[FactØry Gear] OOC S183ty

...With the advent of Steam Technology in 1882, it seemed anything was possible; the world was ours for the taking. Seemingly overnight, the City of Rochelle was transformed from a humble rural town of several hundred, to a prosperous city of several thousand. As Steam Technology displaced the primitive technology of yore, society as a whole became more interconnected, prosperous and accessible. Airships and hovercraft are now the primary mode of transportation and do not suffer the same limitations as their ground and sea-equivalent predecessors. However, land-based modes of transportation is still used frequently by the lower class, who are too poor to afford travel by airship. Society is becoming more industrialized by the minute and, at least for a short while, this time period of industrial and societal expansion was colloquially known as "The Golden Age."

However, Rochelle and the other nearby cities are finally becoming cognizant of the detrimental effects the so-called Golden Age. Industrialism has all but destroyed the fertile land Rochelle held in ages past -- a layer of smoke and soot has settled on the once pristine city. Although the law enforcement system is more efficient than it ever was, crime too has risen exponentially. As factories and engineering plants become mechanized and modernized, the public must seek work elsewhere and there are few jobs left that require any substantial amount of human interaction. Many people are resorting to crime as the only means of supporting their families, all the while Robber Barons are charging incomprehensible rates for housing and taxing residents exorbitant fees. The government is far too busy supervising the multitude of factories to keep tabs on the oppressive landlords.

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel; a few renegade airship pilots, engineers and scientists have teamed up to find a new source of clean-burning, sustainable and renewable energy. This new theorized energy source is called æther and thus far, the team has only a vague idea of how to acquire it...

------------------------------

Limping down the cobblestone walk that led down to the hangar, a middle-aged gentleman holding a walking stick with a hound dog's head grip, carried a plain brown folder. Escorted by his cortege, the stern-faced man and his group appeared boisterous and in high spirits.

"After four long years, it's finally done! When the Queen sees this, she'll beg us to be a part of the Royal Rochellian Airforce," a man in a button up labcoat eagerly stated.

"I'm more concerned about what that pirate is going to think. This [i]is his field after all. He's going to shit himself when he sees this." another gentleman, by the name of Francis, added. The group of Continentals was clearly anxious to arrive at the hangar and their walking pace quickened. They all leered at the sealed folder in anticipation.

As the group of men entered the hanger, a humid mist sprayed them and they began to feel their clothes stick to their skin in the dense humidity. "How do these people work in here all day?" the gentleman with the walking stick wondered as his grip on the brown folder tightened.

Each time the group visited the hangar, they stared on in awe at the marvel of modern mechanics; airships bigger than the Queen's Palace rested precariously on the ground. Men of all walks of life were working, tweaking, yelling, ordering, commanding, pleasing, thanking, arriving and departing. This hangar was a central hub of commotion and travel. An aristocratic older woman, hooked arm-in-arm with another woman were led down the airship ramp and into the terminal. A few moments later, a young couple and their son departed and spoke some unknown East-European language. It was easy to get caught up in the commotion of emotion.

"There." The group pointed to a man entwined in a bunch of cable and wire, tinkering with the side panel of an airship. The man was unkempt, dressed like a ruffian and held a cigarette between his teeth, but the group expected no more of an airship pilot.

"Ah, Dr. von Hilder, is it safe to assume it's completed finally? You know, you come in here every week saying that you Continental bastards are almost done with it and have somehow managed to sneak four year of this procrastination by me."

"My sincerest apologies, Karl. But as these "Continental bastards" and I promised, we have finally finished," the Continental bastard waved the folder in the air tauntingly at Karl. The gentleman passed the folder to him. Karl's hands shook with excitement as he peeled open the cover on the folder and peered inside, only to find nothing.

"Is this some kind of joke? There's nothing in here..."

Our story begins in the Rochellian Hangar, in the year 1894. A team of researchers, robber barons and businessmen are funding an unknown project proposed by Karl von Tinkenburg III. Several airship pilots, mechanics and engineers also working in the hangar overhear some commotion and go to see what the fuss is all about.

Chronicle

The Chronicle is a summary of everything that has happened thus far in the RP. This doesn't mean that you don't have to read everyone's posts (Chronicles will be written towards the end of a Chapter.) They serve to refresh your memory as to what happened in the RP. Chapters will end and begin after every major plot point or whenever everyone has posted 2-3 IC posts since the previous Chapter.

Chapter 1: Missing Plans
Spoiler:

==================================
Terminology

-Continental: A group of wealthy aristocrats, scientists and robber barons who are notorious for traveling extensively via airship. They are fueled by greed and money and are often sought out to fund certain projects.

-Queen: Queen Velicia, the Queen of Rochelle who also holds reign over all of Britain.

Wellgunde: Karl von Tinkenburg III’s second prized ship. This is not the ship Karl mainly flies, but it is the one people most commonly associate with the Rochellian Hangar, due to Karl winning it in a poker match against a serviceman in the Royal Airforce. One of the Queen’s 3 prized ships. The other two are the Woglinde and Floßhilde.

Black Diamond Coal: A highly-pure and rare form of coal with Antimagnetic qualities that allows airships powered by this coal to cross Magnetized lands and seas.

Magnetized Lands/Seas: Lands that are Magnetized have a very strong magnetic field capable of disrupting functions on Steam-driven airships. Due to the danger of traveling across Magnetized lands, one would be foolish not to take the more scenic (longer) route around or to acquire Black Diamond Coal.

-Known lands that are Magnetized are: Germany, Italy and Serbia, with small patches of Southern Bordeaux.
-Known seas that are Magnetized are: Airship Graveyard (technically part of the North Sea) and the Black Sea.

Airship Graveyard: A region between Bordeaux and Germany where many airships have fallen and crews perished, giving it the name of Airship Graveyard. The cause of this is probably a highly Magnetized region, due to the combined Magnetized forces of Germany and Southern-Bordeaux.

Rules
[0.] Have fun. Roleplaying is about fun, if at any time it feels like you're doing work, stop writing and find something inspiring. Watch a movie, read a comic or blog, look at some art or photos, etc.

[1.] Personally, I don't give a fuck if you curse in your IC posts. Just make sure that it contributes to either the storyline or your character and you're not just cursing for the hell of it.
[2.]Aim to post at least once every 72 hours. However, if you miss this deadline once in a while, I won't penalize you.
[3.] You agree to give the other RPers some free reign over your character. This includes all minor actions and dialogue. This keeps the pace of the RP moving. However, this doesn't mean someone else can walk your character off a cliff. Just basic stuff like an answer to a basic question, a basic gesture and things of that nature.
Spoiler:
[4.] If you ever have any questions or you're stuck and not sure what to post, please post in the OOC and ask myself (or simply PM me) or your fellow RPers.

Sign-up sheet:

Name: Fyora Grace
Age: Twenty - Three
Gender: Female
Occupation: Mechanic / Medic
Personality: Fyora spends most of her time in the underbelly of the ship, making sure things are working like they're supposed to be. She hardly talks to anyone and when she does, its in broken sentences and sometimes even in riddles. Most see her as odd but she is brilliant at what she does. Fyora is also a medic and is very good with a scalpel when needed.

Fyora is a follower in every sense of the word. She has no desire to lead, unless the situation is dire and she is playing her role as medic. She doesn't really enjoy group activities or being in a large group due to some irrational fear that someone in said group might be out to get her. Fyora prefers solitude and thats why she is always working.

Sign-up sheet:

Name:Elizabetta (Billie) Baptista

Age: 32

Gender: Female

Occupation: First Mate/Gunnery

Personality: Billie is a no-nonsense, straight-forward, reliable worker. She is calm and takes her work seriously. The ship she serves on and it's crew are family as she has none left living. She doesn't tolerate fools and has gotten into more than one brawl as a result. Even in this age of more freedom for women, Billie is a bit coarse and hard-nosed. She is comfortable, even happy aboard ship, but on land is completely out of her element.

How does your characters work within a group setting. Are they leaders or followers? Do they work better alone or with others? : Aboard ship, Billie is a leader and leads by example. When given an order, she carries it out immediately and digs in willingly. She prefers to work with a team she can trust. Someone to watch her back and she will watch theirs. She doe slike time alone when maintaining her guns, but it is more a time of meditation than a preference or life choice.

Appearance: Billie is tall, fit and, some say, beautiful. Her Italian heritage gives her skin a soft olive tone and dark flashing eyes. She has long, dark tresses that more often than not are tied back from her face to afford her a better view. Billie stands a bit over 5 feet, 9 inches tall and is leanly muscled. Into her 30's Billie’s face has become leaner and somewhat predatory. Only when she smiles does her beauty shine through. Billie walks with a pronounced limp from an injury that required replacing her entire left femur. The surgery was a success and eventually, it will heal to afford normal motion.

[FactØry Gear] OOC Empty Re: [FactØry Gear] OOC

Post by Nation Fri May 20, 2011 10:21 pm

Name: Karl Von Tinkenburg III
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Occupation: Pilot and Captain

Personality: Karl has a relatively ambiguous, yet distinguished personality. As evidenced by his style of dress, Karl is an airship connoisseur of sorts. He is extremely carefree when it comes to personal vices and troubles; although he lets the stress of his work get to him on occasion.

Karl is calm and collected when presented with a challenge or confrontation. Although he is somewhat low-maintenance and passive in many other areas of life.

Captain von Tinkenburg, as he’s sometimes called, is often authoritative and quick to pick up the slack of others, even when insecure about his abilities. His job assures that being decisive is a prerequisite, as Karl wastes no time in making a decision or assuming the role of leader, if nobody else steps forth to do so. Karl secretly gets some degree of satisfaction in having people follow him and listen to what he preaches, but appreciates the support of others.

Appearance: [FactØry Gear] OOC 9sfk9k

From head to toe, Karl is the quintessential airship pilot, although he isn’t particularly striking or memorable. His black hair is becoming charred and slowly graying. Karl has a mustache, which he is very proud of and thoroughly combs every morning.

Tinkenburg sports a buttoned, saffron-tanned, leather vest, under which he wears a white silk shirt. His burgundy dress pants are slim and probably too short for a man his height; they hung just above where his ankles were inside his boots. The jeans were once a deep auburn, but years of constant flowing dust and smoke in the air of the hangar imbedded itself in the fibers of the pants. Over time, the color faded towards an almost copper shade.

Digital and Ana, add in a bit more about how your characters work within a group setting. Are they leaders or followers? Do they work better alone or with others? Something along that line.

[FactØry Gear] OOC Empty Re: [FactØry Gear] OOC

Post by Crimson Saint Sat May 21, 2011 12:24 am

Sign-up sheet:

Name: Joshua Bell
Age: 41
Gender: Male
Occupation: Security/Quartermaster
Personality: Joshua, having previously been a soldier, is a military man. He prides himself on strict discipline and a strong sense of honour. He expects these same qualities of those over which he has authority. He is not, however, without some humour, and prefers the respect and loyalty of those he considers "his men" to their fear. Joshua is a kind man at heart, and is oft found in a good mood. A man of proud Scottish heritage, his favorite place to be is anywhere with fine company and good drink.

Joshua is a natural leader, and has a knack for getting the best out of those he leads. A bit of a natural father figure, people tend to trust him easily, and he does his best to be worthy of that trust. Joshua easily places the lives of those around him above his own, and will go out of his way to look out for those around him. Despite these attributes, Joshua isn't really "close" to anyone, and tends to be a closed book in personal matters.

Appearance: A tall man of medium-large build and rather rough-cut, Joshua certainly looks the part of an ex-soldier. His short-cut hair and well-kept beard are dark in colour, though some grey has set in (which Joshua wears proudly). Honest green eyes are set firmly in a kind face. Joshua is in peak physical form for a man of his age, and makes a point out of showing up younger crew members when possible. Joshua always makes a point to appear tidy and clean, though he is not afraid to get his hands dirty when necessary. Joshua is rarely found without a pipe somewhere on his person.

[FactØry Gear] OOC Empty Re: [FactØry Gear] OOC

Post by Lara Sat May 21, 2011 12:42 am

Sign-Up Sheet:

Name: Leanne Aster
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Occupation: Mechanic, Prototype Engineer
Personality: Doesn’t enjoy long lengths of “unnecessary” group interaction, though often rambles when others are around while she’s working or when nervous. When alone while working, she often ends up humming or whistling without realizing it.

Doesn’t care much about “prettying herself up”, especially since she’ll just get dirty again later when she has to fix something. Tends to throw herself into her work, wanting to do the best job possible so that everyone, herself included, is satisfied with the end result. Also uses work as a distraction for when she’s stressed or upset. She’s often forgetful when it comes to things like eating and sleeping while trying to fix something. Enjoys long showers after the day is done, and uses them as a way of relaxing.

Considers herself to have a great logical mind, and deals with problems with a “how can I fix this?” attitude. Doesn’t often cry, at least not in public, and while she’s willing to talk about her past if the conversation comes up, likely won’t mention that part of the reason she works so hard is because her mother is ill and needs the money for treatment. Rarely talks about her family at all, in fact, and often attempts to change the subject if the topic does come up and questions are directed her way.

Is a good listener when you can catch her not working or heading off to fix something. Is very good with even the smallest of details, and if she gives you her attention, she’s not likely to miss much of what you’ve said.
Is willing to be a follower rather than a leader, but don’t think that doesn’t mean she won’t voice her opinion if she thinks it’s a good one.
Fears, weaknesses, and other traits to be addressed if and when they come up, but at the very least, Leanne is not afraid of standard things such as cramped spaces or spiders thanks to the nature of her work.

Appearance:
Leanne is tall yet skinny, standing around 5'8" and weighing in (last she checked; she's so forgetful about these things sometimes) around 125 pounds. Keeping her frame shaped enough to be able to bend and twist into the strangest places (required of her by her job, especially back when she was still apprenticing) is, thankfully, not so difficult due to a fast metabolism (and the occasional moment of forgetfulness when she's fixing something).

Leanne's clothing style is one that leans on the tighter side (because she doesn't want baggy clothing catching on anything while she's working), yet still remains as comfortable as she can make it. Her legs are usually covered by jeans (which are in turn covered in at least one belt filled with various tools), but her arms sometimes remain out in the open when she rolls up the sleeves of whatever t-shirt she decides to throw on. Her hands usually sport a pair of industrial working gloves, which hang off one of her belts whenever she isn't wearing them, clipped securely on (she goes nowhere without them). One of the few personal touches to her outfit is a slightly worn bandanna, which more often than not ends up around her neck rather than on top of her fiery red hair.

Leanne has made several attempts at keeping her hair orderly, one of the most recent including cutting its length to where the longest bits barely skim the top of her shoulders. What can reach is sometimes put up into a ponytail, but the un-layered nature of her hair tends to make it stick out in all sorts of directions, so she leaves that as a last resort. No matter how badly she tries to keep it in line, however, a few sections often end up hanging in front of her face, especially while she's working. It also isn't uncommon to see her tucking said sections back behind her ear in a vain attempt to keep them out of the way.

To go along with the red hair, Leanne's eyes are a bright shade of emerald. Her pale skin is yet another tribute to her Scottish heritage, and the same goes for the faint dash of freckles across the bridge of her nose.

I don't particularly mind having more females than males, but if you think you could roleplay a male, by all means feel free to switch your CS around. We're still waiting on Plaguewalker who, I assume, is going to RP as a male.

I can easily play either or. Plague is still working on a concept, last I heard, but he's a good RPer who can also play either gender.

For now, I'll leave Billie as is until I see the rest of the crew.

Post by Guilty Carrion Sun May 22, 2011 8:49 pm

Sign-up sheet:

Name: Colton “Colt” Lathem
Age: 33
Gender: Male
Occupation: Priest
Personality: Colt isn’t your average man of the faith, an observation many can make at introductions. It’s even speculated he isn’t exactly a priest either, but that’s a decision that’s more varied the more people you talk to. For what he is, Colton is a man with a strong moral code, and a deep reverence for a higher power. He has an affinanity for heights of any kind, content to sit atop the masts and feels the wind through his hair, and the sun on his skin.

If you need a hand, Colt will lend it, if you need an ear, Colt will listen, and if you need a blade, Colt shall provide it. Colt refuses to start fights, but if one is forced upon him, he is quick and brutal in ending them. Adaptive and relaxed, Colton doesn’t let the troubles of the mundane bother him much, often citing things as ‘part of the plan’. No man nor woman is beneath his help, and Colt accepts those of all walks of life, all creatures of the Divine’s creation are welcome.

If the need arise, Colt can lead, although he is much better suited to follow, and support those who command, providing them consul and comfort away from the prying eyes of those they lead.

[FactØry Gear] OOC Empty Afanasi Bukovska

Post by Rootworker Tue Jun 07, 2011 11:08 am

Sign-up sheet:

Name: Afanasi Bukovska
Age: 29
Gender: male
Occupation: professional "occultist", hired by both private and federal parties alike. He investigates the supernormal and handles special cases of a bizarre nature.
Personality: Mr. Bukovska considers himself to be a slightly different creature than those humans around him, and so may seem to exclude himself from social groups. However, he is not at all shy and can be inappropriately blunt at times. Afanasi usually employs his psychic talents to carry out any task. He stores information in his mind as though it were a dark library with many different chambers. He is an old soul, quite lonely, and does not give pieces of his soul away to others. He prefers, above all, that others do no understand him, rather than despise him or like him. He is more comfortable with older woman and less comfortable with younger men, and he almost completely ignores boys; little girls, on the other hand, have a special place in his heart.

Appearance: He is a comely, slightly tall, young-looking man who dresses in blue or green vests with a brown corduroy coat. His round spectacles are tinted but not completely dark, and rest on his long nose, concealing grayish-blue eyes that glow with the knowledge of centuries. His long, Russian-boy face would be unnervingly beautiful if it wasn't so unnervingly tense. He has black hair that almost grows to his ears, but curls up in a regal style. He carries an unusual black trunk-briefcase.

Excuse me, comrades, but I have another character under Afanasi and I'm not sure how to classify her. Should I just post her sub-character sheet later before she comes into the story? I've done that on other threads.

To be honest, we haven't heard from Nation in a while and I'm not even positive the RP is still going. You may want to wait. Sorry.

Closer to a week and a bit, actually. Hopefully it's a minor delay, but you never really know with these things Razz

Hey guys, so apparently the issue (http://www.footstepsofghosts.com/t3654-fog-logging-me-off-and-unable-to-log-back-in) I was having with the boards is fixed now because I've refreshed several times and I can stay logged in without using a Tor proxy. (Yay!)

If you guys are still willing to continue this, so am I obviously. Very Happy
