Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I'm glad life is going great for you. ^^_^^
For me, it's having its ups and downs. I just got someone to work for me just to find out that the friend with whom I was going to go trick-or-treating has to work that day during the scheduled time... It's going to take a bit of effort to find someone else to hang with since she's really the only person I do that with. =\

You all talking about Halloween?
Lucky people, I'm sick, so I'm probably not going to be able to do anything on Halloween.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Laura said that she's going to try to convince Patrick- her fiancé- to go trick-or-treating with me. He has his Renaissance Fair outfit that he can wear, and it would look really neat next to my costume. I hope she succeeds. He's like a brother to me, but I've never actually like... hung out with him without Laura. It could be a learning experience.
I'm so used to it either being Laura or Laurat, but it'd be interesting to know Patrick by himself without her there. It should be fun. ^^_^^

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Hey everyone, check out what I made! xDDD
You know how everyone goes on about the Console Wars?
And you know those funky little COEXIST bumper stickers you see everywhere?
Well, I got inspired.
Awesome, right? xDDD
Or, if you prefer:
What'ch'y'all think? It'll take the gaming community by storm!!!

Kalon, that's amazing! I love it! Just because I'm not a gamer doesn't mean I can't understand it. ^^_^^

Yes!! I totally want to show the world! It'll spark a revolución!!
Does anybody have any recommendations? Any sites where I should post this? xD

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
That's where my expertise fails. However, when you do find a place, I would suggest showing the second one, or it could be a little confusing. The text behind the controllers really helps.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
That's what I was wondering about, so it's good to get an outside opinion.
I already know what the word is, so I naturally see the "COEXIST" without the letters behind it.
Now... who else will come and see my revolutionary spark of geeky-game-y-awesomestuffofdoom?
Maybe I should have put this in its own topic...

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
You should have used a playstation 1 and a playstion 2 controller for the T.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I used Playstation 2 and Playstation 3. Those two are active; few people if any still play PS1. Also, both PS2 and PS3 are black, which makes it look nice.
And then there's...
Well, I might as well explain them all.
Every major console gaming company has been represented: Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Sega.
Nintendo has the most, because--let's face it--it actually does have the most. And because the Gamecube makes a good C, the N64 is the only possible E, and the NES is the only possible I.
Gamecube for being the Perfect Controller (next to Xbox 360), and for the curve that makes it a good C.
Dreamcast for Sega, and the O.
N64 for things like 3D gaming, and as the only possible E.
Xbox 360 for the current Microsoft, and as the perfect X. (It's got an X right there in the middle of it, even.)
NES for the history, the retro gamers, and as the only possible I.
Wii for the current Nintendo, and as the only conceivable S.
PS2 & PS3 both for the current Sony, and for a convenient and awesome-looking T.
All the controllers are important and instantly recognizable. Plus they're all grey-scale, making the colorful buttons stand out.
I should make a T-shirt of this!

So, Fate....any ideas on what and when the next contest is/will be?

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Meet Olga Kay and Taryn Southern, two of the HOTTEST ladies on YouTube. Now normally, these girls wouldn't ask their loyal viewers to go out of their way to help them, but they've decided to take part in a large YouTube contest called the Lashes to Riches Contest. Now, the winner of the Lashes to Riches Contest gets $100,000, but Taryn and Olga are doing something much better with their money:
1. They're donating most of this money to the PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) Foundation. PKD is a disease that causes cysts to form on the kidneys which ultimately leads to kidney failure and affects over 12.5 MILLION people worldwide, and there is currently no treatment or cure for this disease.
2. They're giving YOU $500 a DAY for the best comment to their daily QUESTION OF THE DAY!
Now, just go ahead and think of what you could do with $500. Want a few dozen video games? Their yours. Want some AWESOME new instruments and equipment for your new band? I'd recommend a nice Mesa Boogie tower. Hell, would you like to get it changed into one dollar bills and pennies so you could fill up your bathtub? It might be a little weird, but why the hell not?? You've got money now, so you can always buy new friends!
Anyways, here's how it works: Every day, go ahead and take a look at that video for the newest question of the day (go ahead and skip to about 2:05 because it should be around there somewhere). Think long and hard for a nice, funny answer and then comment and rate the thing! Each comment and rating counts as one vote and you can only vote once a day.
Easy money, pretty girls and helping out a good cause: Seems like an ok waste of a few minutes of my day for the next 19 days
P.S. If you're part of the DeFranco Nation like myself, I'm expecting you to vote! If you didn't know, sxephil himself is a victim of PKD, so go out there and support him! Join the PKD NATION!

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I'm still not certain how the hell you get $500 from this....
I mean, the chances are just that astronomically small…
Did find the comment about the band equipment funny since I want a new bass… but anyone who has ever looked into Warwick knows that $500 is just a fraction of the cost. ~laughs~

Thanks. Unfortunately I'm afraid I won't be as active as I'd like to be because of real life, but I'll still be popping around the OOC threads.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Sooo stoked! My idea for the writing contest is starting to come together - in my head at least lol! Just have to make that deadline!

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Good luck! Sorry the block of time for writing is so short, but we figured it was only going to be a small contest to tide people over and give them something to work at. That's also why the length cap is so small, as well.
If there are too many participants who can't make the deadline, I'll propose some revisions to the usual rules to see if we can accommodate them. For now, though, try your best, and good luck with your entry!
In other news, we need ideas for how to promote the IRC chat room! There's never anyone in there, and I really feel like an active chat room would brighten up the community a bit. If anyone comes up with anything, feel free to toss the idea in here. Just try to make it something that doesn't involve competition or prizes or anything, since we already have a contest going and can't really afford something else of that variety for a little while.
Um...something like an advertising campaign that will get people moving into the chat room! I suppose I could start being around in there. That might help a little bit, since people would see at least one face around when they join the room. I'll have to download IRC again so I can keep track of when there are new messages.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I personally believe that everyone can make the deadline if they try; however, that's assuming a lot of things. People have schedules outside of the site, so even a 3,000 word short story might be hard to pull off if you account for time to gather ideas and the like. For that matter, writing something that's only 3,000 words long might be even harder, since you have to figure out what to and not to include to cut it down to 3,000 words.
I suppose that, in itself, is another challenge of the competition.
Anyway, I'm definitely not against it if there's a call for it. Just don't assume it'll happen, because it's not my decision to make.
Hang in there, and write up something I'll enjoy! I'm looking forward to this contest's entries even more than the last.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I'm waiting to get in 'The Zone' before I write anymore. I can write at any time, it's just not always good.
And about the chat... those kind of scare me. When put on the spot I can either say something extremely funny, witty or stupid. Usually the latter. My reputation would go down the drain if I became active in there.
Wait... what reputation am I even talking about?

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Your reputation right now is being cute and cheery, as far as I can tell. I don't think that would change much if you frequented the chat room. If anything, you're the kind of person we could stand having around in there to keep everyone else in a good mood...!
...which is basically my intent behind getting the chat room active. I was thinking this site could use something to really let everyone connect with one another. Somewhere to just idly chat and have fun. Delayed-response mediums only go so far. I figured it would be nice to chat in real time, since that also makes it easier to get to know one another.
I guess it's a huge assumption that everyone would get along and enjoy it, but I've always seen good things come out of having a chat room for the members of a forum community, so I wanted to give it a shot.
It's just a matter of figuring out how to get everyone to try it out.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
What if we bribed people? Elric said he would don the cat ears if I went on a date with him. So we offer up a picture of neko Elric for every 5 new people that frequent the chat and then for every 10 new people we offer a picture of you!
There was a few people disappointed because they missed out on seeing you last time, it's a good incentive... -waggles eyebrows suggestively- <--Why don't we have an emoticon for this?
But seriously, I've got nothing at the moment. I will think on it though.
