School for the super-enabled

Plot: Camp Riveria has stood for many years in peace, its student's learning the importance of keeping their abilities a secret. Once graduated they tend to use them subtly for the good of those around them. Since the school started the rest of the world has lived in near blissful ignorance of the existence of people with abilities, with each country having its own school to tutor and look after their own kind.

Several years ago however rumours boiled up on the internet of the existence of what the media dubbed “mutated freaks” ie people with powers. How these rumours started no-one knows but what the super-enabled do know is there is a power moving against them, an unknown, unrelenting force. Are they human? Are they ability users? This is speculated often but all that is known is that whatever they are, it isn't good.

Setting: Camp Riveria is a place where children/teenagers are either sent, or inevitably escape to. A large school under the banner of a summer camp, Riveria is a place people with unexplainable abilities can go to learn about their powers and train them in safety. Being surrounded by forests the camp is secluded from the rest of the world allowing for a great deal of privacy as well as space to train. The school from the outside looks like a typical American Summer Camp with varrious small building dotted about the clearing in the woods. This however is an illusion created by the founder of the school many many years ago and despite his death the illusion remains intact. The school is a large stately house with several out buildings used for teaching or other activities.

Flyer for Riveria: This flyer is the schools way of locating and recruiting students to the school. these flyers can be delivered by former Riveria students that find out about a child with unique abilities, sent via the post to the address of the soon-to-be student, or the address is bombarded in a very Harry Potter-esq way, a student in need will always find a home at Camp Riveria.

RP RULES:

Don't be ridiculous with your powers. Obviously the characters are children/teenagers with under-developed abilities.
Be aware of the fact that your character may die if the GM/Co-GM deems fit.
This is a school so be aware that at some point your character may be detained.
Only sensible romance is allowed please.
The GM's reserve the right to do what they want to the story, when they want to.
They also reserve the right to add rules as they seem fit later on in the RP to limit characters who have become too over powered.

School Rules: (I'll add these as I work on it.)

Teacher Character Sheet

Name: James Lyre (In school his nickname was Spectre)

Gender: Male

Age: 27

Bio: When he was younger James attended a different school for ability users in England. His powers manifested when he was about 8, or that is what the teachers thought when they first met him, but due to the nature of his abilities no-one really noticed a change in him until he first came into contact with another super powered individual. He still remembers the event as if it were yesterday.

His mother had collected him from school one afternoon and they were walking home. James' parents lived in a nice neighbourhood in a secluded part of England but unfortunately you had to walk through one of the less desirable areas to get there from his school. As they were walking down the street he could remember a man approaching his mother, he started talking at her and despite her efforts to move around the man and walk away she couldn't. The man looked at her and pulled his hand out from under his coat. Most normal muggers would pull out a knife or at best a gun but James remembers this mans hand being empty. That is when James first saw a super power. The mans hand burst into flames and he threatened to burn James unless his mother gave him her valuables. His mother distraught at the threat on her child agreed and began going through her purse, James was scared of this man, but what then happened made his fear a whole lot worse. The flame on the mans hand died, leaving him looking confused and a little scared himself. He started shouting at James' mother calling her names and telling her to stop using her powers. She pleaded with him that she didn't know what he was talking about, so he turned his attention on James, grabbing him by the collar and lifting him off of his feet. James' first reaction was to grab the mans wrist. He can recall feeling his fingers tingle at the time and then the man screaming as fire engulfed his arms. He dropped James and ran off down the street trying to put himself out. The last thing James can remember from that day were people staring at him and then everything going black. He woke up the next day in his bed and from then on his super-enabled life was to begin.

Throughout school James was a little bit of a trouble maker, nothing major just the odd prank now and again on both students and staff alike. Despite his mischievous nature he always performed well in class and out shone many of the mature acting students. Once he had finished at the school he parted ways briefly with academic life and went travelling around the world. (Not to hard when you've hijacked some other persons ability to fly.) On travelling to America James became a teacher at the school, using his powers to help people just like his teachers had helped him.

How you came to work at the Riveria: Ex-student of another school who feels their abilities are useful in aiding others to discover their true power.

Are you super powered?: Yes

Superpowers: James' power has two branches to it, the first is the ability to mimic another persons powers on physical contact. However the replica power is never as strong as the original and he can only store up to 3 other powers in his body at one time. Any more than 3 and his molecular structure begins to break down, resulting in a very rapid and painful end to his life. The second branch of his power allows him to dampen another abilities, useful in a teaching environment. While he can not completely stop someone’s abilities, depending on how skilled they are he can dampen them down so much that it appears to have negated that ability. Using both powers at the same time for an extended period has a physical affect on James as well, altering his appearance into something akin to a shadow. While this can be alarming it is purely a change of temperance nothing more. This change is what earned him his nickname.

Teaching specialisation: James uses his powers to demonstrate to the students how to use their powers effectively. Having experienced a wide varriety of powers himself he is fairly competent at unlocking a new powers potential. He teaches students how to use their powers to defend themselves and counter attack but stresses that their powers should never really be used for offense in a fight.

Attitude: Having once been a student at a similar school James has a more relaxed attitude to how his lessons are run. He doesn't, however, tolerate the use of powers for bullying or other such misdemeanour’s, practical jokes he is fine with, as long as no-one is hurt and any damage is reversible.

Appearance: James typically wears gloves (as shown) to prevent him from accidently picking up anothers powers.

Realistic

Spoiler:

James running both powers for an extended period:

Spoiler:

Other: Prefers his students to call him by his first name despite school rules.

Student Character Sheet

Name:
Ruie Hartford

Age:
15

Gender:
Female

Bio:
Ruie grew up in a gloomy small town in Washington. She had a perfectly normal childhood, growing up with a mother and a father and adopted younger sister. She went to school, played with friends, and had nothing more traumatic than a bad bicycle wreck where she broke her leg. She was best friends with her younger sister, even though they didn’t look alike, as her sister was adopted from China. Sometime after she turned thirteen though, things started changing. One morning she wasn’t feeling well, and her mother had come up to her bedroom to bring her some soup, and found that her daughter had been replaced. Laying in bed was a Chinese girl that only just resembled Ruie. Ruie hadn’t even known it had happened until her mother brought out a mirror. Her mother didn’t calm down until her father came in and said Ruie looked fine – even though Ruie and her mother saw someone different. As she couldn’t control her newfound power, her parents withdrew her from school and from everyone else – friends, extended family. They even tried to hide it from Ella, her sister, though she was bound to know something was wrong.

Attitude: Ruie is quiet, and has always just tried to fit in. She didn’t used to have a problem with that. Oddly enough, it wasn’t until she adapted her strange chameleon powers that she felt truly unable to blend with the community. She’s friendly, and a listener. She doesn’t get angry that easily, and keeps her turmoil to herself.

Appearance:
She’s about 5’2’’, pale skin with dirty blonde hair and dull blue eyes.
School for the Super-Enabled Girl-with-braided-hair

How you found out about Camp Riveria:
A former student was in the area and heard of a once friendly girl who had become reclusive over the past couple of years. He visited the house and quickly learned that Ruie was in fact enabled. The parents wouldn’t let her go without seeing the school for themselves. Once satisfied that it wasn’t a gimmick, they bid their daughter a tearful farewell and hoped for the best.

Powers:
Ruie is a chameleon. She can change the way she is perceived to look, though Ruie feels no physical transformation and wonders if it is an illusion. Sometimes her father would see it and her mother not, sometimes reversed. She can’t change her height or bone structure, so her limits are to her frame. She also can’t change the length or texture of her hair, just the color. The shape of her face changes sometimes, other times not.

Other:
Ruie doesn't want to have her powers, but at this point just wishes she could control it. It's frustrating waking up to find that certain people see her as some one else.

A few weeks ago Ysopet and I had an Xmen marathon and were discussing what our powers would be (based on our personalities). Ruie's is what we thought mine would be. However, a big difference between Raven/Ruie is that Ruie is illusion based - right now it gives her severe limitations, but I think as she learns to control this power, she may be able to do illusions beyond her own physical appearance. What do you think?

That sounds pretty cool, so it's kind of like Xaviers ability but limited to tricking people's minds.

Yes, exactly. And at this point is so limited she can only make people percieve her to look like a different version of herself, and even that isn't yet controlled. She's got a lot of work to do!
