I wanna post, but everything I write just seemed stupid somehow. I've deleted and re-written the beginning page at least three times now, and it's starting to drive me crazy, so I'm gonna go a little over my own deadline and get something I like done.

Sorry to hear about that, Hello Danger. I hope you can get it all sorted out... I'm looking forward to you posting!

Post by Shadow Moonseye Wed Mar 31, 2010 2:23 pm

So....The latest update for me...I had planned on having my post done and up later this afternoon.

But, my computer killed my post. The entire document is gone. So, I'm gonna have to wait and see if Plaguewalker saved the pieces of my post that I sent him. But he won't be home for another three hours or so.

Hopefully he's still got the pieces and I won't have to start from scratch all over again. But, if I do, so be it.

Sorry for the wait everyone. Sad

I always say: when you're stumped on what to write, start describing the surroundings. That usually works for me. As I get the surroundings in my head, and as the fingers get used to typing, usually the actual post isn't far behind.

I always like seeing people talk about their posting schedules because then I can compare my writing style to theirs.

Some people take days to write, others shorter. Sometimes you have no ideas, sometimes you are full of them.

And, well, I rather have people take weeks to post but have a nice post, than three seconds and have a botched post.

That is all. Smile

I tend to write posts up in one sitting.

Typically in about an hour or two but they tend to be good anyway. Very Happy

Hey, everyone, I've got some bad news. I didn't have the peices of Shadow's post, so she's effectivly lost all of her work...we're gonna try and recover what she had, but it's gonna be slow going, and rather frustrating.

Sorry. This really came out of nowhere. I'll do my best to get it up soon.

Post by Kathryn Lacey Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:16 pm

For my posts, I usually pull up a blank Word document, and formulate my own posts based on what is written in others' posts. I'll read through each post, and what they have will inspire things in what I will have as far as reactions and new ideas go.

I always multitask while I do this because it helps me think. If I just write my entire post in a period of a half an hour to an hour, I usually end up thinking of new things that I wished I'd posted. Allowing what I'm reading and writing to simmer usually enables me to have better information.

I'm not going to post tonight because I don't have time, but I cannot post again until the seventh of April at the earliest because I'm going to be in Oregon. My flight home arrives late on the sixth, and I have to work early the next morning, sooo yeah...

Shadow, don't worry about rushing a post. We've all waited this long. It won't kill us to wait a little longer.

My post will be going up very soon. Kathryn convinced me to make it one post so its a bit longer than I expected. I was going to make it two posts before my pirate was at the meeting. Now I'm moving it all into one post to speed things up!

Emoria: OOC - Page 6 Empty Re: Emoria: OOC

Post by Buzzwulf Thu Apr 01, 2010 1:43 pm

yeah, for me, I generally take a while, but I actually write everything I want to get into the post down before I type it out. That's more like an hour or so where I outline what I want to happen and how I'm planning on doing it within the post I'm writing. I really don't like putting it on the computer right away, it seems to lose something for me. Anyway, when I copy it into a word processor (Just got Word for school. I am ecstatic) it takes much less time then, (generally about half an hour or so), and while I'm typing I often catch many of my errors or word a sentence or two differently. Then I go back through the document and edit, and BBcode format as best I can. I don't like using the little buttons on the site, because it seems like there's too many ways they can get screwed up a little.

I honestly don't know why I'm having so much trouble with this post. Generally I'm in RPs with a lot more shoot-em-up, but I think it's great to mix things up once in a while, so I'm really enjoying the character interactions here. I even know roughly what I want to write, but when I try to write it, it just seems childish.

I guess I'll just write whatever I can think of for a while and see if something salvageable pops out.

Buzzwulf, is it possible you are just too hard on yourself? I know I sometimes write things down and then I say to myself; "Wow, my character really sounds dumb..."

But I think thats great. Why? Because characters are never perfect. People will always say something immature/childish/stupid at one point. It may not be often, but its still there.

I just say to myself that it adds reality to my character, because, as I said before, nothing is perfect!

Oh, and for the record, a little in-sight on diplomats and politicians in general. You can believe me when I say that politicians are the most childish, 'in-tune with their inner child' and most of the time immature people you will ever meet. Jean Poitiers isnt just like that because I felt like it, but because thats how what people do... well, in Canada anyway. Parliamentary governments are always chaotic. I know its not the same for the US of A, but still.

So, what I guess I am trying to say is that sometimes childish is good!

That is all. Smile

I like this episode where we're sharing our posting styles. xD

Usually I sit for a little bit to visualize as much as I can of the post, as if it were a movie or an anime. If I can't visualize anything--which sometimes happens--I'll just start describing the surroundings. Usually for me, as I said, something'll get triggered and the post starts flowing. Depending on the size of the post, it can take me anywhere from a half hour to more like three hours. Posts in Sephiris: The Price of Peace, for example, sometimes take me that long. xD

Ah yes, and Buzzwulf, you must understand that, counting everyone up to date, you are the one I anticipate the most when you post.
I hope that Saint doesn`t mind a nosy priest...
I hope to see many more friendly... discussions between our two characters again! Soo much fun!

Oh, and my explanation to the childness in ones post can be seen as an excuse for my future posts. Very Happy

Hahah, thanks Kalon! Very Happy

@Raptorman, I'm pretty sure we do.

It's a single shot flint lock pistol... Not a machine gun.

If the ships of Emoria are equipped with cannons, which would only make sense, considering the naval battles that have been discussed between the various nations, then the use of gun powder has already been discovered. Its not far-fetched to say Emoria has invented basic firearms.

Not to mention Silvone has already read my character sheet where I mentioned there my character used two flint lock pistols. He didn't seem to have a problem with it then.

However, if Silvone or Ryona tell me its no longer okay I use them I'll edit my post, or if enough people seriously have a problem with it, I'll do the same.

It's really no advantage over all the enchanted armors and magics that are floating around...

Yeah it is. You see you can dodge a magic blast you can dodge an arrow or a sword strike if you are fast enough. You can't dodge bullets, and I am pretty sure we don't have cannons either.

And guns take no time to learn how to use, it takes years to become a good mage or swordsman, it takes an hour to learn how to point and shoot a gun.

Um, no its not?

You're trying to tell me a mage who has use of magic can't figure out a way to avoid a bullet... one pellet bullet? In the heat of battle hitting what you're aiming at with a basic firearm like a flint lock pistol would be a challenge. Add a mage hurling lighting bolts at you while you try makes it even more unlikely. The reload time on a gun like that is like 20 seconds maybe 10, not taking in account if some huge armored knight/warrior isn't rushing in at you. How long does it take an archer to reload his bow? What? A few seconds? Get off me with that garbage, kid!

And there is SKILL in marksmanship. You sound ignorant saying other wise. Again, if Silvone or Ryona have a problem, or if anyone other than the Dark Lord can't deal, I'll edit my post.

Do you not understand why guns beat swords in the end?

Get a group of people and give them guns, even if they are single shot having a group firing into a mob or line of onrushing swordsmen will be devastating, that is why for a swords and sorcery type of RP you don't typically have guns, because all it takes is someone getting clever and that is it.

I understand, perfectly.

What you aren't thinking about is it’s no different if you asked the same group of swordsmen to rush in on a group of archers or mages. Its the swordsman's challenge to close the distance between him and his opponent just like it will be the archer's, mage's, or in this case a pistoleer's challenge to last against the swordsman once he's in on him.

I see what you're saying. I just think you may be making it into something more than it is. The type of guns I'm talking about are no better if not less effective than a bow and arrow or crossbow.

I see no problem with the simple pistols, especially since the pirate lacks in magic and armor. Sure, they pack a harder punch, but their range is poor and I fail to see how it is easy to dodge arrows.

As it is possible to dodge bullets, their velocities may differ noticeably, but even arrows travel fast enough where a lined up shot at short range cannot be avoided. Keep in mind that these are simple rounds that lack in accuracy and are too blunt to make armor piercing a certainty. Out of all of the nations, it would make sense that a pirating or naval civilization would focus on gunpowder.
