Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Finished Ahab's Wife, such a beautiful book. Took me quite a while to read it. I've moved on from Fantasy to Literature/Fiction, prefering historical fiction. Historical fiction, to me, is written by a modern author referring to a historical event/events. While I appreciate books written during their own time, the language is difficult for me and I just love the thought of authors who research a time and space seperate from their own and make a great story out of it.
Have five more books to complete, hopefully I can do so by january 25th!

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
xraineyesx, I'd appreciate it if you just update the list you originally made rather than posting a new one every time you have an update. That's part of why I have all of the lists linked in the first post of this thread. It makes it way too difficult for me to update said progress into the first post otherwise. It's also cluttery even behind a spoiler cut.
To everyone else who's participating, congratulations on your successes with your reading. I'm glad that some people are really getting into this. Some of you are already so close to your quotas, but others who aren't shouldn't feel left behind. There's always a chance to either renew your progress sheets for a new date or to cut down the number. Besides, this is just for fun anyway, a personal challenge for all of us. =3

Sorry Kathryn. I forgot you had them linked... It's been too long. I don't know why I even did that. Wasn't thinking. I will in the future update the original list.

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Of course, dear. ^^ It makes total sense for me to update it that way. I just wasn't thinking.
Question: I was wondering what everyone's favorite book of their challenge was thus far. So how about it? I think mine is "The Book Thief" for now (I might read something better).

I haven't finished it yet, I just started reading in it a few days ago, but it's already my favourite from the list thus far: The Passage by Justin Cronin.

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
I can't choose. ^x_x^ Even though I read more than enough shitty books for this challenge, I also read several really great ones, and I have a habit of reading things from all different genres, so that makes it even harder to compare. ^;_;^

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Kathryn, I agree slightly with you. It's so hard to choose a favorite anything for me. It's easier to ask me what I DON'T like haha. I'll read anything and everything I can get my hands on...
Does anyone else feel like they aren't going to read anything this month because of NaNo?

I just can't find the time for it with school and friends and other obligations that I have devoted my time too when you throw in sleeping, eating, and breathing, haha.

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Well, if it was a book that doesn't really appeal to me anyway, I guess NaNo (or anything else for that matter) would keep me from reading, yeah. But The Passage is REALLY great. I love reading in it. But I also have to admit that I'm just not good NaNo material. I just can't write that much.

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
I've been trying to read The Pillars of the Earth while doing NaNoWriMo, but I admit that its going very very slowly, and I doubt I finish it before NaNoWriMo is over.
Can't pick a favorite, though I really liked the last book I read, Ahab's Wife. Of course, the last book I've read is always the freshest on my mind, haha.

I am making progress in Memoirs of the Geisha, and it's really good. I, like the rest of you, cannot actually pick a favorite.
NaNo is kicking my ass though. I'm behind - again. And that's what I get for spending my evening reading lol.

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Just finished my sixth book: The Passage by Justin Cronin. It's AWESOME!!! I absolutely can't wait for part 2 and 3, but it will be some time before it will be published, considering they're not even written yet and The Passage is a novel from either last or this year (at any rate, it got translated into Dutch this year, so I'll have to wait for quite some time anyway).

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
I hate waiting for books! Ugh. But then again, they're usually worth the wait.
I am still in progress on Memoirs of a Geisha, but I'm close to the end. I've read about 400 pages of it thus far. And I didn't think I'd have to time to read at all with everything that's been going on. Guess that goes to show me, huh?

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Congratulations on all of your progress, everyone!
I'm actually almost done with this challenge. I'm on my final book, and I'm over halfway through that. It's so exciting! I don't think I'll start the challenge over once I'm done, but I will try to remember to keep updating the first post with everyone's progress. =3

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Wow, Kathryn! Congratulations! I'm not anywhere near done, unfortunately. But I still have almost seven months to finish mine. How long has it taken you?
Do we have an applause smilie? I think we do... Hm...
Ah! Found it, I think. Or something resembling applause lol.

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Shekinah, I agree. ^^_^^
Raine, it took me almost the entire year. I started on January 9th, 2010. I didn't want to rush through the books I was reading, so I tried to read about one book a week. However, there were a few times when I lagged on my weekly quota, but that's okay. =3
Thanks. =3

Unfortunately? I'm happy about that! Means I still got tons of books to read. I HATE it when a book ends. Well, unless I didn't like the book But I really didn't like it when I finished The Passage, or Memoirs of a Geisha for that matter I'm happy I'm not anywhere near done yet

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
I'm definitely lagging right now, but I have lots of time.
I think it's unfortunate that I'm behind, not unfortunate that I'm still reading. I would be reading with or without this challenge.

I think that being behind is such a big deal. There were points when I was like... four books behind, but I always managed to catch back up. =3

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
I don't mind being behind. I will have more time to read soon, and I probably will. I've always read, I always will. It's kind of a crucial part to what I want to spend the rest of my life doing.

Finished my twenty first book. I don't know if I will finish four books before january 25th, but it is very possible. I just have to find four books to read...

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Ha, thanks. The problem is affording new books, or forcing myself to read old ones. Or...the library :/
Something about holding a book that isn't and will never be mine truly deters me from reading it. New books = my bad habit...

If you go on Amazon or to a used book store ((they wouldn't be new, but you could own them, and some are in great condition)), you could probably find some gems at a really cheap price!

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
That is true. Online I'd have to pay shipping, so I'll have to look for a used book store in town. I live in a very illiterate city...books are not prized by many here. Still, there should be one or two used bookstores left standing.
