The people of Xatl have long heard this creation story, or several versions of it. However, the truth of it has been lost to legend, never to be discovered again…

The year is 2440, and two rivaling countries each scramble to send a research team to a nearby planet, Barotyn, whose dense atmosphere leaves it shrouded in mystery. What they find there will forever change the past – and future – of the Xatlian race.

Enclosed in these Archives is a Compendium of Information and All the Discoveries made as the Xatlians travel to and explore Barotyn.

atleric -- relating to the atmosphere, especially for vehicles, crafts and ships

Black Sea -- common term for outer space, more prevalent toward Somhai

^CAPTLAN
captlan -- a B.T.N. military rank equivalent to captain

^CENTIXAT
centixat -- one hundredth of one xat. (pronounce X as Z) Roughly equivalent to an Earth centimeter. The symbol for centixats is cx.

^HOKO
Hoko -- a diverse Xatlian plant most commonly associated with the warm, dark beverage of the same name

^LXTENANT
lxtenant -- a B.T.N. miiltary rank equivalent to lieutenant. (pronounce X as Z)

^SPATIA
spatia -- up, forward and out; the direction of antigravity

^SPATIAN
spatian -- having to do with moving in an antigravitational direction. also, informally, having to do with outer space

^SPATIPLACEAN
spatiplacean -- Xatlian scientific term for outer space. The concept is that of an ocean rather than an expanse of nothingness.

spatiplaceanic -- relating to outer space, especially for spacecraft and space voyages

^{SPATIPLACOLOGY}
spatiplacology -- the study of outer space, especially for exploration and colonization

^TERRITAL
territal -- relating to ground territories. This word is mostly used by the B.T.N. to describe inter-territory organizations or ground-based military.

^TRAHEDRON
Trahedron -- a style of marksmanship that originated in the B.T.N. The style incorporates point-shooting and a one-handed, sidelong stance. Like fencing with a gun.

^XAT
xat -- a standard Xatlian unit of measure relative to Xatl's equatorial circumference. (pronounce X as Z) Roughly equivalent to an Earth meter. The symbol for xats is x.

Barotyn is the fifth planet in the seven planet solar system.

The planet is slightly farther from the sun than Xatl, but the volcanic activity keeps it warm. It's days are shorter, being 19.3.36 hours long for a full rotation. It takes longer for Barotyn to cycle around the sun, which makes it's weather slower to change. There is a decrease of nitrogen on the planet of Barotyn, which makes fires much easier to ignite and spread. It has a high amount of volcanic activity and its upper atmosphere is filled with ash.

The probes that have taken back pictures and samples have shown a plethora of bioluminescent plant life, from large trees to flowers to strange vegetation. There is also evidence of severe tropical storms in certain parts of the planet. There are believed to be large bodies of water, though one has not yet been located.

So far, there is no sign of intelligent life. However, when Xatlians arrive on Barotyn, they will find Barotyn humans and Barotyn’s natural inhabitants, a plethora of wildlife and a vicious race of semi sentient beings that the xatlians call the draconens.
