The Stupid Threads People Make...all too frequently.
By virtue of special request. I won't list any of mine, since I'm an arrogant asshole and there wouldn't be room even just for my top selection.
Re: The Stupid Threads People Make...all too frequently.
Lol, Fluff.
I'm not sure which threads I see a lot that could annoy me. I don't really think there are any.

Re: The Stupid Threads People Make...all too frequently.
Considering it is a thread for the sole purpose of bashing, this would be one of them.

Let's see...
"Is this the right forum?" - This one, I think, is self-explanatory.

Oh, right through the heart. *staggers*
Technically, it's a thread made to satirize a thread made for bashing. Still, I'm glad we have upstanding members of the community (like you) to keep us straight. *salutes*

I believe one of the most common, on gaming forums at least, is constantly asking when the new patch will be out.

Oh, God. WoW forums. I'm sure onenitedrive has seen quite a lot of repeated and annoying threads there. xD He's sometimes telling me about them.

...
That's because this entire thread was made solely for the purpose of making fun of that thread. Catching on yet?

Speaking of which, when is that patch coming out?

Yeah, I suspected it was making fun of that one.
Stupid threads die on their own quickly enough, though.
And if they don't, then I guess they're not that stupid after all.
Either that or we all just like posting, no matter what it's about.

The threads that I feel are most annoying (or stupid) are the ones that are created with the sole purpose of continuing an argument from a locked thread...
sometimes you just wonder if the person is capable of taking a hint...

Honestly I don't think there are that many stupid threads on this site. At least not yet.

Oh hey, Hank. Remind me what you're doing here again?
Re: The Stupid Threads People Make...all too frequently.
Does it make me stupid if I like stupid threads?
Re: The Stupid Threads People Make...all too frequently.
Naaah. It makes you fun-loving. And tolerant. Perhaps overly so.
Re: The Stupid Threads People Make...all too frequently.
The fact that this is the first thread I've seen instantly turn into a spam-fest with no real point, much less relevance to the original topic, indicates that this is probably the stupidest thread on the site. I'd congratulate you, but given your apparent aversion to stupid threads, you might feel insulted.
Still, I'll contribute, for the sake of not being one of "those" people.
I suppose the threads I hate most are:
I suppose that's enough. Ironically, two of those dislikes apply to the fundamental concept of this thread. I guess that means I'm a hypocrite for taking part in a hypocritical thread.

I suppose the threads I hate most are:
- Threads with no greater purpose than to advertise another forum of the same genre.
- Threads from people who post because they want attention. In other words, threads that flagrantly provoke argument without the justification of reasonable debate.
- Threads from people that try to be intelligent without actually knowing what they're talking about. This turns out to be the case with most Political or Religious threads; although, I haven't seen that apply to FoG, yet.
- RP threads that show zero creativity or are otherwise complete crap.
- Threads created for the sole purpose of "worshiping" one person or another. This happened on a board I was recently a part of, and, while the person being "worshiped" wasn't a bad person, the concept of a forum idol who has so few appealing qualities is frustrating on some level.
- Threads that seek to defame without justification. Opinionated bashing and the like apply here.

Meh, replying to a hypocritical thread doesn't make you a hypocrite, I would think.
This thread has gone from meaningless to mildly educational in that a lesson is being learned, on some level. The lesson? Making stupid threads about stupid threads isn't all bad, but is probably at least misguided in its attempt to draw attention to other 'stupid' threads. Such a goal, I would think, is best accomplished in the Complaints Thread, or should be discarded altogether. We can and should have grace toward people who might not have put much thought into starting a thread. The "Stupid Questions People Ask... all too frequently" thread might have been better as part of a blog or journal, or even a random conversation in the Chatterbox Thread.
The thread we're in now should draw our attention to the guidelines for Forum Etiquette, wherein is found:
Fluff probably should have said more about his topic at the beginning, if it even deserves to be its own thread. A thread like this is hazardous in that it can lead to flaming.

Re: The Stupid Threads People Make...all too frequently.
The thread itself is irrelevant. It could have been locked as soon as I made it, and it would still have served its purpose. Hint: I don't actually want a thread where people bash other threads. That seems to have eluded some of...well, just about everyone.
The point is this: FOG, which was very enjoyable when I first joined, is increasingly becoming another back-slapping good-ol'-writer's club. That sucks, because at first I was really comfortable here.

Re: The Stupid Threads People Make...all too frequently.
I'm afraid I don't understand, Fluff. How is FOG different than it was around the time you first joined? It's not even 4 months old yet. It can't have changed that much. We're still practically a new community to the internet.Fluff wrote:The thread itself is irrelevant. It could have been locked as soon as I made it, and it would still have served its purpose. OH HOW I LOVE DISCUSSION LIKE THIS
WHAT CAN WE DO TO CHANGE SOMETHING THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE?
*frustrated personal rant*
edit: I'm not insulting you, Fluff. You're actually one of the few people I see here that I think I could click with due to our similar sense of humor (from at least what I've read). I just think that if you don't think you belong somewhere, then it's time to move on and let the place continue on its way. Eh?
Re: The Stupid Threads People Make...all too frequently.
I'm going to take a swing in the dark and guess that Fluff's problem is that we aren't all stick-in-the-mud artísts who refuse to create fun and random topics for no greater reason than to provide entertainment.
The fact is, this isn't a Writers' Workshop. This is a forum community full of people who like to both write and have fun. Hell, some of them might not even like to write. However, if you were expecting this to be a place where everyone simply composes divine pieces of literature and then disappears until they're ready to weave together another masterpiece, I think you've misunderstood the purpose of a community from the start.
We didn't all gather here to show off how awesome we are. Unless I'm gravely mistaken - and if I am, please let me know so I can promptly leave - I believe this forum was established in order to bring together people with common interests and create friendships and other positive relations by sharing that commonality. We write together. We joke together. We discuss, debate and chat with one another. Between the fun, we also like to RP together and share the things we've created for constructive feedback or criticism.
If that's not what you were looking for, why did you join a forum? In any community, there will invariably be a multitude of personalities. If you're unable to accept that, then a forum obviously isn't where you should be. If you aren't comfortable here, either get comfortable or find a new place to rest. That's a matter of common sense.
You're also contradicting yourself, if I'm interpreting your intent correctly. You're unhappy with the fact that people around here are less straight-laced than you'd like, but you created a completely noncontributory thread rather than making a genuine effort to make your opinion known. Then, as a follow-up, rather than stating your opinion in a clear and comprehensible fashion, you elude the responsibility of doing so by brushing it off as a thread the purpose of which should have been obvious in spite of its clearly ambiguous nature.
TL;DR - It's a forum, obviously driven by the community which occupies it. Get over it and stop making pointless, hypocritical threads.

Re: The Stupid Threads People Make...all too frequently.
*applauds* Very well said, and right on the money.
It's quite true too that any message board will have a variety of different personalities, just as anywhere you go to congregate in real life will have a multitude of different types of people. You can't go to any one area anywhere and expect there to be only certain types of people (if that's what you're after).
To avoid any flaming that may occur, I am going to go ahead and lock this thread. To Fluff, the creator, you are certainly more than welcome to PM me at any time if you wish to discuss something about the message board. If you have any suggestions, you're also free to share them in the appropriate forum for them. :] We're here to listen and to try and make FOG as great as we can for you guys! If something is wrong, we need to hear feedback in order to try and improve what may be worth fixing. If we don't hear about it, then obviously we can't make improvements.
