Edguy are awesome, Dagger. Although I think they peeked with Hellfire Club and ahve been steadily going downhill since then.

I've yet to actually listen to the original version of the song, Kathryn. ~chuckles~ I really should sometime.

King of Fools - Edguy

Avantasia are also really good. Its Tobias Sammet's (Edguy's vocalist) side project. Metal Opera, basically. Each album has anywhere up to eight guest vocalists playing different roles in the stories. He's done two so far, the first two albums were in a fantasy theme and the last three were a Faust styled story.

Against the World - Nocturnal Rites

Actually quite fond to listen to Edguy and Avantasia. I think the only album I haven't got from the former is the first album (forgot the name from the top of my head) and all I can say is that it is brilliant. Certainly turned my musical sense away from thrash metal like Metallica and Testament.

Nocturnal Rites are pretty cool. I don't often see someone mentioning them. I myself have never really been into the thrash metal stuff, I'd rather go with the more 'traditional' metal like Morgana Lefay, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian and such bands.

Power Metal (especially European power metal, though Kamelot and Iced Earth have been the exceptions that I've heard before) has caught my interest through Avantasia and Edguy (though I could say DragonForce, but they are more speed metal than power metal). Those bands have somewhat helped me gain a better idea on how to... ahem... 'sing' now than how I have done before. Anyone who can suggest bands like that would be appreciated since I am keen to widen my choice of bands to listen to.

Most of the bands I listen to are from Europe. Some examples of other good power metal, and prog (if you're into that) would be Thunderstone, Celesty, Ride The Sky, Falconer, Warmen, Pyramaze, Rhapsody/Rhapsody of Fire, Vision Divine, Wuthering Heights, Masterplan, Startovarius, Tad Morose, Evergrey, Vanden Plas... and many more.
