Heavens in Chaos Empty Heavens in Chaos

Here is the rundown.

Four centuries ago, the Ti'ang and Auberon engaged in a conflict over a multiple fatal pandemics from a supposedly secure, but easily breached research facility in the Auberon nation. The rest of the world joined in fighting for food and medical supplies. The plagues were initially being designed to enhance the human body, and in a tiny fraction of the world populace this succeeded. This gave rise to the adepts, roughly 1% of the population. The long conflict saw the rise of the development of power armored infantry and battlemechs. Eventually, the Auberon triumphed over their neighbors and the surprise invasion force of the Ti'ang with the help of several mercenary groups. The invasion of the Ti'ang by the Auberon began for retribution and dominance.

The Ti'ang became desperate, and had been conducting their own research into energy production and manipulation. When the invading armies of the Auberon reached the capital of the Ti'ang, they went ahead of their plan to access unlimited energy for their own weapons and bent and broke a hole in their dimension. It opened a place quite like hell, and released another world wide pandemic from strange energy emissions and radiation. The resulting explosion and tear annihilated the government of the Ti'ang and brought for Yaomo, or demons. They use something that is more or less equivalent to magic, and is only partially understood by the science of Auberon. However, the advanced technology and use of adepts proved effective in combating these foes. Not much is understood, and the area around the rift is contained. Humans began to spontaneously be able to use the power of the other dimension in rough correlation to the population statistics to the adepts. Another side effect was a random mutation of the human and their rampages became legendary. The energy from magic disrupts some of the more sensitive advanced technology. However, the rules of physics can only be broken by magic.

The Auberon, exhausted from war abandoned the area almost entirely, declaring victory over the corpse of their foe. While their military force was effective in suppressing the Yaomo from devastating the countryside, it was too expensive, and their were mutation outbreaks among their own population. The remnants of Ti'ang leadership coalesced and managed to make a deal with the Yaomo from the other side through the use of their sorcerers, adepts, and the Black Mercenary Guild who were instrumental in defeating them in the first place.

The intervening three centuries from the peace with Yaomo has once again caused the rise of the Ti'ang. Confrontation seems inevitable between the two powers again.

However, this will be in the back ground for the beginning. There are several mercenary guilds and other independent agencies to deal with periodic Yaomo and mutation outbreaks. Hunters are officially licensed through the premier international guild, now known simply as Black. Initially, we will be simply be dealing with these, and the low level outbreaks throughout the rest of the world.

I see an interesting story, but a fair bit of info seems missing. For example-- what are the adepts? I get that they were mutated by the plague. I don't see what the mutation *gave* them.

Anyway, I just don't have enough information there to commit quite yet. Maybe after I understand what's going on a bit better.

The adepts have a varying level of modification. All have baseline improved reactions, endurance, which translates into strength, basic neural processing, and eyesight by stimulating the muscles that cause you to lose visual acuity as you get older. Another fairly common ability would be a better ability to multi-task or have increased sensitivity to electrical impulses, which can translate into better sensitivity and muscle control. It depends on degree and the individual in question. Eidactic memory is possible for one example. If you idea in question is vaguely humanly possible I would probably allow it. If one wishes to have such abilities, you can't be able to use magic. They are mutually incompatible.

I am writing the background material at the moment, so it will probably be a week before I finish all of it. This is just to see if people are interested, otherwise I don't really want to waste my time and will move onto a less crazy idea.
