Volume 1- Sentient Races
Viala
Fish people. They have been said have evolved from common silverfish of the Blue River delta region, where the Viala mainly reside. This area is rich in essence, bringing some validity to this point. Other species have been known to emerge from areas near natural essence wells. They can breath in aqueous environments only, otherwise, they must speak to the queen of the Blue River. Only their queen can provide a breathing apparatus of some sort. Ironically, they are excellent fishers and trade with the other races.
Vampires
Regular vampires except they sap Essence. Through their blood sucking, they absorb essence(which they need to survive) and specific essence based abilities. This means they are somewhat copy-cats if given the chance. The only way they can convert others is to put them through a lengthy ritual killing.
Werewolves
Regular werewolves. Extremely powerful, fast, and able to use advanced senses of smell, sight, and hearing. Lycanthropy can be passed on with a single bite. Once infected, a person will experience crippling pain for many days. They will exhibit symptoms of a deadly fever, before they're put into a comatose state for forty eight hours. At the expiration of this period, the subject will experience rapid hair growth over the entirety of their body, and change to their bone structure. They will become werewolves. Werewolves retain their past memories and intelligence, but they do have a temper. One will usually see them employed as bodyguards or bounty hunters. There are legends that speak of feral werewolves wandering the mountain ranges of the north. However, such legends have very little proof.
Drakonians
Half Dragon half human. This race was born out of a sorcerer's boredom. One day, he accidently fused a human baby with a dragon. At least, thats how the story goes. They live in seclusion from the rest of the races, however, there are exceptions.
Melesians
Mole people. They have no eyes whatsoever, but resemble humans in most ways except height. They are extremely short. They have sharp claws meant for digging and live in giant tunnel networks with large cities. They may be considered "unclean" by the rest of the races. Their noses are pretty much vestigial. They don't take showers, or care to clean anything. They are usually miners, or jobs that involve "getting dirty."
Humans
Normal humans. Home sapiens. They have been known to take hundreds of different professions and live wherever the land will permit them. Perhaps the most numerous race, known for their land grabs in the ancient times, they have since taken the Grand Continent for practically their own.
Witch
Witches are not simply humans who can harness natural essence and bend it to their own will using potions and spells. They are their own race. Witches are bound by their goddess to not harm another being unless it is unavoidable. They are bound to help all who are in need. Witches have declined in most of the 'civilized' areas but still thrive among races closer to nature. Because of breeding with other races, witches come in a variety of sub-races (modeling the other races of the world) though their 'original' form was human looking. The only exception is that there are no vampire witches. Since being a vampire directly contradicts a witch's oath, they generally starve themselves to death. Each witch tends to have an attraction to a certain branch of magic and specializes in it. A witch who has been exiled from his or her coven is given scars on their cheeks in the shape of an X to warn others.
Nazerians
Known as guardians of the forest, the Nazerians were known to live exclusively in the forest nation of Tallon. They had a special gift for "cycling" the essence of dead organic matter. Such "cycling" is what fueled the Tree of Life and other such essence anomalies in the region. However, after the destruction of Tallon by the Enolan army, the race is believed to be extinct. No traces have been found of the few Nazerians that were known to exist. They were bony, fragile creatures with human-like features. Often they were confused for elderly humans.
Tevren
A human-like race that resides due west of the Valley of Twilight past the Aoan Mountain Range in the Tevren Vales. They are believed to be descended from the human race, however, their seclusion and the conditions of the area have changed them. Their life span can stretch over a 150 year period. They also have a unique resistance to essence in all forms. Tevren can partake of manufactured essence without fear of addiction, and of natural essence without fear of mutation, or other side effects. Besides this, they tend to be taller than most humans with an average height of 6'9" with the tallest of the species being noted as almost 8'.
Animists
A slave race. Since the days of Old Praetoria, the animists have been subservient to the other sentient races. They are born and bred for one purpose- to serve as slaves and work horses. Often, animists take the form of humanoid cattle and bulls. However, in certain cases, the animists are bred for different purposes like digging, or fitting into small spaces. These specialized breeds are few, but can communicate with their masters in the common tongue and amongst themselves in a brutish language. Animists are renowned for their ability to survive harsh conditions and contend with the likes of Werewolves and other savage beasts.

Volume 2- Nation-States
Old Praetoria
Argon
Akuersos Empire
Enola
Enola is under the reign of the Grand Regent Skoll Arkenhand. Skoll assumed the title of Grand Regent after the assassination of the whole of the royal family by Trentian assassins contracted by Gornada. The sole survivor of this assassination was the infant child of King Matias Drakengaurd IV: Alexander Drakenguard II. In his regency, Skoll has initiated the Gorno-Enolian War and tried to expand the Enolian borders through conquest. His position as head of the military has transformed Enola into a militaristic state. Their allies are Reardon and Fester.
Reardon
Reardon is known as the army with a nation, rather than a nation with an army. They boast the strongest of the Grand Continent's armies. Disciplined, cold-blooded, and young, they do not dissapoint. They reside in the forests east of Gornada. Recently, their elderly, but great emperor passed leaving his weak and timid son on the throne. This entered Reardon into two wars- the Grand Continental War, and the Reardonian Civil War. Back home, the civil war divides Royalists, those loyal to the crown, and Red Swords, those who seek place General Al Chem Sharash on the throne to secure Reardon's place as the premier land force on the Grand Continent.
The Confederation of Desert States
A loose confederation of differing desert countries. The dominant force behind this confederation is the Badlands, a country named after the extremely harsh desert to the far east. Some call them primitive, but what they lack in technology, they make up for in resilience. The Confederation of Desert States has long been in isolation. They joined the war on promises of technology acquisition from Enola. However, Enola abandoned this weak ally after The Push. The Confederation of Desert States is now in shambles.
Gornada
Gornada is ruled by one Emperor Talberd Ian Fasatune (pronounced fast-oo-nay). The uncle of Skoll, Emperor Talberd feels it is his duty to rule over Enola. When Skoll refused to give up power and attacked Gornada, Talberd had no choice but to retaliate. Though he wishes the war would end, Talberd sees no compromise, either he will be emperor of Enola, or no one else. Gornada has lost its allies to The Push.
Tallon
Not necessarily a country more than a huge tribe. The Tallon people, are akin to Native Americans or Indians in our world. They are connected immensely with nature and worship a plethora of Gods. They once wished to drive out all foreign influence in their nation, namely the Enolian people. Gornada promised to wipe clean all Enolian refugee camps and deport all Enolian immigrants in Tallon. Yet, this proved to be a futile dream after the destruction of the Tree of Life and most of the forest nation in The Push.
Fester
A nation of Dragons they call it. Drakonians heavily populate this nation. Its half dragon-half human inhabitants live under this seeming volcanic wasteland. They enjoy the intense temperatures and have built beautiful underground cities. However, the temperatures are so great in Fester, that few men have ever dared to venture into its cities for fear of heat stroke and other heat related ailments. They allied with Gornada in hopes of annexing part of Enola for their expanding population. They abandoned this cause after Gornada was backed into a corner.
Nock
Situated in the Valley of Twilight, Nock is a diverse, yet small nation. They feature many of the world's races, so natives of Nock are not associated with any one race. They are also the only democratic nation, electing a "King" and having a Parliament. They lie out of the path of destruction to the west. They have withdrawn from the war.
