A Hateful Design Builds the Structure Divine
In my town, the System sleeps.
That's the coded message that began a revolution. It was a theoretical impossibility. The System was everywhere, at all times. But, in a small snow-covered town, the System had failed. It was a tiny town, barely visible by the satellites that orbited Paledroma. The heat signatures made by the occupants were masked by the everpresent snow, and the glaciers surrounding it. The message wasn't broadcasted, wasn't radioed, but sent via letter, by migratory birds. Each message was written in cipher, coded so none but the designed recipient could read it.
It was, to say the least, a covert operation.

BACKGROUND
Paledroma (Pronounced PALL-eh-DROW-mah) is a planet of mixed technology and magic. Behind all technology is a tiny spark of magic, and behind most magic is technology. The two are intrinsically tied together, but inexcusably different. A master of technology is stunned by magic, and a magic master is confused by modern tech.
Legend of the System:
When technology was young, a beautiful woman was regarded as the most intelligent magic-user in the world. She, along with a new scientist, designed a machine that would be a God to Paledroma. One that would bring peace, prosperity, and end the wretched onslaught by the technological horrors that were http://exe.Demons (commonly called Slashes or Exxies). When the spike was completed, it stood towering into space, nearly cleaving the ozone layer at its peak. All that was left, was to activate it, and program a personality...
The Slashes attacked that night. The beautiful mage fought valiantly, protecting the male scientist as he quickly booted up the programming... That is, until the scientist's knife slid between her ribs, slicing her heart in twain. Blood gurgled from her mouth, and gushed from the wound. The scientist laughed, placing her body in a casket at the feet of the spike that would become a God. With his deal with the Slashes done, he backed away. The Slashes approached, their odd blend of flesh and cogged gears whirring as they processed what had to be done. One, the largest Slash, raised the casket upwards, pushing it into the spike that rended the sky. As the spike assimilated her body, using her unearthly magic to extend itself, the Slashes offered themselves to the new God. Soon, the spike was no longer a human-designed beacon of hope, but a twisted tower of flesh and hate, driven by the mage's magic and resentment, and the cold, calculating brains of the Slashes.
The System spread, taking over the world and orienting itself into everyday life. Its oppressive reign began with food restrictions, then it organized a military. Soon, daily sacrifices were made to the System to keep it's biological parts running, and magic was offered to it to slake its thirst. Humanity was reduced to nothing but cattle, constantly repairing and maintaining its God, in case its vengeance should strike them down otherwise.
Paledroma got the God it wanted...
But will it have the heroes it deserves?

ADDITIONAL INFO:
Magic can be explained two ways:
Technology
Real Magic
Technology is superior in multiple targets, quicker attacks, and adding effects to tech-weapons. It is also great at buff/debuffing those who have shields/armor related to tech.
Advantages: Great area-effect and multi-target attacks. Can buff/debuff technology of friends and foes. Eventually able to hack computers and enemy weapons.
Disadvantages: Weak, weapons must be repaired manually and degrade quickly. Healing is weak.
Magic is great as single, strong attacks, buffing/debuffing ANYTHING but tech, and uses the classic elements plus "nonelemental".
Advantages: Much stronger. Able to buff/debuff more objects. Magical equipment repairs slowly by itself over time. Strong against Magic enemies.
Disadvantages: Takes longer to recharge, weak against tech enemies. Offers less defense.
CHARACTER SHEETS:
Name: Your character's name
Age: This can be anything, really. Magic and tech now provide extended life.
Species: There are two types to every species out there, a Tech and a Magic. Use your creativity. This is fantasy, but I want to see uniqueness!
Specialization: Magic or Tech. Now, if you're a Tech version of a species, you can moderately use both (likewise with magic species using tech) but if you're a pure tech, or pure magic, you're MUCH stronger ,but can't use anything but that.
Gender: Notice that I didn't say sex? Exactly.
Appearance: Yep, you got it. Pics are fine, but PLEASE include a description as well.
Bio: Where did you grow up? Were you born before the System arose? Is the System all you remember? How did you make your way to the tiny village where the revolution started?
Weapons: You can have Tech Weapons (swords with generators, guns with electric batteries, etc.) Magic Weapons (classic fantasy fare, swords with magic effects, guns that work by channelling magic) or both (A sword with a generator run by magic is an example).
Armor: Tech (provides good defense, hard to hack, easy to Debuff.) or Magic (GREAT offense, able to be hacked, but able to be debuffed)
Personality: Of course, I need to know how you'd be in the revolution.

KINGMAKERKINGMAKERKINGMAKERKINGMAKER!
Where've you BEEN man?
In other news: I'mma read this over before I commit to joining. >.>
Edit--
Ok, so, you definitely have me interested.
One question though: how exactly is the System exerting control? Is it like mind-control? Or threats of quasi-nuclear oblivion? Maybe something else entirely?
