A Clash of Interests [Warhammer 40,000] Empty A Clash of Interests [Warhammer 40,000]

Post by Tempest Fri Aug 21, 2009 2:01 pm

Alright, here is the promised OOC. I have decided to call the role play 'A Clash of Interests' as it will revolve about different species members becoming stranded with each other and having to work towards survival, despite their differences. Obviously each individual will have different interests, barring survival and escape. Thus this is A Clash of Interests. Very Happy

Because it is highly unlikely, even with the whimsical nature of the warp, for so many different beings to arrive stranded in the same place, there will be an explanation which the party will stumble upon in their quest.

If anyone wants to play Tau we will have to discuss their arrival on the planet, as they are incapable of Warp Travel. Still, it is possible for you to be a member of the Tau race.

What is not possible is for you to be a Necron or Tyranid. I know these may be popular races, but how do you expect to compromise or co-operate with anyone when all you think about is the purity of death and eating, respectively.

Equally, followers of Chaos, Orks and Dark Eldar will have no chance of co-operating with Imperial, Tau or Eldar forces so if enough people join either side two parties will be formed.

Now, I will not reveal a full storyline, because as a GM I love leading my party through surprises and twists, mysteries and challenges. For now, you must all create a character and we will take it from there.

Code:
[u][b]Character Sheet[/b][/u]

[b]Species:[/b]

[b]Name:[/b]

[b]Age:[/b]

[b]Gender:[/b] (Please be lore accurate, Space Marines are only male, Ork are without gender, etc.)

[b]Appearance:[/b]

[b]Subdivision:[/b] (Chapter/Sept/Regiment/Craftworld/Klan/Kabal etc.)

[b]Rank:[/b]

[b]Weapons/Equipment:[/b]

[b]Biography:[/b] (Optional, if you like it can come through in the role play.)

Here is mine.

Character Sheet

Species: Space Marine, Adeptus Astartes.

Name: Gedriel

Age: 87

Gender: Male

Appearance: Gedriel, like all Space Marines, strikes an impressive and intimidating figure. He towers over all mortal men and the process which made him into the avatar of war that is an Astartes built him like a wall. Despite his considerable muscle bulk however, he moves with the incredible reflexes of all Astartes. His features are handsome, defined and noble like an ancient king of old, despite the gigantism that makes Space Marines so large in comparison to humans. His head is clean shaven, as well as his face. Gedriel's eyes are a dark oak colour, deep and knowing.

A Clash of Interests [Warhammer 40,000] UltramarineTacticalSquadBattleBroth

Subdivision: Ultramarines

Rank: Battle Brother

Weapons/Equipment: Boltgun (10 Duplus X Magazines - 600 Rounds. The magazine selection, apart from Standard Bolts, also includes Kraken Pattern Penetrator Rounds), Two Frag Grenades, One Krak Grenade.) Short Power Sword common to Ultramarines known as a Gladius.

Biography: At 80 years Gedriel is considerably young for an Astartes, hardly a hardened Veteran yet, let alone a Sergeant. On completion of his training and induction into the Chapter as a full Battle Brother, Gedriel was assigned to the 2nd Company, under the venerable Captain Sicarius. Under the heroic Cato Sicarius, Gedriel has fought through hundreds of battles, yet despite his skill, he has yet to distinguish himself worthy of promotion. Unwilling to allow that to diminish his spirit, Gedriel fights on with all the more valour, hoping to finally earn himself the glory and appraisal he is deserved. Currently, Gedriel has been assigned to liberating a planet that has come under the bane of a Chaos invasion.

In my first post I will detail how Gedriel gets stranded on the planet which we will all end up on. I would like you all to follow that example and say nothing of being on the planet alone in your Biography. Instead, if you make one at all, put yourself in a situation which we can work on to inextricably bring you to the planet.

Character Sheet

Species: Human, Cadian

Name: Trooper Constantine Nichodemus

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Appearance: At first glance, he seems just like your average Guardsmen. Until one notices the tattoo along his left eyebrow, Eldar runes. The branded symbol on his right wrist, a symbol of brotherhood amongst Orcs. And the Imperial barcode on the back of his neck, marking him the henchman of an Inquisitor, which had a line branded through it. His right shoulder pad is a bony plate from a tyranid, a similar plate on his right thigh for added protection. He wears standard pattern Cadian flak armour, with a dark green uniform, marked with the single chevron of a senior trooper.

His dark green eyes have grown sharp and focused from his years of service, seeing things that no man should need to witness. He keeps his hair cut short, hardly a thick layer of brown stubble. Five feet eight inches tall, he is almost considered short, and he is slender for his height, a tightly muscled frame weighing hardly 170lbs.

Subdivision: 555th (The Three Nickles) Remnants Regiment, 4th Platoon, 3 Troop 3 I/C

Rank: Senior Trooper

Weapons/Equipment: C17-F 'Ultimator' Combat Shotgun with 'unsanctioned field modifications' and two fifty-round drums. Officer-issue Autopistol with extended (18) clip with the serial number conveniently scratched off by 'shrapnel graze.' Standard issue bayonet, Cadian pattern combat knife, and standard load of 2 frag grenades.

Biography: His career started in the conscript platoons at the Cadian Gate at the age of ten. A clerical error, or as someone has undoubtably explained it since, 'The Emperor's Will,' had him receive an assignment meant for a Veteran Sergeant of startlingly similiar name and service number. A twelve year old Conscript who's helmet didn't fit properly and with boots still muddy from the field showed up on an Inquisitorial Black Ship, while a very grumpy Vet Sergeant showed up at a Conscript platoon fresh to barracks from their first real campaign. The Sergeant was eventually executed for impersonating a lower-ranking NCO.

During his time with Inquisitor Hendrickson, the young conscript witnessed, held in his cross-hairs, or crossed knives with many of the Galaxy's horrors and somehow came out unscathed. Chaos cultists and traitor Guardsmen mostly, with their heretical witches and mutant pets. When his Inquisitor died preventing the summoning of an eldtritch Daemon, Constantine was released from the payrolls of the Inquisition and returned to the Guard, the tatoo on the back of his neck struck through.

He found out the hard way that his years of experience didn't carry over to the Guard, and he was unceremoniously dumped into a conscript platoon in a Remnants regiment made up of Guardsmen from dozens of planets, scrapped together from various battlefields and tossed into the path of an Ork Waaagh! near Tau space. Two years later, that little war was over with surprising success despite dark beginnings. Dark Eldar pirates boarding his troop transport enroute to the beleagured planet.

Trapped in a small, safe room in a section exposed to the vacuum of space with a dying pirate and a bottle of Amsec. Officer quarters had some nice things in them, a very valuable lesson that he would use to his advantage as his career advanced. The conversation had been frighteningly interesting, something he'd never admit to under normal circumstances. He always claims the runes over his eyebrow are a warning and insult in the Eldar tongue, to 'piss off the pointy-eared devils.'

The first few weeks of the war went equally poorly. His entire platoon was wiped out to a man against a quarter their number of Orcs until it was just the boy and a Boy. That one ended with a few drinks between the tired fighters, some very bitter humour about the fight, some good laughs. It was the oddest thing, something he'd never expect. The odd creature even branded his arm as a fellow member of his Gang. Then he remembered his gang was dead and the moment was over. Constantine was the only one to walk out of that swamp.

When that campaign ended, the Three Nickles were brought back up to strength from yet more remnants of other regiments and loaded back onto the troop ships for the next mission. He was assigned to one of the smaller escort ships as part of their security compliment, a cantacerous and poorly maintained old boat near the outter edge of the transport formation.

I made the image! Very Happy And I used Photobucket, with the [IMG][/IMG] code on the forums.

MachDhai, with that much experience there is no way I am letting your character be 19. Please put a more suitable age. Also, please tell me I read wrong and the one who gave him the Ork Brotherhood mark wasn't an Ork. And how did he get Tyranid bones for a shoulder and knee guard?

Other than that, I don't see any problems with the profile.

Well, I'm trying to put up the same type of image from a different host, and it ain't working out so well. Dangit.

Problem I see with your character, Tempest, no Battle-Brother get's their own power sword. That's something Terminators and Captains wield, really. You'd be much more likely to have a chainsword, if that.

You should check your Ultramarine Lore my good sir. A Gladius is ubiquitous amongst the Ultramarines, even the regular Battle Brothers!

The Gladius is a short sword by the way and hardly on par with a proper Power Sword.

Short Power Sword common to Ultramarines known as a Gladius.

Okay, nevermind I found it. Still the citation is a book set then thousand years before the present, and it doesn't say anything about power.

In the 41st Millennium, what good is any melee weapon without a power field? Save the legendary Chainsword, and even some of those possess one. All manner of melee crafts are sheathed in a destructive field, from the simple Mauls of the Adeptus Arbites to the Power Claws equipped on Dreadnoughts. Would you expect a Space Marine, nay, an Ultramarine to wield anything less?

... Shock mauls don't have power fields, they have shock fields. I'm telling you, the Captain of 4th Company has a power sword and that's a big thing. They are not that common, even among NCO's of the Ultramarines. Sergeants generally use chain swords, and until you can find some reference for me that a gladius has a power field, I'm still going to call 'bullshit' on it.

Just sayin'.

I didn't say Shock Maul. I said Maul, and by that I blatantly meant Power Maul since that is the type of weapon we are discussing. You should check a lore site Ferrous. The Power Maul is under POWER WEAPONS. Please do not bring my knowledge of the lore into question and I take offence to being called a bullshitter.

Here, have some references for the Power Maul.
Power Weapons - See Power Maul and read the description.
Hey look, another lore site. See Power Maul again.

Now that you can see even these relatively minor and ubiquitous weapons have power fields I am sure you can understand that a short sword which I have already stated as not being on par with a Power Sword can in fact have a Power Field. Would you expect a Space Marine to wield a weapon that would do little more than break against enemy armour when used?

A Clash of Interests [Warhammer 40,000] Empty Re: A Clash of Interests [Warhammer 40,000]

Post by Ferrous Miles Sun Aug 23, 2009 6:15 pm

Right now, I'm more worried about the fact that people aren't posting characters than whether or not you have a power field on your sword. However, since there's not much I can do to speed people up on that, let me just quote this passage taken from the page you directed me to.

Power Mauls are charged clubs often used by ranking members of the Adeptus Arbites.

Ranking members of the intergalatic police forces. That can hardly be desrcibed as ubiquitous. I do see now that there is a page for gladius on the second wiki, and that it does agree with you. However, I still say that an Ultramarine could reasonably be expected to carry a weapon that doesn't have a power field, since they aren't that common, even to Astartes.

Post by Tempest Sun Aug 23, 2009 6:52 pm

I can't think of any weapons off the top of my head, but yes, if it was formidable weapon even without a power field I can see it happening.

Also, the passage says Ranking, not high ranking, which could mean anything from Squad Sergeants and above. The Adeptus Arbites are vast in number, considering they are present on almost every world, so if you put that into perspective then yes, it is ubiquitous.

Right, now that this issue has been resolved we can move on to more pressing matters. Hopefully you will not bring my grasp of the lore into question again as I always ensure that I have proof, as you have no doubt witnessed.

I've posted in the interest check to make sure people find out and if we don't get any attention I will PM people. 5 people (excluding me) voted in that poll and so far only two have turned up.

Character Sheet

Species: Human, Gue’vesa

Name: Alixander Rothe

Age: 30

Gender: Male

Appearance: Alixandar is a large man, standing at about 6’5 and weighs about 260 pounds; large for a human, but not for a soldier. When he was born he was implanted with growth hormones to enhance his muscles and bone structure, just like all other humans being conscripted for military service. He is very well built, but certainly not by Imperial Astartes standards. A broad chest and thick arms and legs are the telling traits of his career. His hair is cut close, but not as short as the traditional military style. The pitch black hair is bereft of gray. Alix has bright blue eyes that are full of knowledge, command respect, and seem to know everything about you as soon as they lock with your gaze. Alix has a weathered face, deeply tanned and scarred from years of service. He seems to always look like he hasn’t shaven in a few days, despite how much he shaves. His hands are calloused from years of conflict, yet his stride is full of confidence and pride, unlike younger soldiers who are shaken by what they have seen. Tall, broad shouldered, and proud, Alixander has the look of a man who has seen countless battlefields and can still laugh over a few bottles of beer on leave.

Subdivision: 101st Damocles Uash’o, 1st Company, 3rd Platoon

Rank: Lieutenant

Weapons/Equipment: Alix carries a pulse carbine with an underslung photon grenade launcher, integrated scope, and top mounted markerlight. He also carries EMP grenades for dealing with vehicles, and a few Frag granades. He carries a Pulse Pistol as a side arm, and a Kroot combat blade. The tribal weapon was given to him after saving a Shaper’s life from an Ork Nob. The blade is about two and a half feet long, curved forward toward the tip. The word Tau’va, which literally means Good Greater, is etched on the blade, just above the hide wrapped hilt. Various small bones and beads are sewn into the hide by the previous owner.

Alix’s armor is composed of a mixture of Imperial and Tau carapace armor. His torso and arms are covered by Tau armor, with the exception of the shoulders. His legs and his left shoulder are covered by standard Imperial Carapace armor. His right shoulder is protected by the traditional “shield” plate worn by Tau Fire Warriors. His helmet is a little of both. It is an Imperial shocktrooper helmet with a respirator and visor, but with a Tau communications system built in and an antenna poking up at the right side. Alixanders helmet is hardwired with a Blacksun Filter, and a Target Lock. His power backpack is also of Tau design, and a Bonding Knife is sheathed on the right side, signifying that he and his Platoon has undergone the Tau ritual of Ta’lissera. Under all of the armor Alix wears solid black fatigues. The whole armor is colored in the traditional Tau yellow orange, but with black stripes on his gun, shoulders and legs marking him as Gue’vesa. He also has a badge of rank on his chest, above his heart, and his right shoulder bears the symbol of the Tau Empire. His left shoulder has a depiction of a winged skull.

Biography: Alixander Rothe was selected for military service from birth. He was given growth hormones to increase his effectiveness as a soldier, and instructed on military tactics, history, tradition, and weaponry from an early age. He was placed within a squad of ten boys when he was fifteen years old, and was given a lasgun and a flak vest. He was a part of the 101st Damocles Uash’o Regiment, and due to his excellence in the classroom instruction, was granted leadership over the twenty boys. He wasn’t a Sergeant yet, none of the boy had ranks. They were a labor force mostly, and spent their time training, working, running, sweating, and more working. They helped factories and farmers in the Damocles area, and didn’t ascend into full soldier status until they were eighteen. It was then that Alixander Rothe became the Sergeant of ten men, all of whom he had formed a tight bond with over the past three years. Their first combat experience came ten months later, when the regiment was deployed against an Ork infestation. Alixanders platoon took the brunt of the heavy fighting, and it was after this short but bloody campaign that Alix and his man took part in the Ta’lissa. Many Tau officers came to witness this, for being a Tau tradition it was quite a sight to see humans adopt it. The officer of the 3rd Platoon had been killed in action, and Alixander was promoted for courage and valor on the battlefield to replace him.

A Clash of Interests [Warhammer 40,000] Empty Re: A Clash of Interests [Warhammer 40,000]

Post by Tempest Mon Aug 24, 2009 9:46 am

Excellent character sheet Musta, I like the idea of a Gue'vesa on the field. Right, since your profile needs no changing we will get straight to discussing how you appear on the planet which will also probably build part of the setting as it would have to be close to Tau space due to their lack of high distance/speed space travel. I read your PM and I like some of the ideas which have helped me put together the following story. Tell me what you thing.

On the Western Fringes of Tau Space (where the Gue'vesa are most frequent) remnants of Hive Fleet Kraken have begun yet another attempt to consume Tau worlds. While Fire Warriors and Kroot fight a desperate battle on the assailed planet's, Tau warships engage with the Hive Fleet in space. During the battle, one ship, a Kir'qath Class Escort vessel, which carries a detachment of Gue'vesa (including Alixander's squad) sustains heavy damage which sees the Bridge command slaughtered. Alix, who was on patrol outside the bridge with his men, rushes in to find the devastation. Knowing that he cannot hope to pilot the ship with his men, despite his rudimentary knowledge of ship control, he opts to jump away in order to save the wounded ship and its crew, who would be helplessly massacred should the craft be boarded.

The damaged Kir'qath Escort Ship makes the random jump on Alixander's command and emerges from its Warp 'dive' to find itself in dangerously low orbit of a strange planet. The damage sustained in the battle, along with the sudden gravitational forces of the planet means that the ship is being torn to pieces and will not be able to pull out of orbit in time. Alix commands everyone to the emergency escape Life pods. Alix makes it off the ship in a Life Pod just as the gravitational forces tear it in two. Along with a dozen other pods Alix and his men plummet towards the planet.

The pods are scattered due to the hasty launch and Rothe's smashes down into ancient ruins amidst the dunes of a desert. Clambering from the ruins of the pod, Alix quickly finds that he is the only survivor and hurries to seek cover from the harsh sand storms. On his way to cover he notices a crashed Starfighter, painted in proud blue and bearing the emblem of the Ultramarines. Curious and cautions, Alix makes his way into the building closest to the crashed fighter.

Well, how do you like it? I'll leave all the description and minor details to you once you make the post and obviously you'll end off in a position where we will immediately begin to interact with each other, although you will mention nothing of seeing my character. Although I don't really like posting orders, for now this means you will be the second person to post after me, but it doesn't have to stay that way.

A Clash of Interests [Warhammer 40,000] Empty Re: A Clash of Interests [Warhammer 40,000]

Post by Guest Mon Aug 24, 2009 12:23 pm

Character Sheet

Species: Eldar (Craftworld Ulthwé, originally)

Name: Tinuviel

Age: 224

Gender: Male

Appearance: More slender than a human, more angularly featured with a smaller nose and mouth, Eldar tend to stand out. Longer fingers, longer limbs and pointed ears also contrast with humanity.

Harlequins are a subsect of the Eldar, mysterious and extremely dangerous; few in the Imperium have encountered them. They are notable for the dexterity with which they fight, the hologram-masks that display demonic visages and seem to enhance the fear of their enemies and the vision-bending suits they wear, that normally appear as a jester's outfit, with a pattern of different colored diamonds, tight fitting, but with frills and flares in various places, something that creates the impression of androgyny and no doubt will disturb Imperials. They eschew armor.

Subdivision: Harlequin (eld: Rillietann)

Rank: Trouper

Weapons/Equipment:

Harlequin's Kiss - brathu-angau, the kiss of doom - a close combat weapon that injects a monfilament wire that uncoils and lashes around in the insides of the victim; it is injected with such force from the launcher that it can usually penetrate armor. It's a nasty way to go.
Flipbelt - An anti-gravity field that assists the Harlequin in movement and acrobatic feats.
Mask of Fear - This typically shows different visages in combat, particularly of one's slain comrades in the throes of their own deaths. Unsettling to say the least, as well as having some psychic amplification powers that enhance the fear of the Harlequin.
Fusion Pistol - Harlequin standard sidearm
Holofield - the suit a Harlequin wears in place of armor; it projects a field of distortion and illusion to make the enemy miss their shot against the unarmored Harlequin. Needless to say, they live by their reflexes.

Biography: These things generally are not revealed, particularly to Humanity.

Tykrieg, awesome character, good to have a second Astartes about.

Do you have any ideas about how your character will arrive on the planet?

Heyseuss, Harlequin is absolutely acceptable! Go ahead.

Glad to see you both here.

Cool beans, Harlequin it is. I really did want to do something utterly unusual.

Everything but the Harlequin's Kiss is standard issue, but I listed the kit there anyway. None of it enhances, except the Harlequin's kiss, beyond the baseline Harlequin trouper, and the Kiss is considered an item of gear that any Harlequin can have. I consider it the iconic item of Harlequin kit, after the masks. Wink

Excellent, we can begin as soon as we talk about the way you are going to get to the planet.

So far only Musta and myself have confirmed our methods, but the rest of you still need one.

Do you have any ideas or shall I create the scenario for you?

Edit: Hey Ferrous, I just read over your profile and I noticed you put Power Claw in there. The only thing that I know of as going by that name is the Power Klaw, which is an Ork Weapon. Did you perhaps mean Lightning Claw?

I'd say that the Harlequins were part of a strike force of Eldar that got mauled/got the job done and got out. Tinuviel got cut off. Perhaps something happened to the webway before he could follow the rest of the strikeforce, including his fellow Harlequins.

Assuming that was the case, he doesn't know the way back via the webway and has elected to instead find another way off the planet and to another planet with a webway he does know.

The other option is that something happened in the webway (which is partially in the Warp) to cut him off from his fellows, which leaves him stranded.

Probably Decius is a remnant of a Raven Guard Company who got fried in nearby space, and all they could do was Drop-Pod to the nearest Planet. All of Decius' squadmates either fell into Space or got burnt up on impact.

Great ideas Heyseuss.

Since there is a reason behind them all being stranded, which I won't reveal yet, can we go with the happening in the Webway? I'd prefer if he hadn't been to the planet yet in all honesty. How about he is travelling through the Webway, with or without fellows, I don't mind, when he notices something out of a place, an armoured figure disappearing around a corner. He take off after them and notice that they are an Astartes of the Thousand Sons. Fearing that it is Ahriman attempting to breach the Black Library of Chaos once again he takes pursuit. Slowly the figure draws him away from the safer paths of the Webway to where there is a collapsed Portal. He goes to engage the being in battle when suddenly he is caught by eldritch powers from beyond the collapsed portal and flung into the warp, to emerge on the planet. It is preferable if you find yourself in the area of ruins that we are all starting.

You like?

Also, Tykrieg, I don't like the sound of that because it has horrific implications on lore, due to such a massive loss to the Raven Guard who are always short handed as it is. The loss of almost a hundred Marines would be too much.

I would prefer something along the lines of fighting somewhere, perhaps one of those behind-enemy-lines that the Raven Guard are so famous for when Decius is stranded from his squad in a battle? Perhaps if you are in a city a building collapses, separating you? I don't know, I'll leave the details to you. Anyway, your character sets off and finds some bizarre temple like structure and enters. As he does so he noticed too late a ritual of cultists who open a warp portal which sucks him in. He is then flung out on the planet, like I said before, preferably near or in the ruins. Obviously not right next to the others but still.

Better?

Also Tykrieg, I made you something. That picture you posted is of the Space Sharks, not the Raven Guard, so I made you an accurate character profile. Red trim is for Assault Squad and so is the symbol. Beakie helmet with the red stripe and old leg armour, which is common on the Raven Guard.

A Clash of Interests [Warhammer 40,000] RavenGuard-AssaultSergeant

Hope you like it! Smile

That'd definitely divert Harlequins; they know the Thousand Sons are after the Black Library.

We can go that way then. He gets separated while they're chasing some Thousand Sons in the webway.
