I thought after Layne Staley died (OD'ed on a speedball of heroin and cocaine, yeah he was wicked addicted and destroyed himself) that they'd never put out a fourth album, but here it is, 15 years later.

Some great music, headed by the mastermind Arjen. Music displays elements of progressive rock/metal, industrial, experimental, atmospheric, ambient, symphonic... often refered to as 'rock opera' because the expansive storyline drive of the lyrics... each album has over five vocalist from across the spectrum, clean vocals throughout. Worth a listen no matter what you like (in my opinion).

Among guest vocalist have been: Johan Edlund (Tiamat), Floor Jansen (ex-After Forever), Simone Simons (Epica), Bruce Dickenson (Iron Maiden), Jorn Lande, Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian/Demons & Wizards) and many others.

Mosane (E.S. Posthumus)

Nothing says "epic" like E.S. Posthumus. The music is so widely known and respected by not only musicians but by the movie industry that I'm sure you've heard at least 3-4 of his songs. Granted you may not had been aware of that but when you do listen to his music I'm sure the memories will come flooding back to you.

My hair got blown back, so I decided to pass this one. I mean, I like Jeff Beck's stuff, I just never heard this before.

Jonathan got me Within Temptation's The Silent Force CD, so I'm listening to that. I had never heard of them before tonight, but I am seriously in love with their music. It's sooo beautiful... I don't even know how to describe it... The only band to which I can think to compare it is Evanescence, but they're not at all really like that band...

Argh...

It's beautiful music. I'll just leave it at that.

Evanescence is far more mainstream sounding, more basic and simplistic than Within Temptation... more like a more accessable version that Lacuna Coil than anything close to Within Temptation really.

The Silent Force is the only Within Temptation CD that I own so far, myself. Need to get Mother Earth and Enter still... wasn't really that impressed with the latest release (The Heart of Everything). They're just one of the very good European female-fronted bands, though they don't compare to many of the other bands in terms of how heavy the music is, even though Within Temptation are Symphonic Metal. Great band all the same though.

Waiting for the new Epica cd to come out over here right now... love that band. Also need to get some cds of Lullacry, Magica, Dreamside, Edenbridge, Tristania, Sirenia... numerous others. Femme-fronted metal is pure awesome. Sadly, like most of anything I still need to get, I have to order their music offline.

That album truly is amazing though, Kathryn. Alongside Nightwish they're the most popular of the Euro-metal bands with female vocalist. Well, Lacuna Coil is pretty well known to but they sound much different.... huh, didn't mean for that to end up as long as it did. Anyway, good choice of listening! Very Happy

You know, I was actually hoping that you had heard of them and would say something.

When I heard the first few songs, I thought, "I wonder if this is near the kind of music to which Melancholy listens?" Then I was talking to Danger, and he said something about them reminding him of Nightwish, and I was figured you would definitely have something to say. hahah

I'm so glad I have such a musically-well-rounded lover. I get to listen to so much amazing music through him that I never would have heard otherwise. He's like me, and he listens to just about everything, but he has a far broader range of music to which he listens because I really only get to hear what's either on the radio or music to which other friends introduce me.

Dial-up sucks...

But thanks for the props. ^^_^^

Yes, they are one of the numerous bands that I listen to. Dial-up is really horrible but since I am not a fan of music that can be heard on the radio, online delving has been the only way I can find more bands that I like. Well, there are other people as well but they are few and hard to find, and always online since no one around here (that I know) listens to the same stuff that I do, at least not as much of it.
