cities (where my parents live/where Axiom lives/where I'll be moving back to) each weekend anymore. I won't be moving back (if things all go according to plan) until mid August, so that would severely suck. My parents have decided to stop supporting me as much as they can, and that makes it all extremely difficult.
On top of worrying about money and how often I can see my boyfriend until August, it's incredibly stressful because he is living with his mom at the moment, and so we never really have any "us" time, and his mom has been getting on his nerves for quite some time too, so it can be difficult living there. I am going to have to move in there too for awhile, so that's not something that I'm exactly looking forward to and is in no way ideal.
It's just a really tough time in our lives, money-wise, and it's putting a lot of pressure and anxiety on us, and we're really feeling it. It's really depressing and makes me worry a lot. It's so hard even trying to find ways to eat and feed myself these days, so all I've been eating for the past few weeks are protein bars, since I can buy a pack of them for $6 or so and eat one a day, since they are filling. It's just all these little things that keep adding up and making me really distressed.

It's the same reason why some TV remotes have labels on them that say "Do not place in dish washer". At some time, someone had the bright idea to be "innovative" and use something for what it's not intended to be used for, and ended up either a) hurting themselves, b) hurting someone else, c) causing some freakish death, d) electrocuted someone or something, e) became morbidly obese because of it, or f) something else of a freakish incident happened causing them to sue someone for an outrageous amount because they can.Fate Foretold wrote:^ I wondered about that myself in the past, Silvan. Silvan, that sucks that you're having issues with your toilet. You could look up online things that may be able to help, or you can go with Axiom's advice.
Fate, I'm sorry it's such a stressful time for you. I'm sure once August rolls around, everything will be wonderful because you'll be with Tony and not so far away. Even if you have to live with his mom for a while, it'll be okay.
Axiom, bleh... When is money ever anyone's friend?

That is very true!!Kathryn Lacey wrote:Axiom, bleh... When is money ever anyone's friend?
What a terrible night.
I was working on brainstorming a bit for my Caligo role-play all day today, rereading IC posts and looking back over my own character sheet again to prepare myself further. I was really in the writing mood today. Now that I'm finally off work though and was planning on starting my reply, I just feel all jittery and uneasy.
At work tonight, there was a huge storm, and the skies went black. It looked terrible outside and was pouring. It apparently also was/is supposed to hail!? Well, the sirens went off right when we had customers and everything, and it freaked everyone out pretty good. Both my boss and I checked our phones for the weather, and both said there was a tornado warning and that it was passing right through the town we were in.
When I got off work not long after, I left a little early, and I figured I'd get back and be comfortable in my condo and could start writing. Not so much. The road I drive down to go home the whole way was blocked off. There were cops and lights flashing everywhere, and it was pouring down rain. I could hardly see. A jackass cop who was waving people by with his traffic light came up to my car and yelled in a testy and rude voice, "The road's blocked! I'm trying to wave you through, and you aren't moving, and I don't understand what the problem is!" I just rolled up my window and took off. The jerk was waving cars to drive in front of me (since I was stopped at a cross street), so I thought he was waving them by. How should I know what he's doing? Ughhh. That made me pretty upset, on top of panic already starting to take over, since now I was driving down the opposite way I was supposed to go, and I'm not familiar with this area whatsoever (since I grew up somewhere else), and I had no idea where I was going.
Long story short, I found my way down some back roads with the help of GPS and Axiom and had to avoid dozens upon dozens of cops all over the place, down almost every road it seemed, not to mention countless tree branches, leaves, and fully uprooted trees thrown across all the roads. Apparently a tornado touched down right outside my work and was reeking havoc down all these roads right outside while I was working, thus making it almost impossible to get anywhere.
Instead of getting home early, I got home a little later than normal. What a night.
Re: The Complaints Thread >:(
One horrible night followed by perhaps an even worse morning...
I've been a college grad for one year now, and even before graduating, I was upset because I didn't want to do anything with my art degree anymore, so all this time I thought my family paid a ton of money for me to go to a private, well-known school for no reason. Then I get a call back about a photo editing job working with my favorite program, Photoshop, and I am happy because that is something I not only do on a weekly basis, but something I enjoy doing and could also apply my degree towards. Well, apparently having a college degree and years of experience, professionally and personally, isn't enough.
The lady who contacted me and asked me only a few basic questions on the phone not even relating to the job at all just sent me a letter saying they were going to be considering other options at this time. They didn't even see me for an interview! They are making a huge mistake. I highly doubt anyone else in the Quad Cities area that applies is as qualified for that job as I am or will be as enthusiastic about it as me. My mom said the lady probably thought I was pretty young, since I have a young-sounding voice on the phone, but I said that's no reason to not even have the decency to see me for an interview. I have a fine arts degree, so clearly I'm not a child. I'm way more competent than I'm sure they think that I am.
Now I'm doomed to apply for more retail positions again, all of which I still have not heard back from, because apparently I am not qualified enough to work retail either. No one wants me for any job. It's as if they all think I'm incapable of doing anything. I've applied for hundreds of jobs now, and nothing is panning out. I am stressed, frustrated, and at the very end of my rope. I wish someone would just give me a chance. I can't survive off of minimum wage, and it's bullshit that I should have to after having gone and gotten a college education. What the hell point was that anyway!? I might as well saved $100,000 and used it for buying a house. I'd still be applying for the same jobs as now anyway, and I'd have a place to live to boot.

Re: The Complaints Thread >:(
Fate, that's just... wow. That's awful! I won't pretend to understand that particular frustration, but I've been in some pretty tough corners myself, where I often questioned if I was ever going to get anywhere doing what I was doing, or if anyone would want me or my talents. But I had to remind myself that everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.
So, Fate... what was the point?
Don't let those words alone settle in your mind and in your heart; for all they will do is turn your virtues into lead. Answer those words instead. Find that point. There was definitely a reason to put forth the effort and strength, sweat and hardship you did, because a bend in the road is not the end of the road... unless you fail to make the turn, and you fail to answer that question. What the hell point was that anyway!?
So, Fate... what was the point?

Fate, I'm so sorry that's happened to you - both the tornado issues and the job ones. I'm sure everything will work out eventually, but it is a tough economy, and the Quad Cities are big. It seems like the bigger a place is, the harder it is to acquire a job. =\

Thanks, guys. *hugs* I appreciate your words, and I really do hope my chances of finding at least a semi-decent job improve. I've been considering my degree for quite some time and am trying to figure out what to do with it. It seems as if it is not artsy enough or not aimed in the right direction for the art-related jobs I would desire (as my degree focused too much on 3D design) or it is too artsy for ordinary jobs to consider me. It's really irritating. I just have to keep trying and hope I can figure something out I guess.
Re: The Complaints Thread >:(
I know it's not much to complain about, but damn it, I'm sick of not complaining about it.
I've been working at a place called the Star of Greece for about 8 months now. I got along well with everyone who worked there, and the boss liked me well enough. Even when shifts slowed down (We get almost no activity in the Winter months) everyone who worked was getting at least the shifts required for them to continue living (For example, since I live with my parents, I was able to get one 4 hour shift a week). It wasn't much, but it was enough to get people by.
Now, my boss sold the place and some new people took the restaurant over. Everyone was fine with it and hell, we all got to keep our jobs too. People thought it might be a good change because the new owners have 3 other successful restaurants and so hey, they have a good rep. That's when things started to go wrong.
Right off the bat, two experienced workers are taken off the roster sheet, so they won't get any shifts at all, effectively being forced to quit. Two of the workers that have been working at the Star for 2 months are given six 7 hour shifts a week, and my sister (the floor manager before the place changed hands) is bumped down from four 8 hour shifts to two shifts equalling 7 hours in total a week. THEN the new boss decides to give girls from the Victory Hotel (one of the other restaurants owned) extra shifts at the Star.
That was the main floor anyhow. I work in the Kiosk, selling fast food, etc. Only four of us work in the Kiosk, and on busy days, you need 2 people in there at all times. In the Winter though, you can operate with 1 person in there. Normally, since the Kiosk is only open 5 days, we'd each get at least one day to work for a few hours, and it was spread around evenly as possible. New boss decides to give ALL the shifts in the Kiosk to ONE girl. Every now and then Jeff (a guy I work with) gets a few hours on the Sunday.
I'm not receiving ANY hours what so ever, and I serve customers better than Jeff does (We were all trained in different sections of the Kiosk, Jeff was cooking, I was Serving and Coffee's). It just pisses me off that not only am I getting nothing, but my sister has the most experience on the floor, and she's getting SHIT handed to her! The two girls that the new boss is giving so many shifts to? MY SISTER FUCKING TRAINED THEM.
Anyway, I just needed to vent a little. >_>
