Sparks of Madness OOC
This is a gaslamp themed roleplay (based on this comic : http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php).
In what would be known as Romania, you have been locked up. You are a spark. A spark is what could be called an affectionate term for a mad scientist. And you aren't the best at what you do.
Somehow, you've crossed the line that made you turn from crazy guy working in the mountains to maniacal inventor bent on harming the world. That's the last time you let one of your experiments get free... And then they captured you and confiscated everything. So they thought....
The Romanian government has recently discovered the whereabouts of a Heterodyne Artifact in Egypt. Of course, it is in a pyramid. And they can't afford to let just anyone go on a wild potential goose chase. Here's where you come into the picture. You can be let go with parole, if you go to the pyramid, get the item, and bring it back to Devak, Romania and over to the officials.
The catch? You may not want to give it back. But you'd be fighting with all the other sparks on the mission as well. And one of you may not be who you thought you were.
So, off to Egypt you go. Your airship awaits. You'd be not wreck it for more of your insipid inventions, or you could kill us all. It's the only chance we have to get set free of this cursed imprisonment, so don't mess it up for anyone... or may not realize the next mad scientist has just resurrected you for his army.
Character Sheet:
Name:
Age: (no "child geniuses"-- from early 20's and upwards.)

Inventions: (You can have two smuggled into the jail, with a max of 10 inventions that you can make with spare materials you find around anywhere you go -- and no death beams. you aren't the uber mad geniuses- that's why you got caught. You are the top crust of the lowest layer. You are significant nobody's).
Thematic influence: (you might like spiders. alot. so you'll have spider clanks, a doc-oc battle suit, letal injectors, spider eyes, spider spinnerettes, etc).
(Buzz, remind me if there is anything else we need/ should input)
And of course-- any questions?

Re: Sparks of Madness OOC
I'd say something about theme. Each of the sparks in the comic seem to have some sort of distinct flair that they happen to be good at (except the really good ones, which seem to be awesome at everything).

Re: Sparks of Madness OOC
Name: Bryce Sprucebury
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Appearance: Bryce has slicked-back black hair and yellowish green eyes, possibly due to scientific experimentation, possibly due to birth defects, most probably because his parents had the same yellowish green eyes. He has a square jaw, smooth facial features and fairly good teeth. All in all, his face is fairly handsome.
He stands at 5'10" tall and weighs approximately 150 lbs. His skin is fair, although it leans a bit towards the pale side of the scale. He dresses in a bespoke brown suit with a dashing tailcoat with shining brass buttons, a white dress shirt and black tie beneath. A tophat or bowler almost always complements the outfit, and sometimes even a cane (fitted with a pistol grip that is, actually, a long-barreled pistol inside the cane). He wears comfortable footwear, which most of the time look rather ungentlemanly but feel good to him.
Getting down to business, he foregoes the tie and tailcoat for safety reasons, instead favoring a tightly-fit grey blazer and trousers tied at the ankle with a length of cloth or neutrally-colored ribbon, to prevent them from being caught on loose machinery. He wears a pair of welding goggles with special shutters inside that respond to light - if the light gets too bright they shut automatically. They generally end up wrapped around the band of the hat, even when he's not working.
Personality: He's a typical mad scientist. He's egocentric, clinically insane and loves to plot world domination in his spare time. Secretly he's actually a rather nice guy - kind, charming, funny and sweet - but in order to survive in the world he puts up the guise of a mad scientist.
Biography: He was born in London at one point. His parents, also scientists (though not of the mad classification), travelled quite a lot. Eventually, though, they settled down in Romania. They continued experimenting well into their late years, although tragically, an experiment took both of their lives.
This would be the point where normally rational, reasonable "Bryce Sprucebury" turned into clinically insane, devious "Bryce Sprucebury", mad scientist. He salvaged what he could from his parents' lab and began experimenting. After a while, he experimented a bit on the wrong side of the law, got caught, and was sent to jail.
Inventions:
- Clawinator 2000: A gauntlet that extends halfway up Bryce's forearm, hidden by the baggy recesses of his lab coat or any coat he's wearing. A hideous clockwork thing, brutal to maintain but effective for multiple purposes. The clockwork extends and retracts three 14-inch serrated blades over Sprucebury's wrist, which can be used to cut just about anything, really. They don't have much use other than that. The design isn't perfect; though - it's heavy, and the clockwork sometimes gets tangled in the interior lining of the jacket, or just plain doesn't work. Also the clockwork takes a painfully long time to eject the talons.
- Gogglifyer 5500: Big, bulky goggles. They allow Sprucebury to magnify objects and see in night vision and thermal vision. The drawback to this is that his field of vision is limited while wearing them.
Thematic influence: Owls. Owls with retractable talons, apparently.
(If you don't like the Clawinator 2000 I'll change it for something more mundane.)

Re: Sparks of Madness OOC
Name:Veren
Age: upwards of 500 years.
Gender: Male
Appearance: Veren is a Jägermonster, or one of the ancient servants of the Heterodyne family. He looks mostly human in appearance, but his eyes are red and his skin is a dark purplish color. He is extremely strong, and very fast, though he is not a spark by any means. He enjoys wearing military uniforms with lots of colors, but the one he currently is wearing has been around for quite some time, and has become a little tattered recently. The uniform he is wearing has lots of tassels (“Hy luv tassels!”), and used to be green but is now some sort of faded grayish-green color. He also wears a large red hat, with a jewel in the center, and a very large feather coming out of the back.
Personality: Like all Jägers, Veren is two things: extremely egoistic, and very fond of hats. While most of his kin are in the service of the Wulfenbachs, Veren continues to search the land for an heir of Heterodyne. Unfortunately for him, it seems to be pretty difficult to find one, and most towns he stumbles into looking for one tend to not like Jägers. He does a lot of running because of this. He has begun to question whether or not he will ever find an heir, but sometimes, he like to think he'd rather not. Isolated from any master or any other Jägers, He has begun to find he enjoys living on his own. Also, much like every other Jäger ever, he loves to get in fights.
Biography: Veren was born a very, very long time ago in the city of Mechanicsburg, and quickly fell into the service of the Heterodynes. Like other Jägers, he was a castle guard before joining the ranks of constructs, but he was a particularly good one, and his master was a particularly mad Heterodyne. When a Heterodyne asks you if you'd be willing to take the Jägerbräu, you just don't say no, especially when they point a death ray at your face at the same time. Since then, Veren's life has done nothing but look up. Sure, there's that pesky little need to obey the Heterodyne family, but at least life isn't boring. Plus, he gets to be in lots of fights!
Inventions: Veren's not really an inventor. He likes to smash em', though! Mostly just claws and teeth.
Thematic influence: Veren isn't a spark, and as such lacks a theme.

Re: Sparks of Madness OOC
Name: Rorik Horak
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Appearance: Rorik is of a tall disposition. He stands taller than most men, at a respectable height of 6' 3". But most of the time, he slouches, so people perceive him to be shorter than he actually he is. His gaunt face is elongated, filled with an apparent sadness: but ruddy as of a face permanently marked by the cold. His eyes are a dull brown, his hair a burnt sienna. His body bares various scars from experiments gone bad. Generally, he wears a black blazer, with a tan shirt underneath, with complimentary black pants. The dashing Victorian look always looks nice. Of course, he has a cape, that can blend in with his clothing.
Personality: Rorik is sullen, morose, apathetic. Why bother doing stuff? It isn't really quite that interesting. He still manages a level of moderate politeness to acquaintances but nothing more-- it is airy, flimsy, false. It's probably that most people don't understand his favorite topics.
Of course, that's only true until you talk about sparks and technology. Then he perks up like a dog that's heard its name in a conversation. There is nothing more enthralling then talking about the use of technology. Just inspecting an airship is a thousand times more interesting than the throwing of a ball, or small talk.
Biography: Born south-most part of the Ukraine, Rorik was in a wonderful town for inventions. There was a surplus of materials due to an old abandoned mine (for fear of clanks). After having found a wrench, he built his very first clank. It was small and adorable, and efficient at hunting imaginary vampires.
He knew that they were out there. And they were coming to get him. But he'd get them first. One day he made his most advanced clank, and it went to town. Literally. It destroyed buildings, hunting apparent vampires.
Then his parents moved to Romania. Where the cycle repeated. By then, they had separated from him and hoped that he would become a bit more logical. He didn't have to fear vampires, but jagers, and other deadly enemies. Not (plausibly) imaginary vampires. But Rorik wouldn't listen well enough.
Then the Romanian government locked him up after he repeated the disaster that he made in the Ukraine. There was nothing that could be done for him.
Inventions: Desperado Cloak: Everyone knows vampires can fly. Especially Rorik. So he modified a cloak, to allow for it to glide within the air. It has gas propulsion systems at five set distances at the bottom, allowing prolonged flight for up to fifteen minutes. It can be activated by a trigger concealed in Rorik's shoe's heel. Stupid guards, letting him keep his shoe. The max flight speed is a respectable 15 m/s. The only vampire that is running is a wounded vampire, and you only need to keep it in range to shoot it with your Stake Gun.
Stake Gun: Stakes of wood, splashed with (hopefully) holy water, loaded into a spring cannon. It has a ten stake chamber, with two stake clips hidden on Rorik's person. The max shooting speed is 50 m/s, and the max distance is 30 m. The stakes are 10 cm, with the gun 35 cm in length. After every shot, it must be re-calibrated, with a reset time of 20 seconds. You can hide a lot of things when you are 6'3".
Thematic influence: Anti Vampires.
And your claw is fine cypher!

Re: Sparks of Madness OOC
Anyway, while we are waiting for more suitors, Imma divulge a bit more info.
First, people will start out in jail. Literally. The cell get up, hidden gear, the works. Complaining about poor food? Yup.
Secondly, airship madness. Is it going to crash? I'm not sure. It could. It isn't very supervised.
Thirdly, jager conditioning. Jager's are lured to Heterodynes just like flies are to vinegar. Someone isn't who they believed they were.
Any questions?

Vyncent Deringer: A Work in Progress
Name: Vyncent "Vyn" Deringer
Age: 41
Gender: Male
Appearance: Tall, dark, and ruggedly handsome, Vyn has thick, shoulder length, brown hair and deep brown eyes. He has an athletic body that he tends to keep concealed within neatly tailored suits and heavy topcoats. Because of his fastidious and impeccable manner of dress, some would consider him a dandy; however, upon watching the man in action they would swiftly reconsider such a description.
Biography: Raised in a healthy, nurturing, loving home, one cannot help but wonder why Vyn is so bitter and angry all of the time. Perhaps his attitude has something to do with the photo that he keeps tucked away inside of his coat pocket, kept ever so close to his heavy heart.

Re: Sparks of Madness OOC
Name: Augustin Mauers
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Appearance: Tall, lanky, and pale, Augustin Mauers bears a rodent-like face with sparkling blue eyes and short-cropped blond hair that always has a cowlick somewhere. Very bony. Prefers to wear a straightjacket, unfastened of course, with his long, leathery sleeves dragging across the floor. Plain-looking, a face you would forget, with a small mole under his left eye.
Scribbled in ink, symbols, equations, and notes crawl on his body so he wouldn't forget all his random eurekas. Most of the time, they never make sense to anybody else, but when the time comes, they surprisingly do! Pockets have become the latest obsession with Mauers whose time is usually spent collecting buttons, logs, zippers, and threads and making pockets everywhere in his clothes, even in his shoes.
Personality: Determined and always calculating, this quiet mouse just can't stay still. Always on the move and digging up information and items from the most unlikeliest places and at the most bizarre times. Most of the time, humble and private. Takes serious care of himself and his boundaries. Dislikes being center of attention, but will face what needs to be done.
Fascinated with astronomy and tarot, a staple influence from living with his spiritually-driven aunt, Mauers discovers what could be the greatest step in his mad-scientist pursuit: relating with the human psyche and their ultimate destiny. With their weaknesses and obstacles to manipulate, Mauers understands he is capable of global control. But he is yet 20 years old, burdened with teen angst and vulnerability to fear, and he is already seeing faces that float and scream across the room. He is gullible and has a tendency to make senseless decisions that sometimes hurt himself.
Biography: Born and raised in Romania to a deceased colonel and a lyme-diseased housewife confined to her bitter-scented farm, Augustin Mauers was placed under the care of Sofia Barburg, his mother's eccentric French sister. Disciplined and often beaten for not being very useful, especially for a male teenager, Mauers quickly learned to win her affection by inventing gadgets and pleasing her every whim. As the relationship turned sourly incestual, Mauers stole a wad of cash, a basket of biscuits, and carried all his inventions on a trek through Europe, earning a pretty good salary, just enough to tempt him to conspire world domination.
After announcing a doomsday device to the public, which involved mathematical theorems and stripping oxygen from existence, Mauers was disappointed to find all his work hadn't worked properly and merely popped a fizz. Considered this a sign of him being one among the sparks, Mauers were arrested and brought to this cell.
Inventions:
1. The Golden Ruler-- Inspired by a popular theory in sacred geometry, which said that all creation of life comes from the same measurements, Mauers built a small half-moon disk that composed of cogs, screws, gear wheels, and a solar panel. Running on sunlight, the dials that follow the coordinates of divine design automatically pinpoint secrets in any cryptic, geometric-based places such as the pyramids. The debate of whether the Egyptians knew about the golden ratio intrigued Mauers, and it was exceptionally enthralling to have found his calling. But thus far, the Golden Ruler was a useless measuring system and seeing how harmless it was, Mauers was allowed to keep it.
2. The Stereo Harp-- Inspired by Hermetic tablets that state musical instruments, crystals, and lightwaves altogether play a huge part in unlocking the secrets of Atlantis, the Great Pyramid of Giza, and Machu PIcchu, Mauers built a musical box similar to the accordion using a handle to grind and generate electricity on one side with steel strings on the other while strapped around the player's shoulder with a speaker projecting the sweet sounds through radiowaves. Intending to react with something else, perhaps search for harmony and complete the procedure understood thousands of years ago, the Stereo Harp whines and screeches, not quite musical and not quite useful. Again, without a purpose, it was allowed in his jail cell along the Golden Ruler.
Thematic influence: Tarot.

Re: Sparks of Madness OOC
Someone else should go ahead and do it first. I'll try to get something up for tomorrow, but my first priority is signing up for classes and writing a post for Emoria. If I can't, I'll get something up as soon as I can, although I don't have the "jagerizer" I found on the computer that I'm using.
