Ouch... That really sucks. I've had that happen to me in the past. It's the worst. You could always start another book until then? =\

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Is it too late to jump in on this? 8D I kinda tl;dr'ed most of the first post. ^^; This is definitely one of my new year's resolutions -- I made it to about 16 books last year, but I'm further along this year on my list than I was this time last year, so ....

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
It's never too late. Your year starts whenever you want. You also don't have to read fifty books for your year. You can read anywhere from twelve to an infinite amount. hahah

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Haha Loki, you're cheap!
I read through the whole Dresden series, too, and the Ender Saga, Discworld and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in the past year, but the counter starts now, I guess.
I suggest http://bookcrossing.com/ for everyone here, might be a chance to get your hands on some books you wouldn't have thought about.
So I start as of this point, February 23rd, in no particular order:
1. Joe Abercrombie, The Blade Itself, 530 pages
2. Mat Buckland, Programming Game AI by Example, 474 pages
3. Elfer Coin, Artemis Fowl
4. Kevin Mitnick, The Art of Deception, 335 pages
5. Kevin Mitnick, The Art of Intrusion, 291 pages
6. Chuck Palahniuk, Survivor
7. Chuck Palahniuk, Invisible Monsters
8. Chuck Palahniuk, Hunted
9. Chris Wooding, The Fade
10. Steven Erikson, (The Malazan Book of the Fallen, Vol. 1) Gardens of the Moon

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Alright, so I'm jumping on this bandwagon a bit late, but I think it'll be fun to have encouragement from other people trying to read 50 books in a year too. My list isn't 50 books long right now, because it's the leftovers from last year's attempt at this, but I'm adding books to it as I come across new ones I wanna read. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to throw them at me.

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
You're not late! Someone could join this in July or in December, and they would still be right on time.
The little benchmarks really aren't all that important to anyone other than the person who's doing it. The only one to which I pay attention is the number of books read. It's easier if a user keeps that one in their list so I don't have to count every strike that's been made.

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
I just updated mine you guys! I went and bought some spiffy new books today all of which I listed! I'm most looking forward to 'The Looking Glass Wars' series I picked up which is another rendition of 'Alice in Wonderland'! The covers look so damn cool! XD
Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
I may just join this challenge, if it gives me an excuse to use this computer for something important like, I'unno, schoolwork >_>.
I'll have a list up soon. Expect a journey through obscure science fiction novels and other topics the likes of which none have ever seen before.

Cypher, I also think that sounds cool. Maybe you'll be surprised, and some people will recognize some of those books you list?

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
I've finally started reading again, and I finished the book in two days! So that is two books down for me. Still plunging through those textbooks, but I'm almost done with them. I have some catch-up reading to do.

I finished my second book last night.
^_^
Slow going considering I should be completing one book per week, but I'm definitely reading more often due to this challenge.

I'm glad you're reading again, Silvone!
Psychotic, the challenge is just something fun to attempt. It doesn't really matter if people really complete it. It's just gives a purpose toward reading more often. I really wanted to read more, and I thought others here would like to do the same. I'm glad that it's actually working. ^^_^^

Finally finished the my fourth book, and the Forgotten Realms: Haunted Lands trilogy! To any Forgotten Realms fans, you should definitely pick up this series. It was certainly well worth the read.

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
I wanted to wait until I was starting a new book to begin this challenge...and what better way to kick it off than with the first book in the second trilogy of Kushiel's Legacy? ^^ I don't think I'll actually be completing this challenge, but...I suppose we'll see! With the seemingly endless journey of my undergraduate education coming to its conclusion in two days, I should have more time to read for leisure. Perhaps I can finish my fifty books after all! At the very least, I'll be reading as much as I can throughout the year, to keep both my mind sharp and my inspiration flowing.

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!
Just updated mine. I didn't realize I have started so many books and not finished them. I blame college for only making me read parts when I want to read the whole thing and then get stuck doing that over the summer. I did finish my second book though.

Congratulations, Moira! You're our first to complete the challenge, and you've done it quite speedily. ^^_^^
If you want to enlarge your yearly total, feel free. You may also choose to start over again. If you increase the number of books you want to read this year, I'll still add you to the list of those who have completed their challenge ((because you originally began with fifty, and you've achieved that)), but you'll remain as a participant with an increased number. If you choose to start again, you can use the same post or make a fresh one.
