I am thoroughly intimidated.
Hello, whoever cares to take the time out of their otherwise busy day to read this.
I'm guessing most of the newer members on this forum have been invited from Role Play Gateway, as I have. Actually, I'm quite humbled by the invitation, especially since the caliber of most of the posts I've seen so far has managed to set my writing standards higher than before. Well, enough of the fluff. If you haven't already recognized the similarity between my username here and on the Gateway, I am indeed the same player as River-Koi.
Contrary to most of my characters, I am not the brightest or most eloquent of writers. In fact, the only reason why I started role playing was to hone my writing skills for what I hope will turn into a novel someday, but I still find myself checking the online thesaurus since the style I'm using requires a broad vocabulary (being set in fantasy-medieval times). I love discovering new words to use. In fact, I've come to create a female narrator in my head that sounds similar to the one in The Lord of the Rings to make sure my sentences remain fluid and... well, proper-sounding, for lack of a better word.
Now enough of that. In short, if anyone really cares, I love dark and serious stories, and have yet to really find a decent one in many role playing forums. That's what I'm here for.
Cheers,
Danielle, the Koi in the River.

Re: I am thoroughly intimidated.
Welcome to FoG, Koi! I hope you enjoy yourself here.
Try not to be so intimidated. I'm sure you'll fit in splendidly. I, myself, always loved a challenge, and this board could be just the thing for that. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Le Gasp! Dark and serious roleplay. I may have just the thing. But I hope others have some as well. I'm very interested to see where we can go with those stories. Oh right, where are my manners,
HI! I'm squall the "super hero" as called by some. Hope you have a good time here and remember to use everyones favorite super power. Common Sense.

Welcome to FOG, Koi. No need to be intimidated. Your role-play posts were impresive enough, but coupled with your introduction, I'd say you'll fit in very nicely here. (And gosh -- are you really 14!? I always am so envious of these fantastic writers at such young ages, as I wish I could have been that great that young.)
I think that's a wonderful goal to work up toward. I, too, can relate with you there. It would be a dream of mine to be able to be able to publish something someday. :] Writing in medieval times can be difficult, like you said, because of the way that they talked, which can differ quite a bit. I think expanding your vocabulary though is fantastic.
A dark and serious story sounds really intriguing. I hope you find what you're looking for here and enjoy yourself!

Hey there, don't be intimidated.
Come on in and RP. Seriously, everyone always thinks boards like this are full of nasty people who bite and pass judgement. I'm just happy when someone signs up for one of my RP's, honestly.
I think you'll be surprised at what you can do if you just relax and focus on the writing rather than worrying about what others think.
At any rate, howdy!

Wow, I'm relieved to see so many friendly people replying. What a load off my back! And thank you to everyone for the positive feedback. I try (and will continue to try) my best.
(And yes, I am 14. Actually, I was hoping to hide that because I didn't want anyone to hold back on the gory stuff with me, but oh well. )

Re: I am thoroughly intimidated.
I'm not sure what the rules are precisely, but I tend to assume that anyone under 18 has seen much worse on TV (I sat down and saw what passes for family-friendly crime drama recently and nearly yakked dinner) and am not too worried about it, speaking for the one thread I actually run, as of right now.
I'm not too worried about "korruptin them-there yute uf Amurka!" as our politicians and media, who hypocritically cry over the milk they spilled, seem to have that job locked down tight!
Addendum: Worse comes to worst, I can always be forcefed hemlock.

Ahem, anyway... Thanks for the understanding, Heyseuss. 'cause I mean, sometimes I write things so graphically that I'm like, "Gee willikers, did that come out of ME?"
...Huh. "willikers" is not in my dictionary...

Haha, thanks people. I look forward to creating (not playing, CREATING) with you. It's amazing how comfortable everything becomes after I've made my first post.
