@Lara: I'm not sure I really see a person getting Bonded to a Dragon against their will, as the Dragon would simply pass them up; kinda like, "oh, you want nothing to do with me? okay." The person doesn't have to be seeking them out- the two could stumble upon each other and grow in friendship, and the Bonding would be somewhat automatic. People and their Bonded Dragons could get sick of each other (and even though they are Bonded for life (the person will always possess magic once it is given to them, even if their Dragon dies (but Dragons are generally accepted as immortal), and a Dragon generally only Bonds to one person, seeing as it's a very special relationship (think husband and wife) there will likely be times where they grate on each other's nerves).

@Silvan: The way I was seeing the types of Dragons was that ice belonged to the Water Dragons, while air was slightly shared between the Water and Fire Dragons (because both can somewhat manipulate temperature, and fire creates its own wind), and earth is somewhat in the realm of the Sun Dragons (which can heal any living thing, plant or animal).

Yeah, you're right about the Bond. I was just curious, since it sounded like an amusing concept.

Do you suppose there might be families of humans out there who have Bonded with dragons? Like, a line of humans who either have all bonded, or have a really strong chance of bonding with one? That could always spark something; like, a human from such a line going out to seek a dragon because it's a tradition in their family, though it might not work out.

Maybe a human war could fall too close to a Moon Dragon nest for comfort. While the Moon Dragon wouldn't want to be found by such warring people for fear of something happening to her or her egg, she could maybe try to flee the area with the egg and end up injured/killed [on accident]? And then one of the humans who killed the dragon could come across the egg and that could spark something more that I haven't thought of...

I do like the idea of "Bonded families" who traditionally Bond with Dragons- though, if Dragons are seeking out those with pure intentions, I could see it ending after a while; they would begin to see the vanity building up in the family as a result of them all being Bonded to a Dragon.

However! There could be something of an order of priests- certain people who, when Bonded, devote their entire lives to serving the needs of that particular species of Dragon. They'd also be quite elusive, because people may want them to divulge the secrets of the Dragons and their whereabouts, particularly the Moon Dragons.

Two potential plot ideas:
One Someone is slaying Sun Dragons for an unknown reason (I know the reason- maybe you can guess it too?), causing fear to not only the humans Bonded with them, but the humans Bonded with the Moon Dragons as well (because without the males, how will the females lay eggs?). Mystery ensues.

Two Dragons have lost faith in humanity have universally decided to stop Bonding with human beings. Those with magic have disappeared along with their Dragon Bonds, and after some time, magic-wielding humans begin to reappear, though they no longer use their magic (openly?). It is a mystery why they have come back, and what has happened to the Dragons (even a mystery to me, because I have no idea why they'd come back 8D).

I can definitely see how there could be overlap between the elements the way you described it. *sigh* If only my muse would help me brainstorm plot ideas instead of dragon ideas... Also, I think I like plot idea 1 better because the dragons are involved from the beginning, but that\'s just me.

Hey, no worries. Believe me, I know what it's like to get attached to a particular concept. Who knows...maybe I'll be able to put my own ideas to use in a future story or something. And having only four kinds of dragons really simplifies things, I must admit.

I don't know so much about that first idea, but the second one sounds interestingly possible. I'm sure that the reappearance of magic-wielding humans would cause normal ones (especially greedy, or simply inquisitive) to ask about where they've been/what they've been doing/why they left, etc.

Perhaps the Bonded humans left with the dragons and spent their time away trying to convince the dragons to give humanity a second chance? And, when they return, it's because the dragons have agreed to return if the Bonded (who totally need a better word to describe them that's shorter than 'magic-wielding') can still find normal humans who are pure of heart. In short, the dragons need to be convinced.

I'd assume, if we tried anything along those lines, that the current Bonded humans would be older, given the time they've been away and how old they probably were already when they were first bonded with their dragon.

-thinks what's been proposed so far is a mighty fine idea- There doesn't even need to be villains, haha! Unless, of course, people catch wind that Bonded humans are searching for those with a pure heart and decide to try and fake it. I'm sure that'd cause a problem if one of them actually was good enough to fool them long enough to go see the dragons.

Here's a question about the human-dragon Bond. Would Bonded humans have a longer lifespan than non-Bonded humans? If dragons are really close to their Bonded humans, then certainly they would feel grief if their partners die. Perhaps the magic involved in the Bond lets the humans live longer, like a few centuries or something? And what happens if the human dies? Does the dragon die as well, or do they seek out a different partner? If we go with the idea of dragons fleeing with their Bonded humans, by the time the humans return they would be senior citizens and probably not physically able to seek out pure-hearted humans. Having extended youth would solve that problem.

Also, I'm assuming the magic-wielding humans in this plot idea are the Bonded humans? If they aren't, then how do these magic-wielding humans obtain their power?

@Lara: No concrete ideas for the added direction. Though, the idea of people tricking Bonded humans (I was thinking of calling them Dragon Blessed 8D /corny) into leading them to the Dragons is intriguing, and can spur all sorts of drama.

I also have a vague idea involving the Moon Dragons again and their supposed ability to become human- but that would require me to create a villain (or have someone conspire with me so that they can play the villain >3).

But it's late now, and I think I'd prefer to sleep on it.

@Silvan: I'm thinking Bonded humans would have extended life-spans. And no, the Dragons wouldn't die with their human, and wouldn't go looking for another human to Bond to; if they do Bond to another human, it is a rare occurrence (because this bond is so strong and very special; it's not just "oh, you have a pure heart, here, have some magic"- it's more that the magic develops in the human as they develop a relationship with the Dragon, something that could take years).

Ooh, does your vague idea concerning Moon Dragons happen to have anything to with either a) a dragon pretending to be one of the Blessed (you're right, that definitely is corny :p ) or b) someone having a turned-human dragon as a trophy prize of some sort?

I read the whole plot points thing, and I like 'em all. I only have one suggestion.

Why would a dragon want to be bonded with a human? What does the dragon get out of the relationship? I haven't thought of an answer, but maybe you have something in mind.

And oh yeah. An added power of a water dragon bond, should be that the human can breathe water. I think that's only natural. *wink*

@Diodri: It's more a love and respect sort of thing. It's kinda like how we have pets. We do it for the companionship, and because we like animals. Dragons would do it for similar reasons, but mostly because they like humans, and (Dragons being pure creatures) because they can see the good that humanity is capable of, even in spite of the negative (hence why they only Bond with those of pure hearts and intentions).

I do like your idea about Water Dragon-Bonded humans being able to breathe under water; I think that Fired-Dragon Bonded humans would also be slightly immune to being injured or burned by fire as well. -considers this-

And I'm sorry to everyone who was waiting on me for a response. I just got so busy with life, and then had to try to catch up on everything on both FOG and Gaia- much harder than it sounds. But I think I'm all caught up now, and hopefully I won't fall behind again like I had. As a result of my unannounced hiatus, however, I have to go through all these ideas again and figure out what I was thinking, cuz I know I was beginning to develop some sort of plot. Hopefully I'll remember where I was going with my ideas and get a real plot up for you guys.

Okay, another potential plot idea has struck me (after sitting here for about twenty minutes and trying to think of something new and interesting):

Everyone with the ability to use magic (aka who is Bonded to a Dragon) is required to be registered- for safety and all that (this is actually relevant to the plot, but it's more fun for me if I don't spell it out). There is also a census that goes out every year, during which magic-using individuals must also distinguish themselves (again, plot-related, but it's better as a secret). Amidst all this, on occasion, young girls- sometimes even infant girls- who are borne to women suspected to have conceived after consulting a Sun Dragon come up missing. Mystery ensues and my plot slowly unfolds.

Kinda vague, I know, but I don't want to give away the ending. ^^;

If it's related to whatever super secret stuff you've got going on in that head of yours, Kitten, I'm perfectly okay with it. It sounds like it could end up really interesting. Practically gives me a character idea already, depending on what your plot ends up being.

^-^ I wish it was easier to come up with a plot within this universe. It's also slightly tempting to just go with no plot and make it free-form, and hope that a plot develops. This is something I could also do, but I prefer to have some vestige of plot before I start, just so I'm not aimlessly posting about my character's mundane day. ^^;
