D&D 3.5E: A Shadow Stirs
Far to the north a shadow stirs. From the frozen wastes rises an enemy of epic proportions. For years the Vrak have bided their time and gathered their strength. Now it is the time for them to sally forth from their castles of ice and snow and begin their reign on the lands that have been denied them.
Right now I’m laying down the ground works, finding my players, and listening to any ideas you may have.
The 16 Questions
Please, use the sheets from Myth-Weavers. You may have to register, but it’s a short process, and well worth it. Feel free to ask me any questions.
This is an interest check. No need to put characters up, but if you want me to take a look feel free. Mounts may be necessary, and magic items are a very good idea. Even if you’ve never, ever played D&D and before I’ll help you out.

The 16 Questions
- Spoiler:
1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)?
Dungeons and Dragons, 3.5E.
2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)?
Homebrewed campaign setting; Medieval
3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many?
Four to five players.
4. What's the gaming medium?
We’ll be playing here on FOG.
5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?
Each player will be given 15,000 XP to start with.
6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?
Players will be given 9,000 gold with which to purchase equipment.
7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes?
I'd prefer a balanced party (Meat Shield, Healer, Arcanist and Trap Monkey) or we won't get too far. No psionicists, Classes from the PHB (1 and 2), and any of the “Complete” books are fine.
8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?
All core races, monstrous races (If you’ve got a good reason.) and the races from Races of the Wild/Destiny/Stone.
9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?
Ability scores are generated using the normal, 4d6b3 Format. For those unfamiliar with the rules, it means roll four six sided dice and drop the lowest roll. Reroll all dice if your highest score is 13 or less or if your total modifiers are +0 or less. Alternately you may use a 25 Point buy. Max Hp for first level and roll dice for any subsequent levels.
10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?
Yes, this game uses alignment and players are expected to play their characters accordingly. Evil are not allowed.
11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?
Yes, I permit multi-classing. Do not take this to the extreme with complex character builds. Some optimization is desired but I want you to be realistic in your choices. Experience penalties WILL be enforced. Power-gamers, Rules Lawyers and Min-maxers will be severely punished.
12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?
Use the dice roller at http://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm . Players will perform any rolls for skills and I'll reroll if I find anything suspect, but I'll do any that need to be kept secret. I do trust players to play honestly, and maturely.
13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.
Yes, I will not be giving out XP, but I will give levels when I believe the group/player has met the requirements. I will also give out RP points that can be spent for a reroll, etc.
14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)?
Yes. You are required to submit a reasonably detailed description of appearance, personality, and background. No less than one paragraph in length, each.
15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?
The game will be predominantly roleplaying, with some hack and slash and a few puzzles.
16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?
Players can use the core books (PHB, DMG, MM), Races of the Wild/Destiny/Stone, and any of the “Complete” books.

Fifth level if your Level Adjustment is 0.

LA + 2 = 3
Etc.

Re: D&D 3.5E: A Shadow Stirs
I'd be interested in joining, though I should ask this before I'm too gung-ho about getting signed up. Would you be opposed to my playing a Drow? The last three times I've played any D&D medium (PnP, another RP and then NWN2) I've tried to play a Drow, but every time the game ends up flopping before it's really taken off to begin with.
To give a general overview of the character, so you'll know whether or not I'm one of those Drizzt fans who just wants to play a copy-cat of him (though I've never so much as read one of the stories involving him...):
He's a Drow of Eilistraee, and he's a Hexblade. At one point, I wanted him to be a Paladin, but I decided that was stretching it a bit too much. I just like the whole "contrast of character" concept, so I tend to try and play upon that. Anyway, Hexblade, typical story of being raised in one of the above-ground Drow communities of Eilistraee followers. Hexblade abilities caused some trouble, he was ousted from the community because everyone thought he was "cursed", made his way to some city (depending on the campaign setting you're using) and grew up as a thief, then a mercenary when he learned (as much as a Hexblade ever does) to use his dark magic.
Alternatively, I could give him a totally Drow-polar personality and make him quirky and sociable, if that would be preferred. Regardless, he'll be wielding a two-handed sword, and I figure he can work as something of a melee, damage-dealing type and/or off-tank, situationally.
Voila. Very typical Hexblade story, so him being a Drow is really only because I have an obsession with making characters who have white hair, and will commonly create a very length reason for why it is so just to have that trait. Also, I'm not fond of the other Elven races, so using one of them is unappealing to my tastes. Dwarf or Drow FTW.

I'm not a fan of (playing) Drow, but, go ahead and put him together, and I'll take a look. The campaign setting is my own, so go ahead and create a city for your use.

Re: D&D 3.5E: A Shadow Stirs
Yeah, most people seem to be un-fans of Drow, namely because of the excessive popularity they've gained from the Drizzt Do'Urden (I think I spelled that right) buzz. It's typically a race chosen by the most recent noob to join the realm of D&D-ness who thinks he's going to be a cool, evil little bastard who dual wields scimitars that glow blue and have weird names, or whatever.
Anyway, yeah, I'll throw together a character sheet - maybe even two, since I did say I could do either of two variations of the character - and I'll see if you approve of one or the other.
