Re: Sephiris: The Price of Peace - OOC
While talking about the moons earlier, it got me to thinking of the planets and such as well. How do they influence the night sky, tides, mythologies...if at all? Obviously navigation by stars is very common. Are there names for some of the more common constellations?
The devil is in the details. Yeah?

That's a good one, too. There are a ton of different topics to write about.
If somebody who really likes ships wanted, they could talk sea trade routes, and the different currents and ports, and stuff. Treatises on the different cities are good, too. All sorts of things. Digi, you might consider writing about overland trade routes, etc. I'm not doing all the work alone.

Yes, Digi, please feel free to make up stuff.
People really don't HAVE to clear everything with me. It helps, because I know more what's going on, but I generally make ways to provide for anything and everything (within the limits of what's been previously established).

I just PM him with the whole thing, to let him review it. Makes life easier for all of us.

I think I might do one for the Gedrich Knights, and perhaps the knight orders in general, but focusing on the Gerich Knights for example.

Then Kalon could put them all up on one of the front posts or something, and we could have our literature directory

Hehe. Digi, you'll need a pen name, though. ;o Still, the treatises are really good fun. I'll be doing something on fencing soon.

Yes, that's exactly what I was going to do, Silvone. Only I was going to post short summaries along with them. ^^ I'd better get on that.

Nice. The creatures would disappear, I'm thinking, like in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, except cooler somehow.
I'll post about it tomorrow when the mercenaries are hired by officials in Oliphey to investigate and take care of some of the mysterious monsters.
Also my dragon troupe will have a blast. xD

Re: Sephiris: The Price of Peace - OOC
I left that bit rather vague, I didn't know if you wanted a layer of black oozing into the ground/disintegrating and flying off into the sky, leaving an animal just lying there. Plus, I thought violent, confetti-filled explosions wouldn't quite fit.
. : Name : .
Full Name: Tuula Brendersen
Use Name: Tuula
Other: Tuu, but only his sister may use it.
Played by: Stion Gyas
. : Appearance : .
Height and Build: Slightly taller than average, Tuu is heavily built all over.
Description: Tall and heavily built, Tuu resembles an ox. He is by no means slow, but is not the quickest of men. His torso is well-muscled, with a V-chest and broad shoulders. His upper back is tattooed with the Rune for Air, a triangle split in two by a single horizontal slash. The triangle and slash are indigo in color, leaving the center skin color. A scar twists the line that cuts the triangle in two.
Tuu’s hatchet-like face frames pale grey eyes. His broad chin and jaw sit below a wide mouth and large nose. His eyes lashes and eyebrows are so pale as to seem invisible on his pale forehead. A heavy brow hides his eyes. Fine, strawberry blonde hair contrasts brightly with his white face. Despite a heavier facial structure, there is no doubt that he is Tuuli’s twin.
Clothing: Tuu wears clothing designed for sailing the relatively cool waters between Mandor and Sephalia. He wears heavy cotton pants and a linen shirt beneath a cotton vest. The vest is buckled closed. Light leather boots help provide traction, and keep his feet from the cold and wet. When a storm appears on the horizon, he pulls on an oiled canvas coat. An indigo scarf holds his hair back, and keeps his ears warm. His clothes are simply dyed in blues and greys. A leather belt encircles his waist, covered by a blue sash.
Weapons: Tuu prefers the axe over any other weapon. He carries a bearded axe with a haft comfortably long enough to use with two hands, or with one. A smaller, balanced axe he uses for throwing is thrust through his belt opposite the bearded axe. Across the small of his back he wears a sax, with a foot long blade, and a small hilt. The sax triples as a weapon, tool and eating utensil.
Other: Tuu wears a wide ring around the third finger on his right hand. He refuses to sell it.
Impression: Tuu strikes people as a lowly sailor with a penchant for axes.
. : Heritage : .
Age: 52
Birthplace: The town called Pon, built on the Gulf of Telmural. Pon is flanked to the north and south by its sister towns, North and South Pon. The three rival towns to the west are North Telm, South Telm, and Telm.
Family: Tuula’s closest relative is his twin sister, Tuuli. Their father, Arvo, was lost to sea fishing. Their mother, Olia lives a comfortable life, supported by the business they left their uncles, Jorgen, Roald, and Folke. Jorgen and Folke are the brothers of their father. Roald is Olia’s brother.
Inheritance: Their father’s Yellow jack-Jack fishing business, and an old silver ring Arvo used to wear.
Other: Ibn Dashur, a merchant based out of Telmural that helped to transport and sell their catch. Baron D’Armitage who bought their catch for excellent prices and who now contracts them to hunt pirates.
. : Persona : .
Biography: Tuula was born ten minutes before his sister Tuuli, but from when she was born onward, they were inseparable. Their childhood was lean, as their father tried his hand at fishing the Yellow Jack-Jack, but he gradually got more skilled at his job. At the age of fifteen, they joined their father on his boat, and began learning the trade. A decade after they began fishing, their father was pulled under by a Yellow Jack-Jack, never to be seen again.
After a period of grief, Tuula and his sister took over their father’s job. Their uncles supported them, and, using their father’s teachings, they began to make a name for themselves. Their father’s merchant contact continued to work with them, transporting their expensive hauls, and selling them to a rich baron, who paid well for the delicacy.
Fifteen years later, the twins were attending an annual fair that was held by the people of Pon and Telm. There, they met a man who was very much interested in the pair. He went on at length about magic, how humans could perform it in pairs, and how twins were more capable of performing it than others. It piqued their interest, and, after making their decision, traveled with him to Telmural to learn the art.
While studying magic, their uncles continued to support the family, and send them enough to cover room and board. During the grueling decade that they spent in Telmural, they hired various members of Ibn’s extensive merchant guards to give them training in different weapons during their spare time. Tuula focused on the axe, and Tuuli preferred the bow. By the time their training in magic had ended, the twins were fluent in Draconic, and skilled with a variety of weapons, but most specifically their weapon of choice.
Upon their graduation, an old contact got in touch with the pair. Baron D’Armitage sent a messenger offering them a new job with which to practice their new abilities. They accepted the offer, and were hired aboard a ship as crew members. Their primary job was to affect the weather for better sailing, but they also helped to capture the pirates they were sent for. On board the pirate hunting vessel they further honed their skills with weapons.
Motivation: The chance to make life safer for fishermen, and to advance their own business’s chances.
Skills and Talents: Tuula is skilled primarily with the axe, but also knows the basics of the bow, mace, sword and spear. He is fluent in both the human language and Draconic, and can read and write in both. He is a skilled fisherman and sailor. He can navigate via the sun and stars, as well as read and draw maps. With his sister he is capable of wind magic, specifically weather-affecting spells.
Strengths: Tuula is physically strong, and has a breadth of skills. He works best with his sister. He is a hard worker, and has strong business sense. With his sister, he is also quite skilled in wind magic.
Weaknesses: When Tuula is alone he is not quite as capable as with his sister. He also possesses a short temper, and often acts before he thinks.
Personality: Unlike his sister, Tuu is rash. He acts before thinking, and is quick to anger. When asked his opinion he will tell you exactly what he thinks. However, at the core he is very similar to his sister. Hard work is the only work, and working hard is how to do it. He plows through obstacles, never slowing for a moment. He constantly reaches towards the next level, and doesn’t celebrate when he reaches it, but moves for the next step. In all, he is a solid, dependable man.

. : Name : .
Full Name: Tuuli Brendersen
Use Name: Tuuli
Other: Only Tuula can call her Li and she is the only one that can call him Tuu or La-La if she wants to get his goat.
Played by: Digital Muse
. : Appearance : .
Height and Build: Tuuli is almost 6 feet tall and strongly built.
Description: Tuuli is incredibly fair. Her lashes and brows are so pale, they are difficult to see. Her hair is a very light strawberry blonde and so fine, it flies about her head in the lightest of breezes. Because her hair is so extremely long, she usually wears it in a long braid looped around her neck. Her eyes are a pale gray of a storm-laden sky. Tuuli’s face has a strong jawline, broad cheekbones and wide doe-like eyes. From the school where she and Tuula studied magic, Tuuli has a large indigo blue tattoo is situated across her lower back of the element of Air to indicate the Elemental school of Magic. The tattoo is a triangle with a line through the lower third of it.
Clothing: Due to life at sea, Tuuli wears blue canvas pants, a green linen shirt with embroidered sleeves and a faded black leather vest held closed by a brown leather belt from which hands a cutlass and long knife. In warmer weather aboard ship, she prefers bare feet for better traction and if on land or in colder weather, low-heeled soft boots. Other:
Impression: Tuuli is a contrast compared to her large-boned and strong appearance. She is soft-spoken and can be remarkably shy. She lets her brother do the talking, preferring to listen, form opinions and learn. Her voice is soft and sweet like her expression. Unless her brother is threatened, then she becomes a true Valkyrie.
. : Heritage : .
Age: 52
Birthplace: Sephalia, the east side of the Gulf of Telmural in the center 3 sister fishing towns; called Pon, between North and South Pon. Which was located directly across the inlet from the villages of North Telm, Telm and SouthTelm. The six villages at one time were at war between the Pon and the Telm clans in the long past, Those wars have become a yearly festival with feasting and competitions. They all compete for trade
Family: Twin sister of Tuula, they share the gift of Air magic. Their Mother, Olia still lives in Pon. Their Father, Arvo was lost at sea. When they started to learn magic, they left the fishing business in the hands of their uncles; Jorgen and Folke on their Fathers’s side and Roalde on their Mother’s side. So they could move to Telmural
Inheritance: the fishing business with boat and gear
Other: Connections to a noble family in Telmar named D’Armitage and a merchant go-between named ibn Dashur.
. : Persona : .
Biography: Tuuli is the younger by only 10 minutes of the twins. The inseparable twines had a happy life at home with loving, but hard-working parents. Their Father worked really hard and gradually did better and better. Before they learned of their gifts, they spent their formative years fishing for the rare Yellow Jack-Jack fish. The flesh of the jack-jack was a brilliant yellow and sweet. It is so rare and so prized that the nobility paid exorbitant sums to get it. Entire relays of horses with riders were established to rush the fish to their kitchens at the peak of freshness. Finding the rare lone fish sometimes took weeks of trolling for a single 300 pound fish. It often took an entire day to land the viciously fighting fish and more than one fisherman was lost in the struggle.
When the twins were 25, a monster of a fish hooked their Father’s line and before he could set himself, he was dragged overboard and away from the boat. His body was never found. But the twins continued the business and even made it grow and prosper through hard work and determination. After a period of grief, the twins took over their father’s job. Their uncles supported them, and, using their father’s teachings, they began to make a name for themselves. Their father’s merchant contact, ibn Dashur, continued to work with them, transporting their expensive hauls, and selling them to a rich baron named D’Armitage, who paid well for the delicacy.
Their success continued for 15 years when they met a funny little man at the Spring Festival who was terribly interested in the tall twins. In a spate of drunken ramblings, he explained how twins work together better than two unrelated people, or even two siblings when working magic. He spoke eloquently of all the wonders magic was capable of. They were hooked. Their livelihood was very dependent on the weather and dangerous. Studying magic could not only make them rich, but save lives. Tuuli and Tuula talked long into the wee hours that night. At the age of 40, they decided to leave their fishing business in the hands of their uncles and travel to Telmural to study magic.
They stayed with Ibn Dashur while studying with money sent from their Uncles paying their way..

They accepted the offer, and were hired aboard a ship as crew members. Their primary job was to affect the weather for better sailing, but they also helped to capture the pirates they were sent. for. On board the pirate hunting vessel they further honed their skills with weapons and extreme close quarters fighting.
Motivation: Everything they do is for the safety for fishermen. But, mostly, they do it for an advantage to their own business.
Skills and Talents: They speak and are literate in Draconic and Human. But can only speak greetings or simple shipboard related terms in Elvish. They are both skilled fishermen and sailors. The pair are capable of wind magic, specifically weather-affecting spells. In addition, to the two languages, the twins are skilled at navigation, astronomy, boat skills, fishing skills, and weapons.
Strengths: Tuuli’s greates strength is team work with Tuula. The twins are remarkably connected and stronger together in all aspects of their lives than they are apart. With her heritage and larger physical build, Tuuli is slightly stronger than normal due to a long life of hard physical work. She is a thinker and has a very strong business sense.
Weaknesses: A bit at a loss without Tuula. The twins have naturally fallen to relying on one another in all things and loosing Tuula would be like losing her right arm. She always follows his lead.
Personality: The twins, at their core, are the same; hard working, determined, solid and always moving forward. Tuuli, however, is more of a thinker where her brother is rash and blunt. When presented with an obstacle, she will find a way around it. She thinks her way through problems and finds ways to improve her situation. She ponders and then acts. Her brother may be the first through the door, but she will choose the right path once inside.

Re: Sephiris: The Price of Peace - OOC
Good characters. I'll put them up asap. ^^
NOW I MUST POST!! xD
Edit:
Okay, I'm half done and I better go to bed. This is going to be a verrrrry informative post, and hopefully it'll WAY make up for the lull I've been in over the past few days.
( I spent a lot of time today organizing all our posts into chronological order, so that's why the post didn't come today. Also I was roped into finally seeing Transformers 2 in the theater. )

It is lacking in the extreme.
I'll tell you more when I read it. ;o
EDIT: Great! The only mistake I caught was...
Gage is an actual word, but I don't think it'd the one you're looking for. In this case, by gaging their reactions, you're challenging their reactions. (A gage was basically a challenge, and originated with throwing gauntlets down.)
I think you want "gauge," which is to measure. I.e. A twelve gauge shotgun, pressure gauge, etc.

A distant, long, low howl pierced the air louder than the collective chants of S'harahe's servants. Almost immediately a second followed, and then a third, from different directions. Growls and screeches joined them. In moments the world was a perverse symphony of opposing sounds. S'harahe turned round to gage the others' reactions.

See that's what IIII thought. But my spellchecker had a red underline on gauge. I actually looked up and the Free Online Dictionary says "gage" is just an alternate spelling of "gauge," so I went with that. I'll edit, though, since I'm not crazy and the whole of society really DOES still know that it's supposed to be "gauge". ^^

Digital Muse, I'm not sure if Katerina's caravan would have reached the lakeshore by DAY 4. Wasn't it supposed to be DAY 7?

I thought we were going to put her in Oliphey on day 7?

Yes, but Oliphey IS on the shores of Barocula Lake. ^^
It would take her quite a while to reach the lake itself, and then some time to get to the city. Assuming she goes straight to the lake and not to Shadewood town first. If she went straight to the lake, I imagine she'd be there about DAY 6.

Well, Silvone, you caught a break. No need to write a post on your own. Shoot me a PM whenever you're available, or just pop into Mibbit. You too, Digi.

That's fine, I'm not yet fully capable of rational thought.

Re: Sephiris: The Price of Peace - OOC
So... Digital, are we going to go with DAY 6 instead of DAY 4 on your last post?
I should be able to post sometime tomorrow.

Re: Sephiris: The Price of Peace - OOC
I've got so many ideas for my two characters... But I don't know if I should spill my thoughts or just let them progress and see if it actually surprises anyone. I don't think I've ever been this excited or 'into' my characters before. This RP is epic!!
On a side note: Where in the world is Zephiris? No pun intended.... Is he not going to partake in what was originally his idea?
And: Happy Birthday, Stion Gyas!
