Welcome to Hell.

In the year 964 within the realm of Sanctuary, the Dark Exile occurs. There is a rebellion led by Azmodan and Belial, where many of the Hells' lesser demons rise up against the Prime Evils. Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal are exiled to Sanctuary from the Burning Hells. Demons are breaking through rifts underground, taking over the northwestern part of Sanctuary and transforming it into the Dreadlands, whose boundary is pushing ever eastward.

Our story begins in the year 968 outside of the city, Uralis, located in Sku’rea. Sku’rea has been under siege for four years by two of the three Demonic Lords, Diablo and Baal. As an adventurer, your first quest is to aid Uralis it in its defense against the Demons that seek to conquer the city.

Game Play & Rules

This role play is run as a series of quests, which branch off from a town. The first town and three quests have been created for you. The rest we are going to have to collaborate together to create. Quests should fit into the world of Sanctuary; please view the sample bestiary provided above for ideas. Typically, one town has six quests. We can variate on this number. Quests typically are more simple in the beginning and get more difficult as we continue. Therefore, your character should start out weak and grow more powerful as we move on.

Movement is by foot, horse, caravan or boat. When you are outside of town, you can collect scrolls which open portals that give you a two way ticket; into town, and then back to your location. There will also be more permanent portals called waypoints; these are going to be somewhat rare and decided upon by the GM (Mojave Wanderer). You must reach these in person to activate.

Killing monsters and completing quests results in loot and rewards. We give rights to the creation of this loot to the individual members; however, powerful/magical items must be OK’d by the GM. Items should be appropriate to the difficulty of kill. The more difficult the monster, the greater the prize.

In this game, our characters are going to be hurt. We will have health potions that should be drunk often (and in the interest of keeping things interesting, you should run out). If your character goes unconscious, team members will have access to revitalization scrolls, to bring you back. (Better hope your friends like you).

Player vs Player fighting is allowed, but please, don’t kill your comrade. It ain’t cool.

Magic use (both artifact and conjur) is welcome. For conjuring, the more powerful the spell, the more mana (energy) you use. Mana potions are available, and should be treated like health potions. Please look at your character class to see what magic skills you might posess.

General Rules:

  • All FOG rules apply.
  • If you are going to be absent, please let the GM know.
  • Make character power appropriate to quest level. Start off simple.

Physical Description: Tall with a medium sized build (semi-muscular) and looks very animalistic because of his gear. He wears a pelt as armor which covers his back, shoulders, but splits around his neck and is kept together by a chain; underneath his armor he has a torn cloth shirt. Around his waist he has a leather sash that carries 4 health potions and 4 mana potions. He wears leather grieves that meet a pelt covered boot that goes halfway up his shin. On his left shoulder, he has thick pelt with 2 tusks pointing outward while his right shoulder has a bronze plate and on his hands are plated leather gloves. His face is covered by an animal totem which resembles the head of a wolf.

Personality: Adohorn isn’t a social person. He is closely bonded to nature as is every druid, so violating or insulting nature may offend him. Although he is anti-social, he is willing to work with other adventurers (and forgive their ignorance) to stop the minions of Chaos.

Biography: Adohorn was born in the forest of Scosglen which to most people of Sanctuary is known as Altaria in this time period. He trained to be a druid at the Druid College of Túr Dúlra ("Tower of Nature"). Like all druids, he follows the Caoi Dúlra ("Way of Nature"), a harmony of nature in which the druids had sworn to protect. The Caoi Dúlra also teaches druids many secrets of how to call upon nature as well as many other skills that only the druids know. Adohorn served as a warrior-king of a small tribe where he lived apart from people in a stone tower covered in vines and ivy. During these few years he had very little conflicts, and when news of the Uileloscadh Mór ("Great Holocaust") reached him, he decided venture to the Steppes of Mt. Arreat. During his journey to the Steppes of Mt. Arreat, he was confronted by a group of monsters outside of Uralis, and he realizes that the demons already have taken over much of the land.

”A rebellious woman who has wrested the secrets of magic use from the male dominated mage clans of the East, the Sorceress is an expert in mystical creation ex nihilo. Though somewhat lacking in the skills of hand-to-hand combat, she compensates for this weakness with fierce combative magic for both offense and defense. Solitary and reclusive, the Sorceress acts based on motives and ethics inscrutable to most, and sometimes seems capricious and even spiteful. In reality, she understands the struggle between Order and Chaos all too clearly, as well as her role as a warrior in this battle.”

“The Zann Esu, or Sorceresses as they are generally known, are on a quest for purity, the pursuit of the perfect magic. They feel the other disciplines of magic are haphazard, and have instead chosen to focus strictly upon elemental magic. In order to achieve perfection in these elemental transmutations, they choose only those daughters of Sanctuary with the highest level of attunement to the magical elements. The Sorceresses believe that it is through the search for perfection that they will attain ultimate purity and ascend to their destined role as the most powerful mages in Sanctuary. For centuries they have studied in secret, perfecting their art and bidding their time until the Emergence of Evil. Then, they will face their greatest challenge, either proving the purity of their magic or fading from existence.”


Character Biography:

Gadrael was born as Gadrael Belatucadnos in the forests of Altaria, to her people known as Scosglen. She had an older brother with a greater affinity for druidism than most of their people. While all who lived among the Scosglen forests generally follow the Caoi Dúlra; not all are blessed with the magical affinity of calling upon the earth to do their bidding. Gadrael’s parents soon realized that their daughter, too, had a magical affinity. Though she had little skill with the earthly matter that the druids coveted, she had a way with the most basic elements of nature: water, fire, and lightning. She was labeled as a witch of the weather, and while she was not cast out of the community, she was looked at with wariness.

When Gadrael was seven years old, strangers entered the forests of Scosglen. Two women who called themselves Zann Esu pleaded with those who protected the border to let them in. Once they realized it was Gadrael that the women wanted to see, the border patrol reluctantly let the women through. Perhaps these women could help Gadrael and her affinity to the more destructive ways of earth. It was quickly obvious to Gadrael and her family that they wanted Gadrael as one of their own; they were very polite, and put little pressure on the family, but they often spoke of a great reward. Not only would Gadrael be trained as a Zann Esu, the family would be compensated for many years for the loss of their daughter.

After much deliberation, and seeking council with their fellow people, it was decided that Gadrael should be allowed to leave with the Zann Esu if she wished. They knew that her magic could not be honed by any knowledge or skill that they possessed, and hoped her training would be for her own benefit, as well as for the benefit of the entire family. Gadrael was terrified of the strangers, but she was also intrigued. In the end, she decided to go with them. The family refused to treat it as a transaction and would not take payment; however, for many years, items of value were left at the edge of the Scosglen forest.

She studied for many years within the Kehjistan Jungles. Some sorceress’ grow an affinity for one element, and Gadrael’s was that of water, especially ice. Upon completion of her training, she was renamed Gadrael Izo-Rani.

Previously, the only Zann Esu seen outside of Kehjistan were recruiters. However, times were growing darker, and the elders of Zann Esu were warned that the Prime Evils were drawing near. A few sorceresses had been sent across Sanctuary to investigate, and Gadrael was one of them.

Physical Description: Imstad is old and frail, though he can still wield his enormous scythe with ease. He wears armor made of the bones of his greatest enemies and trophy kills, though it is reinforced with leather. Imstad’s hair looks like little more than would be seen on a freshly buried corpse, and his face looks just as aged. His skin is dark and leathery, and he carries no visible scars. He carries several different wands on his armor, within easy reach when needed. He also carries several small vials on his belt, all filled with mana-regenerating potions.

Diablo: The Fall of Sanctuary OOC Necromancer

Personality: “From the steamy recesses of the southern swamps comes a figure cloaked in mystery. The Necromancer, as his name implies, is an unseemly form of sorcerer whose spells deal with the raising of the dead and the summoning and control of various creatures for his purposes. Though his goals are often aligned with those of the forces of Light, some do not think that these ends can justify his foul means. Long hours of study in dank mausolea have made his skin pale and corpselike, his figure, skeletal. Most people shun him for his peculiar looks and ways, but none doubt the power of the Necromancer, for it is the stuff of nightmares.

Imstad is secretive and reclusive, beyond the normal standards of a necromancer. Any sane person would avoid him on sight anyway. When forced into interaction, Imstad prefers to do it somewhere dark and hidden. He has no trust in others, and he recognizes that no one would possible trust him; even, he has come to learn, his fellow Necromancers.

Character Bio: Imstad has no recollection of his past beyond the past three years. As a Necromancer, Imstad knows that he at least began as a Priest of Rathma, one of the few surviving Nephalem in Sanctuary and the master of death and spirits. Where his path deviated, he is unsure. The Priests of Rathma uphold the Great Cycle of Being, and embrace death with as much vigor as they have embraced life. None seek to divert their death and extend their lives unnaturally. Somehow Imstad has done so, though he has no recollection of how or why. He has been marked by his eyes, now solidly white, and the look of his skin; he looks as much dead as he is alive. He has been shunned by the Priests of Rathma, his fellow Necromancers, and has found himself hunted by skilled assassins. Though, so far, they have not been skilled enough.

Imstad has taken to traveling, searching out the hidden arts of the necromancers and perhaps restoring his memories. Though he knows he will never be accepted by the Priests of Rathma again, he hopes to at least make his supposed immortality worth the cost he paid for it.

Personality: “They call themselves the demon hunters, a group of fanatical warriors sworn to a single purpose: the destruction of the creatures of the Burning Hells. The demon hunters number in the hundreds and make their home in the Dreadlands so that they can live and train without the interference of any nation that would worry over having such a fearsome group camped within its borders. There is something in all demon hunters that gives them the strength to resist the demonic corruption that would drive lesser men to madness. They hone this power, for their resistance to this taint enables them to use the demons' power as a weapon. But their mission and their power are not all that bind them together.”
Unlike most Demon Hunters, Radamir does not journey to ruined or infested towns, instead he chooses to defend towns that still might have a chance to avoid the fate of the rest of the towns that have been claimed by the Dreadlands. He shares the same hatred for Demons as all Demon Hunters have but is able to control it slightly better than most. Because of this, he was forced to separate from the rest of his kind, making him a wanderer with no home.

Character Bio: Like most Demon Hunters, Radamir was recruited at a very young age after surviving one of the many invasions from the Burning Hells. Having lost his entire village to a demonic army and having nowhere left to go he put his faith in a mysterious stranger that had found him alone in his home, hiding. This stranger brought him to one of the many camps spread across the Dreadlands and vanished, leaving Radamir to begin his training in the camp. He trained from age 9 to 15, leaving the Demon Hunter camp once his training was complete, joining a war against the Burning Hells.
Radamir worked with other Demon Hunters for about 4 years. He was sent many places, stretching from Traedar to Drest’en hunting down demons that rose within Sanctuary, and recruiting survivors of these horrific events. After hearing news of Demonic hordes pushing further into Sku’rea, Radamir broke off from the rest of the Demon Hunters and returned to the North began his attempt to defend the cities that would be next to fall to the Burning Hells.
