Project: Havok (Lumeus / xraineyesx) OOC
Project: Havok
-Introduction-
-Introduction-
- Spoiler:
- The day is September 28, 2012, and in three months, over four and a half billion people will die.
There is nothing out of the ordinary about the Michaux State Forest; nothing to distinguish it from the other 3,674 state parks in the United States. Authorized in 1897, Michaux State Forest sits just twenty minutes west of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and a mere two hours from Washington D.C. Nothing of interest, importance, or consequence has happened in the Michaux State Forest in over a century, and that is precisely why the United States government built Project: Havoc two hundred feet below its surface.
1957 was the year science gave birth to molecular biology, and it changed the course of human history forever.
1962 saw the first cases of mass experimentation with a technique known as “gene-splicing.” The experiments were code named Agent Orange. The results were catastrophic.
Further studies were restricted to controlled environment testing only, and the research was buried under a mountain of faux pharmaceutical companies, decommissioned military operations, and an untold amount of dead bodies.
The first case of a successful splice occurred on January 28, 1975 when the tail of an albino lab mouse grew back in under five hours. The mouse, which had been spliced with the genes of a lizard, died two hours later.
Four months later Project: Havoc was launched.
The first human trial was conducted at 2:15 P.M. on April 3, 1977. It was unsuccessful. The subject died shortly after.
Experimentation with human embryos began in 1979.
The first subject to survive gestation was born on August 23, 1983. She first displayed symptoms of advanced Glioblastoma at six months old.
The first subject to survive past the age of two was born on July 18, 1984. They first displayed abilities at the age of four.
-The Subjects-
- Spoiler:
- The subjects begin manifesting their abilities between the ages of 3 and 7. Once the scientists determine which talent the subject possesses they begin focusing all of the subject's experiments, tests, training, diet, and lifestyle toward that kinesis.
The subjects are born with an increased brain capacity. This is why they have the potential to develop powers, but it also means that can learn faster and retain more information than normal people. All of the subjects in the program are taught in numerous fields of study including geometry, trigonometry, calculus, algebra, quantum and theoretical physics, astrology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, anatomy, botany, ecology, ethology, genetics, neurobiology, physiology, zoology, climatology, meteorology, and that doesn't even get into their physical training. Art and music are recreational studies. The subjects are not given lessons over sociology, geography, history, government, politics, economics, theology, psychology, or philosophy.
The subjects learn multiple martial art styles: tai chi, bagua, northern shaolin, aikido, taijustsu, ninjustsu, and jujutsu. Those are broad terms. The training is much more refined in each discipline.
The subjects are not given names in the conventional sense. Each subject is known by a number that correlates to the sequential order of their birth into the program. The subjects are raised by Handlers, ex-military personnel that have been hired to train and guard them at all times, and the scientists that conduct the lab tests and experiments. Some of the experiments are physically and mentally painful while others merely have the subjects problem solve. Some tests are designed to determine and monitor a subject's strength and stamina, while other tests push their abilities to the extreme and involve life or death situations.
There are fifty-four subjects, and they all eat meals together, they share the same gymnasium and training facilities, they are sometimes put into groups and put through physics tests that force them to use their abilities. Males and females each have their own community shower, and sometimes they are put into combat scenarios against one another.
They males all sleep in one room and the females in another (military style). Every morning they wake up, they are herded to the showers, then to breakfast, and then either to training drills, or the lab. All Facility doors use retinal scans to open and close automatically. The doors are programed to lock if an unsupervised subject approaches.
Something to note: while physical contact between subjects is not completely restricted, it is monitored, and moreover, the scientists, lab techs, and handlers, always wear gloves when dealing with the subjects, and even then contact is minimal. The intent is to stifle any emotional attachment to the subjects.
