Starting a new quarter
Hey guys, this is a heads up for all of you. I will not be as active as I have been, due to starting a new quarter (no, not semester - my school's weird and year-round).
My school schedule:
Monday and Wednesday 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Tuesday and Thursday 3:00 PM - 8:30 PM
I'll still be here, of course, when I'm home (and maybe even in class, if I can be), but I'm sure my staff can hold down the fort when I'm away.

Re: Starting a new quarter
Thanks! Lol I think you have that backwards, Agenda! XD
I'm taking Game Modeling & Animation, a Seminar in Mathematics, Capstone, and Animation Layout & Scene Design. Basically, I'm taking 2 classes where I'll be to be modeling things in 3D, one class that requires research papers, and one for math. Bleh.

I dunno, some of those classes sound kinda fun. I don't think I'd be any good at them, since my 'specialty' leans more towards technical operations than artistic ones, but fun all the same. 'cept the math one. Bleck.
I've heard of Capstones before... a bunch of people in another college I visited talked about theirs all the time. But my college doesn't have them. o:

Re: Starting a new quarter
They're fun for people that either enjoy doing that sort of thing or are good at it. I'm neither, unfortunately. It usually ends up being more stressful and frustrating for me, since I'm a horrible 3D modeler, let alone animator. D:
Oh, have you? I haven't heard good things about Capstone before, so I'm guessing that's probably a good thing for you that you don't have them hehe!

Re: Starting a new quarter
Do you have to take the classes for your major, then? At least they might help you get better at the modeling!
Yeah, I'm pretty glad I don't have to do a Capstone, based on what I've heard them complain about. I know I'll have to do some sort of senior thesis paper, though, and I haven't the faintest idea what I'll end up doing for that. Thank goodness it's two years away.

Re: Starting a new quarter
Yeah, hehe, and actually, those classes are apparently what my major is all about. I didn't realize that though until it was far too late. I thought my major, Game Art and Design, was more...well, art. In the end, it was about 3D modeling, which is scary haha. I'm just going to graduate and get my degree now though, and see where I go from here!
Ahh, a senior thesis? Hehe well, I hope that you think of something perfect. That's good though that you still have so much time to think about it at least.

Have fun at school. I guess. Or something.
I'm a professional student. I enroll in a program, and after a year and a half I quit and try to enroll in something else. >.<
So far I've been a computer programmer and a umm.. a nothing really, I was just taking random course for a year there. I hope this English thing pans out. if not, CLOWN COLLEGE!

Lol thanks, Diodri. I'll try.
Aw, well I can understand how you probably feel. *hugs* Lol clown college! I, too, still feel undecided what I'd really like to do. It's not easy being in that situation.

Re: Starting a new quarter
Capstone itself is "one of the finishing or protective stones that form the top of an exterior masonry wall or building. If you look at your education in terms of building blocks, this definition applies to the world of education just as much as architecture."
I'm not sure what the class is like at other schools (and I frankly wouldn't be surprised if it was totally different, as my school is rather odd when it comes to all things), but at my school, I hear it's a class to do a lot of research papers in. I can't remember what type of research papers we'll be doing, but I'm assuming they'll relate to our major.

Re: Starting a new quarter
I updated my schedule. Since I dropped my insane math class (thank GOD), I won't be in school till 5:00 on Mondays and Wednesdays. AND, since I have such an awesome/amazing teacher for my nightly class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the latest he said he'd keep us is 8:30 (instead of 9:30, when the class is supposed to be over)! So, I'm quite happy about that.
Nevertheless, I still have a pretty big workload in terms of homework. I have a ton of drawings to do this quarter, and I'm all on my own for my nightly class. (We could choose to work in teams for our project, which is a massive project we work on all quarter, but I decided I wanted to do my own idea and not have to come up with something different with someone else). So, if I'm not on FOG when I'm out of school, I'm probably just drawing and doing my homework. I'll try and be online though as much as I can.
Also, I really hope my school and school work don't effect my RPs. I probably will be slower than I was when I was on summer break though.

What was the focus of that math class? Algebra, geometry, calculus, differential equations, etc.? If you do end up having to take it in the future, I'm sure I might be able to help you out.

Re: Starting a new quarter
It was actually on personal finance, which I found would be very useful and helpful for the future, since we were going to talk about saving and home loans and such, but just like with my Astronomy class I had with that teacher, I was doing some much homework, that I didn't have time to learn anything. XD I wouldn't mind taking that class next quarter, so long as it's with a different teacher that understands her class isn't the only class her students take.
Re: Starting a new quarter
Oooh, well I wouldn't be of much help in that type of class.
I do know what that is like, it pretty much sums up all of my design studios. Our professor for last semester's studio actually said, "There is nothing wrong with staying up here until 2am to get your work done."
<-------My reaction.
It's bad enough having to pull very late nights/all nighters during our charrette week. I don't have the fortitude to do that throughout the semester.
You know... I have a bunch of my older studio work hanging up in my room. Perhaps I finally found a topic for a webcam video. *Strokes imaginary beard and ponders*

Re: Starting a new quarter
Oh, wow. I can't believe your professor in your last semester said that! I would have had the exact same reaction lol. I didn't think instructors actually encouraged that. I really don't think that's a healthy way to learn, and after all, that's why we go to school, isn't it? To learn? Not do bogus BS haha.
Oooh, lol, I think you're definitely onto something! I would like to see it!

Re: Starting a new quarter
(mini rant)
Something that gets me, is that when I went in to my advisor, I had planned on telling her about this bad teacher (whom I've had before). I figured, they would want to know. I felt as if there were many other students that dreaded being in one of her classes, simply because she cannot teach and only offers loads of homework. So, when I was explaining my reasons why I wanted to drop out of her math class, I told her about the excessive workload, and then at the end, I had said something about how I wanted a different math teacher, and planned on explaining why, but this advisor gave me a dirty look and said, "Well...we'll just forget you said that."
I was like...
My school has done this sort of thing before. They treat their students (in all things) like children, rather than adults. In this case, evidently my opinion wasn't valid or wanted. I was speaking out of term about something that was "naughty." How could I possibly be allowed to have a negative opinion of any of my teachers? Clearly, I was very wrong.
I really just dislike this school, and yet, somehow, The Art Institutes are some of the most well known art schools in the country.
