I am currently up to my knees in things to do. I need to make two different role play posts, and I need to make corrections to some things that someone else wrote. =3

Re: What are you currently doing?
I am learning how to use the mental ray in my class, since our previous teacher never actually taught any of us. Ooh, break's just about over now!
Aw, good luck, Kathryn! I know how you feel.

It's sounds futuristic, actually.
I really don't think you know how I feel, Fate, because I'm just up to my knees... You're submerged to your neck. XD

Studying the Fin-de-siecle Art Nouveau movement, and the Femme Fatale.
This is an illustration for Wilde's book production of Salome...drawn by Aubrey Beardsley, Salome with Head of John the Baptist, 1892
Enjoy

That's a really interesting work... I'm having trouble deciding just how much- or possibly how little- I like it...

Currently eating cotton candy (candy floss) and watching CSI LV (the only CSI worth watching in my mind)
Just finished off an awesome dinner of chili in bread-bowls with lots of mozzarella cheese!

Re: What are you currently doing?
Yeah. I suppose it is. I think that picture is going to present a love-hate deal in my mind... I like the way that piece flows a bit, but in general, it's nothing special. I personally know people who can produce better art than that.
Yeah... love-hate covers it... just like love-hate covers this ridiculous song that used to be on the radio by... some... emo-rap band called... um... :: thinks... :: um... :: googles :: 3Oh!3... bleh... It's so stupid... but there's this amazing line about beef and vegetarianism in the beginning that I love. XD
{EDIT}
Reffy! Fail! >=( the orignal CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is the only one worth watching! It has Grissom, and he is the best! ^^_^^

Re: What are you currently doing?
I am posting here!
I agree. The original is the best CSI.
I am also wondering if it is politically correct to think of children as property. Think about it for a second. You never hear someone say: I birthed this child 9 months ago. You hear: I had my child 9 months ago. What's up with the whole ownership thing? Is it like indentured servitude?
Anyway the talk at work (the group consists mostly of parents and yes I am the youngest in my department) was that yes you do own the child until they turn 18. So yeah. Just my random thought of the day.

Re: What are you currently doing?
I usually say "I gave birth" or "He was born". I think 'had' is just lazy american language...
You have legal guardianship over your child until he is 18...I wouldn't call it ownership though. Some may feel that way...but I don't look at my son and see property. Ticket to the evolutionary gene pool maybe, but not property

Re: What are you currently doing?
Of course you don't look at your son and think "property," but I agree that yes, he is your property. You even get a benefit for having him when tax season rolls around.
I think they belong to their parents until they're eighteen unless those parents or the child(ren) die, the government takes the child(ren) from those parents, or until they are emancipated. You have to take care of your child just like you have to take care of anything else you own- like plants or DVD's or books, etc.

Re: What are you currently doing?
I understand what you mean, but I think children are different than property...or at least, in my life, my child in no way associates with property.
If I had apartment insurance in an apartment, and it caught on fire...and I lost my possessions as well as my family...property insurance would not cover the loss of a person, because a person is not the same thing as an owned item. Yes, I could try and sue the apartment complex, but that is a different situation, and has nothing to do with whether or not said child is property.
It really depends how you look at it, but I definitely don't relate any human to property. I feel it is unethical to view any human that way, and you cannot build a solid relationship with anyone if you view or treat them as something you own. I do not plan on raising Theoden in a "Do as I say because I said so" environment, as I was not raised in one and I have a good relationship with my parents.
I guess what I am trying to say is that It would be somewhat hypocritical of me to say I don't believe in slavery, but I own my child. So while some people out there may have the belief that they own their children (including the IRS, in your example), and there are certainly people out there who still believe in slavery...I am not one of them.
I understand my view is radical, but as a possible cultural anthropologist, I have to be very careful about my treatment of fellow humans, including but not limited to my own family.

Re: What are you currently doing?
Just because you own something, doesn't mean you have to treat it like a belonging. My cat was my pet, but he was a part of the family. I didn't force him to do my bidding whether he liked it or not. In fact, if he wanted to do something, there was no way in hell I could make him stop ((like sitting in my lap)). Owning someone and enslaving them are entirely different concepts.
I do commend your parenting methods. I was raised in an "do it because I said so" environment, and it sucked ass.

I disagree here, I feel that all forms of ownership of human beings is in itself a form of slavery.
...but...I don't want to argue because I'm just not that argumentative. This is just my opinion, and I realize that.
I also feel that this ethnocentric mindset of ownership of children (no, not all parents around the world feel this way) could be a direct or indirect cause of adolescent angst in teens today. But yea, that is totally just a hypothesis and I don't know if it has been tested.

Thank you. It is not an easy choice but I stand by it, for I want a child who will question authority if authority does something worth questioning, rather than follow like a lamb.

Re: What are you currently doing?
Right. I accept your opinion as yours, and I respect it. ^^_^^
Also, yeah. It has to be difficult. It's easier to say, "Do this because I said so." rather than "You should do this for this valid reason."
