Nova Roma [WIP]
Part 1: The "Jerusalem" Counterfactual
- Spoiler:
- In 701 B.C., Sennacherib, king of Assyria, led his armies against the walled city of Jerusalem. His army was ravaged by disease, and the beginnings of monotheism was born. The events of the world were the divine plan of God; by His will the people prospered or despaired. When, 32 years later, King Nebuchadnezzar as the principal successor to the Assyrian empire, destroyed the kingdom of Judah, that religious faith only grew stronger. Because of the defeat of Sennacherib’s armies was viewed as the will of God, Nebuchadnezzar’s success was seen as a measure of the failure of the people of David in their piety.
The course of history is diverted...
In 701 B.C., Sennacherib, king of Assyria, led his armies against the walled city of Jerusalem. The walls of Jerusalem crumbled before the might of his army. The people of David were carried off to Babylon as slaves. The beginnings of the Jewish monotheism, let alone it’s two daughter religions Christianity and Islam, never took root.

His survival, by the aid of his friend and bodyguard, Cleitus, led to the defeat of the Persian Empire. The Hellenistic civilization flourished following the death of Alexander in 323 B.C. Notes and Disclaimers
- Spoiler:
These ideas are not entirely my own. The two counterfactuals, as well as the idea for Nova Roma in America, are from the book "What If?" It is a book of essays by numerous historians that illustrate their thoughts on how the course of history could have changed during numerous events. While the background for the story is not mine, the direction the story will take from that point will be.
This is still a work-in-progress. Details need to be added, and I am still working on the history. I will likely add something in with Asia as well, though I'm not sure the direction that will take.
