Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
A country begins with an establishment, a colony, a small group willing to overcome wild obstacles in order to make a claim of their own. All sorts take a piece, of different places, beliefs, and cultures, hoping to make a home where they can be accepted and live in peace. Yet, it still takes time to establish something that is dignified and recognizable on a worldly scale. For many, that time is not short. So is the past before Ravenscar Academy.
Very recently has Ravenscar been constructed, deep within the confines of the Rocky Mountain wilderness. Until now, witches and wizards of North American bearing have been subject to transfer across oceans or homeschooling. Those of this generation will receive an education much unlike the previous. A new place to learn and expand their horizons in a way their parents could only hope their child would receive. So begins the Ravenscar Academy.

Plot:
North American has gone without a school for it's many wizards and witches for centuries, but very recently a school was constructed within the confines of American Rocky Mountains. Students that live on the continent have been transferring to schools in South America, Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa or have just resorted to homeschooling, on permission of their Ministries.
Ravenscar Academy is set to change that, and give a new place for students to learn and grow. First year students begin at the age of 11 and attend for the next seven years. First year students, are, of course, not the only ones attending. Any student within the ages of 11-17 are able to attend the academy. Students after their second year will be able to attend classes they would at any other school they planned on attending prior to Ravenscar, or send with their answer letter the classes aside from basics, they'd like to experience.
Ravenscar plans to teach it's students what only they can. But, will this new school really be up to par?

Characters:
*~*YenWen*~*:
- Spoiler:
- Name: Abigail Hammon
Age: 14
Birthday: March 21st
Hopeful house: Kari
History: Abigail was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to a very prestigious wizarding family who began their life in the States back in 1685. Her father, Enzo Hammit, works for the Ministry of Magic under the Department of Mysteries. He is unable to speak of his work but it speculated he works with regulations with Azkaban and it's inhabitants. This, however, is still unknown. Her mother is a witch born to a more impoverished family from Massachusetts and is able to date back her family history to the Salem colonization. She is a very proud woman and presses that pride on her daughter, to know where she came from and the kind of person they need to represent their family line.
Even though their family is very proud of themselves and their strength, they still lead a wealthy life. Abigail has been taken care of by house elves and human servants alike. Her family even has their own goblin to take care of their finances. (He does get paid, of course.) She had no need to even think of fending for herself until now. She was home schooled by her mother at their mansion, despite various invitations to schools in Brazil, England, and France. It was Abigail's pressure that secured the decision to send her off to Ravenscar. Abigail wants a hand in the establishment in what could be a future well-known tradition.
Appearance: Abigail is a very petite young lady. She stands at about 5'2" with a thinner frame. Her eyes are a sterling blue and her hair is a golden blonde, which is kept in a thick braid just past her shoulder blades. Her face has a heart shape which is accentuated by her palely, pinked skin and light, rosy cheeks. According to her mother, she is a late bloomer, and will surely grow into a beautiful, womanly body when she is a bit older.
Despite her thin and currently wirery figure now, she isn't a sportsman. It's unknown whether or not she'd be good at it, but she refuses to try in belief that sports are not a lady's place.
Personality: Abigail was raised as a respectful young lady; a debutant, a southern belle. She believes firmly in order and tradition. A lady should be a lady and a gentleman should be a gentleman. This attitude makes her extremely stubborn and unable to cope with others who are against her beliefs. She can tolerate them, as long as they're not talking about anything really important to her.
She is very precise in whatever she does, as it must be perfect, to the T. It's not enough to be good enough. This allows Abigail to put herself on a pedestal, making her a bit selfish. However, she doesn't hesitate to help those she's befriended. She was raised on southern hospitality and she'll take it with her wherever she goes.
When it comes to strangers, Abby uses the utmost respect. Don't burn your bridges before you cross them, may be the proper turn of phrase for her. Near everyone is useful, at some point, and those that aren't are best to not affiliate with in the least.

Extra: Abigail hates being called Abby. It's one reason she doesn't like interacting with many other people her own age, as they almost always insist on giving her the childish nickname. She also has a pet cat, an Egyptian Mau, who is a nice silvery blue. His name is Alexander and she tends to treat him like the Great king and conqueror he's named after.

Re: Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
All right! I have completed my character. I'm going to post the things in the character sheet made my YenWen in the spoiler. Additional information on my character can be found here.
- Spoiler:
- Name
Fairuza Javid
Age
Fifteen
Birthday
April 9th ((Fifth Year))
Hopeful House
House Iagan
Appearance
Fairuza has beautiful, shiny black hair that extends to the middle of her back in almost imperceptible waves. Her flawless skin has olive undertones which works well with the rest of her colouring. Set into an oval-shaped face are a pair of large, striking, green eyes which are surrounded by dark, thick lashes. Above these arch a pair of thin, black brows. Her nose is straight and small, her lips are full, and her cheekbones are high.
She stands at a height of five feet and six inches, and her figure is growing into an hourglass shape as she matures.
Personality
This particular witch can be very direct and fiery in her nature. Her sense of certainty often leads her to take charge of situations with others often falling in line. Fairuza is charismatic, but if something is boring her, she won’t continue to do it unless it has to do with her school work. Instead, she’ll move onto the next thing of interest.
As someone who is very competitive, she hates to be wrong or less than the best. This leads to her occasionally hurting people she loves with her heated words. However, when she’s calmer, she’s quick to apologize. She’s also quick to forgive those who wrongs her, and she’s quick to forget about it rather than to let it drag her down.
Because Fairuza wants to do great things for her personal betterment, she sometimes takes unnecessary risks, or she will occasionally move forward without proper planning. However, she learns best through experience, and she tends to learn things the hard way.
Biography
Fairuza has lived the average life of any witch or wizard. Her parents, a wizard named Rahim and a witch named Batnoam, loved her very much, and they were both ecstatic when she showed her first sign of magic: making the windows of their home shatter at the stomp of her foot during a temper tantrum. They raised her as well as they could, but they understood that she needed to find her own way and make her own mistakes at time.
When she was eleven years of age, she received a letter of invitation for her to attend the Turtlepox Institution of Applied Mysticism in Brazil – the nearest wizarding school to them. For five years she attended this school and excelled in her studies. She was a quick learner, and she took her school work very seriously.
Fairuza also became competitive. She joined her house’s Quidditch team as a Chaser. Her parents who were rather wealthy bought her one of the fastest brooms with the best maneuverability available, the Firebolt 2000.
At the beginning of her fourth year, she heard they were building a school in the country where she and her family lived. This excited her greatly, for she loved the idea of being nearer to her family. Fairuza was also looking forward to a new environment, for it seemed like a fun, new adventure awaited her.

Sorry this has gone so quiet! Been a busy couple days. Hell, I still have a comic to do that was due Thursday. Ugh.
ANYWAY! Thank you Kathryn. I really like her. :3 I have a personal question though. Where in the states is she from? Out of curiosity.
And to anyone else reading, I encourage you to make more than one character, if you'd like.
My first is almost done, and then I'll get started on my second one.

Re: Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
Here is my first character. Bear with me as this is the first time posting a character sheet on this site.
Not quite sure why my paragraphs are all funky like that, but oh well. I will try to get my second character up soon.
- Spoiler:
- Vin Avery
fifteen
Birthday: 11 November
Hopeful House: House Iagan
History: Gilroy and Naomi Avery are liberal Irish artists
that moved to the United States before Vin was born. Being so into the art
world, they named him after one of the most famous painters of all time:
Leonardo DaVinci. Though the family was not wealthy by any means, they were
still close-knit and happy, perhaps too much so for Vin’s taste. Vin picked up
his parents’ artistic talents at a very young age, much to their pleasure. Then,
he developed even more—into a wizard. Though his parents were rather surprised,
they did nothing to deter him from pursuing his natural path. They enrolled him
in Greystone’s Academy for the Specially Gifted located in the Pacific, which
meant a lot of time and miles away from home. Vin actually enjoyed the school
and being part of this new identity. He became a skilled chaser on the local
Quidditch team (actually receiving somewhat of a fanbase) and put all of his
energy into his studies. However, he was recently asked to leave the school
under confidential reasons, which caused him to change into a more subdued and
private individual. His parents hope to unearth the son they once had with his
attendance at Ravenhurst.
Physical Appearance: Vin has shaggy red locks that
constantly fall into his deep cerulean eyes. His skin is overall a shade paler
than most and tends to burn instead of tan. His height already stretches just
above six feet, and though he is lanky, his muscles have some definition. He
has defined cheekbones and jaw lines that fit in well with his masculine and
symmetrical features.
Personality: The primary thing to know about Vin is that he
shows little interest in practically everything. This comes across as rude and
even selfish to some. Not denying that, he prefers alone time more often than
being amidst crowds of people. Yet, he is not against taking credit where he
believes credit is due. For the better part, he has learned to control his
emotions through art and artistic pursuits. However, he can sometimes betray
strong aggressive emotions if the situation called for it and he found himself
in the mood, which doesn’t occur too often. He does not tolerate any sort of
continuous teasing or bullying, though at first he may just brush it off and
walk away. Also, even if it is rather hard in the beginning for him to make
friends, he tends to remain loyal and keep his friends for prolonged periods.
Classes:
Quidditch Practice
Care of Magical Creatures
Herbology
Defense Against the Dark Arts

I only have a little, very tiny problem with it. From what I've come to understand from the rule of the magic world, being expelled means they can no longer do magic, period. Might I suggest changing it to them asking him to leave or else face expulsion? It gives him the option to keep performing magic while getting him out of the school.
And if you'd like, I can fix the paragraphs for you when I put it up in the first post. It takes a little getting used to, switching forum styles, but you'll get used to it. :3

Oops, my bad. I can change that. ^.^
And that would be lovely if you could. I think I pressed the wrong button or something.

It's all up and done. ;3 You don't have to press enter to go to the next line, it'll do that on it's own. And I recommend when you separate your paragraphs, you put a space between them.

Re: Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
YenWen, sweet! Your character seems neat! Wouldn't it be easier to simply link the character sheets in the first post rather than edit the whole sheet into it? It would not only allow more room for other things in the main post, but it would also allow players to change their sheets if they want to do that. You know?
BehindTheMask, did you type your character sheet in NotePad or somewhere other than FoG? That could be part of the issue. All you need to do to rectify it would be to open the edit of your post in a new tab, go to the beginning of each line and hit delete until it meets with the line above it.
Also, a helpful tip: If you have more than one paragraph, it's good to place a full line of empty space between each one to make it easier to read on a computer screen.

I write up everything in word first. I thought I did leave a line between each paragraph, but perhaps not. I know I pressed a re-alignment button, I think it was, which may have done the trick, and I thought I had fixed it. Apparently not. I shall just see when I post up my second character.

Re: Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
The thing I've learned about Word is that one line of space by simply pressing Enter in Word is actually just a new line of text on a forum. The way to remedy this is by hitting Enter twice or by holding Shift and pressing Enter twice. I don't know anything about the realignment button... I don't actually know what that is. ^o_o^

Re: Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
I advise to not use the realign, as it sets it up for a word document. The dimensions between a word document and a forum set up are a bit off, so it'll always make it look a little... wonky. I advise to just type as you would, no extra buttons aside from the ones on your keyboard.
And to make it easier to see when you've put space between your paragraphs, go to your document settings and make sure there isn't a 10 pt space between documents, or that it's already double spaced. Single spaced, no space between paragraphs. You have to do it manually for it show up on a forum.

Thanks for the tips. I shall try them out. And I've never heard of the button before, either, Kathryn. o.o

Re: Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
I'm starting to get a bit nervous, though. I know the three of us are up for this and are excited, but it's... difficult to a roleplay of this design with only the three of us. I'd like, if possible, to have at least one other person to be happy with it, but I suppose I could go ahead and start the IC and let people join while we're going.
Speaking of starting, I'm wondering what you all think the starting point should be. I was thinking packing up for the trip would be the best point, but if it's preferred, we can always start at the arrival at the school.

I imagined that the best starting point would be any last minute packing, going to the airport, and arriving at the school.

Re: Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
I know what you mean about having more people for this type of roleplay. I don't know if more would be willing to join once they see it up and running. Some people don't check the OOC or recruitment thread first, I think. As for the beginning, either works. I would probably wait to see how you would describe the grounds and building, though, YenWen, just to not deter from your vision.

Re: Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
I'm in the midst of making out the schedule and designing a uniform style. After that, I'll start working on a generalized castle design. Even in the Harry Potter books, there's a lot we never see or know about it, additions are and can be made at any time, and that's what I planned with this one, except for very specific places.
For classrooms, I'll have the first person who posts where they are get the free reign. And I hope everyone understands there will be a posting order.
And Ruu, you're fine, I know I have a couple things to do before we actually get started. :3

Would a castle, even a magic hidden castle, seem a bit out of place in the States?

Actually, no, there are several in the U.S. They don't look exactly like what we would picture, but they're still there. In fact, in Colorado, a man has spent a good portion of his life constructing a castle of his own.
This site has a list of the castles in the U.S.

Re: Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
Excellent! <3
I have the uniform design done (I'm very happy with it) and I have the 1st year schedule done. I know, most of us aren't playing 1st years, if any of us, but I need to figure out all the schedules in order to know where everyone else is, and when teachers are available. I'm also realizing 1st years have a VERY free schedule, but that's to be expected, I suppose.

Re: Ravenscar Academy of Enchantment and Magery (Accepting)
~Here's mine! I hope it's alright! Please tell me if I need to change anything, as I don't know a lot about Harry Potter.
- Spoiler:
Name: Ryan Northfolk
Age: 11
Birthday: March 4
Hopeful house: House Kari
History: Ryan was born to parents who were both well known ambassadors to other countries. As such, he spent most of his young life traveling, rarely attaining the luxury of a stable home life. At a young age, his parents were hard-pressed to find him a place where he could receive steady schooling. As they had many political enemies, they feared leaving their son alone while they continued their duties. In the end, they hired a personal tutor, the most well-learnedtutor they could find, and left it up to him to train young Ryan. When Ravenscar Academy was established, however, and Ryan was of age, his parents were pressured into allowing him to attend as he showed a promising potential for wizardry. Even though the Academy had just opened, at least it was close to home. No one would want to harm Ryan there. Ryan himself begged to be allowed to study at Ravenscar and they agreed.
Physical appearance: Ryan has short hair the color of honey that reaches to the nape of his neck. His eyes are blue, the color of the azure swallowtail. He is slight of frame, and not very physically strong, looking as if a gust of wind could blow him away in one breath. He often has a dreamy expression in his eyes, as if he is looking at something far off. But he has a pleasant smile when it breaks through his somber expression.
Personality: Ryan is a rather dreamy child. With little to do when he was left in the care of countless nannies, he would retreat into his own fantasy world. Discovering his magical powers only augmented his thirst for dreams, dreams where even the powers of magic stretched to their very limits. As such, it is rather difficult to penetrate the dream-like stupor that surrounds him like an aura. Strangely, however, he is very adept at sensing when someone is hurt or upset. This is one of the few times he breaks his self-imposed shell, because he can't bear to see people in pain. When he sets his mind to something, such as his classes and studies, he can become very determined to the exclusion of all else, even his fantasy world. Because of this personality, he has a hard time making permanent friends. Sure, the people he is concerned for often appreciate his concern, but his inevitable slip back into daydreaming usually frightens them off. The few friends he does have are very precious to him and he would protect them with all his might if needed.
Classes taking:
Charms
Transfiguration
Potions
Herbology
D.A.D.A.
History of Magic
Extra: Ryan has a rather weak immune system and tends to get sick often, but he hides it because he doesn't want his parents to make him return to traveling the world.

Extra:
I do have a couple problems. First off, actual magic schooling doesn't start until they turn 11, so I'd either identify that it's not magical tutoring or raise his age. Along with the age, extra classes aren't allowed until 3rd year, so again, either edit that, or raise his age. And just for legibility reasons, I'd bold, underline, or separate the different sections of the profile.
Aside from those things, though, I like him. He seems like a cute kid. :3
