The Twisted Streets of Ihaku [OOC]
Background
The country of Chidaruma is suffering a civil war. The war began as a fight over resources, involving the lower and upper provinces. The upper province is Yokujin, and the lower province called Manjin. Substances needed to survive are carefully rationed, and illegitimate street people of the city Ihaku of Yokujin province are excluded from getting a share of it.
With the threat of conscription, the streets are filled with those who want to evade conflict. Men risk harm and starvation knowing it is safer then to fight. But the gutter is a new world in itself. Gangs reign supreme, and the members are not always easy to spot. Weapons are traded, deals made, and members have been turning up dead.
In this world, people are hard to kill. Their skin is tough, regenerates quickly, and only completely severing a limb or organ can complete its disuse. On the flip side, the people of this world do not reproduce very frequently. Those who are at a prime age to reproduce are the hardest to kill, because biologically this society has a lot riding on each birth. Thus said, pregnant women and women of the age to become pregnant are almost impossible to kill. This doesn't mean they get off easy. In a society where reproduction is rare, rape runs rampant through unguarded streets. Men are slightly easier to kill, but it still not easy, and they have the plus side of being stronger in combat. Popular weapons of war include a crossbow-like weapon that instead of firing bolts shoots disks that are around 7 inches diameter, which would use air pressure to launch said disks into the neck, severing it. Attacking a weak spot like the neck is severely successful.
Since people are so difficult to kill without these special weapons (the aforementioned just one of many), murder is infrequent. If a dead body is found (that was obviously not covered by war crimes/deaths), it is usually attributed to the person wasting away, for starving a person is the only sure way to kill them, and starvation is occurring, especially in the dark streets of Ihaku.
