Missing Images [Fixed]

I'm REALLY hoping that Weiss or Fate sees this because there's no other way any of us can fix it, I believe. The enter page for the site...well... the images aren't there anymore and they've been replaced with very large "This photo has been deleted or moved" notices from Photobucket.

Yeah...that doesn't look good. Fix please?

Not only is the front page messed up for me but now the top of the board where the banner used to be is a huge 'THIS IMAGE HAS BEEN MOVED OR DELETED' image, as shown in Gunneh's picture.

All that has happened is the area that the picture has been hosted in has expired and needs to be re-hosted, preferably on a more stable program like Photobucket, unlike the one it was previously hosted on, presumably imageshack.

I've sent an e-mail to Fate asking for links or hard copies of the images so that I can fix them. I'll work on a temporary fix as soon as I can get Photoshop up and running. Since I had to reformat my PC recently, all of my graphic arts programs were, of course, wiped from my harddrive. Thus, I'll need to redownload and reinstall them before I can do anything about the issue. So, let's hope that Fate responds soon.

Also, I apologize for not being around as much lately. Tomorrow, I'll be moving and, with any luck, will be able to pay more attention to the site. Circumstances just haven't been kind to me lately. I will try to fix this issue as soon as I'm able.

In the meantime, if anyone who can still see the images could screenshot them, I can render those images to use in the case that Fate doesn't get back to me with the links in a timely manner. It'd be a rough fix, but it would be better than the giant broken link at the top of the site or on the welcome page, I'm sure.

For anyone wondering why some users can see the images and some users can't, it's because your computer (namely, your browser) caches images (stores them on a semi-permanent file) to reduce loading time when repeatedly viewing the same image. Thus, when you come back to the site, it simply remembers the last version of that image that you've loaded. Hitting the F5 key will clear the cache and reload the image. So, if you can see the images, please screenshot them before hitting the F5 key. In fact, unless you're insanely curious, just don't hit the F5 key at all...

Edit: Oh, and for the record, the broken link image says that it was hosted on Photobucket. So, the likely scenario is that Axiom was the one hosting the images and he decided to delete them. The same thing happened before with some of the icons in the navigation bar, if anyone remembers. That was easy enough to fix, but I can't exactly produce an exact replica of a complex image like the welcome page's main image or the forum's header.

Alright, I realize they look absolutely horrid, but that's the best I can do with the tools in the Photobucket toolset. Once I have Photoshop up and running, I'll work on something more appealing that won't make you all want to vomit. Hopefully, though, Fate will get back to me with links to the original images and the problem will be gone all together.

Until then, bear with it, yeah?

Edit: Seems it'll be a while before I have Photoshop up and running, and I'm to the flopping point, near-about. So, I'm going to get some sleep and I'll try to create some better graphics for the site when I wake up and before I ship out. Alternatively, Fate might get back to me before I have to make all new images, which would be absolutely fantastic, so let's hope for that!

And that's a good foggy-forest image. It's definitely a worthy stand-in, I would say.

There. I've replaced all three missing images with new versions. Let me know what you guys think. If it gets positive feedback to the effect of, "We should keep this instead of that, but bring this other thing back!" then I'll see about keeping the most liked versions of each image even if the originals become available again.

Personally, I like the old set better. Also, I'm not sure it's fair to judge when users can't really see the old set at the moment. So, perhaps, if the old set becomes available, we'll put them up against one another and see which comes out on top.

For now, though, I hope these images will keep everyone happy, at the very least.

Thanks for all your hard work, Weiss! I really like this new set, actually. The upward angle of the photo and the sunlight streaming through the gaps in the canopy, all combined with the grayscale, make a really eerie effect. But I'm fine with whatever if people feel a nostalgic connection with the old set and really want to change it, should it become available.

I like the new images too, beside the font on the text. So for me it's either the old pics or just a new font on the new. I like the sunshine effect that Silvan talked about.

Yeah you're right, MD, it's "Just my two cents." Sometimes people also say "Just my two bits," or other slight variations.

I agree with Silvan about the font. It's cool, but there could be a cooler one, I'm sure. Maybe we could check places like dafont.com for some with cool effects, or something--like maybe there's some sort of misty one... that'd be cool. ^^

I really liked Hotel Coral Essex and Birth of a Hero, but neither of them really worked well with the banner. I did some font hunting, though, and came up with a new version of the banner utilizing two new fonts. Let me know what you guys think of this version. If you still don't like it, try to be more specific about what you don't like so I'll know what to aim for and what to avoid.

Edit: It looks like Fate found the original splash image for the FOG main page. Hopefully the rest of the graphics will be restored in short order.

I like the "FOG" part, but not the footsteps of ghosts. Seems too.. I dunno. Not as creepy/edgy as the "FOG".

I agree with Attie. I also feel that "FOG" shouldn't have such a great distance from "Footsteps of Ghosts." It feels too empty between them.


Are we sticking with this new image? I don't actually like it as much as I like Fate's version. It doesn't have the same ghostly feel to it. To me, this new image feels as if it's more... hopeful than dramatic. The image also doesn't seem as crisp.

In my opinion, any lack of crispness in the image seems to be an effect of the sun beams coming through the gaps in the forest canopy, not the image itself. I really like the font and mist effects on the "FOG" part, but the font for "footsteps of ghosts" doesn't seem to mesh with it as well. I agree with Kathryn's suggestion about moving the two closer together, but only if the text would still be easily visible against the grayscale background. Of course, I'm not really one to be giving an expert opinion on computer graphics like this, as I have no experience with Photoshop or any program of the sort. In the end, my take on the situation is that it's just an image and a smaller aspect of the entity known as FOG, so I'm fine with whatever becomes the final consensus.

I agree with Silvan that the two don't look similar enough to me, but other than that, I find the new banners to be perfect! I like them so much better! The old ones were great, but these are wicked!
