Endless Ocean: Quest of the Elements [OoC] (Closed)
Long ago, a terrible evil plagued the Earth...A Power that took countless lives and razed entire villages to the ground. Eight creatures with the strength to wield the elements banded together and were able to seal away this Power, though they could not destroy it completely....They scattered the Key to the Four Winds, and hid the Ancient Artifact that could lead them to the Key pieces with one of their own...
Hundreds of years later, the prison holding the Power is beginning to weaken. It influenced the mind of a Necromancer skilled in the dark artes. He sought Aesir's Pearl, the Artifact of ages past that could locate the elusive Key, hidden for so long. He found it in the possession of a family of Light Mages, but they were cunning. They had foreseen the attack, and sent their son with the artifact to travel across the Ocean to seek aid against the Necromancer's evil. Unfortunately, they did not realize that their son's vessel would be attacked by a group of powerful pirates, each of whom had command over a specific element. They did not predict that their child would fall into the hands of these pirates. But Fate has a strange way of working, and the pirates soon realized they would need to work together with the Light Mage in order to prevent a catastrophe that would threaten the very fabric of reality...
You are one of the eight Chosen from beyond time to locate the eight fragments of the Key so that the Seal over the Power may be renewed, or perhaps so that this Evil might be destroyed for all time...
Rules
1. The main characters are the eight Chosen, one of whom is the Light Mage and the others who are either pirates or someone trapped or traveling with their vessel. Each of these individuals has command over a specific element. If the element you want is taken, you are welcome to make a secondary character with control over that element. The list of available elements will be posted. Those with a strikethrough are not available. Also, the main characters can be any race except for Dragons and Etherians, though I might make an exception if there is a backstory explaining why they can use Elemental magic.
2. No godmodding and no killing/hurting another character without permission.
3. Please try to post at least once a week, though if you can't, it isn't a big deal, just send me a PM so that I know.
4. For now, one major character per person. If there isn't enough interest, I will allow people to take more than one.
5. There will be one Pirate captain and also their second-in-command. They will each be one of the seven pirates with elemental powers, but those who create these characters can choose which element they have.
6. Have fun!

The Setting
- Spoiler:
The World: This world, known as Mydraas, is mostly covered in water, the Endless Ocean. There are very few continents. Some of the larger islands, however, have become hubs for commerce and trade. There are also rumored to be cities underwater created by the Sea People and filled with wonders and treasures.
Grenada: The southern continent from which the Light Mage escaped. It is still a rather primitive society that worships the goddess of Life, Myisha. The Grenadans rely on the bounty of nature to sustain themselves and they are suspicious of outsiders. The land is lush and fertile, overflowing with trees and exotic plants left untouched by human hands. Homes are mostly carved from the bark of trees and wonders shaped from nature are quite common.
Cairzel: Cairzel is the continent directly north and across the sea from Grenada. The people there have built a monumental city of the caliber of Roman legends. They are miners and hoarders of precious minerals and it is evident in their work. Their ruler is said to be of Divine lineage, the Emperor Faust. Little is known about him, however, and he is said to be more concerned with cosmic matters than with his own people. The soldiers of the Cairzel Empire detest pirates and will do anything to stop them.
Tamar: Tamar is one of the largest islands and it is conveniently located in the direct center of the Endless Ocean. It flaunts Arabic architecture and nomads and gypsies are numerous. It is here that business and trade is at its finest, for it is a central stopping point for many a traveler. It is ruled by pirates, but business is so lucrative that even the most upright of citizens seem to care little for their rule. The pirates bother no one as long as they are paid some kind of tribute.
Suber: An island of pleasure located in the southwest, Suber is richwith entertainment from taverns to theatres to music halls. There is something for everyone, even the most hardened criminal. Questions will not be asked in this place, as Suber is strictly neutral.
The Isle of Elements: An isle shrouded in mist, the Isle of Elements was said to be the place where the Power was sealed aeons ago. Terrible storms prevent even the hardiest of travelers from docking on its shores.
Coralis: The greatest of the underwater cities, and the most accessible to races other than the Sea People. Coralis is filled with the natural wonders of the sea. It is also an information center, for news travels quickly among the Sea People, who can understand the language of marine creatures.
Aegis: The fabled skyborne city of the Skylanders. No race other than the Dragons have set eyes on Aegis, for only those who can fly may enter its golden gates. Rumors abound of great treasures and a utopian society, but even the few Skylanders who appear in the world below reveal little of their knowledge.
Mount Caasca: A volcano that rose from the sea, it is here that many of the Dragons abide. None, not even the Skylanders have seen its inner workings.
Uncharted islands: There are many uncharted lands and islands, just waiting to be discovered!
Races
- Spoiler:
- Humans: Humans are the most versatile of races, jacks of all trades. Some have a natural affinity for magic, others for warfare. Still others are engineers and craftsmen. They can be found on most of the islands and both of the major continents.
Sea People: The Sea People have the torso and head of humans but instead of legs, possess the tail of a fish. They also have gills so they can breathe underwater. Most, if not all, have the ability to shapeshift to a human form, but must enter the water every forty-eight hours or they will die. The Sea People have a natural affinity for water magic and can manipulate it in multiple ways. Their greatest creations have been entire underwater cities, many of which are accessible to humans and other races. They are also hoarders of knowledge and secrets and many of the Sea People know a variety of spells for obtaining hidden wisdom. They can also communicate in the secret undersea language.
Skylanders: Often confused with angels, Skylanders have a humanoid appearance but sport a great pair of dove-like wings on their backs. They look down on other races, however, and rarely associate with humans. The only other race that they respect is the Dragons because of their wings. They are masters of air magic and are said to have fashioned cities in the clouds.
Dragons: Dragons come in many shapes and sizes, but they have lizard-like appearances. They all possess a unique gemstone that is embedded somewhere in their body, and they use this gem to change forms from that of a reptile to a humanoid appearance when dealing with other races. As humans, they still retain their wings, and their gem is transferred to one of their belongings. Unlike many of the races, however, they cannot use magic and rely solely on artifacts for any magical designs. They are often employed as messengers because of their great speed. They rule the stratosphere and rarely are found near even the continents.
Druids: A unique sect of humans, Druids rely on nature for all things and believe in maintaining a strict balance. They are largely uncaring towards outsiders, and are openly hostile to those who defile the forest or woodland creatures. Their power lies only with the Earth and they can only channel it through their bodies. The health of nature around them directly affects their powers. A beautiful, well tended garden or a pristine forest will grant them much more power than a place stricken with decayed and dying plants. They are often called on to heal places burned by fire and to heal people as well. They can mostly be found in Grenada.
Etherians: Humans imbued with the essence “etherium,” the Etherians can use gemstones to channel energy to create spectacular effects and to animate strange “machines.” They are mostly found in Cairzel and are widely regarded as holy and wise.
Undiscovered/unknown races: There are many other races on Mydraal, some unknown, others completely undiscovered. If you have an idea for a race, please PM and I'd most likely be happy to include it.
The Laws of Magic
- Spoiler:
- Magic is a potent force in the world of Mydraas. It was magic that aided in the sealing of the Power so long ago. Those who use magic are known as Mages. There are three types of magic, and eight subtypes of elemental magic. In addition to these types of magic, any creature with magical abilities can utilize basic spells that allow them to discover when other types of magic are being cast and to sense other users of magic.
Elemental magic: The magic of the elements. Many humans, Sea People, and Skylanders are born with an affinity for a certain type of elemental magic, though there are few who have mastered more than one. There are eight types: Earth, Fire, Air, Water, Light, Darkness, Storm, and Cosmic. Elemental magic is the most powerful of the three types of magic, but also the most complex. Every time a spell is successfully cast, the caster’s strength is drawn from some part of their body. For example, their sight could dim, their hearing could be impaired, or strength could be drawn from their arms or legs, making them weak. Smaller, more subtle spells have little effect on the body, while stronger, more intricate spells can have devastating effects. These drawbacks are normally temporary and last only a matter of minutes, but if a spell of immense power is cast, it may take hours, days, or even months for the full effects to wear off. Spells can be cast in many ways, with a gesture, a few words, or merely thought. The method used to cast spells is dependent on the individual Mage.
Earth: Earth magic can be likened the natural magic of the druids, only vastly more powerful. While druids can only work with the plant life around them, Earth mages can create new plant life and many also develop an affinity for influencing animals. Their patron is the Ancient Mage, Heiden.
Fire: Fire magic allows casters to draw heat from the air to create flames and manipulate it in many different ways. Fire magic is often unpredictable and wild and fire mages often have the same temperament. Their patron is the Ancient Mage, Forlos.
Air: Air magic allows casters to manipulate air flow and air currents. Some of the most powerful spells can create whirlwinds and waterspouts. Air mages revere the Ancient Mage, Ariel.
Water: Water magic grants its user power over the waters, and within the vast expanse of the Endless Ocean, its effects are the most respected and feared. Water mages are substantially weaker on land, however, most especially the larger continents. Their ancestors originated with the Ancient Mage, Coralina.
Light: Light Mages can manipulate light to illuminate dark places and to blind enemies. They also can use the warmth and energy of light to heal wounds and to cure the sick. They place their hope in the Ancient Mage, Lucius.
Darkness: Dark Mages are rare and unique. Their powers stem around manipulating not only darkness, but the emotions and feelings of others, including being able to induce fear, pleasure, and pain. Dark magic requires the most sacrifice when being used, however, as most of the spells are of significant power. Their patron is the Ancient Mage, Xandor.
Storm: Storm mages are unique in their ability to create large storms. To some degree they can influence air, though not as well as Air mages. They have to exert themselves much less than Air Mages to create storms, and are often utilized in sieges of cities to bring down the architecture with precise lightning strikes. Storm mages pay homage to the Ancient Mage, Tempest.
Cosmic: Another rare type of magic, Cosmic mages draw their power from the stars. Their spells involve finding hidden things, predicting the future, and focusing their essence into a variety of psychic abilities. Cosmic magic requires utmost concentration and is severely hampered during the day. Cosmic mages give thanks to their protector, the Ancient Sage Ryzone.
Natural magic: The magic used by the Druids, natural magic is directly influenced by the health of the greenery around the caster. The caster can only manipulate what is already around himself or herself, such as granting renewed growth to dying plants or increasing the flow of running water. Natural magic does not require a price from the caster, however, because it draws energy from nature itself. Druids guard the secrets of natural magic jealously and look at elemental mages as pretenders.
Ethereal magic: Ethereal magic is the magic used by Etherians. Etherians have been imbued with etherium and can store etherium’s magical properties in gems to produce a wide variety of effects. Etherium is the substance used to energize artifacts of power, and have been seen as a way to grant magic to the masses. Elemental mages and druids despise Etherians and see their magic as unholy and/or unnatural. Artifacts are banned on Grenada and in the underwater cities of the Sea People. The downside to Artifacts lies in the fact that once the Etherium runs out, the Artifact becomes useless.

Username: Anubis
Name: Jackson Reilley
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Race: Human
Appearance: 6'2'' and muscular. Has short black hair usually hidden under a bandanna. His eyes are brown with a reddish tint. Constantly looks like he needs to shave. Wears a pair of blue shorts, a white tank top and a black and white striped bandanna. Has many scars across his torso and back.
Magic Type: Fire
Weapons: Pair of scimitar-like blades, fists, feet, head
Short bio: Jackson was born on Tamar to one of the many nomadic tribes. He hated his life of wandering in the deserts and longed for the Ocean he had heard so much about. When he became of age, he left his people, seeking to be a pirate. He discovered he had the ability to control fire shortly after joining up with his first crew. After a few...accidents, he seems to be able to serve on a ship without burning it down in his sleep. He is a competent swordsman, and a fierce drinker, but is extremely loyal to his crew. He is very well known to have a short and, uh, explosive temper.
