The Second Cataclysm
Mission Statement, and the Roleplayers Commitment
Mission Statement
I love Caligo. It is a wonderful world created by Our Mother Fate (may the mists be with her) which I have always loved to explore. The only problem is that the roleplays here seems to have unusually short lifespans. I think the problem is, is that player feel threatened, or uncomfortable in this world, since it bears the spirit of Footsteps of Ghosts. I encourage everyone reading this to remember that we are not here to judge your work, but to have fun and improve your work (with friendly critisism, of course). So my mission is summed up thusly.
This roleplay is nothing to be afraid of, for players of all skill levels. The only requirement is your promise to see the story to the end, for that is the greatest acomplishment of a writer. The write the words, "The End".
The Roleplayers Commitement
Here are my only rules for you, outside of the site rules, which come before mine.
1: Commit to stay with this story until the end. This is the most important rule. If you feel like you do not have the time to make a post once every 2-3 days, please don't sign up. If you have not made a post within the week, you may get skipped over, or your character nedged forward enough for the rest of us to continue. As always, sudden changes in cirsumstance is understandable, and won;t be held against you.
2: Try and stay true to the world created by Fate Foretold. We are all um for creativity, but remember, you are playing in someone elses sandbox. If you are unfirmiliar with the world, go here first:
http://www.footstepsofghosts.com/t384-the-island-of-caligo-information-and-history
3: Damn, I'm bad at the rules thing. If I think of more, I'll add them.
4: You need to have your Caligo character sheet filled out. This can be found in your profiles. (Note: It does help to repost your sheet to the thread, so I'll have a place for you to do that as well.)
With the formalities out of the way, read on to the story section.

Re: The Second Cataclysm
Introduction
Over a thousand years have past since the Gods rained fire down upon the island of Caligo. The cataclysm that shook the inhabitants has passed, but is all but forgotten. Some fear the Gods wrath. and distance themselves from technology. For others, the memories and stories of the past have dimmed, and have been replaced with a desire to learn about the lost pieces of technology. Meanwhile, strangers threaten Caligo's shores, as the organization Blue Trinity learns more about the islands mysteries.
Which side of the conflict will you find yourself on? Do you wish to unlock the mysteries of the Gods, or bury them forever, or do you wish to steal the secrets for yourself?
The Heart of the Gods
Phasmoenia, the capital city of Caligo, is built on a high mountain peak, the city itself spiralling upwards with the natural mountain ridges. The population of the city is large, with an assortment of artefacts from the past. High statues, old buildings and lost bits of technology lay scattered throughout the city, some ever left over from the first cataclysm. At the top of Phasmoenia, on the high peak is set an ancient temple. Here you will find no people, the summit of the mountain abandoned as though it was cursed. The insides of the temple have long been stripped bare, the walls caved in and buried, and any lore wiped away by the winds of time.
There is one thing however, that neither man, nor machine, nor the slow march of time could remove. A massive tangle of metal and blackened stone lay defeated over top of the temple ruins. The metal appears to once have been circular in shape, but it is now contorted. In some areas the metal appears to have been melted, in others it looks cut or shattered. The native Caligoeans will tell you stories of have the Gods, in their anger, struck down the greatest of all their inventions with molten fire and crackling lightening. The cataclysm destroyed the device, and the temple on which is set, beyond all recognition. Caligoeans call it, The Great Taboo.
Within the twisted metal and scared stone, lies a chamber within the machine barely large enough for a single person. The outside of the chamber is blackened, scarred and scratched, but not broken, as if it was able to withstand the onslaught the Gods brought against it. Inside the chamber is a host of screens, lights and controls; all of them lay dormant. Also within the chamber is a seat for one person. If someone was to sit down, the first thing they would notice would be the hole in the console, which would hold a fist sized stone. The stone was long ago called the Heart of the Gods. Most inhabitants of the island either do not know of, or have forgotten about the chamber within The Great Taboo, or its purpose, let alone the Heart of the Gods...
Blue Tide Rising
It has been roughly 30 years since the organisation Blue Trinity first discovered the island. During that time they have sent dozens of recon parties into the jungles of Caligo. Most returned empty handed, or not at all, meeting gruesome ends at the hands of the jungles dangers, or suspicious Caligoeans. Still, those few successful missions which aquired strange technology and artefacts convinced Blue Trinity that further exploration would be profitable.
Blue Trinity has finally commited itself to establishing a base on the island, something that no visitor to the island has ever done before. This action could provoke violence from the inhabitants. It could lead to a war on Caligo...

Re: The Second Cataclysm
Here are easy links to all the characters sheets. I would copy paste them, but the format of the profiles would make me copy every box individually. I'm too lazy for that, sorry.

Re: The Second Cataclysm
I hope this hasn't been completely forgotten (like the other Caligo RPs in this small forum). If not, I'll be happy to join in. Let me create a character profile real quick in my UCP. I'll return shortly; an Airman's promise.

Re: The Second Cataclysm
This has been forgotten, sad to say. I would be all for going through with this RP, but getting more people interested in it will be unlikely I think.

Can it be a one-on-one? I think those are easier anyway.

Re: The Second Cataclysm
I'll consider it. I would prefer to have more people, but such is the way of things. Just a few questions. Do you plan to play a Caligoean, and if so, what is your opinion of technology?

Re: The Second Cataclysm
I plan to play both a Caligoan and Blue Trinity character equally; an alternating narration in each post covering both characters.
As far as my opinion of technology goes; I'm not sure what you mean by that. Would you mind elaborating?

Re: The Second Cataclysm
Well, essentially there are two kinds of people on Caligo. Those who fear that the Gods will return if we continue to use technology, and those that choose to recover lost technology and figure out how it works. What side you are on is all a matter of personal beliefs.
My character is fearful of technology, and so would try and make sure that the Heart of the Gods remains hidden.

Re: The Second Cataclysm
Interesting. My Caligo character would probably be supportive of technology, but only to the extent of curiosity, more so than politically supportive of its development. As far as my BT character goes, he's a military man that could care less about pretty lights and gizmos; but the people he works for (I'm already developing a plot and reason to get him onto the island) are extremely intrigued with Caligoan technology. They aren't aware of the Heart of the Gods' existence (they've heard the lore, but have never found evidence and dismiss the idea of it being real)... yet.

Re: The Second Cataclysm
It's basically one hold indefinitely until I get a group of people all interested in it at the same time. I would love to start it up. I wonder if Ghost Writer is still interested. If so, then we could likely get something started.

Re: The Second Cataclysm
I have a plan. A cunning evil plan. I will PM everyone in this thread who at pone point or another expressed interest. That way I will have more than one person aware of this RP's existence at one time.

Re: The Second Cataclysm
Excellent. It appears that we have 4 players, myself included. I am bust for much of the long weekend, but Tuesday or Wednesday I will try to polish out the setting and get an intro post up.
Make sure you have your Caligo character updated (or created in the case of some). Ghost you're going to be playing a Blue Trinity member if I recall correct?

IC thread is up, once my own post is up, feel free to post yourself.
Post is up.
Last edit to this post. I have hot linked all your Caligo character sheets to the fifth post in this thread for easy reference. Ghost, please let me know if you still plan on playing a member of Blue Trinity. I have placed a template in the forth post that you can use if you wish. Just post the sheet to this thread if / when you are done.

Re: The Second Cataclysm
Working on a post, Dio. I just got in from a two-day mission. We broke down in u-pick-a-stan, but they put us up in a freaking nice hotel. I was quite impressed with the accommodations, the massage, the steak sandwich, that one-porcelain-thing-that-you-don't-poop-in-but-it-cleans-your-butt-at-least-that's-what-I-thought-originally-but-found-out-it-actually-cleans-your-feet. Yup; five-star! Didn't have my laptop though; just my tablet, and there's no way I'm going to type up a long post on a touch-screen. That'll take all night... xD

Okay, I got a post up. I would have put in more, but to be honest, I was kinda stumped trying to work around the whole pole thing. I wasn't expecting that. But I think I've got a plan figured out.

I suppose so. Sorry for the neglect. I pm'd him sometime ago and he asked for the link to the thread, and then I never heard from him again. I'm a little swamped, but I will try to have a post up in the next day or so.
