The Matrix: Jacked In
The smell of the morning coffee carried up to the rooftops above the cafés. The aroma was alluring and enticing to the woman who had the unjust pleasure of taking in the scent from those very roofs. Unable to stop or slow down, she ran along the shingles or the cement, undetected, for her digital makeup was currently encrypted. The subsequent building, unlike the previous, was fit for balcony use, with outdoor metal reclining chairs lined up atop the tiled concrete, which was adorned with greenery and potted plants. With a heavy stomp, the young woman came crashing down, landing on both feet but breaking into a roll from the momentum. The sound of birds hastily flying away in fright, startled at the sound from the seemingly absent presence, broke her concentration for a moment.
These sounds, the smells, the sights, even the very cement of the roof she was touching -- all of it she knew wasn't real, yet the Matrix was telling her otherwise. Garnet Wine accepted that these were all fallacies, and as a welcome result, she was able to slightly alter the way things worked here, in this false reality. In a way, the Matrix to her was almost like a game, a most realistic virtual reality in which she and others like her could accomplish feats that would rightfully be called impossible in the real world.
Taking her head out of the clouds, Garnet broke off at a sprinting speed faster than even an Olympic medalist could hope for, though not at all backed by her own leg muscles, and concentrated hard as she headed for the opposite side of the building's roof. There it was. Like a hi-tech GPS system with a tracking device, Garnet reached outward with her mind, entering those that were...unusual in nature. She felt their presence, their thoughts, their anger, and she also felt their whereabouts. It wasn't like seeing it with your eyes, as she could not use this ability for such things. Instead, it was more of a sense of knowing, just as they knew where they were, and so too then did she. These abnormalities were not far, just as she had suspected. A couple more blocks, and she would have them located. Garnet, too, was fully aware of what these creatures were. In addition to being large, intimidating in appearance, and monstrous, they also were extremely dangerous. As far as she could tell, there were four of them, each together and headed for the same location -- a building in which The One would find the program christened The Keymaker. It was her intention to intercept these demons before they could reach them, but she was not alone in this mission, for there were others from the hovership The Awakening that had accompanied her here. Their locations had been spread out when they jacked in, however, as these lackeys for the Merovingian program were already on the move, and it was unclear as to where they were headed, since Garnet's Operator had been unsuccessful in pinpointing the location of The Keymaker himself.
Without any further buildings to fly across above the crowded city streets, she accepted the fact that, from here forth, she would need to walk on solid ground. Leaping off the tall building, plummeting straight down toward the alleyway between it and a neighboring building, Garnet landed with grace, but, knowing she had no time to waste, was off once more, weaving in and out of people and traffic, knowing fully well that those she bumped into would have fun trying to figure out what had hit them, being that she was invisible to more than just the eye. Her thin, shiny red leather trench coat blew behind her for only her to see.
She remembered the very time she came into possession of that very jacket. It was early on, after she had been awakened. She had been brought to the Construct by Zen, the Commander of The Awakening. He explained to her that anything they needed could be loaded into that program.
"Anything?" questioned Garnet in disbelief, for such a thing was every girl's dream.
"You name it," responded Zen with a slight smile, clearly amused.
Zen was larger man, muscular, who, at one point, seemed to have had a buzz cut, but now had a glossy bald head, which he seemed to be okay with, even inside the Matrix. He certainly looked as if he could have been in the military. It was rare to see him smiling, especially these days.
"Well," Garnet had thought, for the first time, unable to think of just what she wanted. "A Lamborghini," she blurted, surprising even herself. "A red one." She had never been into cars, but she did always admire the Italian automobile.
Instantly, the vehicle was loaded in front of her, sleek, spotless, and gorgeous. She remembered stepping inside and hearing the purr of its engine, the feel of the seat hugging her and the smell of the leather interior. It was perfect.
"Happy?" Zen asked.
"What about clothes?" was the next thing Garnet had inquired about, unable to hide the large grin on her face.
She specifically remembered Zen laughing at this, and Garnet was overjoyed, to the point of nearly passing out, when she found out she could have the most massive wardrobe she could ever dream of. It was then that she recalled the red leather jacket.
"It was Prada and over two-thousand dollars," she explained with pleading eyes. "It was the first time I ever fell in love."
Zen seemed quite entertained and delighted when the jacket that Garnet had been picturing and recalling in her mind appeared in the Construct, hers to wear. As trivial as it was, it was one of the most memorable moments from when Garnet came to the real world. She had religiously held on to the jacket ever since, now a reminder of her past and her present.
Unable to resist, Garnet allowed herself to roam the minds of all those nearby as she made her way though the bustling streets, hoping to get another lock on the location of the demonic programs. The thoughts of those around her were sickening and overly dramatic or negative. She disliked listening to people complain in their heads about the traffic or their jobs or the girl next to them that had a flatter stomach and a curvier bust. It was more than Garnet cared to know, and she crinkled her nose in disgust as she ran past, inching closer to the minds of the Merovingian goons. They were headed for a building in Midtown. She could picture it in her mind. This was not good. They were now dangerously close to reaching The Kaymaker, but Garnet was also much closer to reaching them. She hoped the others from The Awakening were as well.
Deciding it best to report back (plus, unable to resist the urge to speak with their Operator, Alec, again), Garnet picked up her cellphone.
"Operator," Alec answered from back on The Awakening hovercraft.
"Alec, I've got a lock on the location of our guys. They're nearing the intersection of West Fifty-Seventh and Tenth Ave. Where are the others?" Her voice was urgent, but had a distinct sweet undertone.
"They're near there," he replied, with relief. "I'll let them know." He paused, as if to hang up, but caught himself. "Thanks," he acknowledged, his tone of voice unreadable, and then ended the conversation.
Knowing full well she could not take on four demons alone, Garnet had to devise a plan to distract them all in the mean time. She flew down Fifty-Sixth Street and then up Tenth Ave. Sure enough, the four of Merovingians employees were making their way through the crowds, heading straight for one of the many brown buildings across from Roosevelt Hospital. For the most part, they looked like average guys in a big hurry, but she knew better. She didn't doubt that they could shape-shift upon will.
It was now or never. She didn't stop to think. She couldn't, or else she wouldn't have ever been able to work up the nerve. Pulling out her Glock handgun, Garnet took aim and fired at them. She missed once, due to them running, but because they had their backs turned, she had landed the rest of her shots. They would not kill them, but they sure would sting. She dropped her encryption, so as to reveal herself for the first time. Her short red hair stood out amongst the crowd, and she seemed to be the only one wearing dark sunglasses. Immediately the four of them, all large, ripped, and with permanently furled brows turned to stare at her, and in the next second, they were at her heels, following her behind the buildings and through the alleys. They were fast, faster than she had anticipated. They probably assumed they all could have her beaten and killed and still be in time to get to The Keymaker, and rightfully so. The four of them worked like a wolf pack might, always strategically trying to maneuver into a spot where they could get her cornered. If it weren't for Garnet's abilities to use telepathy to get hints at determining their next move before they made it, she would have failed at eluding them.
It was quite a sight to be seen by the outside observer: a young woman being chased by four brawny men. This young woman had herself a gun though, and, to keep them pursing her, she kept firing shots from behind her, hearing the sound of one bullet piercing one of the men in the ankle, muscle fragments and blood flying off him. This only seemed to give him all the more energy and adrenaline though, and their speed increased. Garnet was forced to retreat to one of the apartment buildings, blowing past the man that exited, who was, seconds later, thrown to the ground by the demons disguised as men. Up the stairs and through the hallways Garnet went, her heart racing.
"Where the fuck are they?" she asked herself, leaping out the open window at the end of the hall to land back down on the streets.

Re: The Matrix: Jacked In
The wind felt nice... Especially when you're moving near 45 miles an hour, and in mid-air.
Ryy's arms and legs were cycling after an enormous jump from a library building to a food and drug supermarket. This was a sort of paradise for him, it felt like flight. Though it wasn't even in his dream where he could match the rumored abilities of The One. His concentration was on the gravel roof of the building he was about to land on, when he heard his phone ring. It was the same high pitched, annoying ring everyone else had. Ryy almost wanted to get one of the operators to change it to a goofy tone just to see everyone's reactions. He didn't have the time to answer, though, as the rooftop was coming up fast.
Landing with a crunch of the gravel below him, and a long slide, he stopped himself with an air conditioning unit. Reaching into his long black coat to stop the incessant ringing, on it's second ring, Ryy quickly reacted once he felt the hard surface his his fingertips in the pocket. Whipping it out with his right hand, and a flick of the thumb and wrist had the slide up.
"Go 'head," he spoke into the black receiver, taking off once again to continue his track of the four Merovingian programs The Awakening was after. You see, most people would just prefer to run at ground level. Though Ryy, running around with a sheathed katana in his left hand would look pretty odd, and probably call attention from the police. He took to the rooftops, because not only did it keep him out of the public eye, it also provided for faster transportation. It meant he didn't have to dodge the lady yelling at her kid, or the old man with the O2 tank, or dodge cars because he ran on a 'halt' pedestrian light.
Over top of the sound of his coat rippling behind him, coupled with the air rushing past his face, Ryy listened to Alec give him the situational report on the four Merovingian soldiers. Landing, and stopping for a final moment of the conversation, Ryy stood at the very edge of a corner of a square building. A crooked smile crept across his face as he ended the short conversation, "Got it."
Ryy looked down, Alec told him they would be at Fifty-seventh and Tenth. Just so happened that that was almost exactly where he was. He then heard gunshots to his right- from the ground. With a happy exhale from his nose, coupled with a bigger smirk, he said to himself quietly, "I think i heard a shot..." Comically, of course. These are popular lyrics from a song by Rage Against The Machine. He slung the sunglasses off his face and stuff them into his breast pocket before his vision zeroed in below him- and right. Four brutes being put under fire by... none other than Garnet Wine.
Watching the four break from their current paths to chase Garnet down, Ryy began again. "how long...? not long... Because what you reap-" He gave a quick pause to lean foreward, his shoes still connecting with the building side, he used a typical adhesion skill an an a-typical way. He began sliding down the building. "Is what you sew." It was almost as if he were surfing, his left hand out gripping the sword's sheath just below the hand guard, his left foot out to guide, his right foot behind for balance. His shoes passing over the large brick and mortar made a light scuffing sound the entire way.
His eyes began to flare slightly as he came closer to the ground, his coat again waving frantically behind him, and his four targets in sight were giving chase to Garnet. It was almost too good, though, as they were moving fast. Ryy had to bail on the building with only about Thirty-Five yards to spare, pressing himself off with a burst of strength to push him in the direction of the brutes. He soared once again through the air, and landed in the middle of the street, several yards out. No luck, they were fast, and Garnet was, too. Ryy needed to change plans.
Chasing after someone chasing something else wasn't an easy task if the odds were against you. Here? The odds were against Ryy- and Garnet, especially. Ryy was going to try and head off Garnet if he could. Meet her head on- instead of trying to play catch-up.
He watched the four enter an apartment building after Garnet, so Ryy was going to go to the other side- See if Garnet would go to the rooftop and jump to the building to the far side. Ryy made his way on the street, looking up to the building, running through an alley and over a chainlink fence to get to the street looking at the opposide end of the apartment building. Ryy didn't have much time, and sensing this, he ran to the building across the street from the apartment complex. It was a multi-level parking structure. He leapt up on the third level's ledge, facing the apartment complex's side, with several windows...
"Ok.. where is she... Come on... come on...." He pleaded, then hearing glass smash, his eyes locked on. "There!" He saw Garnet crash through a window, his eyes flaring, and his adrenaline pumping. "Garnet! Up here!" he shouted, watching her land to the streets. He expected her to come from something a little higher, but fair enough. She could make it to him, the way he did. It was an easy jump. "Trap 'em here!" he waved his hand to both get her attention and gesture for her to 'come up'.
He was yelling because that was probably the only way she could hear him. Hopefully she would understand. The four didn't know he was there yet... This means that She could lead them up the spiraling structure, and Ryy cut cut them off, and try to even the odds. Two on Four were much better odds than one on four. It was also a parking garage, which meant plenty of light cover, and possible distractions if they needed to escape.
Okay little sis... where are you...?... was all else that would pump into his mind as he watched Garnet to see her reaction.

Re: The Matrix: Jacked In
The glass from the window would have pierced Garnet's skin just as it would any other person's, but that was assuming she broke through it with her body. 'Hacking' the Matrix, Garnet was able to cause the window to shatter moments before she lunged her body through it, just as one may open a door without ever touching it with their hand or even kicking a locked one down with very little effort. There, in turn, was no real impact, and she landed safely on the sidewalk, now severely startling and confusing the pedestrians walking by. Many let out gasps, while others continued to walk, picking up the pace. One man went over to see if she was all right. Garnet didn't have time for this though, ignoring him, her eyes narrowed.
She had heard the familiar voice of Ryy calling to her...but where was he? Looking around, Garnet realized these demons would be flying out the same way she did any second. Just then, she noticed him out of the corner of her eye, dead ahead of the window she flew out from, from atop a parking garage, his arms flailing, trying to get her attention. She nodded and wasted no more time, taking off in his direction.
With a moment's concentration, the young woman positioned herself and leapt straight up into the air, high enough to land on the top of a street lamp. There was no hiding from the people around them now. Garnet tried to rationalize this though, hoping that perhaps their minds may one day be able to be freed because of witnessing this event. At that moment, one after the other, the demons rocketed out of the apartment complex, now fully transformed into their demon forms, which mirrored their human appearances -- large and intimidating. Their eyes were pupil-less now, and they each had horns of varying lengths protruding from their heads. Their legs were shaped like that of a muscular goat, and their feet were cloven. Garnet didn't take the time to observe all this currently though; she simply recalled it from seeing them once before.
From her position, Garnet leapt up the side of the parking garage, running straight up it, using an adhesion technique. When she was close enough to be sure she could make the jump, she leapt straight up into the air again, skipping levels of the garage, until she reached the one that Ryy was waiting for her on, landing just inside in an empty parking spot.
Panting, Garnet tried to remind herself she was not really breathing air, hoping to catch her breath quicker as she swiftly made her way over to Ryy. When those light blue eyes greeted her, a wave of relief washed over her, and she knew she was not alone. She could not conceal her comfort in him finding her and Merovingians demons.
"Am I glad to see you!"
Garnet remembered the first time she meant Ryy when he transferred to their hovership. It was under a less-than-favorable situation, as Ryy's previous ship's crew had lost their lives in an attempt to rescue a potential redpill. It was hard to see the man so upset for quite some time, having lost the people he was first familiar with since waking up in the real world, and Garnet could understand why. She could also understand too why Ryy's companion on the The Colossus, Bast, decided not to transfer to another ship for awhile. She only hoped that both of them would be in better spirits and up to the daily demands of living in Zion and working toward freeing the bluepills from the grasp of the Matrix.
Looking at Ryy now, she could see the determination in his eyes and the will to fight. He went into a sort of zone each time he fought in the Matrix, Garnet noticed. Perhaps it was his method of coping with all that life - both real and fantasy - had thrown his way. Or, maybe, he was simply living in the here and now and was ready to give it his all. In either case, Garnet felt safe fighting along his side.
They didn't have time to talk now though, seeing that just as Garnet turned around, holding up her handgun toward the long opening of the parking garage which she flew in from, the four demons leapt inside, landing so hard, that the concrete cracked beneath their hooves.

Re: The Matrix: Jacked In
It took her a second to see him, all the while he was thinking Come on, come on! up here! Though didn't want to call the attention of the pursuers as well. His face became a little less tense once he saw that Garnet had noticed him. Oh good... We may have time to set up a- his thought process was interrupted by four 'demons' rocketing from the apartment, two from the same window Garnet busted through, and two through separate windows a few floors above where she was.
"Am I glad to see you!"
Ryy just gave her a crooked smile, stepping over toward her, one hand out behind her to offer his support is she needed, the other out front gesturing for them to move that way. He used the same sort of 'shit eating grin' he used for several situations. To charm people, to be sarcastic, to hide other emotion...
"It's nice to know these things from time to time." He almost had time to get a chuckle out before he saw Garnet again rip out her nine millimeter and point it again behind her. His face went a little slack, his eyes shot open, and his mouth drooped. It was about to be an 'Uh oh' moment.
Here comes... he thought. Surely enough with several deep thuds and the cracking of thick-thick pavement, there they were. He kept the same 'Oh... crap' expression on his face as he stepped backward. They were indeed intimidating, and something that Ryy hadn't expected to see. He's seen some different things in his life as a redpill, but nothing at this scale.
"Oh.... Dear god." he said, though his voice not really sounding worried, more... like he was saying 'lets go, now.'
In his mind, the fight was a bad idea in this location. They were too close to edges where one could easily be tossed by the larger opponents. There were three or four more levels to the parking structure, and Ryy's idea was to move to the first to last one. They didnt have the time to discuss much, as their targets had just landed in front of them.
"Fifth level?" Ryy asked (after noticing that there was a sign noting that this was a 6 level parking garage), whipping out his nickel plated .45 caliber handgun, firing a few pot-shots, and skipping backward a few steps. About fifteen yards behind them was an elevator with stairs wrapping around the elevator column. Stairs were always much better in a chase with someone possibly more skilled. Elevators were a close trap, and dangerous. Stairs- there's at least someplace to run.
A further chase may be a good idea. It would give Ryy and Garnet a chance to think something out rather than blindly going into combat outnumbered. Plus, if they got lucky enough, maybe one of those pot shots could hit something where it hurts.
This was also just a stall, because Bastet should be finding them soon. Even if she isn't a hand to hand expert, she could do something while the four demons were distracted. Sniper fire, automatic rifle, chain gun, rocket propelled grenade, or if worse comes to worse, she could join the melee.

With hardly any time to respond, all Garnet could do was nod her head and break into a run toward the staircase when she heard Ryy suggest the fifth floor of the parking garage. He fired off some rounds which echoed through the cement walls that surrounded them, breaking the momentary silence of nothing more than the dim, yellow florescent lights that flickered throughout the levels. The demon's cries were nothing compared to their deep-throated growls and threatening moaning as they approached.
They seemed to be spreading apart, as if to surround Ryy and Garnet, but as the two made their way toward the stairway, the demonic programs, each easily towering over any man, quickly caught on and tried to round them off, but despite their inhuman speed, they were clearly no match at all for the speeds of both Ryy and Garnet. The biggest advantage these demons had over them, Garnet saw, were their numbers and their clear ability to cooperate together. They were masters of collaborative maneuvers and guiding their targets just where they wanted them. It was because of this fact, that Garnet saw they would need to split them up in order to take them out.
Flying down the stairs and across the fifth floor now, the redhead made her way behind a large black van parked opposite where Ryy was headed. Bringing her gun up and pointing it toward the stairs, the four demons emerged, and she fired, drawing the attention of a couple. The other two seemed to disregard her and headed straight for Ryy. Perfect.
Meanwhile, back in the real world, The Awakening commander, Zen, was just being unplugged by Alec, the hovership's operator. Zen's face was solemn and grim, though more so than usual. As he cracked his neck, a deep gash on his chest revealed itself from below his tattered shirt, the blood already beginning to seep through.
"Morpheus has the Keymaker. They're being pursued on the highway currently," he said in an urgent, yet strangely placid voice.
"Yes," nodded Alec, returning to his station in front of the computer monitors displaying the Matrix rain of code. "So I've seen."
Zen walked over to a first aid kit on a shelf nearby, cleaning his wound serenely. Alec continued to watch the Matrix, literally at the edge of his seat, his eyes scanning rapidly, as if observing multiple events in multiple locations.
"Morpheus can handle the ghost twins," Zen observed, without taking his eyes off the blood he dabbed off his chest. Alec didn't respond. Zen raised a brow curiously, turning to gaze at the back of Alec's dark head. "It's not really them that you're concerned about though. Is it?"
As if to deny this, Alec swung around in his chair, now painfully aware of the whirring buzz of the antigravity thrusters keeping them aloft, annoyed. "What are you implying, Zen?" Alec's face was blank but challenging, his eyes hard.
Zen did not offer a smile but his usual nod, and then turned back to the bandages he was now unwrapping. He was not a man to meddle in the affairs of his crew unless it was necessary. He said nothing more. Alec, sighing, turned back around and continued in his persistent staring into the black and green monitors, frowning. He couldn't be sure, but Zen could have sworn he had heard Alec whisper, "Where is Bastet?"
With a powerful kick, Garnet tossed one of the approaching demons clear across the garage. He landed with a heavy crunch into the metal of a Civic, groaning unpleasantly. The second demon mirrored her, offering her his hoof straight in the face. She dodged this luckily, but was instead given a massive fist in the gut, throwing her upwards and hitting the ceiling, which cracked from the force. Falling back down made her stomach lurch more so than the punch had done though, and she felt like getting sick as she forced herself to stand, just as both demons rounded on her again. She needed to get her distance from them.
Taking a few decently-aimed shots, Garnet slowed them both down for the time being, and hoisted herself up onto the van she was near, then took aim again, pumping more lead into the beasts, which cried out in agony in response. This only seemed to heighten their aggression and anger though, as they both went on opposite sides of the black van, lifting it up off the ground, causing Garnet to slide backwards, and then, with a mighty force, threw it clear across the garage, where it landed sparking and skidding nosily.
Luckily, Garnet had already fallen off, and lay helpless a few feet away from where they stood. Garnet wasted no time and shot mercilessly at the neck of the closest demon, drilling holes all around him until his head was being held up only by a few muscles and his spine. Grimacing, she fired off her last few bullets, and to her satisfaction, his head rolled off from the force of the last bullet, and the creature was dead.
That still left the one that was now picking up a full-sized sedan over his shoulders though...

Re: The Matrix: Jacked In
Glad to see Garnet give him an approving nod, Ryy wasted no time to take flight to the stairs. His black coat trailing behind him as he ran, the black, tubular sword in one hand, his .45 in the other. His eyes narrowed in concentration as he sped himself up, zooming straight past the demons who were attempting to circle them in, and away from the stairs.
Their footsteps echoed off the concrete stairs and throughout the white painted cinderblock walls. You could hear the larger, more dense ones closing in behind them, with a distinct 'clopping' noise from their 'hooves'. Slowing his concentration back to normal, Ryy broke free from the stairwell and into the middle of the exitway, braking right. He took a few long steps, and turned around, short sliding to a halt. First hearing then seeing the gunfire from Garnet gave him an idea.
He raised his .45 and took aim, he took a deep breath watching the second demon arise from the stairwell, and chase after Garnet. Things seemed to slow down around him, as the beasts appeared to now be walking. Right as he saw the next beast pop out from the stairwell, Ryy squeezed the trigger on his handgun three times in quick succession. A few bullets ripped from the barrel, and flew toward the third beast, now looking at Ryy with a particularly aggravated facial expression.
Passing through the air, the bullet then collided with the beast's kneecap, and shin. The third missed completely and struck the exitway's wall. With all the forward moving momentum, the beast's body continued moving, though it's legs stopped due to the .45 hollow point rounds. It fell, arms cycling, landing chin first, and sliding with a sideways awkward roll, all the while making a painful, throaty growl. The final beast continued through the stairwell and barreled after Ryy as if the one before it wasn't even there. Continuing to fire his handgun, bullets splashed against the beast's chest, as if nothing was happening.
-Shit
The final round passed through Ryy's gun, the silver slide locking back. Ryy glanced at it, and haphazardly tossed it aside, turning his body slightly, with barely enough time to sidestep the incoming brute. It came straight for him, shoulder first, and swinging it's arm upward as if going to slam into it's smaller opponent. Ryy, as if commencing this dance, gave two sidesteps while spinning. As he made his first revolution, he noticed the other beast coming his way, angrier than the first.
It gave a sort of superman-style punch, throwing all the momentum from it's movement into the swing, which was easily leaned under. Ryy began his concentration now, as he knew it was going to be fast movement from here out...
The Beasts were bow on both sides of Ryy, though the one to his right was still finishing up it's big swing. He kicked out with his right foot like a twist-kick, to keep pushing the beast on it's way, to throw it off balance. In the same continuing motion, Ryy continued to twist his body, drawing out his shiny blade from the black scabbard, the razor edge pointed outward, the blade close to his body. Swinging out to finish this motion, he swing from left to right with his momentum diagonally, keeping the other demon at bay- who stopped itself from throwing a punch.
Though stopping one fist from coming toward Ryy, the demon then threw it's other one. It caught him right across the right shoulder, sending him tumbling to his left. To help stop him was a nice hard Truck bed, which Ryy indeed dented upon impact. Not having much time to react with an interception, the other beast barreled directly toward Ryy, who was holding his ribcage. Ryy leaped forward, as the beast crashed into the truck, making the small dent even bigger.
In mid lunge forward to dodge the first demon, he swung his blade again with both hands, diagonally upward, intending to cut the demon who was meeting him halfway. The distinct sound of blade meeting hard flesh was the only thing that Ryy reacted on. The slight resistance the demon's flesh provided gave Ryy the mental 'go-ahead' to engage the demon behind him, as the one cut staggered back to put his hand on a thin wound moving from his right hip to his left shoulder.
Turning around on his heel, he swung downward, slicing the advancing demon behind him from shoulder to hip. This was another mental 'go ahead' for him to re-engage the opponent behind him, who was advancing again. Without the reaction time to swing with his blade again, Ryy twisted his lower body around once again, and jumped toward the opponent with a tornado kick, landing just at the demon's right jaw. It sent the demon stumbling backward, bracing itself with an apparently brand new H3.
No full joy, as the demon behind him gave him a nice, swift kick to the back, sending Ryy after the stumbling demon before him.
Fighting for balance, Ryy got a grip on his sword, and jabbed with it straight out. His body stopping as the sword stuck the Demon to the H3's tailgate, right through the right side of the demon's chest. Impaling it, and nailing it to the Hummer. No time to take it in yet, the demon behind him was going to follow through with a haymaker, that Ryy ducked and twisted his body to the right, spinning under the incoming fist, which landed right into- and through the rear window of the rattled H3. IN a blind rage, the Beast pulled his fist out, and began swinging with a wild fury out to Ryy. It was a flurry of something with the strength to dent and easily move a car.
Dodging left, right, bobbing and weaving, and being forced backward, Ryy was beginning to back himself into a wall. A pillar, to be more exact. Pressing up against a hard, metallic surface, Ryy bumped forward, and ducked under the demon's arm that was coming straight for him, passing the demon. The beast's arm kept going, and collided with a fire extinguisher case, bursting the case, as well as the extinguisher, spraying a white-yellow cloud toward it. Ryy used this minor distraction to run back toward the demon, who spun in surprise, covering it's eyes. Ryy stepped up the Demon's left knee with his right foot, then pushed himself up to it's right shoulder with his right foot, where he followed up with a devastating kick, sending the demon backward, bouncing off the concrete pillar, and tumbling down the drive-lane.
Wasting no time, Ryy turned back to look for Garnet, who had literally just blew one of her opponent's heads off...
Ehw the thought flickered, as he sprinted back toward the Demon, wrenching itself free from the H3, sword still impaling it's right chest. Realizing the immediacy of this relationship between him and the angered, bleeding demon, he re-engaged. Though only to be backhanded, sending his forward moving speed to an immediate halt, and redirected the opposite direction, and into the side of a forest green SUV. Breaking through the rear driver's side door, and breaking out the rear passenger side door. Tumbling and spinning, flipping, Ryy slid to a halt, face down.
Attempting to prop himself up, he coughed blood, following up with a spit. Scrunching his face in pain, he managed to get to his knees, where the demon was walking his way, casually. Ryy raised a knee, and was know propping himself up on one knee, and one foot. The demon closed in. Ryy was still in a daze, his eyes coming from a glaze, his ears slightly ringing, jaw slack. The demon stopped just before him, and smiled an evil grin, meaning to say 'Death is here, Mr.Hackett.'.
It raised both it's fists, balling them up, as if they were going to hammer down upon Ryy with all the force of the world. Ryy drooled a bit more red, looking up to the bulbous fists prepared to rain death upon him with lazy, half open eyes. It all felt like slow motion...
No! Not Yet! A flicker in his mind. A bright white light.. . Ryy's eyes burst open.
In fear, Ryy noticed the hilt sticking from it's right chest... With a final burst of Energy, Ryy leapt to his feet, simultaneously ripping the sword from the demon's chest, spinning around, coming back to slice again. The demon inhaled, locking up with brief pain. It watched as Ryy's disheveled hair, and trailing coat spun with his body, and saw a glint of flashing light. The blade of the Katana flickered by, and just under it's eyesight. Ryy had spun and severed the Demon's [assumed] jugular vein. Opening it's mouth with a gurgle, The demon tried to inhale, only to inhale a thick liquid that would pass for blood. It dropped to it's knees, and fell backward in a heavy slump.
Ryy dropped his blade in exhaustion, and then fell to his butt. feet out before him, hands behind him, propping himself up, he tried to catch his breath. He was able to deflect, and look beyond some forms of pain. Minor bullet wounds, shallow lacerations, bruising, and some bone fracturing, the heavy hit he took felt like a cannonball crashing into his mid chest. He began to space out a little.
Ha ha ha... You're not even breathing air! He thought, a flicker of memory of Venus, his martial arts trainer on The Colossus, sitting in a dojo, laying on his back, spread eagle. Her face appeared over his, and she gave a bright white smile....
He shook off the black-out he was about to have, and he noticed his head was bobbing. He attempted to push himself back to his feet with a grunt.
Their footsteps echoed off the concrete stairs and throughout the white painted cinderblock walls. You could hear the larger, more dense ones closing in behind them, with a distinct 'clopping' noise from their 'hooves'.

Re: The Matrix: Jacked In
Alec cursed furiously under his breath, peeling his eyes away from the screens before him. The sight that greeted him off to his side though was no better. The motionless bodies of two of of the crew -- Garnet and Ryy -- lay in their chairs helpless, bloody and bruised. Alec forced his eyes shut to close them out, but now their images were burned into his mind. Ryy was a mess. Garnet wasn't looking much better. They shouldn't have had to take them all on alone, Alec thought inwardly, though the commander of The Awakening seemed as if he could almost hear his thoughts.
"Ryy, Garnet, Bastet, Aiden, and Eva should have been more than enough for Merovingian's company. If I'd have known it would only have been Ryy and Garnet that were facing these programs, I'd have remained in the Matrix myself." Zen's voice was stern and almost accusing.
The operator sat motionless in his chair, anger boiling. "They're on their way...like I said."
Get out of the way! Garnet screamed to herself in her mind, her eyes wide, taking in the scene before her.
The second and now only remaining demon she was dealing with brought the car he had lifted up with his bare hands back behind his head and was preparing to toss it right at her where she still sat, her empty gun clutched tightly in her hand. With one great heave, the vehicle flew through the air. Garnet saw it as if it was both terribly sped up and yet in very slow motion. She had to escape. She had to do something, lest she be crushed instantly.
Then, in the next moment, all Garnet could hear was metal on pavement as the car flew out of the wall opening leading outside and landed somewhere on the streets below. People screamed out, shrieking it terror and surprise. The sound of a collision and the incessant honking of a car below rang out. And yet, Garnet was not down there with them. She had not moved. How had the car missed her completely? Looking down, her question was answered.
Though she had only ever attempted it a few other times in the past, and then only changing a few physical characteristics, such as her hair or body type, she had now succeeded in altering her residual image into that of a mouse, a tiny, furry, long-eared critter whose tail waved playfully behind her. Normally, such a feat would have been worthy of celebration, but perhaps it was only Garnet's fear and cowardice that allowed her to transform into a mouse. In either case, the demon seemed to have completely missed that the mouse was her and was now mindlessly marching off toward the very brutally injured Ryy from across the garage, who sat looking as if he were about to pass out, oblivious for a few lingering moments to the incoming threat.
To Garnet's surprise though, he somehow managed to get back up onto his own two feet, but she knew that he was not in any condition to do any more fighting. Garnet herself was feeling rather sore and tired, and without any more guns or ammunition, she would be absolutely no match herself. Scampering off toward Ryy, Garnet tried to yell at him, screaming his name, hoping to catch his attention. Instead, her words came out in very small squeaks and squeals. If she could have blushed, she would have. Knowing full well this could not do, the young woman quickly made her way behind the SUV next to her and concentrated very hard for a few moments. She had to return her appearance to normal. Her thoughts vaguely crossed over Alec, however, and she could only picture him sitting there in his chair on The Awakening back in the real world, laughing at her. (Little did she know, he was not in the mood to be laughing, and was instead in a silent sort of awed horror as he watched.) She was humiliated. Changing one's residual image, though certainly not unheard of, was something she was very proud she was able to do, and turning herself into an animal was something that she had longed to achieve, but not like this. And why did it have to be a mouse? Frowning, she returned her thoughts to Ryy in the here-and-now. She had to protect him...somehow.
In the next moment, Garnet was standing up, completely back to her usual residual image, and was headed for Ryy's side, her expression so jumbled with emotion -- fear, mortification, sympathy, urgency, uncertainty -- that it was almost unreadable.
"Ryy," she said now in her own voice, though that was all she had time to say, for the demon was upon them.
"Stop!" cried Garnet, holding up her hands, as if it could shield them.
In that moment, Garnet had -- knowingly or unknowingly -- hacked the Matrix by uploading a virus into the last remaining demon program before them. Weak as it was, and although it did not seem to cause him any real pain, it did have the affect of slowing the creature down greatly. Rather than sprinting at them, his cloven feet clomping down hard, he was now walking in their direction, almost like a zombie, though his expression was beyond rage.
She turned back to Ryy, eyes wide, scanning over his badly hurt body, and offering him a shoulder to lean on. "We need to get out of here."

Re: The Matrix: Jacked In
Standing, arms slack, ears slightly ringing, and eyes a little glossy, Ryy nodded to Garnet. To him, it seemed that Garnet had appeared out of nowhere. He wanted to say something, but really couldn't put the words together. . . He just got slammed through an SUV. Ryy actually wanted to say a lot of things. 'Good timing!', 'Aww, i wanted to take it!', or a 'Ha ha ha, I kicked two demons' asses! Hell can't even kill me now!'. Though none of it would come out. Just a nod, and he threw his arm around Garnet's shoulder. Which probably hurt him more, as his chest and back hurt worse than anything on his lower body.
His eyes searched the Demon wildly for a moment, watching it like his concentration and reflexes were jacked up... But- no.. they weren't. Had Garnet caused this?
Tha'ts not going to last forever.. that's not going to last forever, that's not going to alst forever! Kept repeating through Ryy's mind, but he couldn't find the mental willpower at the second to put himself into overdrive again to walk away quickly enough...
It was moving slow before them, a ramp behind it quite a ways and to it's left, the team's right. Behind them quite a ways was an SUV door, plenty of shattered glass, a busted up H3 with a dead demon laying by it, a handfull of other cars, a damaged support pillar covered in the residue of a broken fire extinguisher... Then all the way at the edge was an unconscious demon leaning against the concrete half wall.
Ryy turned, looking for an exit... "Stairs?" he asked Garnet.
Though behind them the demon was beginning to speed up... with every step. It was as if the demon were thawing itself. It made it to almost a trot, to where it was two arm lengths away, It's eyes flared, as it reared it's arm back for a powerful swipe. A step more would put him in range. It let out a growl as it was in mid step.
Though out of the corner of their eye, a black flash, and over top the demon growling, the lights buzzing, and the demon's hooves clopping against the cement ground, was the sound of an engine. Just as it was heard, a large black SUV came like a lightning fast bulldozer. It plowed into the demon's left side, denting the grill and front bumper, and sending the demon's body flipping and tumbling out of the way. The passenger door flung open, revealing the face of an ecstatic blond female.
Ryy could do nothing by cover his face with his free arm, and turn his head. After the crash, he turned his head back quickly.
The familiar sleek, low profile silver reflective glasses were familiar...
"Get in. Now." She said, sounding like she was in a hurry. It was a young sounding voice still. She even looked younger than she was.
"Holy shit Bast where've you been?!" Ryy asked, worried- as compared to frustrated, impatient and angry. Even through his pain he was more worried about her at the moment.
"Come on come on!" She pleaded, patting on her steering wheel with her left hand, leaning over to the passenger seat, bracing herself with her right hand in the middle of the seat. Her glasses slid down, and she looked at Ryy and Garnet... No... past them. Her already big blue eyes widened."Shit get your head down!"
First off, Bastet rarely ever swears. So when she does, it definitely means she's being adamant about something. Though, whether or not Garnet knew this yet or not didn't really matter, as Bastet's reaction should speak for itself. With her left hand, she ripped an MP9 from between her seat and the console, and pointed it straight out the opened passenger door. Fire spit from the end of the barrel for a good few seconds, spilling brass shells all over the black interior of the passenger seat.
"Oh F-" Ryy's voice was cut off by the sound of the small submachinegun firing, as Ryy Covered the top of his head with his free arm. Apparently the previously unconscious demon regained consciousness and started to slowly sneak toward Garnet and Ryy from behind. All 30 bullets from the nine millimeter hit the demon in the chest and shoulders, splattering and staggering it backwards, where it then dropped to its knees, then fell completely forward.
Bast ditched the gun to the floorboard in the passenger seat. "Come one guys!" She seemed to be in a hurry... But the Merovingian brutes were down for now... what was she afraid of?

Re: The Matrix: Jacked In
Cringing at the damage they had each caused in the parking garage, Garnet's golfball-sized eyes reflected the destruction. Blood dotted the scene around them, both from the demons and the two of them, splattered like spilt paint, while glass from the shattered car windows littered the floor, crunching beneath their feet as they made their way toward the stairs. It was then that Garnet realized just how hot and stuffy it was, which surprised her, being that it was such an open building. The pain throughout her body also could not be ignored any longer, and she realized that she had managed to twist her ankle after falling off the SUV and shape shifting. The once proud pillars helping to support the level were now cracked and falling apart, rubble everywhere. Soon, no doubt, the police would arrive on the scene, and they would be closely followed by Agents, if the Agents weren't already on their way.
A wave of panic and alarm overcame the redheaded woman as she turned around to see the last remaining demon start to speed up, the sound of his hooves clopping on the ground quickening. He, soon, would not be their only threat. As they ran, the demon gained on them more and more, and he was almost near enough to swipe at them.
As if in response, the sound of a powerful engine could be heard echoing through the garage, tires screeching with each turn it took, making its way up and up, until it emerged on their level just before them. The driver must have had their foot floored, and they ran dead into the demon's side, driving the repulsing creature back and out of the way. Out of surprise and shock, her nerves already on end, Garnet had screamed on the impact, hearing the crunch of the bumper and the grill. She had ducked, but both her and Ryy were safe. The door to the black SUV that had arrived flew open, and a familiar face of a blonde-hair woman greeted them.
"Get in. Now," she had ordered. It was Bastet, the woman from the same previous hovership as Ryy.
Ryy and Garnet stood there for a few moments, stunned. Bastet had pleaded with them once more to join her in the vehicle before she yelled at them to get down. Garnet didn't need telling twice and dropped to the cold floor. It felt slightly refreshing. Bastet began firing loud shots out the open passenger door. Her hands over her head, Garnet managed to peek over her shoulder at the demon, who had apparently gotten up and was headed there way. He now stumbled back, dozens of bullets having made direct contact, and then fell forward.
Breathing heavily, Garnet's eyes narrowed, her heart pounding. Her eyes stung and her body was screaming to lie down and rest, so she could only imagine how Ryy was feeling after his fight. She looked over his way, eyes searching him for a split moment, then darted toward the back of the SUV, slamming the door behind her.
"What's up? What's going on?" questioned Garnet, dreading the answer.
Bastet was still in a clear hurry, despite all the demons having been defeated. That could only mean more trouble, and they were not in any shape to be doing any more serious fighting. They'd need to find a hardline. Commander Zen would be waiting for them, most likely. So is Alec, Garnet thought vaguely.
"Let's get out of here!"

Re: The Matrix: Jacked In
"Nice job, dumb ass." Aiden cringed at the words, but said nothing in reply over the headset, though he knew damn well that she knew he heard her. The problem was, Eva was right - and there was nothing in him that would make excuses for his mistake. It was enough that his partner knew, and that precious, irretrievable seconds were ticking past while the crew was fighting for their lives. He simply gunned the motorcycle, weaving in and out of traffic at Eva's side as if they were on an open highway.
Which, in the most "real" sense, they were.
Eva said nothing more, hazel eyes narrowing beneath the yellowed sunglasses as she concentrated on the fastest route to Ryy, Garnet and Bastet. Nor would she have to say anything more to him - this would never happen again. She did not have to question how she could possibly know these things between them - she simply did, and always had. Almost from day one, their partnership had always been so. Eva never questioned the complete trust, nor did he. And the brutal honesty? She shrugged almost imperceptibly to herself. As if Aiden would have it any other way – or be any more forgiving of her screw ups, than she was of his.
Aiden took a deep breath , or rather, at least the proverbial equivalent here inside – and tried to shake it all off. He had been wrong, his senses off for some reason or other he could not even begin to imagine. It had never happened before – he just didn’t know how it could possibly have happened. He was so far off – so very far off. He’d have to talk to Alec, find out what he saw, what he knew, how in the hell –
Screw it. Enough already. They were here, now, and… oh damn…
Eva pushed her glasses back on her head, raising one perfectly formed eyebrow as she let the Ninja – the twin to Aiden’s own bike - coast through the wreckage of the garage’s fifth floor. The destruction was quite impressive, really – structural damage and, ah nice… at least three dead demons she could see. As her eyes scanned the scene though, she found just the sight she had been looking for, and dreading. Thankfully it seemed Garnet and Ryy were all right, if banged up. Bastet was behind the wheel – she could only assume they were ready to move out, and fast. The cops should be here at any time, and Agents and whatever the hell else - though oddly enough, she didn’t remember seeing or hearing anything on the approach here. Strange. Eva did not like strange...
What the hell was going on? First Aiden, now… Eva growled a little in frustration as she pulled up quickly next to the driver’s side of the SUV, a quick nod for Bast all the indication she needed that now at least, their escort was here, and ready to move out when she was.

Re: The Matrix: Jacked In
Bastet just looked back to Garnet as she was being asked what was going on. She was watching and waiting until the door behind her shut. Ryy hobbled into the passenger seat, and thudded against the back, sliding to a slouch, his right hand moving to cover and support his ribs. He sighed, a loud exhale as he gave a look to Bastet, wondering the same thing. In the same motion, he had made sure his coat was out of the way, and shut the door with a quick slam.
Despite still being in shock and awe that Bastet seemed to come at just the right time, Ryy was also curious about why she was so spooked.
"Yea what's up?" He asked, his voice grasping out for more energy. His eyes looking to Bastet for some sort of clue, or answer. Not seeing anything, he then looked down at his chest. He lifted up his right hand, vaguely inspecting his ribs almost as if he could tell what was up even through his shirt.
"Hang on a sec-" Bast replied to both, rolling down her tinted window to give a quick nod, and "Hardline" to Eva. She heard the two approach on their bikes, and was getting antsy waiting, her eyes darting, and tapping her hand on the steering wheel. Bast wanted to gun the gas and get back to the hardline so they could jack out, and debrief. Their mission was an apparent success so far. They were to hold off the tracking of the keymaker by this specific team of Merovingian brutes. They've disabled, and at least seemingly killed most of them.
Accelerating, Bast rolled up her window as the large black SUV did a tight u-turn and started going back down the ramp, heading to ground level. Despite the vehicle's large size, Bastet seemed to pilot the vehicle flawlessly. It was almost sort of comical, her smaller petite figure driving this large masculine vehicle with the prowess of a professional driver. The wheels didn't screech as much as they did when she was entering, but she made sure to be quick about their exit.
Taking a look at Garnet through her rear view, and then a look over Ryy- she was trying to make sure everything was okay between them, no major- or life threatening injuries. By the looks of it, they both were probably going to need some attention- though she had certainly seen worse.
I really need to learn to heal... She though, taking a breath before she started to explain. Exhaling through her lips, she seemed to feel less stressed.
"Okay. Here's the short version," Bast started, looking left as she was coming to the parking lot's exit, slowing to a 'hollywood' stop, before hitting the gas once again. "I was on the highway keeping track of the movement of the other teams, Neo, Keymaker, Niobe and Ghost." She gave a short pause to look into her rear view, and take another right at a smaller intersection, the light had just turned green as she arrived to it. "I caught wind of some Agents who crashed into some orange barrels at my exit, and they certainly caught wind of me." Her voice seemed to slightly elevate, and her speech pattern started to speed up. "I don't know how- i didn't really look too hard, and my windows and everything were up." She again looked into the rear view mirror, to make sure no one was behind her. Nothing but a smaller gold sedan. "But they were able to get back on the road, and chase me down. I don't think I've ever driven so madly while in the Matrix. Just kept signaling and turning the opposite way, taking little unseen 'detours' and all that. Typical tail- losing techniques. But right as I thought i lost them, i caught word that you guys were close by, and about to make contact. So i started my way here, but the Agents found me again. I'm just lucky they were on foot." She said, spinning the wheel left, hand over hand.
"Some 'short' version." Ryy just looked over to her, snorting. "Calm down, just concentrate on getting us to the Hardline." His voice a smooth tone, that same crooked smile he used while trying to charm someone. Thought he wasn't in much position to do so, his concern wasn't placed on himself. He then squirmed to his left side, and looked back to Garnet, a more mischievous smile spilling across his face.
"Gotta admit though, we kicked ass."
Re: The Matrix: Jacked In
Garnet was relived to see Eva and Aiden roll up on their bikes. From a quick observation, they both appeared to be fine, too. Bastet waited for them to join them in the large SUV, though it was clear she was growing increasingly anxious and was ready to take off at any moment. The air was strangely heavy and thick with worry, and it was causing Garnet's stomach to turn over uneasily. Her expression remained focused and undaunted though.
"You guys okay?" she asked Aiden and Eva with a questioning look as they stepped into the back with her.
As soon as everyone was safely inside, Bastet took off, maneuvering down and out of the parking garage with uncanny ease. It was then that she began to explain her reasoning for showing up a bit late. When Agents were mentioned, Garnet exchanged nervous glances with Aiden and Eva next to her. She knew that they'd have to find a hardline soon, if Agents had been trailing Bastet. No wonder she was in such a hurry.
Ryy turned around wearing a rather mischievous smile that caught Garnet's attention. Before she even heard what he had to say, a smile was already spreading across her lips as if it were contagious.
"Gotta admit though, we kicked ass."
She laughed, blushing slightly. She was reminded of her sudden and unexpected transformation that helped her avoid being thrown and smashed from the SUV she had been standing on. She hadn't decided whether or not that was a good thing she had accomplished or an embarrassing one, so she decided it best to just stay quiet about it, as it appeared Ryy was too busy with his own fight to notice.
"Yeah, we sure did," Garnet agreed, still smiling, despite the knot in her stomach as Bastet sped off. "You were really something," she noted, she voice sounding more surprised than she had meant for. "I was impressed!"
It was then that Garnet turned her attention to Ryy's wounds. She possessed a number of interesting skills here inside the Matrix, but the only one she truly had mastered was here telepathy. However, in her arsenal was also a basic knowledge of healing. It would not save a person from the brink of death, nor would it mend a detached limb or heal a deep gash, for that matter, but it was handy for healing the minor injuries one would sustain from combat.
"Let me see your shoulder," she started, looking over at Ryy's left shoulder blade peeking over the seat he was sitting against. "Tell me if this works." She glanced up at him, uncertain, but her eyes betrayed her doubtful disposition. They were alive with fire and determination, the same flame that made Garnet a true Ares.
Placing a hand over the gouge on his shoulder and closing her eyes, she concentrated for a moment, trying to block out the swaying of the vehicle, the thoughts of Agents behind them, and her own insecurities. It was only a simple matter of hacking the Matrix. Nothing here was real, not even the black SUV they were supposedly sitting in. They, themselves, were only figments of their true selves. Therefore, altering their residual images and removing injuries that weren't truly there was possible. After another few moments, Garnet lifted her hand and opened her eyes. To her relief, the wound appeared to be gone.
"How's that? Okay?"
Garnet looked down at her own body. She had a number or nicks and scratches, some more bloody than others, but all-in-all, she wasn't as bad as she could have been. All the same, she performed the same healing technique on one of her larger injuries that she had done for Ryy. The sensation was incredible. The pain was suddenly gone, and it was replaced with a short tingling feeling before returning back to normal. She smiled.
