Joined the 1st South African Division on 5 September 1939
Fought in North Africa, at El Alamein
Transferred after El Alamein to train more soldiers
Becomes a replacement for the 6th Armoured Division as they push up through Africa in 1945
Mustered out in early 1946
Finds adjusting to civilian life difficult, wanders Africa fighting in various wars, usually within the Pro-Western faction
Finds himself in Gwunfa looking for a new source of adventure

Name: Gilbert Thierry

Gilbert is bald and clean shaven, and goes to some lengths to ensure that he remains that way. At 178 centimetres and just under 13 stones in weight, he's of a moderate build, sufficient for him to play the part of the Man-at-Arms to Corin-Lynel, but not so much so that he might be able to turn a live man into a bloody and limbless corpse in a fistfight. Great-hammers are his preferred weapon, and he is capable of using swords and shields too with some ability too.

His plate armour is of some considerable bulk, but offers immense protection, allowing him to shrug of almost all but the most savage or skillfully done blows, which are then absorbed and largely mitigated. Due to the sensitive nature of his beliefs (especially his preferences for Lynel) he is quick to show himself in public as aligned primarily with Corin, and as such wears the red robe beneath his armour.

Few that meet him at first realise that he worships Lynel, and with good reason. Though he does so in private each night, he is quick to praise and put forth Corin as his chief deity. Whenever Lynel comes up, Gilbert is very careful, first to ensure he gives the praise the Lady deserves, but secondly to make it clear (at least superficially) that he is not a member of Lynel's cult.

That, actually, is quite true, as he does not belong to a particular cult in the sense that they live underground. His priory actually holds Lynel in great reverence due t their martial background, and Gilbert attempts to cleanse his soul by praying that those he slays are looked favourably upon by by her. When not under a particular guise (either that of Corin or that of Lynel) he is quick to take up his unmarked habit. He also carries a red one for his duties for Corin, and a second one in black marked with purple for his devotions to Lynel.
