When there's nothing to do...
And it's late at night...
The best thing to do...
Is go to sleep.

Poems don't have to rhyme, jackass. ^o_~^ It was crappily poetic, Kalon.
I'm actually writing a poem myself, but I'm stuck on the last two lines.

I'm terrible at poetry. Ooh, you should share yours when you finish, Kathryn. ^^

Kalon...
You sound like an ex...
You even live around the same area as he does...
This makes me feel very awkward...

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I used to be really big into writing poetry when I was younger! Even had some published here and there, but my brain has much since deteriorated since my younger days. Here's something I wrote forever ago but I thought I would share. It was one of the last things I wrote really and no poetry doesn't have to rhyme to be considered poetry.
"It makes no sense
why we keep running in circles
whenever
all we really have
to look forward too
is counting up the skeletons lost in closets
and
throwing these long
dead bodies into boxes.
They tossed me between
the sakura blossoms of spring
as opposed
to the much favored winter
as I suppose
they'd
far figured out by now
that my heart was cold enough."

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
I decided to enter this writing contest on another site rather last minute. I was debating between a poem or a story since one can have one or the other. I'm a terrible poet, but I found it impossible for me to write a story that was less than one thousand words ((the limit on that site)), and I refused to butcher a perfectly good story just to make it fit the requirements. Plus, I didn't have a good plot.
In the end, I decided it would be fun to create a poem with each line being one of alliteration. I decided that I would make each line have the same number of words, and each line would feature one letter of the alphabet as its main. I also decided to make sure that I couldn't make the main letter/sound appear to be the main more than once.
I dare you to say any of these lines five times fast. ^o_~^
~*~*~*~*~*~*
"The Carnival's Freak Show"
Silently, the summer sun shines upon slouching persons.
What interesting activities tempt through the sweltering heat?
Has the horrid hotness harassed the hardy enough?
Was the whispering rumor woven of weirdness wasted?
Nay! They know of the mentally neglectful nourishment!
A carnival is close! Courageous creeps confound them!
The Bearded Lady bears her bust ((not breasts))!
A gentle giant glorifies his ungracefully grand growth!
The perturbed people peer upon the profound performances.
An Elephant Man exuberantly exhibits his elaborate illness!
A mighty midget moves merrily in marvelous madness!
Delightful dancers dance daintily to a dreadful dirge!
A fantastic feast features foreign and familiar foods!
Jubilant jesters juggle and joke of their journeys!
Yokel youngsters yowl at the yawning, yellowing yeti.
At last, the lethargic loafers listlessly leave late.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Nice use of alliteration, Kathryn! Good luck in the contest! That was a really fun read! ^_^
Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Yeah. A lot of people on that website are terrible writers, and the stuff I've read makes me have a bit more hope. However, there are a couple of diamonds in the rough, so it's still anyone's game. I hate to be... what's the word... pompous(?), but the fact that mine actually is fun to read could really help my chances. Even some of the well written stories are rather... bland.
I wish that I could attach a voice recording of how it should be read to the poem because I have this really awesome idea in my head of how it should sound, but I not only lack a mic, I also lack a fast enough internet to load such a thing.
Oh well. Hopefully whoever reads it has the right idea, especially the person who is to be the judge.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
Ah, yeah. Well, your writing is on my favorites list...in my brain. :] I don't think it's really pompous of you. It's great to be happy and proud of your writing! That's something that a lot of people hope to achieve.
Oooh, a voice recording of it would be really neat, so that you could actually hear it in the way it's meant to be read. I'm sure people will still enjoy just reading it silently though. I did.

Re: The Chatterbox Thread
It depends on the level of comprehension people have. Some people can't understand something unless they hear it out loud, and I used words that I anticipate many on that site wouldn't understand and wouldn't have the patience to at least find a dictionary to learn the meaning. I'll just have to wait until Monday or Tuesday when the event ends. =3
