Calling Major Tom! [Int Chk]
All systems are go. are you sure?
Control is not convinced
But the computer has the evidence
No need to abort.
The countdown starts
Watching in a trance the crew is certain.
Nothing left to chance all is working.
Trying to relax up in the capsule
"Send me up a drink." jokes Major Tom.
The count goes on
4 3 2 1
Earth below us
Drifting falling floating weightless
Calling calling home
Second stage is cut.
We´re now in orbit
Stabilizers up runnning perfect.
Starting to collect requested data.
"What will it affect when all is done?"
Thinks Major Tom
Back at ground control
There is a problem.
"Go to rockets full"
Not responding.
"Hello Major To. are you receiving?
Turn the thrusters on.
We´re standing by."
There´s no reply.
4 3 2 1
Earth below us
Drifting falling floating weightless
Calling calling home
Across the stratosphere a final message
"Give my wife my love."
Then nothing more
Far beneath the ship the world is mourning.
They don´t realize he´s alive.
No one understands but Major Tom sees.
Now the light commands
This is my home I´m coming home."
Earth below us
Drifting falling.
Floating weightless
Calling home...
As the connection broke and the last message was sent back to Earth, the ship pummeled through space at the mercy of it's divine beauty and expansion. The sea that the small crew was lost in was enigmatic to detail. There was only so much that Earth knew about it, no matter where you were from.
That's when a ripple was found, only when one wasn't looking for it. The crew members shook within the ship as it gained speed and pace through the mysterious tunnel, knocking each and every one of them unconscious. Was it fate at last? Taking them to the heavens? Or perhaps just the air in which their bodies would rot?
The crew only woke up to a rather loud crash, the ship hit water and it had hit them back in the collision. Time was pressing against their lives, another test of survival. Still no connection to Earth. But where were they?
This question would have to wait. Their ship was sinking. If they expected to exit it to the surface and survive... Action would have to come first.
And fast.
Were there many survivors from this collision? Will they get out of the ship before it sinks? How do the natives to this place feel about such an intrusion? A UFO to their knowledge falling in from the sky and plotting into their sea? And with such mechanics of advanced technology?
Will they ever make it back home...?
This is a futuristic sci-fi/steampunk roleplay. The crew is from a Future Earth, and they slipped through a hole that took them to a whole knew universe unknown to man back home. Here, they use a system of Steampunk mechanics. (As a general difference)
There are two choices:
-You can be a crewmember.
-You can be a native to this new world.
I need at least 2 Earthlings in this roleplay.
If you are going to play someone from Otherworld, and you do not want to use the cities or people I have provided below, please read the legends and what not under "Things To Know as a Player" near the bottom, so you have an idea of what it's like. If you want to make up a character from a completely different type of city, go for it! just make your city legit and give me some background on it so I can add it to the cities, though it will not be one of the major 3, keep in mind.
Questions, comments, and concerns feel free to post or to PM me. ;] I've run this roleplay on another site 8 months ago and it still lives today. I want to try and see what creative minds this site has to bring more to the table. ^^
Things you may want to know, if you're interested:
People Who Matter:
The following people are playable, but if not chosen or altered to a player's liking, they will become NPCs automatically.
Queen Jada of Jadan City - This character is reserved.
- Spoiler:
- As familiar as the city's name sounds to the queen's, there is a reason! Queen Jada is ancient! Not that she looks that way by any means, but she is more so immortal to time and is fortunate enough to not have been harmed deeply enough to cause her death. (She is not immune to physical attack!)
She is calm, collected, and very kind. She rules a prosperous city who adores her as more than a figurehead, but a Queen. She tries to think of the solution that will benefit everyone before herself. If her people are happy, then she is.
Commander Stanton L'dayel - This character is available!
- Spoiler:
- [If you want to play this character, feel free to pick a picture of your own or desribe him how you see fit.]
Stanton is the Queen Jada's right hand. Whether it really has anything to do with the militant unit of the city or a large function for the city, he is at her side, or her eyes among the world. For the immortality of Jada's ageless nature is only so long as she is not harmed to death, and therefor he goes about for her as a figurehead and leader. He is the only person she trusts with such a deep sincerity.
King of Kurek City, Riddeon - This character is available!
- Spoiler:
- In regards to Steampower, Kurek is the most advanced kingdom of Otherworld. The first aircrafts were built here, the first steam-trains, steam-carts, steam-everything. To go there is like going to a live fantasy of mechanical intelligence. Every engineer’s dream is to end up there working for their king.
Riddeon is one of the youngest rulers of the city. At a striking seventeen, his family fell under the tragedy at Tohan Factory, where they were on the verge of creating the latest weapon module for their own aircraft. His parents were great enthusiasts, despite the terrible rule they had over Kurek. They expected their people to be just like them, sacrficing for the advancement of steampower. Hardly eating, hardly sleeping, mainly studying. It was unfortunate for the civilians who lived there and did NOT enjoy strictly engineering. Riddeon has been ruling to fix some of these things, slowly, for 10 years now, but with the aggression from the Woodland Elves...
Faeries - They SUCK! (Still, you are permitted to play one...)
- Spoiler:
- Faeries suck, plain and simple. They are a chaotic neutral species that build up on karma and do with it which they will. For example: Man helps kitten from tree = 80% Faeries will grant him good luck/fortune. But, Man, on the other hand, decides to shoot kitten in tree? = 80% of Faeries decide he's going to get in rotten times.
But there is always that 20% who have no law, no system, and will do as they will for their own amusement, selfish needs, or.. worse.
Things to know as a player:
Future Earth
- Spoiler:
2010 - 2350
In the early 21st century the United States of America fell into unprecedented economic hardship. With ever increasing debt and inflation threatening to bring the country to its knees and no politician seeming to have an answer to the problem, it seemed like it was the end for America. With the rest of the world fairing no better in the global depression, the US had no allies it could turn to for aid and support.
Then in 2032 the inevitable happened. Disillusioned with the seemingly broken political system in Washington, General Brougham, a high ranking leader in the US Armed Forces, launched a successful coup against the government and declared martial law, ending over 250 years of Democracy in America. Equally disillusioned and disgruntled with politicians in Washington that could do nothing, the people gave their support to this new President.
Knowing that no purely economic solution was in sight, President Brougham instead turned to conquest as a means to acquire more resources. With the collapse of the British Commonwealth in the years between 2026 and 2030, Canada had been left isolated in the North and was his first target. After that he turned his sights on the Caribbean and Central America, annexing every country all the way down to Panama with there being little any other country in the region could do to stop him.
Meanwhile the in Europe, the European Union had completely dissolved, with its former members now embroiled in an endless series of wars with both one another and with the Middle East over increasingly limited resources. Russia's government had become highly unstable and in 2033 fell to a Communist coup. Seeking to reclaim their former power, this new Communist Russia began to invade its neighbors and conquered them one by one with surprising speed.
Both America and Russia greedily devoured every nation in their path to acquiring more resources to support their ever struggling economies. It was inevitable they would come into conflict and so in 2039 they did and World War III began. Though no nuclear weapons were used, it was a horrible conflict that lasted until 1947 and ended inconclusively, with both superpowers having been unable to gain the upper hand.
Eventually, with the peoples growing acceptance of an authoritarian America, President Brougham declared himself President-For-Life and upon his death in 2077 his son James Brougham succeeded him as "President". By the time of his death, people had begun to think of the President like a Sovereign Monarch rather than a mere politician, and in 2144, his son Henry proclaimed himself Emperor of the "Imperial Union of North America".
Similarly, the Communist government of Russia had taken to calling itself the "Union of Eurasian Soviet Republics" with their newly acquired territory and power. With brutality unseen since Joseph Stalin, they kept a tight hold on their possessions which ranged from parts of China to parts of central Europe and the Middle East.
From here to the present (2355) many more wars between the two superpowers were fought, with many other nations caught in between their eternal warring. Earth was gradually transformed into a depleted and war torn wasteland. At last seeing that their planet was dieing, the current Emperor of the IUNA, Maxwell Brougham commissioned a state of the art starship, the xxx, with the expressed mission of discovering an inhabitable world that the IUNA and it's people could evacuate to and colonize.
Otherworld
- Spoiler:
- In general, Otherworld is a whole new world, hence the name. It has grasslands, it has swamps. It has desserts, it has seas, it has lifeforms, and creatures beyond imagination. Steam powered mechanics and technology is the advancement of the century. Among the many cities, some governed democratically, most of them not, there are three major cities. Kurek, Jadan, and Bernadice. Kurek is in the highest in the running of advanced Steampower; the leader. Jadan is in last place, running upon simplicity and peace through hardwork using natural minerals, a utopia or sorts, etc, and Bernadice runs as a balance between the two, though it is completely lost and hidden in a eternal sandstorm, according to legend.
Though these are the three main cities, do not forget that there are many more to be discovered by the ship crew, just use your imagination. If it's not there already, make it up and let it be discovered!
The Legend of Bernadice
- Spoiler:
- In the distant past there were two faeries who were exact opposites of each other. Jada, the faerie that can never do wrong, and Bernard, the faerie that can never do right. As a stroke of fate, the two faeries fell in love with each other, but in by doing so angered the elder faeries. as faeries are not allowed to behave in such mortal ways, such as in falling in love.
As punishment, the elder faeries decided to turn both Jada and Bernard into mortals, and banished them from being faeries for all eternity. Jada, however, was able to escape the wrath of the faeries due to her good nature. Bernard on the other hand, was banished to the Soulieria Desert, and was cursed for all eternity.
As time went on, Bernard stumbled upon a magical mirror in the desert, which was able to give him a wife. Sadly, after Bernard's wife gave birth to their only son, Bernard died due to the curse of the faeries. Bernard's son however, grew up to be a man, who was able to establish the town of Bernadice in honor of his father. In the beginning, Bernadice was a thriving city, a center of trade in the desert, as well as a place to rest. The faeries however, did not approve of this and cursed the town. An everlasting sandstorm surrounds the city and denies the citizens any light from the sun.
Because of this, the citizens, especially those of the bloodline of Bernard, were affected. As time grew on, the skin of the citizens grew pale, and due to the lack of sunlight, they are unable to grow vegetables. The bloodline of Bernard, due to their curse, are unable to digest cooked meat, thus they must consume meat raw, or at least still bleeding. In time the citizens of Bernadice learned to gain nutrients from the blood of what they eat, and in desperate times, have even been known to kill any wandering traders and caravans so that they may consume them.
The Depths of the Seas
- Spoiler:
- They say that every monster that dwells beneath the surface of the seas is a soul lost at sea, coming back to haunt those who tread over the waters that he never could. Jealousy and rage corrupted these beings into mindless creatures that hated everything.
But it is also said that any woman who falls into the sea is granted eternal life.. As a ghost of melody. A Siren. Who sings the men to her to join her in her home… One that does not greet guests as fine as they intend.
This is why people began developing Aircrafts over the years. Being in a war with someone across the seas was hard enough. Having to cross it and survive was a whole separate problem.
The Enigmatic Woods
- Spoiler:
- This is where the woodland elves live among the forest fairies. They are keepers of all things nature, and are modern-day ‘hippies’ if there ever were. They live high up in the trees, seemingly ‘tree houses’ to those who indulged in technology and the mechanics of steam, but it suited them fine. They found a natural way to give them everything they could ever need, never having to leave the forest.
If a woodland elf ever left the forest, they were no longer called a woodland elf, but only of elven descent. They were no longer acknowledged for having left the true place, home, in search of better things. Curiosity. It made them more like the humans. And that was something many of them despised for cutting down their trees among other poisonous things they did to the surrounding plants and animals of the kingdom of Kurek, the Kingdom of Steam.
NOTE: This will be edited as places are explored. I put up generalizations until then.

Re: Calling Major Tom! [Int Chk]
I'd like to play Commander Stanton L'dayel, if I may. I've been wanting to play something either Sci-Fi or Steampunk for a while now, and here you are throwing up an interest check with roots in both genres.
If the Commander only has a transient role in the roleplay, I also wouldn't mind playing one of the crew, but if he'll be fairly active, I'll make do with just him.

Re: Calling Major Tom! [Int Chk]
I actually encourage everyone to play up to 2 characters, because at one point, the group might be split [coughs]. But if everyone prefers one character, that's fine by me. My ideas are endless on this roleplay. Just takes some creativity from everyone.
Stanton L'dayel is as active as you make him :] Though he may not be busy at first, he will be rather challenged very shortly. But there's something about Stanton we should talk about that may spark you're interest as well (involving his past)!
Gunneh! I'm glad you're interested. ^^
Later on, I will try and post up character sheets and what not. Like I said before, if you choose an Earthling, just read the Earth history and go to town with your bio, but if you choose a Soulierian, then either make up a character with what I've given you, or go an extra yard and make up the whole civilization of where they're from. I like to think of it similar to Lost Odyssey or a past Final Fantasy game, where the world seems normal with similarities to our own, but they have other races. Even the bunny people ;] I even had someone take the Pandaren from WoW and play them as a character.
Adventure is OUT THERE!

Re: Calling Major Tom! [Int Chk]
Out there! Out there! Out there! Out there!
Anyway, that sounds good! Looking forward to this roleplay. The chance to explore Steampunk again is exciting. Perhaps I'll see if Saori would like to join this game, as well, though she might still be too busy for an active roleplay.
If I can play two characters, then I'll play two. Having more than one viewpoint to post from will prevent my inclination to only post when it'll be something relatively long...maybe. Regardless, it's as easy for me to post for two characters as it is for one. Just takes the motivation.

Re: Calling Major Tom! [Int Chk]
Sighlent has also placed her interest via the IRC as a human and a faery on the side.
Re: Calling Major Tom! [Int Chk]
I'd like to play alone as well if that's cool.
I can play an Earthling and something in the Otherworld if there are other creatures besides just faeries.

Re: Calling Major Tom! [Int Chk]
Definitely more creatures than just faeries. Faeries are just a pain in the ass, and you hardly see them unless you're daring to venture in the enigmatic woods.
What did you have in mind? Almost everything is allowed. (No dragon-half breeds etc..)

Re: Calling Major Tom! [Int Chk]
Haha.
Oh I'm not sure yet.
I'm out looking for things that spark my interest.
I would like something that could possibly shape-shift if that was allowed.

Re: Calling Major Tom! [Int Chk]
I'm in for this if you can spare another spot here.
I think I'll go for an earthling and...I'll think of some otherworldly thingy that I can mess around with.
