Yeah. I just got it short while ago. The dial-up won't work with it, so I have to wait until I get DSL on the 11th before I can use it.

Re: Emoria Character Icons
since it's a new page...
If we need to shorten it, we can take off some of the middle, from either side of the center leafy/mossy bit.
Kalon Ordona II wrote:and here it is ^^
I'm starting to think that this, too, looks a little pixel-y... but if Weiss or someone likes it and wants to polish it or make some derivative, that'd be sweet! xD

Re: Emoria Character Icons
It is a little pixely on the edges, but I think a rougher look would work quite well if done correctly. After all, wrought iron in the middle ages wasn't exactly picture perfect. If you have a .psd file, I can take a swing at fixing it up a bit. As I said before, I think that frame matches the medieval fantasy theme really well, so I think a cleaner version would be perfect.

Re: Emoria Character Icons
I don't know what a PSD file is (photoshop something?).
All you have to do is copy it and select the spaces between stuff. It's very easy to do. It's a PNG file, so it might even save the transparency.

Re: Emoria Character Icons
Rounded off the edges a bit and tried to give it a bit more of a 3-D look. This is all I can really do with a .png image. If I could work on the individual layers and play with the effects, it would be a lot better. As you can see, the edges are still a bit pixelated, and I'm honestly not sure I made it look any more polished than before. Nothing more I can do with it, though.

Re: Emoria Character Icons
Works for me. ^^ The shadows make it look extra shiny! xD
With Sighlent's backgrounds, it'll look really cool.
Maybe I'll start making up a few. And I'll try it in different fonts. I'll see if I have the one Weiss used.
Should I make it a certain number of pixels wide? Like500 550 or something?

I've found that 550 works just fine when I'm resizing photos and things to post in the picture threads. I think 550 pixels wide would be a good one.

Re: Emoria Character Icons
Good, 'cause I don't want it to be too short, but I also want to accommodate people who might not be able to have the higher screen resolutions.
*makes mental note*:
-- elven relations history
-- Thendári race characteristics
-- Light/Shadow dichotomy/conflicts/history
-- character icon update
-- character portraits

Re: Emoria Character Icons
Here 'tis!
Now 550 pixels wide!
And here's for anyone who wants to do the heads and words.
In both images, the only white is in the background, so it should be easy as winking to turn the white into transparency.
Does everybody like this version? I think it's a whole lot less pixelated than before.
Some advice:
For whoever is doing the words, do them in a light color and border them in a darker one. This will make it so that the whole thing works no matter what color the background is. Since FOG might soon have a much lighter theme option, we want it to loog good both ways.

Re: Emoria Character Icons
Here's a sampling of the character icons!!
These are NOT NECESSARILY the icons you will use; if you want me to change the title, for example, I can do that for ya.
To speed things up, why don't we have everyone give me the titles they would like.
It should be short-ish, like the ones here, so that it'll fit.
More coming soon:

Re: Emoria Character Icons
You may want to try "Librarian of Nolwë." It has a better ring to it. ^^_^^

Re: Emoria Character Icons
I was thinking something like that, yes. xD Thanks for confirming it. ^^
There are a couple of ways to do the titles. For characters where the race is important, or if it just sounds cool, I usually base the title around the race, as with my thendári paladin. In Saila's case, that she's a librarian of Nolwë is more significant than her mixed heritage.
Basically, though, we want whatever sounds coolest. xDDD

Re: Emoria Character Icons
Yeah. I am inclined to agree. It's already obvious that she has elven blood in her by the ears, and the rest will be confirmed in the game play if one doesn't read the sheet.

Re: Emoria Character Icons
Ok, so Librarian of Nolwë.
I'll wait a day or two and then produce the updated versions. I guess I'll just do that every couple of days, but hopefully I'll get everyone's titles in before then.
Actually, I'll just make up stuff on the first batch I do along with Kathryn's update. That way it'll give people more ideas. ^^

Re: Emoria Character Icons
Here's a new one for you, Ryona. It's a better re-size of the letters.
And the rest so far.

Re: Emoria Character Icons
These all look great! Wonderful job Kalon and Ryona, for making these things possible! I can't wait to use them to link the character sheet's, and have them all in one place.

Hey Kalon, could you change mines title to The Hand of the Lady? Thanks!

Re: Emoria Character Icons
I am making a giant icon that has everyone next to each other, and is even height appropriate. When we make the last four avatars (Hello Danger, Shadow Moonseye, Blackrock's (complete version), and Caleb's (if he comes back?) then I will post it in the character sheet section!

Yes. You can also put it in your character sheet if you want to.

Re: Emoria Character Icons
I could, but I'm not sure that would be as representative of the character. It's quite vague. I guess my call for "titles" was a bit misleading; I was thinking more like a snapshot of what the character is. Face; Name; Vocation. "See the guy in the dark hood, with the glowing eyes? His name's Morgarath. He's the Lord of Shadow." "See the guy with the blue armor? His name's Dasciis Arkandis. He's a Hero of Spire." "See the girl with the pointy ears? Her name's Sailahína Carnil. She's a Librarian of Nolwë." "See the guy in the bright armor? His name's Chälan Irrdánë. He's a Thendári Paladin."Plaguewalker wrote:Hey Kalon, could you change mines title to The Hand of the Lady? If we say: "See the guy with the tiger stripes? His name's Siade Ayurent. They call him the Hand of the Lady."
Then the next person is left going: "Uh... what's that?"
"Well it's... a Tynir thing. He's like a general."
"Oh, so he's a general for the Tynir who answers to this Lady person?"
"Yeah, I guess...."
"Ah, cool. So, who's the Lady?"
"I... have no idea."
"So, basically, he's a Tynir general."
"I guess so, yeah."
The titles I was thinking of were supposed to be clear and concise. If we have to already know the character, it defeats the purpose. The icons are sort-of to be the character at-a-glance. You only find out about "The Lady" deep into the character profile, and even then, if I remember correctly, only her closest allies know the translation.
I could still change it, but I'd prefer to stick to the vocational pattern. General doesn't have to be the word we use, though.
Re: Emoria Character Icons
Kalon, now that I have an avatar, can I request one of these icons thingies as well? The title should be "Arbian Chieftain" or some such, if you have any better ideas feel free to suggest 'em

Hey, guys! Don't forget that you can still post even if you don't have one of these! There's an edit button on your post that you can use once you finally receive yours!

Re: Emoria Character Icons
That's right! Also remember, you don't have to center them in the post. They're designed to be on the left.
