Re: The Celebration Thread :D
I celebrate scaring the shit out of my lazy manager at work tonight! I stood waiting in the cold milkbox, inside a square opening surrounded by tall stacks of milk crates that didn't even leave me room to turn around, for a total of 45 mintues waiting for him to come in and fill the milk. I even emptied most of the shelves so that he would realize, "hey, I need to go fill the milk." He walked by three times before he actually came in to fill it. I waited...and waited...and waited...and then jumped up and screamed.
His face was absolutely priceless. His whole body stiffened as he kind of leaned back and his jaw dropped and his eyes bulged...and he kind of stared for a few seconds as he tried to figure out what the hell I was and what I was doing in the middle of the milk crates...
Absolutely awesome

I wish I could get away with doing that. However, if I had been standing there for that long, they would have been like, "Why didn't you just fill them?"

Re: The Celebration Thread :D
I'm celebrating because yesterday when I visited my grandma she surprised me by bringing out a caramel tart that she had made especially for me the day before. She let me take it home too. I'm eating a piece right now.
Caramel tart = my favorite food ever. I almost cried when my mother accidentally dropped the one we brought home from Christmas dinner.
Although, I'm a bit peeved because my dad cut himself a piece, and it was about a third of the tart (it was only small to begin with). He didn't ask or even say thank-you until I bugged him long enough. I hardly ever get the stuff.

Why don't you learn how to make it? It would help, I'm sure. Then, if your dad eats a bunch or your mom drops it, you can always have more anyway.

Re: The Celebration Thread :D
I have tried before, and I'm usually pretty good at baking but it never seems to turn out very well. Making the caramel is the hardest part. It's always either too runny or burnt. There's definitely an art to it.
I think it's probably for the best anyway. Teaching me how to make my own caramel tart would create a monster... a very gluttonous, overweight one at that.
We still ate the one mum dropped. It was a bit broken up, but the tart itself didn't touch the floor. So I just pieced it back together.

hahahahahah You're awesome. I would have done the same thing in your position.
I'm in the wrong thread. I need to go to the complaining one... So... I celebrate the ease with which I will do that! ^^_^^;;

Re: The Celebration Thread :D
My wife's grandparents brought the puppy in from outside (a cute, furry black thing). It was across the street I guess, just wandering around. We made Found posters and hung them up, and eventually someone called. Actually...it was right away. But in the meantime, Taeo really bonded to it, and we both fell in love with it. We instantly decided that we really wanted it. Luckily, they were giving the dog away anyways, so we decided to keep her. Unfortunately we won't be picking her up until tomorrow night.

Oh yay - a puppy!
It's very fortunate that they were giving her away, it's like she was meant especially for you guys. Have you got any ideas for a name yet? Or are you waiting to spend more time with her?
And I am celebrating because I've finally solved the problem with the fish filter! It wasn't the sponge inside, it was the propeller part that was clogged. I didn't realize you could remove it, but when I did I shook the motor and a big blob of algae came out. So that's the end of that mystery.

I feel like she was meant for us as well. She and Taeo got a long so well...
We were discussing names last night, we may be naming her Tia Dalma, but I also like the name Daae (Die-yay), because Taeo can say it. I have a feeling that it is going to be Tia Dalma though Who knows, after we get her we may think of something else.

I'm celebrating the fact that I finally managed to pin point the part of the uniform code for my school that states you are allowed to have exactly one nose stud.
Tada! My nose isn't pierced but I am sick to death of teachers telling kids to remove piercings that they are allowed to have and now I have proof.
Jewellery
As long as students are responsible in their use of jewellery, they will be permitted to wear:
• A watch;
• Plain stud or sleeper earrings if ears are pierced, and
• One small and discreet nose stud if nose is pierced.

Re: The Celebration Thread :D
Aww. You're so lucky! I would love to see a good version of it. The only version I've ever seen was that horrible movie that had Gerard Butler as the Phantom. It was made of fail.
However, Misery is also a fan of The Phantom of the Opera ((not the movie with Butler)), so I've been able to hear the music from the original cast through him. It's soooo good.
Have you ever read The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux or Phantom by Susan Kay? If you haven't, I would recommend that you do. Of course, you should read them in the order that they came out. Phantom by Susan Kay is a quicker read, but it also tells all about his life from birth to death. It's really good, but it's important to read Leroux's book first in my opinion.

I haven't read the books, it's the music that I'm attracted to more than anything, but if I ever have time to read again I will be sure to check those out.
I didn't think the movie was so bad, but again I pay attention to the music more than anything, and I thought that everyone did well enough singing their parts. Also, there were things that could be portrayed in film that the stage just couldn't accomplish. Of course, that goes vice versa as well.

Actually, the movie wasn't bad, but it was Gerard Butler who ruined it. While I thought they could have found a better girl to play as Christine, the movie could have been successful if they hadn't allowed Butler to sing. I mean, if they could dubb Carlotta's singing, why couldn't they do the same for his? He has no range, and the only training he's ever had wasn't classical. The Phantom is supposed to have an other-wordly singing voice, but he didn't even have a halfway decent voice in the movie. It's really disappointing.

Ah well, he's scottish so I let him pass
I also can't forget that I let Depp slide with Mr. Todd even though he had very little training, so I would be biased to not do the same for Butler.
I do see why you would want someone else though. The Phantom on Broadway was much more...other worldly. Though I was so far away I could not see his face, his voice spoke (or sang) for it.
I didn't realize they dubbed Carlotta!

Re: The Celebration Thread :D
No, no... You cannot compare Sweeney Todd to Eric.
Johnny Depp did a great job because Sweeney Todd should have a rough sounding voice. It was perfect for the part in my opinion. Of course, I really didn't like the movie. I'm just saying from an observational standpoint.
Gerard Butler failed because Eric is supposed to have an ethereal voice, and he's supposed to be classically trained. His voice wasn't supposed to crack or be shitty at all.
Therefore, Deep > Butler as far as how suitable for the part they are. I won't let Butler slide because he sucks. Misery and I got into a big fight about how much he sucks. I said that with training, he could probably do better, but he was not suited to that role at all as far as singing goes. However, once I learned that he did have training, I declared Misery the winner of that long-standing argument, and I cannot defend him any more.
Nice new set, Loki! I like the combination of the two together. =3
I should get my laptop tomorrow if the estimated delivery date was correct!

Oh dear, I'm almost afraid to ask your stand on Ewan Mcgreggor in Moulin Rouge?
I think perhaps I am a softie on the issue because I love to sing, but do not have a beautiful voice.
I completely idolize Depp + Carter for preforming Sweeney Todd with absolutely no previous experience, because it reminds me that it is okay to dream about musical stardom even if it won't ever really happen

Re: The Celebration Thread :D
I have only seen Moulin Rouge once, and it was many years ago, so I do not maintain an opinion about the movie. However, I remember enjoying it a lot more than I enjoyed The Phantom of the Opera, so perhaps that's something?
Mer... I love to sing, too, but I've had absolutely no training. My voice cracks all the time when I sing, and sometimes I lose my breath because I don't have any training on the proper air distribution for certain things... Of course... the worst time I had with keeping my breath was when I visited Misery in the mountains... I think maybe it was the altitude, but I could be wrong.
Anyway, yeah. I'm not a particularly great singer, and I don't think I have a beautiful voice. I know I'm a better singer than my best friend who not only has no pitch, but she also over-does it much like Carlotta over-did it compared to Christine. Despite the fact that she almost always hits the wrong notes, we sing together along to the radio all the time because I know she enjoys it.
I would never encourage her to try to join a musical unless she was a part of a larger chorus because I don't want her to be sad when she doesn't make it, but I have no issues with privately singing along to music or in the shower or whatever. Though it would be fun, I'm nowhere near good enough to be in a musical ((unless I'm in the chorus)). If people like to sing, they like to sing. No one should stop them from singing on their own time.
I mean, I've been singing and had someone actually tell me to shut up, but when I sang "Who Will Save Your Soul?" by Jewel at my job's Christmas Party ((there was karaoke)), I had a lot of people tell me I did a really great job. I also got cheers when I held that first, loooong note during the third time she sings the chorus.
I get mixed messages concerning my singing. I just consider myself "okay, but nothing special."
I celebrate the joy of singing whether one is good at it or not. ^^_^^

I celebrate that as well. I have had many years of training as a singer, and I am a good singer, as in I can play piano, read music, have good breathing skills (despite asthma) keep pitch, rhythm, tempo, etc...but my voice just isn't good. I'm great in a chorus, and I was often the one that people lean toward to make sure they are doing it right, but I was never the soloist

Re: The Celebration Thread :D
Ah, that sucks. I have relative pitch, but nothing above it. I guess with training it wouldn't be as bad, but without the training, I can often only catch a pitch when I hear it from others.
When I was in high school, I was in Speech Team ((where there are groups of people who act out skits and compete statewide, so it's theatre, not... discussion...)). Anyway, I was in a category called Choral Reading which focuses on the voices working together to create something. The director was very musical, and our skit was called "Dead Winter Dead" which is also the name of the CD rock opera from Savatage ((the name of Trans Siberian Orchestra before T.S.O.)).
We sang a song at the end that had several different parts all harmonizing together. Well, the only two people ((guys)) other than me who had the right range for the part I was going to sing ((I'm an alto)), turned out to really suck and not have any real range. Anyway, with everyone else around me singing other harmonies, I could not get my own harmony correct, so the girl with perfect pitch that started the first part of the song for a group of girls ((they couldn't get it without her, but once they had it, they could maintain it)) had to walk over to where I stood and sing my part right next to me for the remainder of the song, or I just couldn't do it. XDDDD
However, the first time she tried to help me, she asked if I could sing an octave lower than her because she wasn't sure she could go low enough, and I sang an octave lower without any problems.
We sang a portion of "Not What You See" by Savatoge. The part we sang is in the spoiler, and I bolded and underlined the part I had to sing. This is mostly for those who have heard the song ((rare as it may be)), so they'll have a better understanding of it.
The girls started with the first paragraph. Then the boys started with the second. I started with perfect-pitch-girl on the third, and the sopranos sang the very last line. It kind of occurred like how people sing that "Row Your Boat" song, where one starts, another comes in with the next, and another and another, and the people just repeat their own parts until the end of the segment which was basically after the second time I had sung my part.
It sounded really good in my opinion. It's no wonder we won the Banner for our category at All State.

Can you live your life in a day?
Putting every moment in play?
Never hear a word thath they say as the wheels go around?
Tell me if you win would it show?
In a thousand years who would know?
As a million lifes come and go on the same piece of ground
I've been waiting
I don't understand what you want me to be
It's the dark you're hating
It's not who I am, but it is what you see
Tell me would you really want to
See me leave this night without you?
Don't you ever look about you?
Wandering where we might be
New York is so far away now
Tokio, Berlin and Moscow
Only dreams from here, but somehow
One day that world we will see
I don't understand ( 8x )
I celebrate good memories from high school...

I never sing in front of anyone… issues with a strong hatred of my voice as well as problems with self-confidence and nerves. Recording isn’t also a pain for this, whenever I try to record my voice I can tell before I even play it back that I screw up terribly from over concentrating.
That is awesome that you know of Savatage and Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Kathryn. I don’t see many people he do. I wish I could have heard that.
I celebrate awesome music that reminds me of high school, and the fact that I pretty much don’t speak to anyone from it anymore… aside from a total of about four people. And I’ve only seen two of them since graduation, both back in October… I’m so damn isolated…

Re: The Celebration Thread :D
Those types of songs are called rounds, and that sounds like a lot of fun!
My favorite songs were always a capella for some reason. My most favorite was a japanese lullaby called Takeda no Komoiurta. The men sang the beat with a "bum, bum ba bum" in four different pitches (tenor 1 and 2, bass 1 and 2) and the women sang the lullaby in harmony, often splitting into 4 pitches (alto 1 and 2, soprano 1 and 2). I sang soprano every year except for my last year of high school, but I doubt I could hit those high notes anymore.
A lot of people have the problem you had, which is why it sucks to have a person off-key in a choir. That's what I meant when I said people leaned in to me to make sure they were doing it right. If they listened to me, they would get it. But it wasn't easy singing loud enough for everyone to hear! -_-
I don't celebrate high school, because I hated it...I will celebrate graduating high school and never going back.

Re: The Celebration Thread :D
Melancholy, yeah. I know. I never would have known about them if it hadn't been for my favorite teacher ((who was also my Speech Team director)). He introduced a lot of students to them, and they're really great. I had never even heard of rock opera until TSO, but I really like it. ^^_^^
Ryona, for the most part, high school was just another period in my life. I did drugs for the first year, so I was getting off them after that. We had at least one death a year ((two of the five I knew and liked)) at school ((just that they were students, not occurring during school hours or on the campus)), and there were two deaths in my family family the summer before my sophomore year and the April during it. It was really rough...
Winning the banner in Speech Team was a badly needed high point, and it was a huge high point for those in my school. Of course... the group mimes were pissy because West Des Moines won again, but fuck them. Everyone other than the mimes were happy for our win because the school gets to display the banner. It's like a win for the school and not just for Choral Reading.
Anyway, I'm sorry that your high school career sucked. Didn't you meet Silvone in high school, though? That's at least one good point. ^^_^^
I celebrate successful relationships ((rare though they may be)).
