OOC Immortal Vindication Empty OOC Immortal Vindication

Post by Fate Flyer Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:56 pm

Synopsis

The year is 2210, two hundred years into the future. Until the mid 22nd century, governments and ordinary people alike around the world denied the existence of vampires, werewolves, and “creatures of the night.” Though, admittedly, their numbers diminished greatly around the industrial revolution, and both species nearly went extinct in the twentieth century, these ancient beings have been steadily repopulating the world since then.

Feuds over territory and otherwise bad blood between the two species caused the infamous war with one another thousands of years ago, when they reigned over much of the world openly. Remnants of this ongoing strife still exist to this day, though much of the reasoning behind it has been long forgotten. Vampire clans formed to counter the powerful lycanthrope packs spreading exponentially. Soon, it was impossible for governments to deny or hide the truth of these feared creatures, as sightings were becoming a regular occurrence, and gruesome maulings or neck bites were steadily getting to be all-too-common causes of death.

In 2145, the President of the United States made a public announcement concerning not only the existence of vampires and lycans (as they had come to be called), but the worldwide threat they presented. To combat these hostile rivaling creatures, which the ordinary man all too often became a casualty to or otherwise was forced to join one of the two sides, top engineers and scientists from all around the world cooperating together, completely funded by their countries, worked to build some of the most technologically impressive robots the world has seen. Considering the amount of androids and bots working and coexisting with humanity today and in constant production, being manufactured in over 50 countries, these new automatons are viewed as nothing less than the future of robotic technology. Programmed to respond directly to the ever-growing vampire and lycan menace, these formidable, brutal, and merciless humanoid automatons have but one mission: purge the world of any threat of vampires and lycans.

Much to the horror and surprise of humanity, over the years these robotic half-breed hunters have been released on their annihilation operation, they, being the greatest pieces of technology, have “evolved,” in a sense, to extend their function beyond their given implication. Able to problem solve as a basic form of their intellect, these automatons, soon referred to simply as “Night Soldiers,” came to the principal conclusion that, in order to prevent vampires or lycans from ever existing and spreading across the Earth, human beings must be completely wiped from the planet. Logically and realistically, this is the most sure-fire way the Soldiers realized they could carry out their programming to full completion. Thus began the long-anticipated cybernetic/organic war known as The War Against Night. Not only were vampires and lycans being hunted by the ruthless Night Soldiers, but now everyday people, civilians and the military alike, were all being targeted and attacked. A blood bath quickly flooded the nations, as more and more automatons wirelessly spread their logical and extinction-inevitable idea. Humanity had created their greatest and most powerful weapon in history, and now it had turned against them.

It very rapidly became clear that vampires and lycans would need to set aside whatever petty differences they had in order to concentrate on combating the Night Soldiers. Once the Night Soldiers turned against people though, it was almost comical and ironic at first, until years of their bloody slaughtering carried on, and vampires and lycans were forced to witness the deaths of people that they never imagined being killed, even by their own kind – family, friends, loved ones, children… No longer were they even able to sit by and mock the humans for the problem they themselves were responsible for. It was becoming ever clearer that, if something weren’t done soon, all human life would be wiped from the Earth in a matter of time.

Deciding it wise to put aside their pride and their hatred, the lycans and vampires stood against the Night Soldiers as humanity’s best line of defense. Today, in 2210, all satire aside, vampires, lycans, and humans all must work together if they want to stand any chance against the greatest threat that they have ever had to face.

Vampire & Lycan Age Hierarchy

    Adolescent (0-5 years)
    Youth (6-20 years)
    Adult (21-70 years)
    Mature (71-150 years)
    Elder (151-500 years)
    Ancient (501 years and up)

Vampires

The first original vampire, infamously known as Dracula, was bitten by a vampire bat which sucked his blood as he slept. When the Count awoke the next morning, he had come to find out that the wound the vampire bat left grew infected and began mutating him. He soon hungered for blood and only blood, and those he bit that he did not drain completely turned into blood-fiends like himself. Within time, vampires began to spread.

Vampires are defined as humans that have had their necks bitten and their blood drained, only to be transformed into the very creature that bit them (if they survive the process). They look identical to humans, aside from their sharp and pointy fangs.

In contrast to common belief, garlic does not ward off vampires. This is an old wives tale. (Rather, there was a single case in eastern Europe in the eighteenth century where a maidservant had been disposing of old, uneaten food, and mixed in with these scraps was a large amount of old garlic. A vampire had seen her, alone and unprotected, as he prowled the alleyways at night, but as he attempted to approach her to feed from the servant, the immense foul stench of the garlic warded him off.) Other inaccurate legends surrounding vampires include being undead, as all vampires are truly alive, but simply do not have the same instincts or needs as other living creatures. They also are quite unable to transform into bats. Vampires are immortal, meaning they cannot age or die of old age, but they can be killed. A wooden stake to the heart has proven to do the trick. Additionally, they are able to see their reflections in mirrors, but because mirrors often reflect light, and vampires are harmed by sunlight, mirrors are typically seen as hazardous to have, especially as large wall-pieces. As stated, vampires and sunlight do not mix. Indirect sunlight, such as filtered sunlight, can be harmful, creating almost instant sunburns. Direct sunlight can be lethal. Because of a fatal flaw in their mutation, which has affected all their organs, including of course their skin, all vampires are strictly allergic to UV light. Crosses and other such religious artifacts have no affect against vampires, but a beheading or otherwise slicing up of the entire body will result in permanent death.

Vampires that have lived for many hundreds of years, if not thousands, are referred to as ancients. They are the most feared, as they are the most powerful and the most evolved. Their mutation, which causes them to evolve at a much more radical pace, can change these vampires drastically enough to be hardly even recognizable to how they once had been as humans. Most ancients possess leathery wings for flight, and many also have claw-like hands and feet. They commonly also possess athletic, natural muscles, which provides them with extra strength, though they are almost always fit and lightweight for agility and nimbleness, which they are best known for. Some develop visible, pulsing veins throughout their bodies, long, pointy ears for better hearing, and large pupils for night-hunting ease.

Werewolves/Lycanthropes

The initial lycan was created when a rabid lone wolf, driven mad by its disease and starvation, attacked a villager in northern Europe during a full moon. The man collapsed, nearly having been killed by the mauling, but when he awoke, he was no longer himself, in body or in mind. He had become part man, part wolf, operating only on instinct and a powerful desire to hunt. Whenever he attacked a person and left them alive, they too would become infected with the condition, and so the trend would carry on.

Newly created lycans are only able to transform under a full moon, and they lose all their rational thoughts and their human mind and become a pure wolf. They are not in any form of control. As lycans age however, they eventually learn to adapt and adjust to their transformations. Around the time they become ‘adults,’ they are able to fully control when and where they transform, and they also have some degree of control over themselves, if not full control. Aged lycans never lose their human minds when under transformation and can even change into their wolf forms much more quickly and painlessly.

Like vampires, they are much more powerful than humans, but lycans are strong only when they are transformed. There are pros and cons to lycans, in that, when transformed, they are typically much more powerful than vampires, but they are far slower and less agile, and once again, they are only strong when in their wolf forms, whereas vampires are powerful and possess all their improved senses at all times. Additionally, lycans are deathly allergic to silver. Ingesting silver or having silver penetrate the body in any way will cause a lycan, whether transformed or not, to eventually die if the silver is not removed in time. Simply touching silver can cause serious rashes.

Lycans, like vampires, are immortal, meaning they cannot age or die of old age, but they still can be killed by selective means. Silver, as mentioned, is one way of killing a lycan. Beheading is another, as is the complete dismemberment of limbs and body parts. Religious artifacts hold no power over lycans, but the cry of a fellow lycan will beckon other lycans, whether they belong to the same pack or not. Being social creatures, lycans depend and rely heavily on each other, and it is in their instincts to protect one another. Therefore, it isn’t at all uncommon for men to have captured and wounded a lycan and left it chained and in agony as bait to lure in more of its kind to slay.

Ancient lycans, not unlike ancient vampires, usually evolve to appear much different than their original human selves. In their human forms, their eyes may look more like wolf eyes, if they’re male, they may grow more hair, their ears may grow pointier, and their nails become hard and tend to grow faster to resemble claws. In their wolf forms, other variations can be seen. They are much larger and far more muscular than they appeared as an adolescent wolf. Some select ancients even look entirely like a massive wolf rather than a half-wolf, half-human, walking completely on all fours and boasting a tail, unlike regular transformed lycans.

Joining and Other Information

If you would like to join, simply reply here and either post your character's description(s) or link to them in your Archive thread. There isn't going to be a limit to how many people can join this RP, as I've had great luck in the past with large role-plays. The werewolves and vampires in this role-play are my own interpretation and may vary from how you could depict them. Please be aware of the differences. You can role-play as vampires, lycans, humans (fodder, slayers, cops, etc?), or even one of the automatons (Night Soldiers). You can role-play as many characters as you want/can handle. The main setting will take place in Phoenix, Arizona.

This looks like it will be a fine twist on the genre. I would like to join as a lycan. Is there any format you would like the character skeleton in?

Thanks, Hermes. :] I sure hope so!

Awesome, sounds good. Nope, not really. If you could include what "age" they are, in relation to how long they've been a lycan, that would be helpful. Otherwise, feel free to make their profile how you like!

Name: Hank Stold
Race: Human
Age: 43
Family: None, divorced for thirteen years, hasn't seen his wife or daughter in ten (they never lived in Phoenix).
Race/Ethnicity: Caucasian-Hispanic mix.

Description:
Hank is five six, and looks like any man who's fallen out of the habit of taking care of himself. His hair is balding, he's portly, but not pudgy. He has a bristly and graying mustache, his hair is black and his eyes are brown. Those eyes are unmotivated glass windows, looked through and never actually looked into. He has an art major, but obvious disappoints left him without a professional career. He used to work for a copper mining company, taking the extra effort to drive a hundred miles out of the city just to keep a job, but recently the mine closed in light of the encroaching conflict. He lives in a tenement apartment and is a heavy drinker and has the halitosis to prove it.

Bio: Hank grew up in California, after high school he served in the Navy for four years, working as a submarine mechanic. After his service the Navy paid for his college tuition and he got his major in art at Berkley. There he met his wife, Lilian, who was studying to be clinical psychologist for victims of violent crimes (something that scarred her family). Their daughter, Judith came of the union. However, after five years of marriage Lilian became fed up with Hank's inability to support himself. She left him and took their daughter and left San Fransisco to move up to Seattle to live with Lilian's mother.

Here's a character sheet for my first character. I'd like to throw my hat into the ring, if I may. Since no one else has made one, my next character sheet will be for a vampire. I hope this is a enough for now.

Also, for the vampires, are they mutated in the traditional biting the neck sense? Because for my vampire character I was thinking of sexual promiscuity being the reason she became a one.

Great first character description, Harper! I added your character to the list. (Poor guy.)

Oh, and to answer your question - yes, vampires are turned in the very traditional sense (neck biting, though technically a bit anywhere can turn an ordinary human into a vamp). I like that idea. :]

You are certainly welcome to join us, YenWen, as whatever you like!

Name: Dursk Elaine
Race: Vampire
Age: Appears 22, truly 102 years old
Family: None living, his only companion is his recent consort, Judith Stold.
Race/Ethnicity: African American

Description: Dursk oozes an ugly self-assurance and sexual confidence. He keeps his hair in short braids and has the build of a basketball star. At six five, he makes an imposing and impressive figure. He dresses in light clothing and has all the charm of a young college star athlete. He likes to smile a big smug grin, and feels he deserves his spot on top of the world. Rarely is he humbled, and rather than learn a lesson he instead becomes resentful. He's not a powerful vampire, or a smart one, but he doesn't need to be, and the inner circles like his tenacity and determination.

Bio:
Eighty years ago Dursk walked home at the dead of night and found a woman leaning against a streetlamp. It was summer, and the white redhead wore an ungodly amount of dark clothing. Dursk, dressed and armed in gym shorts and muscle t-shirt, never stood a chance. The next seventy-six years proved to be a blur. Dursk never understood much of what went on, he preferred to view it as his coaches ordering him to practice a play. He worked and worked, hopping from mission to mission for sixty years (the first sixteen were chaos) and pleasing himself with whatever woman he found. He loved it, and never bothered to stay in one place. He never noticed hunters, lycans, or Night Soldiers, just the next kill and the next woman.

Four years ago he spotted Judith on a Seattle sidewalk. Dursk approached her, talked to her, and after a week of caoxing, seduced the seventeen year old and stole the flower of her virginity. He was so pleased with her that he bit her and made her his consort. She travels with him now, and has been a vampire ever since.

Just as a side note, Judith is an NPC. She must obey Dursk, but she isn't a character I will warrant strict control over. Sorry if this one seems a bit more rushed, and no I wasn't trying to be racist, just trying to create an opposite for my Hank Stold.

I'm ready for this RP whenever you guys are. Is there an ETA on when we'll get started? (I know not anytime soon, considering not everyone's joined the RP yet, just curious)

OOC Immortal Vindication Empty Re: OOC Immortal Vindication

Post by quakernuts Tue Jul 27, 2010 10:33 pm

Name: Jarrod Brink
Race: Human
Age: 36
Family: None
Ethnicity: Caucasian

Description: Jarrod stands at an intimidating 6’5, and weighing in around 300 lbs. His entire body is a well built and maintained killing machine. His brown hair is often messy, and blocks his vision from time to time. Scars line his calloused face, including one above the right eyebrow, and one across his lip. His eyes are a deep shade of green, and hold an almost animalistic sense of intelligence and determination. Tattoos cover his entire body, and the sight of plain flesh is simply not present save for his face. Demon wings cover his back from shoulder to shoulder, and down to the small of his back. The right arm is a viper curling around his arm, ending with the head snarling at his fist. His right arm is a mixture of different weapons, from axes to automatic weapons. There is no sense to these tattoos on his left arm, other than they cover the entirety of his limb. On his chest is a giant Cross decorated in an unearthly glow. His legs are a mixture of sayings, and symbols that are lost on anyone but him. Jarrod is huge, intimidating, and a force to be reckoned with, despite his status as a regular human.

Bio: During his first few years of life, Jarrod grew up in the middle class of New York. His mother and father worked very hard at their jobs to bring in just enough to keep them from entering the slum side of the city. Jarrod had a happy childhood, and was constantly out playing with his friends either at his house, or theirs. He had high grades, and a decent amount of friends. To say the least, this bit of information was a surprise to those who were reading his profile at the time of his sentencing.

At the age of twelve, Jarrod’s life fell apart. His father was killed in a drive by shooting on a gas station. His father was nothing more than an innocent bystander who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Finding out what happened nearly ten minutes later, Jarrod arrived to find that the police were not going to further the investigation. They were ‘spread too thin’ or some bullshit like that. Jarrod’s mother couldn’t handle the fact that not only was her husband dead, but nothing would be done about it. She committed suicide two years later, leaving Jarrod in the hands of foster parents at the age of fourteen. His life simply spiraled from this point forward.

Jarrod didn’t want to remember anything about his previous life, and took on a new persona to deal with the problem. He became increasingly violent, to the point of near murder at his high school. Body building became an obsession, and friends became non-existent. He alienated himself from everyone and everything, and at the age of nineteen, was on his own. He didn’t even bother telling his adopted parents he was leaving, he simply packed his things, and ditched the house without any further words.

His life from that point on was the nightmare of parents. Jarrod took to the streets, joining gangs, ending gangs, drug deals, grand theft auto, vandalism, extortion, armed robbery, murder, the list goes on. By the time that Jarrod had reached the age of thirty, he was quite literally, one of the most wanted men in New York City. He was the pinnacle of evil in the city, and he always used the situation of his father as an excuse to do what he did.

Jarrod was finally apprehended, mainly by luck than skill. During a car chase, a semi carrying pallets of construction supplies flipped and blocked Jarrod from any further exit. Knowing that he was caught, Jarrod offered no resistance to the numerous authorities who had been chasing him.

At his hearing, many lawyers refused to defend him, deeming him beyond redemption, but finally after many long searches, his lawyer was found. The court case was one of the most legendary in legal history. It was one of the only cases since Saddam Hussein where the Death Sentence was re-instated to deal with Jarrod. Cries of joy were heard throughout the streets, as finally a terror of the streets would no longer be able to damage their lives. As soon as the sentencing was heard, reporters rushed Jarrod for questioning, where he stopped to make a slight speech to the people of New York.

“You cheer for my death, yet you do not understand me. I chose to make a life of my own, while all of you others decided to follow the flow and lose your own minds. I rose up against those who wronged me, and I feel no remorse for it. Killing me will not end the crime that curses these streets, nor will anything ever will. Human nature is incurable, but I chose my own life. I chose my decisions, and for that, I am better than all of you.”

Jarrod was put on a waiting list of two years to reach the gallows. Why, you may ask. It was simple. Jarrod was no longer around to frighten the criminal underground from acting, and a rush of criminal activity took to the streets. Suddenly, the NYPD was simply too busy to deal with Jarrod. It wasn’t until the shit hit the fan that they actually forgot about him.

Suddenly, the government was acknowledging the presence of Vampires and Lycans. They also announced that they had a plan to deal with the threat. Jarrod had been completely forgotten by this point, and was rotting in Alcatraz Prison. He managed to hear about this situation, but didn’t care about what happened beyond the walls of his new home. He had warned them that crime wouldn’t stop, and they didn’t listen to him. Now the supernatural were real, and everything was going to get a lot worse.

The reveal of the Night Soldiers only made Jarrod feel a deep sense of foreboding. Humanity was leaving its hopes and dreams in the hands of machines. Things like this never ended well. Sure enough, Jarrod was soon privy to information that made it clear that the Night Soldiers were now slaughtering absolutely everything in their path. Just a few months later, the military entered Alcatraz. They had one purpose behind their actions; to conscript the convicts.

Seeing a way out of death row, and into supposed freedom, Jarrod agreed. He was conscripted into the army, and was off to fight the nightmarish creation of the human race. Secretly though, Jarrod is only in the military to gain his freedom. He doesn’t care what happens to the human race as a whole, deeming them beyond redemption. He never trusts, but allows teamwork. He is only in this for himself, and will only save or attempt to save those who would prove useful in the future. Jarrod is a hard man to like, but akin to a tank on the field of battle. Use him for war, but cage him for peace.

OOC Immortal Vindication Empty Re: OOC Immortal Vindication

Post by Fate Flyer Wed Jul 28, 2010 11:49 am

TimeOfTheEye - I really love your characters!! I like that Osono and Locke have this curious sort of relationship and that they're a bit more obsessed about blood than most vampires, especially Osono. Your lycans are really cool characters too, and I liked how you described how they got to be within Nex's inner circular of his pack. That is exactly how I think he would have reacted, and I couldn't have thought of a better, more interesting way for them to become so close to him. Well done! :]

Harper - Great vampire background! I really like how Dursk related his beginning years as a vampire to somewhat being like on a sports team. I think it's interesting too that he was just concerning himself with his kills and was kind of in his own world. Very cool! Sounds good.

quakernuts - Wow, I really like the descriptions of Jarrod's tattoos. A man that big and with an entire body full of tattoos would be pretty intimidating. He definitely had a sad and lonely life, but I'm sure it made him really strong, having to grow up so fast and deal with everything. I really liked that you brought back Alcatraz prison too! That would be an interesting thing to have back in the future. It makes sense that he would only be fighting the current war just so he could have his freedom. That last sentence was awesome too!

Great characters all around, guys! We'll wait for YenWen to create their Night Solider (sweet!), and then I'll start this. If anyone else still wants to join, they are welcome to, but we won't wait around.

OOC Immortal Vindication Empty Re: OOC Immortal Vindication

Post by YenWen Wed Jul 28, 2010 1:47 pm

Name: Mark009 (Or Marco)
Appearance: Marco was built to appear like a normal human being, yet built enough to where most efforts of strength would appear normal. He stands at about 6’ 4”, well-toned and muscular, with his skin colored to look of Spanish/Italian decent. His hair is made of fiber optic wires, most of it coiled within the cavity in his head. He can grow it out to help change his appearance as needed as well as change its color. He prefers keeping it black or dark brown and fairly short and a bit thin. Like his hair, Marco’s eyes contain fiber optics, to help with easy changes. His ‘flesh’ is automated to inflate and deflate when necessary, but his default, again, is to help make strength tasks look natural. He wears basic clothing, what is necessary to help him blend in with the human yet not get in depth with their ways. He sticks mainly to tank tops or t-shirts and jeans.
Personality: Marco is resentful to the human race for starting this whole mess he now has to clean up. He hates their fleshiness and their weakness. It angers him that he must take their form and cannot show the metal and wire that one human so foolish combined to make him. However, he is also confused on the whole situation, considering the contradictions with all the relationships these people and things have started.
Biography: Created in 2148, Marco will at times have his own malfunctions. At the time of his creation, he didn’t truly need to worry about any of it. The humans fixed him. While he did see them, then, as inferior and weak, he didn’t hate them. They meant him no harm. What did mean him harm, as an appearing human, were the beasts in the night. His first encounter with one, in fact, a vampire, was an attack on him.

They struggled, tossing in an alley, when it should have ended within seconds. This was what he was built for, after all, but he couldn’t bring himself to it. It looked like one of those people that had helped him, had made him; one of his ‘mothers’. After all, most humans did look the same to him. He didn’t even truly manage to kill him. Some scared girl had come up behind them, and struck a wooden stake clear through the vampire’s supposed heart.

She took the wallet and trinkets from his pockets, as Marco lay staring. She looked at him for a second, gave a single wave of her hand, and ran. Marco was left with a dead, an entirely dead, body on top of him. “Confirmed” flashed bright green in front of his eyes. He could not cry, he could not be angry, he felt nothing for this human, truly. He slung the body off of himself and stood from the bloody mess. Humans were what this thing was. Empty sacks of meat and nothing. They all looked like this, so obviously they must all eventually do this. They’d all eventually try to foolishly do away with him. They’d never cared for him, but wanted him to do their dirty work. What better way than doing away with the source?

Technology: Marco was created with the basics of every automaton. However, he was built in the stealth division, meaning his weaponry and main uses were for infiltrating. In his left arm is a sharpened blade that he can retract whenever necessary. In his right arm is machine gun what is usable when his hand flips and detaches from his wrist.
As mentioned prior, Marco was designed for infiltration in any way possible. Thus, his hair and eyes contain fiber optic technology to change his appearance. His finger tips are also made of a material that can shift and morph when needed. His height can change as well, being that the metal piping in his legs can reach a maximum length and a minimum, because the piping can only retreat inside itself to a certain point.

Like his wrist, his fingertips have a similar function to unhinge and flip over, to make use of the various tools beneath, such as lock picks, knives, cork screws, pliers, files, ect. These come in as handy as a Swiss Army knife, yet without the annoyance of actually carrying one.

His human-like body and appearance are useful in many accounts. The human body is approachable and easy to distinguish amongst lycans and vampires alike, therefore he can get close without making too much of an effort and too big of a fuss. The body is much lighter than that of the larger automatons, so movement in any sort of fight or interaction is of course going to be faster than that of their larger cousins.

(I’ll try not to, but I may be adding more to this later, if the afterthought occurs.)

Sorry for the wait. Been having a little block due to how much work is, well, working me over (Badum-psh). I intend on making a human as well, but go ahead and start, as it may take me the day or maybe even tomorrow to have it up.

Name: Nicolas
Age: 17
Race: Lycan
Appearance:
Lycan Status: Nicolas was bitten six months ago. Each full moon, he completely losses control of his actions. Because of this, he places himself in restraints in the least populated area he can find, though this does not always work. Nicolas will sometimes shift when scared.
Biography: Nicolas lived a relatively normal life considering the times. His parents still allowed him to go to school, unlike many in his rural neighborhood, and he dreamed of becoming a writer one day. However, during his senior year in high school, rumors started to spread that lycan activity in the area had increased and people started to panic and accuse their neighbors and classmates of being werewolves. Soon the whole community was in uproar and Nicolas was pulled out of school, much to his dismay. Angry at his parents and the community, he ran away for several weeks and met with a fellow classmate, Allie, who had been at the center of the original lycan rumors. Convinced that Allie wasn’t a lycan, Nicolas fell in love with her and, after discovering that a local church group was looking to kill her, took her to hide at his parents' house with his younger sister. His parents disapproved, but happy to have their son safe at home, agreed to house Allie for a few nights. On New Year’s Eve, the next full moon, an angry mob from the church group came knocking and demanding the girl. Allie, unwilling to let the blame fall on the family, agreed to give herself up. However, when she opened the door and the moonlight reached her body, she transformed into a massive wolf. Her yellow eyes looked to Nicolas and that was the last thing he could remember. He woke up a day later with his sister, Maia, and his White Sheppard, Grendel, in his arms, a crescent-shaped scar on his forehead, a large infected bite mark on his right shoulder and a host of dead bodies lying about. Not wanting to be blamed for a night he couldn’t even remember, Nicolas, with Maia and Grendel in tow, left town. That was six months ago.

Name: Maia
Age: 7
Race: Human
Appearance:

OOC Immortal Vindication Empty Re: OOC Immortal Vindication

Post by Fate Flyer Thu Jul 29, 2010 1:52 pm

In regards to the automatons, here is some information about them that Lumeus and I have been establishing. I'm sorry -- it's my fault -- I should have gone into more detail about them. Please read this though, especially if you have an automaton/Night Soldier character. You may need to revise a little bit.

-They're humanoids. I originally pictured them looking like machines, much like the ones in Terminator, but someone has made an automaton that looks identical to a person, so we can just go with that.

-Their skin, eyes, and hair can be completely manipulated at will via fiber optics, so they can change their appearance if needed or desired.

-They are the most intelligent robots in existence, and though they can't ever react the same as humans do to situations because they lack any emotional responses, they are smarter than the typical person.

-All automatons are physically very strong and can take a massive beating without quitting. They can't grow tired, and so they are functioning and on a mission at all times. They have hidden weapons on them, such as a long knife just below their skin that extends out of their wrists and heat lasers that they are capable of shooting out of the palms of their hands.

-Most automatons look like humans, with flesh-like skin. However, there are also much more robotic Night Soldiers that are unable to change their appearance. Some examples of how they look: 1, 2, 3.

-Automatons are the pinnacle of human engineering, programming, and over-all technology. So, they do have it within their power to hijack multiple satellites, thereby allowing them to be system-linked to one another, effectively giving them a collective conscience. This may seem like a possible way to shut down all of the automatons at once, but the closed system network, and veritable army of firewalls and security programs do a pretty good job of keeping that from happening. Their core programming cause them all to act as a single unit without any real leadership.

-It is possible to reprogram a capture automaton and detach their link to the others.

Fate, I'm very interested in joining as an Automaton, but it might take me a little bit to get the CS done as I'm trying to get my own RP up. I'm going to hold a spot if you don't mind. Also, could I snag that second example picture for my Automaton? It'd be perfect for the machine I have in mind.

Oh, no, it's okay, YenWen! I'm sorry you have to adjust your character a bit.

Hey, Plague - sure thing! Of course you could use that picture for your character. :]

Sorry guys -- I expected to have the RP up by now, but I had to go get groceries earlier, and then I had to deal with some phone calls and paperwork for a condo we're moving into in less than a month. I realized I need to redo my characters' descriptions a bit, and they really are outdated now too, since these characters of mine are so old. I just completely rewrote rewrote one of them, and I'm going to finish off the last ones, since I need to know who my characters are before I can, well, control them. Sorry, I just kind of realized that when I was going to go start the post.

AHHHHhhhh.... Epic sadness!

I completely finished writing out the details to all my characters, and somehow, I guess I hit the Back button, and when I went Forward again, all of it was gone. D: Mad I am super pissed right now. I'm sorry. I just spent all this time on them, and now I have to redo it, and it's only going to set me back on starting this RP even more. ARGGHH.

EDIT: OH! I know what happened! I highlighted something to delete, and when I his Backspace, it just flipped the page itself back because of some stupid problem Firefox has with Facebook chat. Whenever someone types something to me, it doesn't let me type any more at all in FOG for some reason, so when I tried to hit Backspace, it just moved the page back. Oh, crap. Well, no more having Facebook open while I'm typing any more.

Aww. Noes. =(

I always type in Word in a special document that I use just for typing new posts. I save as I go and then reuse the document after I am done for the next post. I have had my internet go out while posting up at college and so I started doing that instead of typing it in the reply box.

OOC Immortal Vindication Empty Re: OOC Immortal Vindication

Post by Lumeus Thu Jul 29, 2010 11:48 pm

(Apologies for the double post.)

I've been helping Fate with ideas for the automatons, and since it has been agreed that the units share a collective conscience, Fate has asked me to talk about the Rollout Number assigned to every unit so that they can identify one another.

My character, for example, is TAU-630-NS009

TAU (Tactical Assault Unit)
630 is the Series number.
NS (Night Soldier)
009 is the Unit number.

All of the automatons that look like the first example picture Fate posted are designated as part of the TAU series.

I created plausible Rollout numbers for the other two non-humanoid automatons as well. It's fine if you want to change them, just make sure they follow the same format.

For the second example picture I used HSU-604-NSXXX (Heavy Siege Unit)

And for the third example picture I used DES-616-NSXXX (Detention Enforcement Sentinel)

OOC Immortal Vindication Empty Re: OOC Immortal Vindication

Post by Harper Fri Jul 30, 2010 11:32 am

I'm probably just speaking for YenWen when I say this, but do all automatons have to be like this? Because the character she's created seems suitable to be a spy which I think is a valuable asset. I mean, it makes sense for there to be powerful Night Soldiers with super powered weapons and such, but if there is a valid creation that is outside the normal bounds of the three listed, how should it be handled?

The other thing that makes me uneasy is how do the other three races stand a chance against the Night Soldiers? With Lumeus' deeper characterization of them they seem pretty invincible, and, truly told, a story about who cannot be killed the longest isn't what I thought this rp was about. Just some things to consider: how large are their armies exactly? (too many means the world is doomed, regardless) Are the Night Soldiers capable of mass producing themselves? (ties back into question one) Do they have a specific design flaw that could be exploited? And finally, if they have a hive mind, is their some kind of core computer (queen) that the other races can destroy to either shut down the Night Soldiers or disarm their communications array? (this is important if the answer to the first two questions are "very large" and "yes")

And I used the term hive mind earlier rather than collective conscious to make sure the difference is highlighted. Collective conscious assumes that the automatons hold some autonomy while a hive mind they do not. If there was a hive mind, then the only real characters that can be used are automatons who broke away from the hive (who would be assumed enemies for no longer sharing the same goals), characters trying to assume their own destiny (who would again be enemies), or those who simply describe what would essentially be the godmodding of whoever played as this hive mind/core computer.

As an aside, I really don't have a problem with the automatons, or with the automatons winning for that matter. I just want to be sure that some actual resistance can be offered by the beleaguered survivors. My suggestion would be to set a limit on how many automatons there are, and to also only give them some other faulty design because aside from their battery life running out, I don't see a way to get through a Hyper-alloy combat endoskeleton with anything that isn't as big as brick and traveling at speeds of the average bullet.

Sorry if this does anything to set back the rp, and you don't have to listen to any of this, it was just some food for thought.

OOC Immortal Vindication Empty Re: OOC Immortal Vindication

Post by Lumeus Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:37 pm

Nope, all automatons do not have to be like those three. Those are just three ideas that I purposed to Fate. YenWen's character is still very much valid. If someone wants to make their own completely new model of Night Soldier its fine by me. I would advise running it past Fate first though. The only thing that I was hoping they would all have in common is a Rollout number with which to identify one another by.

It is my understanding that the humans pooled every resource they could get their hands on in order to build the first automatons. If you put the world's smartest people in a room and tell them to make a machine that has one purpose, you're going to get a machine that is extremely efficient at that one purpose. Humans would have made the automatons as strong as possible in order to kill the uber power ancient vampires and lycans. Vampires and Lycans both number in the hundreds of thousands if I'm understanding it correctly (maybe more). That's why the world governments could no longer keep them a secret. So it stands to reason that the humans would mass produce as many as possible. I'll leave it to Fate to decide the exact number of automatons. In order to carry out their new objective of killing vampires, lycans, and humans, the Night Soldiers would likely see it necessary to produce more units. Unlike Terminator, the automatons never launched a worldwide nuke strike, so there are still billions of humans alive.

No, the Night Soldiers do not have a hive mind. There is no central A.I. feeding instructions to the rest of them. They are individual robots in control of their own actions. Every Night Soldier is programmed with the same objectives, and because of the satellite uplink, they share whatever they learn with the rest of the automatons to make them more efficient. If a Night Soldier takes so much damage that it shuts down it possible for the humans to reprogram it, but when it comes back online it will no longer be connected to the rest of the automatons. That being said, it is entirely possibly for the vampires and lycans to do the same.

Weaknesses. As the vampire and lycan progress in years they get stronger. Automatons do not. An electromagnetic pulse is ever the bane of an automaton. You have about five minutes of down time while the automaton reboots. Do not bring small arms to a fight with an automaton. Armor piercing rounds are always a plus. Don't bother trying to hack into the automaton's communications. Humans built in the laser-com relay to specifically prevent the vampires and lycans from doing that. Aim for the head. That's where the CPU is housed.

I hope I answered all of your questions. If I missed something just let me know. And Fate, if I messed anything up feel free to lay down the law and correct me.

OOC Immortal Vindication Empty Re: OOC Immortal Vindication

Post by Fate Flyer Fri Jul 30, 2010 1:10 pm

Thank you guys for discussing this and working together collectively. I really like the idea of us all developing the automatons, as I truly did not in the slightest. I actually wrote the entire first post here while I was in a car ride back home from a mini-vacation haha.

First of all, let me just say that I DO NOT want this to be a story about who-kills-who and who's-stronger-than-who. That, to me, does not sound at all appealing or interesting, not to mention would lack severely in the creative area and the character development and interactions. I think we're all good enough writers to come up with something much more immersing from this. :] Truth be told, when I was working on creating this synopsis, I actually pictured it with some lighthearted humor every once in awhile, so that it would not have to be solely a drama and all doom-and-gloom constantly. I like a little comic relief to break things up, even in the midst of a crisis.

If all the Night Soldiers looked like those 3 images, I don't think ANYONE would stand a chance against an endless army of them. They are just too powerful. I'm sure that we humans could fire some rockets and other such large missiles their way, but if there were only those types of automatons and they were everywhere, just think of all the human casualties of a fight like that. We'd be destroying ourselves while we were trying to destroy them. So, I really would like there to be much less Soldiers like that than ones that are more like YenWen's character (more human-like). I think it would require less resources and much less money to manufacture and produce a robot that was more just like a muscular human with a few weapons than it would to create a giant mechanical killing machine like those lol. So, while all kinds of automatons can exist (I really am quite fine with all kinds of variations - so no need to verify anything with me unless it's just way, way out there), the really massive ones with all the crazy weapons and armor and advanced technology would be far fewer.

Also, I'm thinking that, while the armies of automatons are steadily increasing, there are still much less robots than there are people and vampires and lycans. We don't have to come up with anything super specific, number-wise, but I'm thinking that perhaps 1/5 of the population (including vampires and lycans) is automatons.

That's a good point about the strength of the lycans and vampires. They do, progressively, get to be more powerful as they age, while automatons consistently remain at the same strength from when they were created. That, coupled with their numbers, along with being able to be reprogrammed, the rest of the world still stands a good chance.

I'm thinking that many vampires and lycans will still have a lot of bad blood, even the ones that choose to temporarily put aside their differences to fight together. There are also probably going to be those vampires and lycans who refuse to fight for humanity, seeing it as a fitting end their their existence for trying to kill them off. They may fight a Night Solider if one were to attack them, but only for their own survival. These vampires and lycans only care about themselves and their own kind, and they do not have the foresight to care about humans going extinct.

One question I had was, I can see why it would be beneficial for the automatons to build human looking Night Soldiers, but why would the humans build human looking automatons if they know that the vampires and lycans can see right through the disguise?

Post by Fate Flyer Fri Jul 30, 2010 1:24 pm

That...is a good question. I originally pictured the automatons all looking just like humanoid robots (ie. I, Robot, C3PO, Terminator), but I really should have mentioned that beforehand. Since YenWen's character, I thought that we could have human-looking automatons, but rationally, I'm not sure why humans would want to create human-looking robots, other than perhaps to not scare or startle civilians when armies of them are moving through a city? However, this is the future, and I did mention that robots are everywhere, and I imagine that a lot of families, especially upper-class ones, would have their own automaton to help with everyday needs and chores.

That said, what do you think we should do then?

Ah, then it is possible that the household robots were originally created to look like humans (like in Bicentennial Man) and then were reprogrammed, upgraded, and armed for the war effort.

Edit: I just had the idea that maybe the only units linked together are non-humanoid ones that were built after the automatons started killing everyone? Just a thought.
