Lucky Lucky!
Ignore that title. I guess the only thing that has to do with this is to name a character Lucky.
Anyways, I wanted to do a emotion-based magic role play! "Emotion based, you say? What does that mean, Sunni?!" Well, it means based on your (set) emotion, you have certain magic powers. For example, if you were a happy-go-lucky character then you would have Happy magic. If you were a bad-ass with a hothead you would have you would have Angry magic. It won't sound as lame as that, but that's the basic gist. And then emotions can mix to make different, more powerful emotions!
There's no specific plot or anything. Just an idea that's been floating around my head that I thought would be fun to discuss and play out!

It sounds interesting- if you think of a plot, I might be interested.

Re: Lucky Lucky!
Great! I have some possibles.
Well, that's the main reason why I posted it here. I have the idea of the magic thing, but not so much for the plot. Some really basic, BASIC ideas was:
1. Some post-apocalyptic thing
2. A rebellion thing
3. People who's trying to stop someone/some people from using forbidden magic (which is kinda the story of a FF role play I'm doing on another site).
I was hoping whoever was interested so far, could help with the plot process. I'm hoping this'll help a little. xD

Re: Lucky Lucky!
The first two sound more interesting, in my opinion. When I first read this, I began throwing an idea round, but I wasn't sure if it made sense. What if it's just the characters dealing with their abilities? But then i realized that only worked if only some of the characters that appeared in the RPG had the abilities....and then I realized that was kind of X-Men ish....not that I don't like X-Men, I love X-Men style RPG's...
Okay, back to the beginning of the rant, the first two ideas are interesting How do you feel about something somewhat X-men like?

Lawl. Yes, that totally sounded like X-Men. That's what I was thinking before I even read you acknowledge that. xD
Yeah, sure. An X-Men styled story sounds fitting. We can have them try to fit in to daily life, too. But some weird things happens and blah, blah, blah.

Re: Lucky Lucky!
This has struck my interest, but I'm afraid it has the potential to become really hokey.
Could you elaborate more on the magicks associated with each emotion. What do you mean by "happy" magick and "angry" magick? What does that really mean? Does it mean you make everything around you feel that emotion or what?

Re: Lucky Lucky!
I was wondering on that, too. I'm taking it to mean that Happy little Lanie would have, say, a botonist type magic, something that creates rather than destroys. Angry Damien, on the other hand, would have some sort of destructive fire related power. An, Nuetral Samantha, a girl with a love of learning, could have some sort of Pshycic (sp?, I hate that word) power.

Re: Lucky Lucky!
Actually... Anger makes me think of a more explosive destruction while something sad would cause more of a degrading/wilting sort of magick.
Psychic* btw.
How many emotions and what emotions were you thinking you wanted to use for this game, Sunni?

Re: Lucky Lucky!
You guys pretty much have it.
There would be basic emotions such as happy, angry, sad, etc. Depending on the characters personality, they get a basic emotion. So, Kathryn, let's use some Avatar characters as examples. Aang would have the emotion Happy or whatever we decide to call it, and all of his magic would be happy stylized. And then Zuko would be Angry (or whatever) and he's magic would be more destructive and devastating than Happy.
And then there could be mixed emotions which are waaaaaay more powerful. Like, hate would be a mixture of anger and something else. What type of magic. I can imagine Anger being more of an explosion. Happy would be more of a subtle attack/hypnotic magic, etc.
There's no really set number of how many I want or have. Again, it's a totally open discussion. Especially with the mixed emotion thing where there could be a lot of personality. If you got any suggestions, throw 'em at me!

Re: Lucky Lucky!
Okay! I know we all know our emotions, but I thought it would be a good idea to find a list ((especially since everyone is only mentioning happiness, sadness, and anger)). ^^_^^
It also has more advanced emotions, so I thought it would be good for your whole combined emotion thing.
List of Emotions
There are eight emotions and eight advanced emotions. It's really awesome.
So is there really going to be no plot? I don't mind not having a plot right away, but I can almost guarantee you this game will die if one doesn't pop up soon. Without a plot, there's no real point to the game.
If you compare it to a plotless movie, you'll understand. It's not fun to watch a movie that has no plot because it feels less adequate and pointless.

Re: Lucky Lucky!
I'm usually really good at making plots, but with this one I'm stumped. I know we should have a plot and I'd rather prefer. I can get as obsessive as putting down a very extensive guideline on how the story should go.
I went to the wiki(which I had to search for because that link took me to an error xD) before and I thought it was cool. But I also thought it wasn't very complete and that things like Acceptance wasn't an emotion to me. I could be wrong and we could still use this as a reference.

Re: Lucky Lucky!
I just clicked the link, and I didn't get an error. I wonder why you did?
Honestly, I hadn't thought of Acceptance as an emotion, either, but I think it makes sense with the way Robert Plutchik has it, and I really like the way they're listed as basics and combined to create more advanced emotions.
However, this is your role play, so it would be possible to use that list while taking out the ones you don't think work as emotions.

Re: Lucky Lucky!
Well, I really like how they did the table for grouping emotions. I think that could work. There are the basic emotions and then the secondary emotions can be more advanced, y'know?
Definite:
Joy, Sadness, Anger, Love, Fear (it's between iffy and definite, I see shock being more of a basic and fear being a combination of shock and something else)
Iffy ones:
Disgust, Surprise, Anticipation, Acceptance
It all has to fit with a character, though. That's why it can get pretty hard to do. I'll think of a a type of character to fit with each emotion and weed out the real basics. But that will have to be later. I'm a little busy at the moment. Again, you're welcome to shoot out any ideas you have. [continues packing]
