Mythology's Finest OOC[Still Accepting!]
The Greek Gods are a fascinating brood. One of the only sets of deities that are not infallible, but merely powerful creators who must be pleased like normal people. They have wants and needs like man, but lack the ability to die by anything other than the hand of another god of greater power, or greater wit. They cheat, lie, steal, commit adultery, murder, and even feel guilt. They have families both on Olympus and Earth which they care for and mother or father. But they also commit the same wrongs to their offspring as the people of this earth.
If not appeased, they spite. They are children throwing tantrums at all times. It would almost seem they are human, if not for their continuous displays throughout generations. Their lives are endless occurrences by which humans can only relate.
The Gods have lives as we do. Families, as we do. Friends, as we do. Mistakes, as we do. How can we not relate their tales? Simple. We are them. And as we are, they grow jealous. Their following has died, except for the few that still fear the wrath that once claimed lives, destroyed a nation, and birthed their world. Now, they seek their royal place, at the place where the people's foreheads touch the ground.[/color]
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The Gods now wish to claim their rights as head of our world, and are willing to do so by any means necessary. However, not all of them wish to force us to bow. Some claim the peace and quiet as a sanctuary. They need not worry over the prayers and smiting of the simple people. They need only take pleasure in their immortality. What shall be the outcome of the oncoming power of the Gods?

~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The Primordial Deities:
- Spoiler:
- Aether: He is the personification of the upper sky, space, and heaven, and is the elemental god of the "Bright, Glowing, Upper Air." He is the pure upper air that the gods breathe, as opposed to the normal air mortals breathe.
Ananke: She is the personification of destiny, necessity and fate. She marks the beginning of the cosmos, along with Chronos. She was seen as the most powerful dictator of all fate and circumstance which meant that the other Gods had to give her respect and pay homage as well as the mortals. She was also the mother of the Moirae, the three fates who were fathered by Zeus.Erebos: The God of darkness and shadow. His name is used interchangeably with Tartarus and Hades since Erebus is often thought of as part of the underworld. Erebus married his sister Nyx (goddess of the night) and their children included Aether, Hemera, Nemesis, and Charon.
[u]Gaia[/u]: Goddess personifying the Earth, the Greek version of "Mother Nature". From the testicles of Uranus in the sea came forth Aphrodite. After Uranus's castration, Gaia gave birth to Echidna and Typhon by Tartarus. By Pontus, Gaia birthed the sea-deities Nereus, Thaumas, Phorcys, Ceto, and Eurybia. Aergia, a goddess of sloth and laziness, is the daughter of Aether and Gaia.
Hemera: She is the goddess of the daytime and the daughter of Erebos and Nyx. She was the female counterpart of her brother and consort, Aether.
Chronos: He is the personification of time. He and his consort, serpentine Ananke, circled the primal world-egg in their coils and split it apart to form the ordered universe of earth, sea and sky. He is not to be confused with the Titan Cronus.Nyx: Goddess of the night. A shadowy figure, Nyx stood at or near the beginning of creation, and was the mother of personified gods such as Hypnos (sleep) and Thánatos (death).
Uranus: Father Sky, is personified as the son and husband of Gaia, Mother Earth.
Phanes: Deity of procreation and the generation of new life.
Pontos: Personification of the Sea. Pontos was the son of Gaia, the Earth. With Gaia, he was the father of Nereus (the Old Man of the Sea), of Thaumas (the awe-striking "wonder" of the Sea, embodiment of the sea's dangerous aspects), of Phorcys and his sister-consort Ceto, and of the "Strong Goddess" Eurybia.

The Lesser Gods:
Although important enough for their own category and recognition, they were not strong enough figures for such appraisal given to the likes of The Olympian Gods.
- Spoiler:
Eros: The primordial god of sexual love and beauty. He was also worshiped as a fertility deity. He is the son of Aphrodite and Ares and now typically known by "Cupid".
Hebe: Servant Goddess to the Gods, it was her duty to supply their wine and ambrosia. She is the daughter of Zeus and Hera, and wife to Hercules.

God(dess): Artemis
Personality: A bit of a child at heart, Artemis finds simple joys in the world around her. Since the founding of the ‘New World’, she’s spent most of her time in the forests of California. It is because of her the state has had so much influence in the Women’s movement, and the environmental movement. She spends her time in the forests along the California coast with her usual hoard of nymphs, helping run an All Girl’s camp. She enjoys the closeness she can have to the small girls while being able to bask in her natural surroundings.
Appearance: Being an immortal and a perpetual youth, she retains the appearance of a young adult, about the age of nineteen to a mortal. Her hair is a shaggy cut, to about two inches below her ear. Naturally it’s a silvery-white color, but for blending purposes, she keeps it a light blond. Her eyes naturally match her hair color, but again, for appearances, she changes it to a more normal color, a light icy blue, to blend in. She stands at the average women’s height of 5’5”, to accentuate her pride in her fellow women. She’s athletically framed, lean and toned. Her skin is slightly tanned Caucasian influenced and her face a delicate heart-shape frame. In her human setting, she’ll typically wear pairs of cargo shorts and simple t-shirts, complimented with a pair of brown hiking boots; anything in comfort. However, in her most comfortable setting of the forests along Mt. Olympus’s slope, she can be found in her white or silver, thigh-length chiton.
Current status among their fellow Gods: As typical for her, she partially resents all the males, mostly for the escapades with other women. The only ones she doesn’t avoid on contact are her brother, Apollo, Hephaestus, for her admiration of his dedication to Aphrodite, and Hermes, for sheer comedy. She admires her fellow chaste goddesses, Athena and Hestia, for their greater years and admirable powers. She has slight dislike for Hera and Aphrodite: Hera for overbearing jealousy and vengeance, and Aphrodite for her lustful conquests. However, she understands both women, and their reasons.
Extra Information: Although she keeps many more on the mountain, she always has with her a nymph, and a hound. She’s named the hound Callimachus, after a Greek poet who graced his work with lines of her, calling him Cal for short. The nymph is consistently silent, going on as a mute, and trailing behind her everywhere. Her name is Tallimarus, or Tally. Artemis will play it as if Tally is her life-partner in some situations, or simply her younger sister, depending what fits the part more easily.

God(dess): Erebos
Personality: He is a master planner who hides his genius in madness. Erebos makes himself seem unpredictable, using constant and shifting voices and tones, preying on fear and confusion like darkness does. To a fortified and prepared mind, he is simply mad, but to a normal one he can make the individual feel isolated like a child trapped in a forest on a moonless night. His genius, though, reflects the planned nature of shadows and darkness bending over the world with the coming of night.
Appearance: His skin is grey and lined with wrinkly cracks. He’s long, narrow, and constantly wears a black hooded cloak over himself, kept tight, with the hood drawn so his face is hid in shadows. Blue lips, a long narrowed nose, and thin black hair. Sallow face, bags under his eyes, and a twisted grin. Yellow teeth.
Current status among their fellow Gods: Aloof to most, including his children. Nyx keeps him in line so his amusement in meddling with mortals does not go too far and treats him more like a mother than lover. He becomes nervous around the higher gods, especially when he is under scrutiny.
Extra Information: When toying with mortals, no matter their height, he’s only comfortable looming three feet above them. Beside higher gods, he shrinks.

God(dess): Nyx
Personality: Nyx is a bit egocentric. She cares very much for her looks, since the night should be beautiful after all. She looks for a shallow crowd, that can appreciate her fine self-grooming, and won't look further into 'personality', really. However, she does have a fondness for a few select, to whom she shows a caring quality, and doesn't hide it. It is around these people she can be truly genuine.
Appearance: (To be drawn)
Current status among their fellow Gods: Being a realm, primordial Goddess, many have respect for her and her power, however she has sank below most of their favors for her misconduct around mortals, being amongst them as much as she is. She has a fondness, however, for the moon goddess, bring a heavenly beauty upon her gifts, and for the dark god, Erebos, who she has to keep a personal eye on as often as possible. Most others can't appreciate her beauty and grace, as she likes to think, and therefore she doesn't acknowledge them.

Username: Bird of Hermes
God(dess): Hermes
Personality: Hermes would find it hard to keep serious at all if it wasn't for the demands of the other gods. His tricks and antics are literally without end - in the thousands of years the god has been alive, he has never been at a loss for mayhem. Hermes has mastered the art of illusion and can transform into nearly anything. He barely uses the same form twice to the other gods' continued annoyance. Hermes's wit and cunning are without match, even if he has developed a propensity to let this mouth run wild.
Appearance:
Current status among their fellow Gods: Hermes can find a way to pester just about anyone, even the most powerful of the gods. He is of most annoyance to Zeus who can not find nearly enough letters these days to keep Hermes busy and out of his way. Hades thinks that Hermes slacks off in his duty of ferrying the souls of the dead to the underworld; Hermes just thinks he is being innovative in his methods.
Extra Information: God of travel, messengers, trade, thievery, cunning wiles, language, writing, diplomacy, athletics, and animal husbandry. He is the messenger of the gods, a psycho-pomp who leads the souls of the dead into Hades' realm, and the son of Zeus and Maia. His symbols include the herald's wand or caduceus, winged sandals, and a traveler's cap.
User: Harper
God(dess): Apollo
Personality: Apollo is, well, a character. He enjoys a party and knows how to throw one with some heavy music. He likes to be in the a center of attention with both mortals and gods. So he sticks with popular forms of music and makes forms of music popular, drifting and changing forms to become part of younger bands so he can appeal to the youths he watches over (the oldest he's allowed himself to be in the past century is 26). These bands are usually based in Greece and more specifically in his old house of worship Delphi. Currently he is part of a Laïká pop group called The Medicinals
Appearance: Apollo keeps his hair in a long light brown braid. His eyes are blue and have a cockiness in them to make women swoon. He stands at 5'11" and has a medium build. He wears a loose overshirt, and skinny jeans to give the ladies (and maybe some of the better looking boys) a good view.
Current status among their fellow Gods: Apollo still keeps in touch with his good friend Hermes, but in a modern setting he's too entrenched in his current life to keep up or heed any of the others unless he has to.
Extra Information: Apollo recently has been trying to earn some power back. Lately, his songwriting has been used to try and persuade people back into Greek mythology's fold. He's realized the party is ending, and that he wants to mean something again. To be feared and literally worshipped again.
User: SpaceWheeler2.0
God: Ares; God of Bloodlust, War, Civil (Dis)Order, and Manly Courage
Personality: His titles tell all. Ares desires to cause death, to feel death. He does not heed the guidance or warnings of his fellow Gods. He is a ticking time-bomb, just ready to explode into bloody fury at any moment. The God of Bloodlust is unpredictable at best. In relations with any of his fellow Gods/Goddesses, he is often manipulative and lacks respect. About the only extent to which he can withhold his lust for carnage is when he knows it will serve his greater purposes.
Appearance: Ares takes the form of a ruthless businessman. He is imposing at a height of 6’6” (1.97 meters) and very well built, which should be obvious as a God of War. His hair is well-kept and fairly short, with a solid black color. Eyes are a deep, reddish-brown, particularly odd to a mortal. He looks to be no older than maybe 30 years of age, and facial hair is non-existent at any given time. When in the guise of his business, Ares wears a solid black suit with a red undershirt and black tie. However, when he is in the depths of his syndicate’s headquarters, he dawns his classical Greek armor and helm as a symbol to his servants, as if they could ever forget or doubt who it is that they serve.
Current status among their fellow Gods: Hated by most… He causes death and mayhem without a care for the whims of his fellows, and they can’t easily keep him from his desires.
Father: Zeus (who despises him)
Mother: Hera (despises him as well)
Brother: Hephaestus (holds an unending grudge for an affair with Aphrodite)
Sisters: Enyo (follows him, even to battle) and Hebe
Children: Phobos and Deimos (sons who follow him to battle), and Eros… plus many more.
Extra Information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ares
Ares most often resides in Sofia City, Bulgaria, which is the same city that existed as the capital of the Thracian empire in ancient times. The Thracians were his most devoted followers, being a vicious, warring society, and Ares often returns to this city in nostalgia. Although, it should be mentioned that “nostalgia” for the God of Slaughter is a remembrance of the violent battles his followers had sought in his name.
In this modern era, Ares is the leader of a vast crime syndicate that has spread through Eastern Europe, parts of Austria, Italy, and France, and even across the Atlantic Ocean into the United States. In his guise, although actually through servants, Ares has a hand in multiple business ventures to finance his organization. Only the most trusted of his organization know that they serve a God, except for a particular branch that handles the “dirty work.” This branch is filled entirely of beautiful but dangerous women. They are the growing reemergence of the Amazon, a society of female warriors that hailed Ares as their guardian deity.
User:AyaMacArthur
Goddess: Aphrodite
Personality: Due to her good looks and privileges, Aphrodite is somewhat, a snob. Well, there e is no “somewhat” about it. She knows what she wants, and knows how to get it. If she doesn’t, then she will go to any means to achieve what it is that she desires. Zeus forbid that she doesn’t receive what she wants, or there will be Hell to pay.
Appearance:
Current status among their fellow Gods: Despite her multiple acts of adultery, she is still in good favor of the other Gods.
Father: Uranus
Mother: She has no mother.
Brother: She has no direct siblings, because of the nature of her birth.
Sisters: She has no direct siblings, because of the nature of her birth.
Children: Eros
Extra Information: Aphrodite has many children, some estimate as many as 25. However, like her other God companions, she doesn’t really share a great relationship with any of her children, other than Eros.
User: AyaMacArthur
Goddess: Gaia
Personality: Gaia is a very motherly woman. Known to give up the clothes on her back, she is very kind and giving. Unlike her children, and her grandchildren, Gaia came from a time where love and nature were all that mattered.
Appearance:
Current status among their fellow Gods: She is very much liked among the gods.
Father: Chaos
Mother: She has no mother.
Brothers: Erebus, Tartarus, and Eros
Sisters: Nyx
Children: Uranus, Pontus, The Ourea and Phoebe, Coeus, Kronos, Rhea, Oceanus, Tethys, Hyperion, Theia, Themis, Iapetus, Crius and Mnemosyne, The Hundred-handed ones and The Cyclopes
Extra Information: She is the Goddess of the Earth, after all; therefore, she is a nature activist in this lifetime.
User: GreyBeard
God: Hades
Personality: He despises the realm he was gifted with. Zeus was granted air, Poseidon sea. Hades was given the underworld, where souls go to be tested. Dealing with lost souls left him with a dark sense of humor, which has only intensified over time.
Appearance: Being underground has left his skin a pasty white hue, which contrasts horribly with his pale blue eyes. In the mortal realm he appears youthful, mid thirties, and well dressed. His shoulder length silver hair is invariably tied in a ponytail, and he is clean shaven.
Current status among their fellow Gods: Exile? They don't exactly welcome him with 'open arms'. In fact, they avoid physical contact as much as they can.
Father: Cronus
Mother: Rhea
Brothers: Zeus, Poseidon
Sisters: Demeter, Hestia, Hera
Wife: Persephone
Dog: Cerberus
Extra Information: Hades lives and works in the 'River Styx', a somewhat popular night club located in good old Sunny California. It's not unusual to see him poisoning himself at the club he owns, or to see him feeding strange chunks of meat to the dog he keeps in his office.
Username: Dax
God(dess): Zeus, 'King' of gods
Personality: He is arrogant, obnoxious and a bully. He has a good side, he just has a hard time showing it.
Appearance:
Current status among their fellow Gods: Zeus is the obnoxious, arrogant and bully ‘King’ of the Gods. A king lacking loyal and subjects that aren’t downright hostile to him.
Zeus is trying to change, however. And that is indeed possible. Because under all of that negative personality and habits, there is just an old king that does in fact love his kingdom and those that inhabit it and wants to protect and love them.
In fact, Zeus is desperately trying to change his image towards his fellow gods and is trying to find all of them so he may do just that. He is currently Professor of Greek mythology at UCLA.

User: Bird of Hermes
God(dess): Iris
Personality: Iris is very serious and she has taken the loss of her former job as the messenger of Hera to heart. She is searching for a new meaning to her life. She has a strange relationship with Hermes, her fellow messenger.
Appearance:
Current status among their fellow Gods: Isis has not spoken to the other gods in years. Her soul searching has taken her to all parts of the globe. She has a friendly rivalry with Hermes. She still keeps in contact with her sisters, the harpies.
Extra Information: Goddess of rainbows, messengers, clouds, wind and sea. She is the messenger of the gods, a filler of rain clouds, and the daughter of Thaumas and Electra. Her symbols include the herald's wand or kerykeion, wings and the rainbow. Her sisters are the harpies.
User: AyaMacArthur
God(dess): Poseidon
Personality: Like his brothers, Poseidon is very cocky and shallow. In this new era, he gets to live off his ego by being a male model. Don't let his good looks fool you. He has a temper that rivals that of Zeus and a lust for payback that rivals that of Hades.
Appearance:
Current status among their fellow Gods: Poseidon is feared, but not much liked among the gods of Olympus. Since they split to lead separate lives among the humans, he hasn't spoken much to any of his kin.
Extra Information: He works for Aphrodite's fashion magazine.
User: Dax
God(dess):Chronos (a.k.a father Time)
Appearance: takes on many different appearances, but he does not care to fit in. he still dresses as he always has since the dawn of time… with some minor tweaks taken from across the ages
Current status among their fellow Gods: For the rare times the other gods have met him, they know chronos to be a calm, polite thinker and very calculated in his acts and words. After all, he has all of the time in the world. Therefore, the others gods that have met him have only the slightest respect for him, just as one would have the basic respect for a stranger. However, since he is the personification of time, he enjoys some sympathy. What else can they have for someone who impersonates and exuberates Time itself.
Extra Information: Chronos is everywhere and nowhere at the same time. He wanders the world, doing as he pleases and remotely overseas and watches the other gods and goddesses for fun and for the remote possibility if he needed to protect one from another.
User: Harper
God: Hephaestus
Personality: Hephaestus was one of the meeker gods, but over the years as technology came to dominate the lives of man, Hephaestus gained a fatter and fatter head. Since his aspect has flourished above all else through the centuries, he now privately believes him better than any of the other gods, but knows better than to share those beliefs. He is somewhat clever and has gained some sincere confidence, but the other gods can still easily cow him.
Appearance: Hephaestus’ mortal form involves him wearing a pinstripe, blue business suit and matching tie. His classical form he holds a smith’s hammer and wears a heavy leather apron over classical Greek clothing. In both forms Hephaestus stands at six eight, with burly arms and chest. He keeps a gray beard and gray hair on the sides of his head. The top is bald. His eyes are brown. His nose is large, heavy, and red—it, like the rest of his face, is pockmarked with acne scars. On his chin he has two moles, but these are covered by his beard. He carries a big, oak cane with him in his mortal form to hide his limp and explains it as the scars of polio. His left ear has a small brass earring hanging from it. His skin is a pale white.
Current status among their fellow Gods: He only keeps in touch with the other gods when they commission him to make for them a weapon. Otherwise, he resents them. For numerous reasons dating back to when he first caught Aphrodite and Ares sharing a bed. Due to his new status in the world, he enjoys the power and respect he finally holds.
Extra Information: Hephaestus worked as many different scholars and scientists over the years. He invented the steam engine, the telegraph, radio, internet, and several other things of modern technology under the guise of famous inventors. Now he runs his own corporate research firm, trying to develop ways to mass produce cheap, green energy.

Rules:
- You get a month of silence before your character is removed and up for grabs. However that does not require a full post, but simply a notification that you are still willing to be apart of the roleplay, but have just had personal issues that needed to be dealt with first. Everyone has those. I'll be keeping any and all character sheets on file, so if you are in the circumstances of having your profile removed, if you ask to rejoin and the character is not retaken it'll be as easy as a copy and paste.
If you have missed PAGES of posting, I understand you may miss something in reading, I simply ask you skim it, ask any questions you have about it, and we'll all fill you in on the rest, so as no one has to wait for anyone to post.
It is up to you to start interactions, but, for safety, I'd like you to mention your posting here, in the OOC, so as there's no collision posts. I think everyone can relate to how annoying that is.
If you catch anything in someone's post that does not correlate to mythology, please feel free to ask why, as they may not realize the mistake. After all, there can be many different versions to a single myth. If it gets too confrontational, however, I simply ask you take it to the PMs.
Questions are requested and welcomed at all times. Dabbling into mythology is always interesting, in any matter.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Godly Limits:
Gods cannot bring mortals back from the dead, even lovers.
Gods can be killed, but only very complicatedly, by a much stronger God. (Such as the brood of two powerful gods killed one of it's parents)
Gods cannot 'do it all' entirely. Those who attempt at creating or doing something out of their jurisdiction tend to do it badly. (Such as Poseidon creating animals. The horse was a mistake.)
Gods do grief, morn, and regret their actions. In feeling, they are just like mortals. Even Hades who morns for his consort when she must return to her mother.
Gods cannot chose the consequences for their actions, but simply try and change them as they work by putting other things in the way, in which they can still make even more comical/horrid mistakes.

I know I said that the roleplay won't be up until tonight, but I'd still like some discussion in here. I'm sorry if I made that unclear. How excited are you?!

An Apology To Those Possibly Offended
I just posted my Erebos and Apollo introduction and strove to sum up their character with the postings. Erebos, in particular is a bigot and while some might find his introduction amusing others might find it offensive. I tried to make his character reflect the nature of shadows, the madness, the fear, the darkness that can't be peered into. He's a bully to all mortals who he can shroud in shadow, but any god above him will reveal him as a coward, their might like holding a light up to shadow, it trembles and flees.
As for Apollo he should be fine. I just wanted to note for Bird of Hermes (if you are reading this) that Hermes and Apollo shared something akin to a bromance in many Greek mythologies, so I think we should capitalize on that when we can.
Once again, sorry about Erebos, and to any moderator, if its too much let me know and I'll tone it down a few notches.

I will wait to be last or before last to reply (or atleast after all of Zeus's children have posted) so I can react to all posts accordingly.
If anyone is interested, Zeus is currently a history professor in UCLA, just waiting to be visited. xD (He switches university every couple decennies)

I like that, it's really cool. Is there a history he specializes in (like um... Greek), or is just broad world history?

He obviously specializes in Greek history.
He also gives general history classes, too.

That sounds like it would be interesting to do! Also, I may not get a post in for awhile. Final exams are coming up and the end of the semester is severely limiting my writing time.

I think about everyone has something going on this week, which is fine. I know I have AP testing. As long as this isn't forgotten entirely, I don't mind the wait.

I got a post up! Quite a few days later than I thought, but better late than never. Hopefully it's good enough to start with, but I was having issues with my creativity tonight.

Re: Mythology's Finest OOC[Still Accepting!]
It's still excellent :3
One person I'm hoping will be signed up for soon is Aphrodite. Her philandering would surely bring some... excitement, to the the story.
SpaceWheeler, since you are playing Ares, you have permission to also play around with Eris, considering she is not on the listen of Gods, if you so please. She and Ares are quiet close, unless you know of anyone who would care to use her, or just prefer not. It's your choice.
Anyone else considering taking a 2nd, maybe even 3rd character, is recommended. This is the type of story where more people is a bit exciting.

All right, I'll see about weaving Eris into my part of the story. Now, I'm tending to look at Eris and Enyo being the same Goddess , as they are described similarly in many sources from what I can tell. What does your book say about them, YenWen? It might help me understand the "character" a little more.

Re: Mythology's Finest OOC[Still Accepting!]
Enyo is more a counterpart in war, like a female mini-Ares. Eris is a the Goddess of discord. She enjoys riding along with Ares, not for war itself, but the chaos it brings. She also gets her satisfaction from other forms of chaos, such as spite, jealousy, and feuding. Enyo literally means "warlike" and Eris means "strife", if that helps :3
Edit: Enyo is also the daughter of Zeus and Hera, while Eris is the daughter of Nyx. Enyo could almost literally be seen as a female Ares. Eris just seems like his best female friend ever.

Re: Mythology's Finest OOC[Still Accepting!]
I don't know where everyone went... Few have commented on the OOC thread, so perhaps they didn't pay attention to the opened OOC from the interest thread? This has so much potential, it can't die!
We don't have a Hades to accept this thread into the underworld anyways, so no dying!

Re: Mythology's Finest OOC[Still Accepting!]
So, I've decided to make another little rule. If you don't give any notification of your posting, or that you're still here and waiting by the end of the month (June 30th) then your profile will be removed and the character made available for someone else. However, this does not mean you can't still get the character back (if it hasn't been retaken) and be a part of the roleplay again. I understand if there's been some sort of communication problem and you've been gone for that period of time. However, I think a month is a good amount of time to notify us of any problems with posting. This is just a way to make it easier for everyone and not having to wait nearly as long. Please understand this is for everyone's benefit. Thank you :3
