"Carry On My Wayward Son..." Supernaturalheader

Hey there! Do you like the show Supernatural? Do you often wonder what it would be like to be a hunter fighting monsters and saving people's lives? Have you ever watched the show and just really had the urge to shove an angel or a demon down a set of stairs? Then you've come to the right idea thread! Welcome!

So, I don't actually want to play with any canon characters from the series. Mostly, I want to play with original characters in the Supernatural universe where hunters and demons and monsters exist the way they do in the series. It would probably be best if you have at least watched the first season of the show to be familiar with the lore of the creatures and how the hunter community works. I have a few ideas/cravings but I'm certainly open to suggestions if you're familiar with the series. Looking for both men and women to play with and any of the story ideas below can be adjusted to fit male and female roles. I only role-play in threads.

MC = my character
YC = your character

I. The Soulbonded

"Carry On My Wayward Son..." Demon01_zps6cb46bce "Carry On My Wayward Son..." Demon02_zps793d2ce9 "Carry On My Wayward Son..." Hunter03_zps5dcf63ef

YC is a demon/monster princess/royalty and the monsters are planning something big and destructive for humanity. YC doesn't want whatever's going to happen to happen but none of the hunters who could help will listen. Until YC meets MC, a hunter of fairly notable skill. But trust doesn't come easy and to ward off any double cross, MC casts a spell that binds our souls together. This story follows our characters as we try to deal with these trust issues while searching for a way to stop whatever these monsters are planning. You can play your character however you want: actually altruistic and sympathetic to humanity, or manipulative and deceptive with your own motivations and stake in what's happening. Also, you can make your character whatever type of monster/creature you want. A demon, something that's been on the show before or an entirely new breed that the hunting community hasn't faced yet.

II. No Turning Back

"Carry On My Wayward Son..." Hunter02_zps8479fe8a

YC is a civilian, working and living in a regular city with a normal life and a normal job. You're on the right track and everything is going great, except, your boyfriend is acting strangely lately. Lots of tiny changes in behavior that make you think something is wrong. And frequent trips out in the middle of the night or disappearing on his lunch breaks, it all has YC thinking that he might be cheating. So you follow him one night to find out the truth and confront him, but what you burst in on is not a love affair but a monster, in your lover's body, feeding on the corpse of a dead woman. Just when it looks like you might become dessert, MC, a hunter that's been tracking this monster for a while, rushes in and kills the boyfriend. After that, torn by grief and unable to unsee what you have witnessed, YC decides to join me, wanting to become a hunter too.

III. Infected

"Carry On My Wayward Son..." Hunter05_zps7e69608d "Carry On My Wayward Son..." Infection02_zps26522395

It's the civilian life for YC again, starting out as a normal person, blissfully unaware of the supernatural world. Then something happens, you get attacked by a creature and almost made into it's meal before MC, a hunter, shows up to save you. Your injuries are severe but a short stint in the hospital and you're good as new. MC hasn't left town though and checks on you frequently, making sure you're okay. At first, it's reassuring, that he cares. But once you leave the hospital and he still visits, you start to grow worried and even unsettled. Then, one day, YC starts to change, your body going through a transformation and strange urges and feeding habits start to fill you. Then MC is there, sadness and resignation in his eyes, almost as if he expected this to happen. As he decides to land the lethal shot and put you out of your misery but something stops him and YC convinces him to let you live. He then decides the only way to keep YC from hurting others is to take you under his wing and teach you to become a hunter. The story follows our characters as YC grapples with what you've become, even as you learn how to use your newfound powers/strengths for good, helping people and saving lives. Completely up to you what transformations YC goes through.

IV. Rebellious Children

"Carry On My Wayward Son..." Demon03_zpsaa49bee5 "Carry On My Wayward Son..." Hunter04_zps4ae1a7bc

MC is a hotheaded and arrogant monster who's fed up with the rules he's forced to live by. All the older monsters try to tell him what to do, how to behave, what to eat. Sometimes, MC doesn't want to just dig in and slaughter some helpless human girl; sometimes, it'd be nice to talk first. But it's not allowed - "don't play with your food". Fuck that shit. What if she wasn't food, then, hm? Going for the ultimate rebellion, not only does MC outcast himself from his brethren but to top it all off and just spite his family, he decides to help the humans by becoming a monster hunter himself. Then, while hunting, he meets YC, another, different breed of monster, and instead of killing you, he convinces you to join him and become a hunter too - because "fuck parents trying to control our lives!" Witty, morbid shenanigans abound as our "monster hunters" try to learn about human hearts and strive to do good for people but as they are wont to do with the ignorant and foolish, accidents happen and mistakes are constantly made. Our hearts are in the right place though... that is until our monster natures begin to rear their ugly heads and the temptation of eating those we save begins to battle with our altruistic intentions. Then it's not our parents we have to fight anymore but the darkness that exists within our characters' selves.

List of Supernatural monsters:
(links to wiki entries for more info as some of these creatures have lore based specifically on the canon of the show, somewhat different in how they may be portrayed elsewhere. Please make note of these creatures powers and weaknesses, although they have terrifying appearances in monster form, a lot of them can shapeshift to look more human.

The choices of monsters we can encounter/play as are not limited to this list but it's there to give you ideas, based on stuff the show has already covered)

Arachne
Changeling
Crocotta
Djinn
Ghoul
Kitsune
Lamia
Rakshasa
Rugaru
Shapeshifter
Siren
Skinwalker
Vampire
Vetala
Werewolf
Wraith
------------

If none of that interests you, just come to me with a character or a story idea and we'll see where we end up, eh?

"Carry On My Wayward Son..." Empty Interested!

Post by ShadowWake Sat Apr 20, 2013 8:42 pm

Hi there! It's been a while since I've tried my hand at a RP, but I've really got the bug for it again. I'd be really interested in trying this, and I figure the best way to get back into it is 1x1. Smile

I'm pretty competent in writing and like the idea of III or IV, if you fancy it! I was thinking along the lines of a Djinn character, but wasn't sure how that would work out with option III as I haven't fully considered how an attack could create/transform my character into a Djinn yet. Wiki comes up with some cool ideas though. What do you think? Very Happy

Similar to humans, jinn have free will allowing them to do as they choose (such as follow any religion). They are usually invisible to humans, and humans do not appear clearly to them. Jinn have the power to travel large distances at extreme speeds and are thought to live in remote areas, mountains, seas, trees, and the air, in their own communities. Like humans, jinn will also be judged on the Day of Judgment and will be sent to Paradise or Hell according to their deeds.

A few traditions (hadith), divide jinn into three classes: those who have wings and fly in the air, those who resemble snakes and dogs, and those who travel about ceaselessly. Other reports describe them as creatures of different forms; some resembling vultures and snakes, others tall men in white garb. They may even appear as dragons, onagers, or a number of other animals. In addition to their animal forms, the jinn occasionally assume human form to mislead and destroy their human victims.

I think having a Djinn character for III would be kind of hard to maneuver in there because yeah, they don't typically infect humans to make more of their kind. However, I do think it'd have lots of advantages with one trying to become a hunter with those powers. If we were to do IV, my monster guy would probably be a Skinwalker or a Rakshasa, to play alongside your Djinn character. We could make III work somehow and I'm craving both at the moment, so it's really up to you what you want to do. I was hoping IV would lean towards the humorous side(not exactly a comedy or crack role-play but just with a bit more funny situations as our "innocent" monsters try to figure out how to be good), and III would be hopefully more serious and focused.

I like the idea of IV being a bit more humorous and considering we wouldn't have to do any wrangling with the facts (or as factual as myths can be anyway), I'm all up for it! And besides, humour kinda suits my mood at the moment.

Is there a specific character sheet that you would like me to fill in or do you prefer summaries? Also, I'm assuming like Supernatural, we're essentially set in the current world, but just as a point of note, as I'm a Brit who's never been to America, you might have to excuse the odd inaccuracy! Rolling Eyes Hope that's ok?

Well, I'm not really one for character sheets. I'd rather learn who our characters are by playing them. If it's relevant to the story it'll come up in the role-play. I figure the only thing that really needs to be discussed further is possibly how we meet up. I figure we'll start it right when my guy is hunting yours and then we'll sorta wing it from there? Sound good?

And yes, we'll be in the U.S. and that's fine! If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask.

Sounds good! Very Happy I'm going to take a moment to swot up on the beasties and prod my muse into action for my character! Where would you like to start, location-wise?

Well, based on the lore of the show, Djinn like to frequent forests, mountains and caves. But in the episodes they've appeared in have been in "cave-like" places like the one was in an abandoned building where it kept it's victims and fed off of them for a couple of days. So, we could go totally country with it and have a rural setting or in the city like the show. Just in trying to branch away from copying too much from the show, I'd say we could go for the more rural setting, possibly somewhere in the midwest.

Doing a bit of googling, I've come across Black Hills in South Dakota. I figure it looks the part and sounds as if it's rural without being too far from civilisation, i.e. prey (it seems as though there are a good few tourist spots, which is an obvious advantage to a monster Twisted Evil )! What do you think?

Also, I've not seen the episodes with the Djinn and the one thing I can't work out is how they feed. It says they feed on human blood, but do they bite and suck like vampires or is it more surgical e.g. like draining from wrist veins? I'm assuming it's quite neat either way, as they feed off one victim for a good long while! Stabby

And apologies for the emotes - I've only just noticed they're there! Boogie

Oh my, yes! It looks perfect for the location! We'll do that, then!

Uh, well, the only time we ever see one feed in the series, he has his victims bound and basically drains the blood from them with tubes and plastic bags like an IV. I do not think they have fangs but a cut or a bite or a needle and plastic IV bags all work for the same end. Since they don't specify it in the show, you're free to interpret it how you wish to in making you character and establishing their habits for hunting.

As for this post, I have ideas in my head but I work 30 hours this week, so my available time to work on it is limited. However, I have both Saturday and Sunday off and plan on getting the post finished and submitted then. Smile

Lol, they are neat little things, aren't they? So many for a variety of situations!

I'm good to go whenever you are and completely understand that Real Life can get in the way of fun sometimes! It gives me a nice while to settle into my character as well, as she's only bare bones at the moment (I'm calling her a she 'cause it's easier, but she'll change forms to whatever situ).

As an afterthought, do you have a preference for first or third person when writing? I can do either, so whatever suits you. Smile

So just send me a line when we're up. Looking forward to it! Very Happy
